Compressing Streaming Neural Audio Encoders via Latent-Space Distillation

System-wide Dictation on Apple devices runs entirely on-device, and the speech it transcribes reaches the foundation model through a tokenizer: an encoder that maps short windows of waveform onto the representation the language model reads. Because that model is sparsely activated under Instruction-Following Pruning, only a small subset of its experts occupies DRAM at any time, so the always-on tokenizer competes for the same memory, and its parameter count bears directly on power and latency. In this work we study how to compress such a tokenizer by distillation, taking as the supervision target neither the discrete token nor the output distribution but the pre-quantizer latent the model actually consumes - the last representation the two token interfaces share. We train only the student encoder to regress the teacher's per-frame latent under a squared-error objective, with a single affine layer absorbing the teacher-student width mismatch. Because the target precedes both the quantizer and the language-model bridge, one recipe covers both token interfaces we support, and applies both to a tokenizer pretrained alone and to one jointly trained with a language model. At 2.8x compression the distilled student stays within 1.9% relative WER of its teacher on five of six teacher-student pairs without any fine-tuning, and improves on an independently trained tokenizer of identical capacity by 3.9% relative.

Subcellularly Resolved Single-Cell Embedding Learning with Transcriptomic data, Protein Structure and Localization Information

Existing cell embedding methods predominantly rely on transcriptomic or proteomic measurements and represent each cell as a holistic entity, thereby overlooking the subcellular localization of individual molecules. Moreover, they rarely incorporate protein structural information, despite its fundamental role in determining molecular interactions and functions. In this work, we propose a multimodal framework for learning subcellularly resolved cell embeddings by jointly leveraging RNA expression profiles, protein sequence representations, and protein structural information. Specifically, we employ a cross-attention architecture to integrate transcriptomic, sequence, and structural modalities and model their interactions within distinct subcellular compartments. The resulting embeddings represent each cell through its fine-grained subcellular organization, capturing both molecular expression patterns and the functional properties of the associated proteins. By learning cell representations at subcellular resolution, our framework preserves spatially organized biological information while integrating complementary signals across multiple molecular levels. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first framework that produces subcellularly resolved cell embeddings by jointly incorporating transcriptomic information, protein sequence representations, and protein structural knowledge within a unified cross-modal learning paradigm.

LUNA: Learning Universal 3D Human Animation Beyond Skinning

Creating photorealistic, animatable 3D human avatars from monocular images still largely depends on Linear Blend Skinning (LBS) and parametric body models, which constrain expressivity and often introduce artifacts due to imperfect fitting. We propose LUNA, an LBS-free universal neural animation model that directly maps multiple 2D controls like images, keypoints, sketches, and unseen characters into 3D Gaussian deformations, bypassing explicit body fitting. At its core, a transformer-based motion regressor disentangles global rigid motion from fine-grained local dynamics to capture both coherent movement and subtle non-rigid effects. To resolve the inherent ambiguity of 2D-to-3D lifting while scaling beyond fitted datasets, we introduce hybrid supervision that distills soft structural priors from an LBS teacher and a loss that supports training on both limited fitted data and large in-the-wild unlabeled videos. Extensive experiments show LUNA achieves competitive visual fidelity compared to LBS-based approaches, while delivering realistic human motion and zero-shot cross-identity generalization across diverse driving modalities. To the best of our knowledge, LUNA is the first end-to-end 3D animatable model that supports implicit 2D driving.

MoDGS: Dynamic Gaussian Splatting from Casually-captured Monocular Videos with Depth Priors

In this paper, we propose MoDGS, a new pipeline to render novel views of dy namic scenes from a casually captured monocular video. Previous monocular dynamic NeRF or Gaussian Splatting methods strongly rely on the rapid move ment of input cameras to construct multiview consistency but struggle to recon struct dynamic scenes on casually captured input videos whose cameras are either static or move slowly. To address this challenging task, MoDGS adopts recent single-view depth estimation methods to guide the learning of the dynamic scene. Then, a novel 3D-aware initialization method is proposed to learn a reasonable deformation field and a new robust depth loss is proposed to guide the learning of dynamic scene geometry. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that MoDGS is able to render high-quality novel view images of dynamic scenes from just a casually captured monocular video, which outperforms state-of-the-art meth ods by a significant margin. The code is publicly available now.
