The FlySpeech Audio-Visual Speaker Diarization System for MISP Challenge 2022

This paper describes the FlySpeech speaker diarization system submitted to the second \textbf{M}ultimodal \textbf{I}nformation Based \textbf{S}peech \textbf{P}rocessing~(\textbf{MISP}) Challenge held in ICASSP 2022. We develop an end-to-end audio-visual speaker diarization~(AVSD) system, which consists of a lip encoder, a speaker encoder, and an audio-visual decoder. Specifically, to mitigate the degradation of diarization performance caused by separate training, we jointly train the speaker encoder and the audio-visual decoder. In addition, we leverage the large-data pretrained speaker extractor to initialize the speaker encoder.

Large deviation principle for stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with super-linear drift on $\mathbb{R}$ driven by space-time white noise

In this paper, we consider stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with super-linear drift on the real line $\mathbb{R}$ driven by space-time white noise. A Freidlin-Wentzell large deviation principle is established by a modified weak convergence method on the space $C([0,T], C_{tem}(\mathbb{R}))$. Obtaining the main result in this paper is challenging due to the setting of unbounded domain, the space-time white noise, and the superlinear drift term without dissipation. To overcome these difficulties, the special designed norm on $C([0,T], C_{tem}(\mathbb{R}))$, one order moment estimates of the stochastic convolution and two nonlinear Gronwall-type inequalities play an important role.

A mixed-norm estimate of the two-particle reduced density matrix of many-body Schrödinger dynamics for deriving the Vlasov equation

We re-examine the combined semi-classical and mean-field limit in the $N$-body fermionic Schrödinger equation with pure state initial data using the Husimi measure framework. The Husimi measure equation involves three residue types: kinetic, semiclassical, and mean-field. The main result of this paper is to provide better estimates for the kinetic and mean-field residue than those in \cite{Chen2021JSP}. Especially, the estimate for the mean-field residue is shown to be smaller than the semiclassical residue by a mixed-norm estimate of the two-particle reduced density matrix factorization. Our analysis also updates the oscillation estimate parts in the residual term estimates appeared in \cite{Chen2021JSP}.

Transportation cost inequalities for stochastic reaction diffusion equations on the whole line $\mathbb{R}$

In this paper, we established quadratic transportation cost inequalities for solutions of stochastic reaction diffusion equations driven by multiplicative space-time white noise on the whole line $\mathbb{R}$. Since the space variable is defined on the unbounded domain $\mathbb{R}$, the inequalities are proved under a weighted $L^2$-norm and a weighted uniform metric in the so called $L^2_{tem}$, $C_{tem}$ spaces. The new moments estimates of the stochastic convolution with respect to space-time white noise play an important role. In addition, the transportation cost inequalities are also obtained for the stochastic reaction diffusion equations with random initial values.

DECLOAK: Enable Secure and Cheap Multi-Party Transactions on Legacy Blockchains by a Minimally Trusted TEE Network

As the confidentiality and scalability of smart contracts have become a crucial demand of blockchains, off-chain contract execution frameworks have been promising. Some have recently expanded off-chain contracts to Multi-Party Computation (MPC), which seek to transition the on-chain states by off-chain MPC. The most general problem among these solutions is MPT, since its off-chain MPC takes on- and off-chain inputs, delivers on- and off-chain outputs, and can be publicly verified by the blockchain, thus capable of covering more scenarios. However, existing Multi-Party Transaction (MPT) solutions lack at least one of data availability, financial fairness, delivery fairness, and delivery atomicity. These properties are crucially valued by communities, e.g., the Ethereum community, or users. Even worse, these solutions require high-cost interactions between the blockchain and off-chain systems. This paper proposes a novel MPT-enabled off-chain contract execution framework, DECLOAK. DECLOAK is the first to achieve data availability of MPT, and our method can apply to other fields that seek to persist user data on-chain. Moreover, DECLOAK solves all mentioned shortcomings with even lower gas costs and weaker assumptions. Specifically, DECLOAK tolerates all but one Byzantine party and TEE executors. Evaluating on 10 MPTs, DECLOAK reduces the gas cost of the SOTA, Cloak, by 65.6%. Consequently, we are the first to not only achieve such level secure MPT in practical assumption, but also demonstrate that evaluating MPT in the comparable gas cost to normal Ethereum transaction is possible. And the cost superiority of DECLOAK increases as the number of MPT parties grows.

Context Sensitivity without Contexts: A Cut-Shortcut Approach to Fast and Precise Pointer Analysis

Over the past decades, context sensitivity has been considered as one of the most effective ideas for improving the precision of pointer analysis for Java. However, despite great precision benefits, as each method is equivalently cloned and analyzed under each context, context sensitivity brings heavy efficiency costs. In this work, we present a fundamentally different approach called Cut-Shortcut for fast and precise pointer analysis for Java. Its insight is simple: the main effect of cloning methods under different contexts is to filter spurious object flows that have been merged inside a callee method; from the view of a typical pointer flow graph (PFG), such effect can be simulated by cutting off (Cut) the edges that introduce precision loss to certain pointers and adding Shortcut edges directly from source pointers to the target ones circumventing the method on PFG. As a result, we can achieve the effect of context sensitivity without contexts. We identify three general program patterns and develop algorithms based on them to safely cut off and add shortcut edges on PFG, formalize them and formally prove the soundness. To comprehensively validate Cut-Shortcut's effectiveness, we implement two versions of Cut-Shortcut for two state-of-the-art pointer analysis frameworks for Java, one in Datalog for the declarative Doop and the other in Java for the imperative Tai-e, and we consider all the large and complex programs used in recent literatures that meet the experimental requirements. The evaluation results are extremely promising: Cut-Shortcut is even able to run faster than context insensitivity for most evaluated programs while obtaining high precision that is comparable to context sensitivity (if scalable) in both frameworks. This is for the first time that we have been able to achieve such a good efficiency and precision trade-off for those hard-to-analyze programs.

Ground-state and thermal entanglements in a non-Hermitian XY system with real and imaginary magnetic fields

In this manuscript, we study the non-Hermitian spin-1/2 XY model in the presence of the alternating, imaginary and transverse magnetic fields. For the two-site spin system, we solve exactly the energy spectrum and phase diagram, also calculate the ground-state and thermal entanglements by using the concept of the concurrence. It is found that the two-site concurrence in the eigenstate which only depends on the imaginary magnetic field η is always equal to one in the region of PT symmetry, while it decreases with η in the PT-symmetric broken region. Especially, the concurrence shows the non-analytic behavior at the exceptional point, and the same is true in the case of the biorthogonal basis, which indicates that the concurrence can characterize the phase transition in this non-Hermitian system. The interesting thing is that η weakens the thermal entanglement when the system is isotropic and enhances the entanglement when the system becomes the Ising model. For the one-dimensional spin chain, the magnetization and entanglement are further studied by using the two-spin cluster mean-field approximation. The results show that their variations have opposite trends with the magnetic fields. Moreover, the system exists the first-order quantum phase transitions for some anisotropic parameters in the PT-symmetry region, and the entanglement changes suddenly at the quantum phase transition point.

Phase Field Model for Non-equilibrium Interface Conditions

This article presents a new phase-field formulation for non-equilibrium interface conditions in rapid phase transformations. With a particular way of defining concentration fields, the classical sharp and diffuse (thick) interface theories are unified into the present phase-field model. Each point inside the diffuse interface is comparable to the classical sharp interface model, governed by phase boundary migration and short-range atomic exchanges and connected by long-range diffusion. Their thermodynamic forces and fluxes are following the Onsager reciprocal relation and consistent with the classical irreversible thermodynamics. Furthermore, we establish the balance of driving forces and energy dissipations for both the diffuse interface and the single point inside it. The model is then validated by rapid solidification of Al-Cu alloys. With an effective mobility of considering non-equilibrium long-range diffusion, the model represents the main characteristics of non-equilibrium interface kinetics, i.e., solute trapping and solute drag. Especially, we reproduce the complete trapping at the high-velocity regime and provide a thermodynamic consistent description of the partial drag phenomena at the low-velocity region. Moreover, the dissipation analysis indicates that even the far-from-equilibrium diffuse interface is composed of numerous representative volume elements near the equilibrium, providing a new understanding of non-equilibrium interfaces.

Machine learning-enabled tomographic imaging of chemical short-range atomic ordering

In solids, chemical short-range order (CSRO) refers to the self-organisation of atoms of certain species occupying specific crystal sites. CSRO is increasingly being envisaged as a lever to tailor the mechanical and functional properties of materials. Yet quantitative relationships between properties and the morphology, number density, and atomic configurations of CSRO domains remain elusive. Herein, we showcase how machine learning-enhanced atom probe tomography (APT) can mine the near-atomically resolved APT data and jointly exploit the technique's high elemental sensitivity to provide a 3D quantitative analysis of CSRO in a CoCrNi medium-entropy alloy. We reveal multiple CSRO configurations, with their formation supported by state-of-the-art Monte-Carlo simulations. Quantitative analysis of these CSROs allows us to establish relationships between processing parameters and physical properties. The unambiguous characterization of CSRO will help refine strategies for designing advanced materials by manipulating atomic-scale architectures.

Thermodynamics of Non-equilibrium Diffuse-Interfaces in Mesoscale Phase Transformations

We present a new phase-field formulation for the non-equilibrium interface kinetics. The diffuse interface is considered an integral of numerous representative volume elements (RVEs), in which there is a two-phase mixture with two conserved and two non-conserved concentration fields. This particular way of separating concentration fields leads to two distinct dissipative processes besides the phase boundary migration, i.e., trans-sharp-interface diffusion between different phases within a single RVE and trans-diffuse-interface diffusion between different RVEs within a single phase. A two-part mechanism is proposed to balance the driving forces and energy dissipation for diffusionless and diffusional processes in RVEs. Moreover, the classical interface friction and solute drag can be recovered by integrating the diffuse interface. Compared with the sharp interface theory, the present diffuse interface can reproduce the atomic simulated partial-drag self-consistently in thermodynamics.

Distance-based Weight Transfer from Near-field to Far-field Speaker Verification

The scarcity of labeled far-field speech is a constraint for training superior far-field speaker verification systems. Fine-tuning the model pre-trained on large-scale near-field speech substantially outperforms training from scratch. However, the fine-tuning method suffers from two limitations--catastrophic forgetting and overfitting. In this paper, we propose a weight transfer regularization(WTR) loss to constrain the distance of the weights between the pre-trained model with large-scale near-field speech and the fine-tuned model through a small number of far-field speech. With the WTR loss, the fine-tuning process takes advantage of the previously acquired discriminative ability from the large-scale near-field speech without catastrophic forgetting. Meanwhile, we use the PAC-Bayes generalization theory to analyze the generalization bound of the fine-tuned model with the WTR loss. The analysis result indicates that the WTR term makes the fine-tuned model have a tighter generalization upper bound. Moreover, we explore three kinds of norm distance for weight transfer, which are L1-norm distance, L2-norm distance and Max-norm distance. Finally, we evaluate the effectiveness of the WTR loss on VoxCeleb (pre-trained dataset) and FFSVC (fine-tuned dataset) datasets.

QVRF: A Quantization-error-aware Variable Rate Framework for Learned Image Compression

Learned image compression has exhibited promising compression performance, but variable bitrates over a wide range remain a challenge. State-of-the-art variable rate methods compromise the loss of model performance and require numerous additional parameters. In this paper, we present a Quantization-error-aware Variable Rate Framework (QVRF) that utilizes a univariate quantization regulator a to achieve wide-range variable rates within a single model. Specifically, QVRF defines a quantization regulator vector coupled with predefined Lagrange multipliers to control quantization error of all latent representation for discrete variable rates. Additionally, the reparameterization method makes QVRF compatible with a round quantizer. Exhaustive experiments demonstrate that existing fixed-rate VAE-based methods equipped with QVRF can achieve wide-range continuous variable rates within a single model without significant performance degradation. Furthermore, QVRF outperforms contemporary variable-rate methods in rate-distortion performance with minimal additional parameters.

Coexistence of Merons with Skyrmions in the Centrosymmetric van der Waals Ferromagnet Fe5GeTe2

Fe$_{5-x}$GeTe$_2$ is a centrosymmetric, layered van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnet that displays Curie temperatures $T_c$ (270-330 K) that are within the useful range for spintronic applications. However, little is known about the interplay between its topological spin textures (e.g., merons, skyrmions) with technologically relevant transport properties such as the topological Hall effect (THE), or topological thermal transport. Here, we show via high-resolution Lorentz transmission electron microscopy that merons and anti-meron pairs coexist with Néel skyrmions in Fe$_{5-x}$GeTe$_2$ over a wide range of temperatures and probe their effects on thermal and electrical transport. We detect a THE, even at room $T$, that senses merons at higher $T$s as well as their coexistence with skyrmions as $T$ is lowered indicating an on-demand thermally driven formation of either type of spin texture. Remarkably, we also observe an unconventional THE in absence of Lorentz force and attribute it to the interaction between charge carriers and magnetic field-induced chiral spin textures. Our results expose Fe$_{5-x}$GeTe$_2$ as a promising candidate for the development of applications in skyrmionics/meronics due to the interplay between distinct but coexisting topological magnetic textures and unconventional transport of charge/heat carriers.

Cloak: Transitioning States on Legacy Blockchains Using Secure and Publicly Verifiable Off-Chain Multi-Party Computation

In recent years, the confidentiality of smart contracts has become a fundamental requirement for practical applications. While many efforts have been made to develop architectural capabilities for enforcing confidential smart contracts, a few works arise to extend confidential smart contracts to Multi-Party Computation (MPC), i.e., multiple parties jointly evaluate a transaction off-chain and commit the outputs on-chain without revealing their secret inputs/outputs to each other. However, existing solutions lack public verifiability and require O(n) transactions to enable negotiation or resist adversaries, thus suffering from inefficiency and compromised security. In this paper, we propose Cloak, a framework for enabling Multi-Party Transaction (MPT) on existing blockchains. An MPT refers to transitioning blockchain states by an publicly verifiable off-chain MPC. We identify and handle the challenges of securing MPT by harmonizing TEE and blockchain. Consequently, Cloak secures the off-chain nondeterministic negotiation process (a party joins an MPT without knowing identities or the total number of parties until the MPT proposal settles), achieves public verifiability (the public can validate that the MPT correctly handles the secret inputs/outputs from multiple parties and reads/writes states on-chain), and resists Byzantine adversaries. According to our proof, Cloak achieves better security with only 2 transactions, superior to previous works that achieve compromised security at O(n) transactions cost. By evaluating examples and real-world MPTs, the gas cost of Cloak reduces by 32.4% on average.

Time-variant Seismic Resilience Analysis Model for Water Distribution Systems

Water distribution systems (WDS) sustained severe damage in the past earthquakes. While previous studies investigated the seismic performance of buried water pipelines, the effects of corrosion on the pipeline seismic performance were ignored. The presence of corrosion on metallic pipeline walls aggravates seismic damage level because corrosion significantly reduces the pipeline strength. Most of the existing buried pipelines in the United States are aged and non-ductile metallic pipelines, which are vulnerable to seismic loading. To ensure continuous and smooth water supply to communities during and after earthquakes, it is necessary to evaluate the system-level seismic performance of WDS considering the aging effect in corroded pipelines. The current study develops a new framework of estimating the seismic resilience of WDS considering the time-variant effect of corrosion. The study formulates an approach that : (1) determines the seismic failure probability of pipeline using an extended American Lifelines Alliance (ALA) model that account for the effects of time-dependent corrosion; and (2) estimates system-level seismic performance based on pipeline reliability and edge betweenness centrality. The proposed approach is illustrated with a scenario earthquake hazard for mid-size WDS. The outcomes of the study reveal that the presence of corrosion on pipelines significantly reduces the system-level seismic performance of WDS. Most cast iron pipes have 100 years lifetime, system-level seismic resilience may decrease by 81% at high seismic wave intensity.

Rigorous Derivation of the Degenerate Parabolic-Elliptic Keller-Segel System from a Moderately Interacting Stochastic Particle System. Part I Partial Differential Equation

The aim of this paper is to provide the analysis result for the partial differential equations arising from the rigorous derivation of the degenerate parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel system from a moderately interacting stochastic particle system. The rigorous derivation is divided into two articles. In this paper, we establish the solution theory of the degenerate parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel problem and its non-local version, which will be used in the second paper for the discussion of the mean-field limit. A parabolic regularized system is introduced to bridge the stochastic particle model and the degenerate Keller-Segel system. We derive the existence of the solution to this regularized system by constructing approximate solutions, giving uniform estimates and taking the limits, where a crucial step is to obtain the L infty Bernstein type estimate for the gradient of the approximate solution. Based on this, we obtain the well-posedness of the corresponding non-local equation through perturbation method. Finally, the weak solution of the degenerate Keller-Segel system is obtained by using a nonlinear version of Aubin-Lions lemma.

This system consists of a kinetic Cucker-Smale equation and a compressible Navier-Stokes system with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. The global existence of weak solutions to this system with adiabatic coefficient $γ> {3}/{2}$ is established.

MSV Challenge 2022: NPU-HC Speaker Verification System for Low-resource Indian Languages

This report describes the NPU-HC speaker verification system submitted to the O-COCOSDA Multi-lingual Speaker Verification (MSV) Challenge 2022, which focuses on developing speaker verification systems for low-resource Asian languages. We participate in the I-MSV track, which aims to develop speaker verification systems for various Indian languages. In this challenge, we first explore different neural network frameworks for low-resource speaker verification. Then we leverage vanilla fine-tuning and weight transfer fine-tuning to transfer the out-domain pre-trained models to the in-domain Indian dataset. Specifically, the weight transfer fine-tuning aims to constrain the distance of the weights between the pre-trained model and the fine-tuned model, which takes advantage of the previously acquired discriminative ability from the large-scale out-domain datasets and avoids catastrophic forgetting and overfitting at the same time. Finally, score fusion is adopted to further improve performance. Together with the above contributions, we obtain 0.223% EER on the public evaluation set, ranking 2nd place on the leaderboard. On the private evaluation set, the EER of our submitted system is 2.123% and 0.630% for the constrained and unconstrained sub-tasks of the I-MSV track, leading to the 1st and 3rd place in the ranking, respectively.
