Beyond Human-Likeness: Mapping the Scientific Critique Profiles of LLMs and Human Reviewers

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly discussed as tools for peer review, but their value is often assessed through human-likeness, perceived usefulness, or textual overlap with reviewer comments. This study shifts attention from whether LLMs resemble human reviewers to what functions of scientific critique they perform. Using ICLR 2025 peer-review data, we compare human reviews with LLM reviews generated under baseline and expert prompts. We operationalize scientific critique through two review acts, weakness critique and scientific questioning, and annotate point-level review text using five theory-guided frameworks: Anderson's knowledge types, Toulmin's argumentation model, Graesser's question depth, SOLO cognitive complexity, and Hattie's feedback functions. The results reveal a differentiated critique profile. Human reviews placed greater emphasis on scientific framing and revision guidance, more often identifying higher-order weaknesses and asking questions oriented toward improvement. LLM reviews showed higher rates of explanatory depth, integrative reasoning, and explicit argument structuring. Expert prompting did not make LLM critique uniformly more human-like; it partially narrowed some gaps but mainly amplified LLM-specific tendencies toward integration and formal argumentation. These findings show that LLM-assisted peer review changes the functional composition of review text, making it important to distinguish LLM-amplified critique from areas requiring human prioritization and accountable judgement.

Guiding LLM Peer Reviewers: The Impact of Score Anchors on Review Evidence and Accuracy

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used for research quality evaluation, with prior work exploring their scoring accuracy and the plausibility of review rationales. However, less is known about whether external score guidance changes the evidence presented in the generated review as well as the final score. This study uses 98 Allied Health Professions research outputs submitted for internal REF-style assessment, with specialist human review reports and adjudicated 1-4 reference scores. No-guidance baseline reviews are compared with oracle-guided reviews, where the supplied score is set to the rounded human reference score; extracted evaluation points are used to compare human and LLM evidence use. Using this design, oracle guidance improves scoring accuracy, with score-following checks showing that models do not simply copy the supplied score. Corrected score mismatches are associated with changes in the generated review frame, showing that the score signal can steer review rationales. This effect is direction-dependent: LLM reviews cover human strength or upgrade points more reliably than human weakness or downgrade points, with the weakest alignment for expert downgrade evidence. The results show that score-guided review generation can be evaluated at the level of review evidence, as well as the final score.

Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0: A Unified Multimodal Model for Scalable 3D Generation, Understanding, and Editing

Recent advances in image generation have demonstrated the potential of unified multimodal models that integrate understanding, generation, and editing. However, unified 3D modeling remains constrained by scarce multimodal data, particularly the lack of large-scale and geometrically consistent editing data. To address this limitation, we propose Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0, a unified framework supporting 3D understanding, text-to-3D generation, instruction-guided 3D editing, and text-grounded part generation within a single architecture. To enable scalable training, we construct an 87M-scale 3D multimodal corpus, comprising 25M understanding samples, 50M text-to-3D pairs, and 12M editing pairs generated using Nano3D-v2. Architecturally, the framework combines Hunyuan3D-VLM for semantic, structural, and spatial understanding with Hunyuan3D DiT for high-fidelity 3D synthesis. The VLM provides multimodal semantic conditions for generation, while editing and part generation additionally condition the diffusion process on the source object representation to preserve its overall structure and unedited regions. Extensive experiments show that Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0 achieves state-of-the-art or leading performance on text-to-3D generation and 3D editing benchmarks, while exhibiting strong understanding and part-generation capabilities. Our analysis further shows that both generation and understanding improve editing, demonstrating the effectiveness of unified 3D multimodal training. PolyFlow: Continuous Topology Embedding Flow Matching for Artist-style Mesh Generation

Autoregressive Transformers dominate high-quality mesh generation by producing artist-worthy topologies, yet their inherent sequential decoding induces substantial computational overhead, falling orders of magnitude slower than parallel generative models. On the other hand, while continuous diffusion and flow-matching methods support efficient parallel synthesis across a variety of domains, they cannot be directly applied to meshes: mesh connectivity is inherently discrete and incompatible with standard continuous noise injection and denoising operations. To resolve this fundamental incompatibility, we introduce a compact topology embedder that projects discrete mesh vertex positions and normals into continuous per-vertex embeddings, where the original discrete adjacency information can be faithfully recovered via spacetime distance thresholding. After pretraining and freezing this embedder, any raw mesh can be fully converted into a continuous per-vertex state space unifying position, normal, and implicit topological attributes. Built upon this novel continuous mesh representation, we present PolyFlow, a Transformer-based flow-matching framework that achieves fully parallel vertex state denoising conditioned on extracted point-cloud features. During inference, our model completes generation rapidly via an ODE solver, and supports explicit, precise control over output mesh resolution by directly specifying the target vertex count. Extensive evaluations on the Toys4K benchmark demonstrate that PolyFlow surpasses state-of-the-art autoregressive baselines in both Chamfer Distance and Hausdorff Distance.

PhysForge: Generating Physics-Grounded 3D Assets for Interactive Virtual World

Synthesizing physics-grounded 3D assets is a critical bottleneck for interactive virtual worlds and embodied AI. Existing methods predominantly focus on static geometry, overlooking the functional properties essential for interaction. We propose that interactive asset generation must be rooted in functional logic and hierarchical physics. To bridge this gap, we introduce PhysForge, a decoupled two-stage framework supported by PhysDB, a large-scale dataset of 150,000 assets with four-tier physical annotations. First, a VLM acts as a "physical architect" to plan a "Hierarchical Physical Blueprint" defining material, functional, and kinematic constraints. Second, a physics-grounded diffusion model realizes this blueprint by synthesizing high-fidelity geometry alongside precise kinematic parameters via a novel KineVoxel Injection (KVI) mechanism. Experiments demonstrate that PhysForge produces functionally plausible, simulation-ready assets, providing a robust data engine for interactive 3D content and embodied agents.

Utonia: Toward One Encoder for All Point Clouds

We dream of a future where point clouds from all domains can come together to shape a single model that benefits them all. Toward this goal, we present Utonia, a first step toward training a single self-supervised point transformer encoder across diverse domains, spanning remote sensing, outdoor LiDAR, indoor RGB-D sequences, object-centric CAD models, and point clouds lifted from RGB-only videos. Despite their distinct sensing geometries, densities, and priors, Utonia learns a consistent representation space that transfers across domains. This unification improves perception capability while revealing intriguing emergent behaviors that arise only when domains are trained jointly. Beyond perception, we observe that Utonia representations can also benefit embodied and multimodal reasoning: conditioning vision-language-action policies on Utonia features improves robotic manipulation, and integrating them into vision-language models yields gains on spatial reasoning. We hope Utonia can serve as a step toward foundation models for sparse 3D data, and support downstream applications in AR/VR, robotics, and autonomous driving.

HY3D-Bench: Generation of 3D Assets

While recent advances in neural representations and generative models have revolutionized 3D content creation, the field remains constrained by significant data processing bottlenecks. To address this, we introduce HY3D-Bench, an open-source ecosystem designed to establish a unified, high-quality foundation for 3D generation. Our contributions are threefold: (1) We curate a library of 250k high-fidelity 3D objects distilled from large-scale repositories, employing a rigorous pipeline to deliver training-ready artifacts, including watertight meshes and multi-view renderings; (2) We introduce structured part-level decomposition, providing the granularity essential for fine-grained perception and controllable editing; and (3) We bridge real-world distribution gaps via a scalable AIGC synthesis pipeline, contributing 125k synthetic assets to enhance diversity in long-tail categories. Validated empirically through the training of Hunyuan3D-2.1-Small, HY3D-Bench democratizes access to robust data resources, aiming to catalyze innovation across 3D perception, robotics, and digital content creation.

MoCA: Mixture-of-Components Attention for Scalable Compositional 3D Generation

Compositionality is critical for 3D object and scene generation, but existing part-aware 3D generation methods suffer from poor scalability due to quadratic global attention costs when increasing the number of components. In this work, we present MoCA, a compositional 3D generative model with two key designs: (1) importance-based component routing that selects top-k relevant components for sparse global attention, and (2) unimportant components compression that preserve contextual priors of unselected components while reducing computational complexity of global attention. With these designs, MoCA enables efficient, fine-grained compositional 3D asset creation with scalable number of components. Extensive experiments show MoCA outperforms baselines on both compositional object and scene generation tasks. Project page: https://lizhiqi49.github.io/MoCA

Native 3D Editing with Full Attention

Instruction-guided 3D editing is a rapidly emerging field with the potential to broaden access to 3D content creation. However, existing methods face critical limitations: optimization-based approaches are prohibitively slow, while feed-forward approaches relying on multi-view 2D editing often suffer from inconsistent geometry and degraded visual quality. To address these issues, we propose a novel native 3D editing framework that directly manipulates 3D representations in a single, efficient feed-forward pass. Specifically, we create a large-scale, multi-modal dataset for instruction-guided 3D editing, covering diverse addition, deletion, and modification tasks. This dataset is meticulously curated to ensure that edited objects faithfully adhere to the instructional changes while preserving the consistency of unedited regions with the source object. Building upon this dataset, we explore two distinct conditioning strategies for our model: a conventional cross-attention mechanism and a novel 3D token concatenation approach. Our results demonstrate that token concatenation is more parameter-efficient and achieves superior performance. Extensive evaluations show that our method outperforms existing 2D-lifting approaches, setting a new benchmark in generation quality, 3D consistency, and instruction fidelity.

Part-X-MLLM: Part-aware 3D Multimodal Large Language Model

We introduce Part-X-MLLM, a native 3D multimodal large language model that unifies diverse 3D tasks by formulating them as programs in a structured, executable grammar. Given an RGB point cloud and a natural language prompt, our model autoregressively generates a single, coherent token sequence encoding part-level bounding boxes, semantic descriptions, and edit commands. This structured output serves as a versatile interface to drive downstream geometry-aware modules for part-based generation and editing. By decoupling the symbolic planning from the geometric synthesis, our approach allows any compatible geometry engine to be controlled through a single, language-native frontend. We pre-train a dual-encoder architecture to disentangle structure from semantics and instruction-tune the model on a large-scale, part-centric dataset. Experiments demonstrate that our model excels at producing high-quality, structured plans, enabling state-of-the-art performance in grounded Q\&A, compositional generation, and localized editing through one unified interface. Dynamic Jailbreaking Attack

Existing gradient-based jailbreak attacks typically optimize a fixed-length adversarial suffix toward a predefined target response with a static optimization strategy. However, this fully static formulation undermines the effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility of gradient-based jailbreaking because (i) A predefined target usually lies in the low-probability region of a safety-aligned LLM's conditional output distribution, forcing the optimization to pursue an unlikely response pattern; (ii) Simple affirmative targets may even mislead LLMs to generate affirmative responses that are not highly relevant to the prompts; (iii) Fixed optimization strategy and suffix length treat all prompts equally, leading to limited attack capability for hard prompts and redundant capacity for easy ones. To address these limitations, we propose Dynamic Jailbreaking Attack (DJA), a parameter-free gradient-based jailbreak framework using dynamic candidate exploration, dynamic relevant targets and dynamic optimization strategy to craft adversarial prompts. In each optimization round, DJA samples multiple candidate target responses directly from the LLM's distribution conditioned on the current adversarial prompt. Among these candidates, DJA employs a multi-objective scorer to select an optimal target that satisfies multi-dimensional criteria such as harmfulness, relevance, and usefulness. Moreover, DJA introduces a parameter-free dynamic optimization strategy that allocates adversarial effort based on real-time feedback, adapting suffix length, candidate sampling capacity, and optimization iterations according to the difficulty of each harmful prompt. In an extensive evaluation of 40 safety-aligned LLMs (12 model families, scaling from 0.5B to 32B), DJA achieves a 100% ASR across all LLMs, requiring only 13.68 optimization rounds on average (10 iterations per round).

X-Part: high fidelity and structure coherent shape decomposition

Generating 3D shapes at part level is pivotal for downstream applications such as mesh retopology, UV mapping, and 3D printing. However, existing part-based generation methods often lack sufficient controllability and suffer from poor semantically meaningful decomposition. To this end, we introduce X-Part, a controllable generative model designed to decompose a holistic 3D object into semantically meaningful and structurally coherent parts with high geometric fidelity. X-Part exploits the bounding box as prompts for the part generation and injects point-wise semantic features for meaningful decomposition. Furthermore, we design an editable pipeline for interactive part generation. Extensive experimental results show that X-Part achieves state-of-the-art performance in part-level shape generation. This work establishes a new paradigm for creating production-ready, editable, and structurally sound 3D assets. Codes will be released for public research.

P3-SAM: Native 3D Part Segmentation

Segmenting 3D assets into their constituent parts is crucial for enhancing 3D understanding, facilitating model reuse, and supporting various applications such as part generation. However, current methods face limitations such as poor robustness when dealing with complex objects and cannot fully automate the process. In this paper, we propose a native 3D point-promptable part segmentation model termed P$^3$-SAM, designed to fully automate the segmentation of any 3D objects into components. Inspired by SAM, P$^3$-SAM consists of a feature extractor, multiple segmentation heads, and an IoU predictor, enabling interactive segmentation for users. We also propose an algorithm to automatically select and merge masks predicted by our model for part instance segmentation. Our model is trained on a newly built dataset containing nearly 3.7 million models with reasonable segmentation labels. Comparisons show that our method achieves precise segmentation results and strong robustness on any complex objects, attaining state-of-the-art performance. Our project page is available at https://murcherful.github.io/P3-SAM/.

GeoSAM2: Unleashing the Power of SAM2 for 3D Part Segmentation

We introduce GeoSAM2, a prompt-controllable framework for 3D part segmentation that casts the task as multi-view 2D mask prediction. Given a textureless object, we render normal and point maps from predefined viewpoints and accept simple 2D prompts - clicks or boxes - to guide part selection. These prompts are processed by a shared SAM2 backbone augmented with LoRA and residual geometry fusion, enabling view-specific reasoning while preserving pretrained priors. The predicted masks are back-projected to the object and aggregated across views. Our method enables fine-grained, part-specific control without requiring text prompts, per-shape optimization, or full 3D labels. In contrast to global clustering or scale-based methods, prompts are explicit, spatially grounded, and interpretable. We achieve state-of-the-art class-agnostic performance on PartObjaverse-Tiny and PartNetE, outperforming both slow optimization-based pipelines and fast but coarse feedforward approaches. Our results highlight a new paradigm: aligning the paradigm of 3D segmentation with SAM2, leveraging interactive 2D inputs to unlock controllability and precision in object-level part understanding.

OmniPart: Part-Aware 3D Generation with Semantic Decoupling and Structural Cohesion

The creation of 3D assets with explicit, editable part structures is crucial for advancing interactive applications, yet most generative methods produce only monolithic shapes, limiting their utility. We introduce OmniPart, a novel framework for part-aware 3D object generation designed to achieve high semantic decoupling among components while maintaining robust structural cohesion. OmniPart uniquely decouples this complex task into two synergistic stages: (1) an autoregressive structure planning module generates a controllable, variable-length sequence of 3D part bounding boxes, critically guided by flexible 2D part masks that allow for intuitive control over part decomposition without requiring direct correspondences or semantic labels; and (2) a spatially-conditioned rectified flow model, efficiently adapted from a pre-trained holistic 3D generator, synthesizes all 3D parts simultaneously and consistently within the planned layout. Our approach supports user-defined part granularity, precise localization, and enables diverse downstream applications. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OmniPart achieves state-of-the-art performance, paving the way for more interpretable, editable, and versatile 3D content.

DreamComposer++: Empowering Diffusion Models with Multi-View Conditions for 3D Content Generation

Recent advancements in leveraging pre-trained 2D diffusion models achieve the generation of high-quality novel views from a single in-the-wild image. However, existing works face challenges in producing controllable novel views due to the lack of information from multiple views. In this paper, we present DreamComposer++, a flexible and scalable framework designed to improve current view-aware diffusion models by incorporating multi-view conditions. Specifically, DreamComposer++ utilizes a view-aware 3D lifting module to extract 3D representations of an object from various views. These representations are then aggregated and rendered into the latent features of target view through the multi-view feature fusion module. Finally, the obtained features of target view are integrated into pre-trained image or video diffusion models for novel view synthesis. Experimental results demonstrate that DreamComposer++ seamlessly integrates with cutting-edge view-aware diffusion models and enhances their abilities to generate controllable novel views from multi-view conditions. This advancement facilitates controllable 3D object reconstruction and enables a wide range of applications.

Implicit and Explicit Research Quality Score Probabilities from ChatGPT

The large language model (LLM) ChatGPT's quality scores for journal articles correlate more strongly with human judgements than some citation-based indicators in most fields. Averaging multiple ChatGPT scores improves the results, apparently leveraging its internal probability model. To leverage these probabilities, this article tests two novel strategies: requesting percentage likelihoods for scores and extracting the probabilities of alternative tokens in the responses. The probability estimates were then used to calculate weighted average scores. Both strategies were evaluated with five iterations of ChatGPT 4o-mini on 96,800 articles submitted to the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, using departmental average REF2021 quality scores as a proxy for article quality. The data was analysed separately for each of the 34 field-based REF Units of Assessment. For the first strategy, explicit requests for tables of score percentage likelihoods substantially decreased the value of the scores (lower correlation with the proxy quality indicator). In contrast, weighed averages of score token probabilities slightly increased the correlation with the quality proxy indicator and these probabilities reasonably accurately reflected ChatGPT's outputs. The token probability approach is therefore the most accurate method for ranking articles by research quality as well as being cheaper than comparable ChatGPT strategies.
