Possible Eliashberg-type superconductivity enhancement effects in a two-band superconductor MgB2 driven by narrow-band THz pulses

We study THz-driven condensate dynamics in epitaxial thin films of MgB$_{2}$, a prototype two-band superconductor (SC) with weak interband coupling. The temperature and excitation density dependent dynamics follow the behavior predicted by the phenomenological bottleneck model for the single-gap SC, implying adiabatic coupling between the two condensates on the ps timescale. The amplitude of the THz-driven suppression of condensate density reveals an unexpected decrease in pair-breaking efficiency with increasing temperature - unlike in the case of optical excitation. The reduced pair-breaking efficiency of narrow-band THz pulses, displaying minimum near $\approx0.7$ T$_{c}$, is attributed to THz-driven, long-lived, non-thermal quasiparticle distribution, resulting in Eliashberg-type enhancement of superconductivity, competing with pair-breaking.

Individual and Averaged Power Density Spectra of X-ray bursts from SGR J1935+2154: Quasiperiodic Oscillation Search and Slopes

The study of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) and power density spectra (PDS) continuum properties can help shed light on the still illusive emission physics of magnetars and as a window into the interiors of neutron stars using asteroseismology. In this work, we employ a Bayesian method to search for the QPOs in the hundreds of X-ray bursts from SGR J1935+2154 observed by {\it Insight}-HXMT, GECAM and Fermi/GBM from July 2014 to January 2022. Although no definitive QPO signal (significance $>3σ$) is detected in individual bursts or the averaged periodogram of the bursts grouped by duration, we identify several bursts exhibiting possible QPO at $\sim$ 40 Hz, which is consistent with that reported in the X-ray burst associated with FRB 200428. We investigate the PDS continuum properties and find that the distribution of the PDS slope in the simple power-law model peaks $\sim$ 2.5, which is consistent with other magnetars but higher than 5/3 commonly seen in gamma-ray bursts. Besides, the distribution of the break frequency in the broken power-law model peaks at $\sim$ 60 Hz. Finally, we report that the power-law index of PDS has an anti-correlation and power-law dependence on the burst duration as well as the minimum variation timescale.

The Minimum Variation Timescales of X-ray bursts from SGR J1935+2154

The minimum variation timescale (MVT) of soft gamma-ray repeaters can be an important probe to estimate the emission region in pulsar-like models, as well as the Lorentz factor and radius of the possible relativistic jet in gamma-ray burst (GRB)-like models, thus revealing their progenitors and physical mechanisms. In this work, we systematically study the MVTs of hundreds of X-ray bursts (XRBs) from SGR J1935+2154 observed by {\it Insight}-HXMT, GECAM and Fermi/GBM from July 2014 to Jan 2022 through the Bayesian Block algorithm. We find that the MVTs peak at $\sim$ 2 ms, corresponding to a light travel time size of about 600 km, which supports the magnetospheric origin in pulsar-like models. The shock radius and the Lorentz factor of the jet are also constrained in GRB-like models. Interestingly, the MVT of the XRB associated with FRB 200428 is $\sim$ 70 ms, which is longer than that of most bursts and implies its special radiation mechanism. Besides, the median of MVTs is 7 ms, shorter than the median MVTs of 40 ms and 480 ms for short GRBs or long GRBs, respectively. However, the MVT is independent of duration, similar to GRBs. Finally, we investigate the energy dependence of MVT and suggest that there is a marginal evidence for a power-law relationship like GRBs but the rate of variation is at least about an order of magnitude smaller. These features may provide an approach to identify bursts with a magnetar origin.

Joint Radio Frequency Fingerprints Identification via Multi-antenna Receiver

In Internet of Things (IoT), radio frequency fingerprints (RFF) technology has been widely used for passive security authentication to identify the special emitter. However, few works took advantage of independent oscillator distortions at the receiver side, and no work has yet considered filtering receiver distortions. In this paper, we investigate the RFF identification (RFFI) involving unknown receiver distortions, where the phase noise caused by each antenna oscillator is independent. Three RFF schemes are proposed according to the number of receiving antennas. When the number is small, the Mutual Information Weighting Scheme (MIWS) is developed by calculating the weighted voting of RFFI result at each antenna; when the number is moderate, the Distortions Filtering Scheme (DFS) is developed by filtering out the channel noise and receiver distortions; when the number is large enough, the Group-Distortions Filtering and Weighting Scheme (GDFWS) is developed, which integrates the advantages of MIWS and DFS. Furthermore, the ability of DFS to filter out the channel noise and receiver distortions is theoretically analyzed at a specific confidence level. Experiments are provided when both channel noise and receiver distortions exist, which verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed schemes.

RPN: A Word Vector Level Data Augmentation Algorithm in Deep Learning for Language Understanding

Data augmentation is a widely used technique in machine learning to improve model performance. However, existing data augmentation techniques in natural language understanding (NLU) may not fully capture the complexity of natural language variations, and they can be challenging to apply to large datasets. This paper proposes the Random Position Noise (RPN) algorithm, a novel data augmentation technique that operates at the word vector level. RPN modifies the word embeddings of the original text by introducing noise based on the existing values of selected word vectors, allowing for more fine-grained modifications and better capturing natural language variations. Unlike traditional data augmentation methods, RPN does not require gradients in the computational graph during virtual sample updates, making it simpler to apply to large datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that RPN consistently outperforms existing data augmentation techniques across various NLU tasks, including sentiment analysis, natural language inference, and paraphrase detection. Moreover, RPN performs well in low-resource settings and is applicable to any model featuring a word embeddings layer. The proposed RPN algorithm is a promising approach for enhancing NLU performance and addressing the challenges associated with traditional data augmentation techniques in large-scale NLU tasks. Our experimental results demonstrated that the RPN algorithm achieved state-of-the-art performance in all seven NLU tasks, thereby highlighting its effectiveness and potential for real-world NLU applications.

Existence and Instability of Standing Wave for the Two-wave Model with Quadratic Interaction

In this paper, we establish the existence and instability of standing wave for a system of nonlinear Schrödinger equations arising in the two-wave model with quadratic interaction in higher space dimensions under mass resonance conditions. Here, we eliminate the limitation for the relationship between complex constants $a_{1}$ and $a_{2}$ given in \cite{HOT}, and consider arbitrary real positive constants $a_{1}$ and $a_{2}$. First of all, according to the conservation identities for mass and energy, using the so-called virial type estimate, we obtain that the solution for the Cauchy problem under consideration blows up in finite time in $H^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{N})\times H^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{N})$ with space dimension $N\geq 4$. Next, for space dimension $N$ with $4<N<6$, we establish the existence of the ground state solution for the elliptic equations corresponding to the nonlinear Schrödinger equations under the frequency and mass resonance by adopting variational method, and further achieve the exponential decay at infinity for the ground state. This implies the existence of standing wave for the nonlinear Schrödinger equaitons under consideration. Finally, by defining another constrained minimizing problems for a pair of complex-valued functions, a suitable manifold, referring to the characterization of the standing wave, making appropriate scaling and adopting virial type estimate, we attain the instability of the standing wave for the equations under frequency and mass resonance in space dimension $N$ with $4<N<6$ by virtue of the conservations of mass and energy. Here, we adopt the equivalence of two constrained minimizing problems defined for pairs of complex-valued and real-valued functions $(u,v)$, respectively, when $(u,v)$ is a pair of real-valued functions.

VectorMapNet: End-to-end Vectorized HD Map Learning

Autonomous driving systems require High-Definition (HD) semantic maps to navigate around urban roads. Existing solutions approach the semantic mapping problem by offline manual annotation, which suffers from serious scalability issues. Recent learning-based methods produce dense rasterized segmentation predictions to construct maps. However, these predictions do not include instance information of individual map elements and require heuristic post-processing to obtain vectorized maps. To tackle these challenges, we introduce an end-to-end vectorized HD map learning pipeline, termed VectorMapNet. VectorMapNet takes onboard sensor observations and predicts a sparse set of polylines in the bird's-eye view. This pipeline can explicitly model the spatial relation between map elements and generate vectorized maps that are friendly to downstream autonomous driving tasks. Extensive experiments show that VectorMapNet achieve strong map learning performance on both nuScenes and Argoverse2 dataset, surpassing previous state-of-the-art methods by 14.2 mAP and 14.6mAP. Qualitatively, VectorMapNet is capable of generating comprehensive maps and capturing fine-grained details of road geometry. To the best of our knowledge, VectorMapNet is the first work designed towards end-to-end vectorized map learning from onboard observations. On Uni-Modal Feature Learning in Supervised Multi-Modal Learning

We abstract the features (i.e. learned representations) of multi-modal data into 1) uni-modal features, which can be learned from uni-modal training, and 2) paired features, which can only be learned from cross-modal interactions. Multi-modal models are expected to benefit from cross-modal interactions on the basis of ensuring uni-modal feature learning. However, recent supervised multi-modal late-fusion training approaches still suffer from insufficient learning of uni-modal features on each modality. We prove that this phenomenon does hurt the model's generalization ability. To this end, we propose to choose a targeted late-fusion learning method for the given supervised multi-modal task from Uni-Modal Ensemble(UME) and the proposed Uni-Modal Teacher(UMT), according to the distribution of uni-modal and paired features. We demonstrate that, under a simple guiding strategy, we can achieve comparable results to other complex late-fusion or intermediate-fusion methods on various multi-modal datasets, including VGG-Sound, Kinetics-400, UCF101, and ModelNet40.

NF-Atlas: Multi-Volume Neural Feature Fields for Large Scale LiDAR Mapping

LiDAR Mapping has been a long-standing problem in robotics. Recent progress in neural implicit representation has brought new opportunities to robotic mapping. In this paper, we propose the multi-volume neural feature fields, called NF-Atlas, which bridge the neural feature volumes with pose graph optimization. By regarding the neural feature volume as pose graph nodes and the relative pose between volumes as pose graph edges, the entire neural feature field becomes both locally rigid and globally elastic. Locally, the neural feature volume employs a sparse feature Octree and a small MLP to encode the submap SDF with an option of semantics. Learning the map using this structure allows for end-to-end solving of maximum a posteriori (MAP) based probabilistic mapping. Globally, the map is built volume by volume independently, avoiding catastrophic forgetting when mapping incrementally. Furthermore, when a loop closure occurs, with the elastic pose graph based representation, only updating the origin of neural volumes is required without remapping. Finally, these functionalities of NF-Atlas are validated. Thanks to the sparsity and the optimization based formulation, NF-Atlas shows competitive performance in terms of accuracy, efficiency and memory usage on both simulation and real-world datasets.

Comprehensive evidence of lasing from a 2D material enabled by a dual-resonance metasurface

Semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have gained significant attention as a gain medium for nanolasers, owing to their unique ability to be easily placed and stacked on virtually any substrate. However, the atomically thin nature of the active material in existing TMD nanolasers presents a challenge, as their limited output power makes it difficult to distinguish between true laser operation and other "laser-like" phenomena. Here, we present comprehensive evidence of lasing from a CVD-grown tungsten disulphide (WS$_2$) monolayer. The monolayer is placed on a dual-resonance dielectric metasurface with a rectangular lattice designed to enhance both absorption and emission; resulting in an ultralow threshold operation (threshold <1 W/cm$^2$). We provide a thorough study of the laser performance at room temperature, paying special attention to directionality, output power, and spatial coherence. Notably, our lasers demonstrated a coherence length of over 30 $μ$m, which is several times greater than what has been reported for 2D material lasers so far. Our realisation of a single-mode laser from a wafer-scale CVD-grown monolayer presents exciting opportunities for integration and the development of novel applications.

ViP3D: End-to-end Visual Trajectory Prediction via 3D Agent Queries

Perception and prediction are two separate modules in the existing autonomous driving systems. They interact with each other via hand-picked features such as agent bounding boxes and trajectories. Due to this separation, prediction, as a downstream module, only receives limited information from the perception module. To make matters worse, errors from the perception modules can propagate and accumulate, adversely affecting the prediction results. In this work, we propose ViP3D, a query-based visual trajectory prediction pipeline that exploits rich information from raw videos to directly predict future trajectories of agents in a scene. ViP3D employs sparse agent queries to detect, track, and predict throughout the pipeline, making it the first fully differentiable vision-based trajectory prediction approach. Instead of using historical feature maps and trajectories, useful information from previous timestamps is encoded in agent queries, which makes ViP3D a concise streaming prediction method. Furthermore, extensive experimental results on the nuScenes dataset show the strong vision-based prediction performance of ViP3D over traditional pipelines and previous end-to-end models.

Neural Map Prior for Autonomous Driving

High-definition (HD) semantic maps are crucial in enabling autonomous vehicles to navigate urban environments. The traditional method of creating offline HD maps involves labor-intensive manual annotation processes, which are not only costly but also insufficient for timely updates. Recent studies have proposed an alternative approach that generates local maps using online sensor observations. However, this approach is limited by the sensor's perception range and its susceptibility to occlusions. In this study, we propose Neural Map Prior (NMP), a neural representation of global maps. This representation automatically updates itself and improves the performance of local map inference. Specifically, we utilize two approaches to achieve this. Firstly, to integrate a strong map prior into local map inference, we apply cross-attention, a mechanism that dynamically identifies correlations between current and prior features. Secondly, to update the global neural map prior, we utilize a learning-based fusion module that guides the network in fusing features from previous traversals. Our experimental results, based on the nuScenes dataset, demonstrate that our framework is highly compatible with various map segmentation and detection architectures. It significantly improves map prediction performance, even in challenging weather conditions and situations with a longer perception range. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first learning-based system for creating a global map prior.

Inactivated COVID-19 Vaccination did not affect In vitro fertilization (IVF) / Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) cycle outcomes

Background: The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 inactivated vaccine administration on the outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles in infertile couples in China. Methods: We collected data from the CYART prospective cohort, which included couples undergoing IVF treatment from January 2021 to September 2022 at Sichuan Jinxin Xinan Women & Children's Hospital. Based on whether they received vaccination before ovarian stimulation, the couples were divided into the vaccination group and the non-vaccination group. We compared the laboratory parameters and pregnancy outcomes between the two groups. Findings: After performing propensity score matching (PSM), the analysis demonstrated similar clinical pregnancy rates, biochemical pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated women. No significant disparities were found in terms of embryo development and laboratory parameters among the groups. Moreover, male vaccination had no impact on patient performance or pregnancy outcomes in assisted reproductive technology treatments. Additionally, there were no significant differences observed in the effects of vaccination on embryo development and pregnancy outcomes among couples undergoing ART. Interpretation: The findings suggest that COVID-19 vaccination did not have a significant effect on patients undergoing IVF/ICSI with fresh embryo transfer. Therefore, it is recommended that couples should receive COVID-19 vaccination as scheduled to help mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

We propose and investigate a simple approach of treating each row in a table as a sentence and training a language model with differential privacy. We show this approach obtains competitive results in modelling tabular data across multiple datasets, even at small scales that favor alternative methods based on marginal distributions.

NeuralStagger: Accelerating Physics-constrained Neural PDE Solver with Spatial-temporal Decomposition

Neural networks have shown great potential in accelerating the solution of partial differential equations (PDEs). Recently, there has been a growing interest in introducing physics constraints into training neural PDE solvers to reduce the use of costly data and improve the generalization ability. However, these physics constraints, based on certain finite dimensional approximations over the function space, must resolve the smallest scaled physics to ensure the accuracy and stability of the simulation, resulting in high computational costs from large input, output, and neural networks. This paper proposes a general acceleration methodology called NeuralStagger by spatially and temporally decomposing the original learning tasks into several coarser-resolution subtasks. We define a coarse-resolution neural solver for each subtask, which requires fewer computational resources, and jointly train them with the vanilla physics-constrained loss by simply arranging their outputs to reconstruct the original solution. Due to the perfect parallelism between them, the solution is achieved as fast as a coarse-resolution neural solver. In addition, the trained solvers bring the flexibility of simulating with multiple levels of resolution. We demonstrate the successful application of NeuralStagger on 2D and 3D fluid dynamics simulations, which leads to an additional $10\sim100\times$ speed-up. Moreover, the experiment also shows that the learned model could be well used for optimal control.

'Tax-free' 3DMM Conditional Face Generation

3DMM conditioned face generation has gained traction due to its well-defined controllability; however, the trade-off is lower sample quality: Previous works such as DiscoFaceGAN and 3D-FM GAN show a significant FID gap compared to the unconditional StyleGAN, suggesting that there is a quality tax to pay for controllability. In this paper, we challenge the assumption that quality and controllability cannot coexist. To pinpoint the previous issues, we mathematically formalize the problem of 3DMM conditioned face generation. Then, we devise simple solutions to the problem under our proposed framework. This results in a new model that effectively removes the quality tax between 3DMM conditioned face GANs and the unconditional StyleGAN.

Complex-valued neural operator assisted soliton identification

The numerical determination of solitary states is an important topic for such research areas as Bose-Einstein condensates, nonlinear optics, plasma physics, etc. In this paper, we propose a data-driven approach for identifying solitons based on dynamical solutions of real-time differential equations. Our approach combines a machine-learning architecture called the complex-valued neural operator (CNO) with an energy-restricted gradient optimization. The former serves as a generalization of the traditional neural operator to the complex domain, and constructs a smooth mapping between the initial and final states; the latter facilitates the search for solitons by constraining the energy space. We concretely demonstrate this approach on the quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate with homogeneous and inhomogeneous nonlinearities. Our work offers a new idea for data-driven effective modeling and studies of solitary waves in nonlinear physical systems.

Leveraging BEV Representation for 360-degree Visual Place Recognition

This paper investigates the advantages of using Bird's Eye View (BEV) representation in 360-degree visual place recognition (VPR). We propose a novel network architecture that utilizes the BEV representation in feature extraction, feature aggregation, and vision-LiDAR fusion, which bridges visual cues and spatial awareness. Our method extracts image features using standard convolutional networks and combines the features according to pre-defined 3D grid spatial points. To alleviate the mechanical and time misalignments between cameras, we further introduce deformable attention to learn the compensation. Upon the BEV feature representation, we then employ the polar transform and the Discrete Fourier transform for aggregation, which is shown to be rotation-invariant. In addition, the image and point cloud cues can be easily stated in the same coordinates, which benefits sensor fusion for place recognition. The proposed BEV-based method is evaluated in ablation and comparative studies on two datasets, including on-the-road and off-the-road scenarios. The experimental results verify the hypothesis that BEV can benefit VPR by its superior performance compared to baseline methods. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first trial of employing BEV representation in this task.
