On equations $(-1)^αp^x+(-1)^β(2^k(2p+1))^y=z^2$ with Sophie Germain prime $p$

In this paper, we consider the Diophantine equation $(-1)^αp^x+(-1)^β(2^k(2p+1))^y=z^2$ for Sophie Germain prime $p$ with $α, β\in\{0,1\}$, $αβ=0$ and $k\geq 0$. First, for $p=2$, we solve three Diophantine equations $(-1)^α2^x+(-1)^β(2^{k} 5)^y=z^2$ by using Nagell-Lijunggren Equation and the database LMFDB of elliptic curve $y^2=x^3+ax+b$ over $\mathbb{Q}$. Then we obtain all non-negative integer solutions for the following four types of equations for odd Sophie Germain prime $p$: i) $p^x+(2^{2k+1}(2p+1))^y=z^2$ with $p\equiv 3, 5 \pmod 8$ and $k\geq 0$; ii) $p^x+(2^{2k}(2p+1))^y=z^2$ with $p\equiv 3 \pmod 8$ and $k\geq 1$; iii) $p^x-(2^{k}(2p+1))^y=z^2$ with $p\equiv 3 \pmod 4$ and $k\geq 0$; iv) $-p^x+(2^{k}(2p+1))^y=z^2$ with $p\equiv 1, 3, 5 \pmod 8$ and $k\geq 1$; For each type of the equations, we show the existences of such prime $p$. Since it was conjectured that there exist infinitely many Sophie Germain primes in literature, it is reasonable to conjecture that there exist infinite Sophie Germain primes $p$ such that $p\equiv k \pmod 8$ for any $k\in\{1,3,5,7\}$.

Magnetic ground state of the Kitaev Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$ spin liquid candidate

As a candidate Kitaev material, Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$ exhibits intriguing magnetism on a honeycomb lattice that is believed to be $C_3$-symmetric. Here we report a neutron diffraction study of high quality single crystals under $a$-axis magnetic fields. Our data support the less common notion of a magnetic ground state that corresponds to a triple-$\mathbf{q}$ magnetic structure with $C_3$ symmetry, rather than the multi-domain zigzag structure typically assumed in prototype Kitaev spin liquid candidates. In particular, we find that the field is unable to repopulate the supposed zigzag domains, where the only alternative explanation is that the domains are strongly pinned by hitherto unidentified structural reasons. If the triple-$\mathbf{q}$ structure is correct then this requires reevaluation of many candidate Kitaev materials. We also find that fields beyond about 10 Tesla suppress the long range antiferromagnetic order, allowing new magnetic behavior to emerge different from that expected for a spin liquid.

Blowup dynamics for mass critical Half-wave equation in 2D

We consider the half-wave equation $iu_t=Du-|u|u$ in two dimensions. For the initial data $u_0(x)\in H^{s}(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s\in\left(\frac{3}{4},1\right)$, we obtain the non-radial ground state mass blow-up solutions with the blow-up speed $\|D^{\frac{1}{2}}u(t)\|_{L^2}\sim\frac{1}{|t|}$ as $t\to 0^-$.

Spade: A Real-Time Fraud Detection Framework on Evolving Graphs (Complete Version)

Real-time fraud detection is a challenge for most financial and electronic commercial platforms. To identify fraudulent communities, Grab, one of the largest technology companies in Southeast Asia, forms a graph from a set of transactions and detects dense subgraphs arising from abnormally large numbers of connections among fraudsters. Existing dense subgraph detection approaches focus on static graphs without considering the fact that transaction graphs are highly dynamic. Moreover, detecting dense subgraphs from scratch with graph updates is time consuming and cannot meet the real-time requirement in industry. To address this problem, we introduce an incremental real-time fraud detection framework called Spade. Spade can detect fraudulent communities in hundreds of microseconds on million-scale graphs by incrementally maintaining dense subgraphs. Furthermore, Spade supports batch updates and edge grouping to reduce response latency. Lastly, Spade provides simple but expressive APIs for the design of evolving fraud detection semantics. Developers plug their customized suspiciousness functions into Spade which incrementalizes their semantics without recasting their algorithms. Extensive experiments show that Spade detects fraudulent communities in real time on million-scale graphs. Peeling algorithms incrementalized by Spade are up to a million times faster than the static version.

Bias-Independent Subthreshold Swing in Nanoscale Cold-Source Field-Effect Transistors by Drain Density-of-States Engineering

We report a strategy to design nanoscale cold-source field-effect transistors (CS-FETs) with bias-independent sub-60 mV/dec subthreshold swing (SS). By first-principles calculations and quantum-transport simulations, we reveal that the energy alignment of density of states (DOS) between the drain and source electrodes is critical to achieving bias-independent SS. By defining "gate window", we propose a device model to demonstrate how similar slopes of the drain DOS falling into the gate window can stabilize the SS under different bias. This study underscores the significance of drain DOS engineering in the design of CS-FETs with bias-independent SS for portable electronic applications.

Giant magnetic in-plane anisotropy and competing instabilities in Na3Co2SbO6

We report magnetometry data obtained on twin-free single crystals of Na3Co2SbO6, which is considered a candidate material for realizing the Kitaev honeycomb model for quantum spin liquids. Contrary to a common belief that such materials can be modeled with the symmetries of an ideal honeycomb lattice, our data reveal a pronounced two-fold symmetry and in-plane anisotropy of over 200%, despite the honeycomb layer's tiny orthorhombic distortion of less than 0.2%. We further use magnetic neutron diffraction to elucidate a rich variety of field-induced phases observed in the magnetometry. These phases manifest themselves in the paramagnetic state as diffuse scattering signals associated with competing ferro- and antiferromagnetic instabilities, consistent with a theory that also predicts a quantum spin liquid phase nearby. Our results call for theoretical understanding of the observed in-plane anisotropy, and render Na3Co2SbO6 a promising ground for finding exotic quantum phases by targeted external tuning.

elBERto: Self-supervised Commonsense Learning for Question Answering

Commonsense question answering requires reasoning about everyday situations and causes and effects implicit in context. Typically, existing approaches first retrieve external evidence and then perform commonsense reasoning using these evidence. In this paper, we propose a Self-supervised Bidirectional Encoder Representation Learning of Commonsense (elBERto) framework, which is compatible with off-the-shelf QA model architectures. The framework comprises five self-supervised tasks to force the model to fully exploit the additional training signals from contexts containing rich commonsense. The tasks include a novel Contrastive Relation Learning task to encourage the model to distinguish between logically contrastive contexts, a new Jigsaw Puzzle task that requires the model to infer logical chains in long contexts, and three classic SSL tasks to maintain pre-trained models language encoding ability. On the representative WIQA, CosmosQA, and ReClor datasets, elBERto outperforms all other methods, including those utilizing explicit graph reasoning and external knowledge retrieval. Moreover, elBERto achieves substantial improvements on out-of-paragraph and no-effect questions where simple lexical similarity comparison does not help, indicating that it successfully learns commonsense and is able to leverage it when given dynamic context.

Personalized Saliency in Task-Oriented Semantic Communications: Image Transmission and Performance Analysis

Semantic communication, as a promising technology, has emerged to break through the Shannon limit, which is envisioned as the key enabler and fundamental paradigm for future 6G networks and applications, e.g., smart healthcare. In this paper, we focus on UAV image-sensing-driven task-oriented semantic communications scenarios. The majority of existing work has focused on designing advanced algorithms for high-performance semantic communication. However, the challenges, such as energy-hungry and efficiency-limited image retrieval manner, and semantic encoding without considering user personality, have not been explored yet. These challenges have hindered the widespread adoption of semantic communication. To address the above challenges, at the semantic level, we first design an energy-efficient task-oriented semantic communication framework with a triple-based {\color{black}scene graph} for image information. We then design a new personalized semantic encoder based on user interests to meet the requirements of personalized saliency. Moreover, at the communication level, we study the effects of dynamic wireless fading channels on semantic transmission mathematically and thus design an optimal multi-user resource allocation scheme by using game theory. Numerical results based on real-world datasets clearly indicate that the proposed framework and schemes significantly enhance the personalization and anti-interference performance of semantic communication, and are also efficient to improve the communication quality of semantic communication services.

Limit theorems for the realised semicovariances of multivariate Brownian semistationary processes

In this article we will introduce the realised semicovariance for Brownian semistationary (BSS) processes, which is obtained from the decomposition of the realised covariance matrix into components based on the signs of the returns, and study its in-fill asymptotic properties. More precisely, a weak convergence in the space of càdlàg functions endowed with the Skorohod topology for the realised semicovariance of a general Gaussian process with stationary increments is proved first. The methods are based on Breuer-Major theorems and on a moment bound for sums of products of Gaussian vector's functions. Furthermore, we establish a corresponding stable convergence. Finally, a weak law of large numbers and a central limit theorem for the realised semicovariance of multivariate BSS processes are established. These results extend the limit theorems for the realised covariation to a result for non-linear functionals.

Numerical Investigation of Dynamical and Morphological Trends in Relativistic Jets

Active galactic nuclei (AGN) show a range of morphologies and dynamical properties, which are determined not only by parameters intrinsic to the central engine but also their interaction with the surrounding environment. We investigate the connection of kiloparsec scale AGN jet properties to their intrinsic parameters and surroundings. This is done using a suite of 40 relativistic hydrodynamic simulations spanning a wide range of engine luminosities and opening angles. We explore AGN jet propagation with different ambient density profiles, including $r^{-2}$ (self-similar solution) and $r^{-1}$, which is more relevant for AGN host environments. The Fanaroff-Riley (FR) morphological dichotomy arises naturally in our models. Jets with low energy density compared to the ambient medium produce a center-brightened emissivity distribution, while emissivity from relatively higher energy density jets is dominated by a terminal bright spot. We observe recollimation shocks in our simulations that can generate bright spots along the spine of the jet, providing a possible explanation for "knots" observed in AGN jets. We additionally find a scaling relation between the number of knots and the jet-head-to-surroundings energy density ratio. This scaling relation is generally consistent with the observations of the jets in M87 and Cygnus A. Our model also correctly predicts M87 as FR I and Cygnus A as FR II. Our model can be used to relate jet dynamical parameters such as jet head velocity, jet opening angle, and external pressure to jet power and ambient density estimates.

Deterministic Identification over Channels without CSI

Identification capacities of randomized and deterministic identification were proved to exceed channel capacity for Gaussian channels \emph{with} channel side information (CSI). In this work, we extend deterministic identification to the block fading channels without CSI by applying identification codes for both channel estimation and user identification. We prove that identification capacity is asymptotically higher than transmission capacity even in the absence of CSI. And we also analyze the finite-length performance theoretically and numerically. The simulation results verify the feasibility of the proposed blind deterministic identification in finite blocklength regime.

Connection-oriented and Connectionless Quantum Internet Considering Quantum Repeaters

With the rapid development of quantum information and technology in recent years, the construction of quantum internet for interconnecting all kinds of quantum devices, such as quantum processors and sensors, will be the next trend for practical quantum applications. In this paper, we propose the protocols for construction of connection-oriented and connectionless quantum networks by considering the concrete quantum repeater (QR) nodes. Four classes of QRs networks are considered first and designed with two types of protocols in link layer, i.e. simultaneous and one-by-one link. Based on those two link models, the connection-oriented protocol is presented for all classes of QRs networks and the connectionless protocol is proposed for the first, second and third classes QRs networks by only one-by-one link. Furthermore, we introduce a new hybrid connection model of quantum networks combined with connection-oriented and connectionless for practical uses. Our work is a new attempt to study the model of the network layer for different kinds of QR networks and paves the way for developing the protocol stack of universal large-scale quantum internet.

Classification of solutions to several semi-linear polyharmonic equations and fractional equations

We are concerned with the following semi-linear polyharmonic equation with integral constraint \begin{align} \left\{\begin{array}{rl} &(-Δ)^pu=u^γ_+ ~~ \mbox{ in }{\mathbb{R}^n},\\ \nonumber &\int_{\mathbb{R}^n}u_+^γdx<+\infty, \end{array}\right. \end{align} where $n>2p$, $p\geq2$ and $p\in\mathbb{Z}$. We obtain for $γ\in(1,\frac{n}{n-2p})$ that any nonconstant solution satisfying certain growth at infinity is radial symmetric about some point in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and monotone decreasing in the radial direction. In the case $p=2$, the same results are established for more general exponent $γ\in(1,\frac{n+4}{n-4})$. For the following fractional equation with integral constraint \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{rl} &(-Δ)^sv=v^γ_+ ~~ \mbox{ in }{\mathbb{R}^n},~~~~\\ &\int_{\mathbb{R}^n}v_+^{\frac{n(γ-1)}{2s}}dx<+\infty,~~~~~ \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $s\in(0,1)$, $γ\in (1, \frac{n+2s}{n-2s})$ and $n\geq 2$, we also complete the classification of solutions with certain growth at infinity. In addition, observe that the assumptions of the maximum principle named decay at infinity in \cite{chen} can be weakened slightly. Based on this observation, we classify all positive solutions of two semi-linear fractional equations without integral constraint.

Target density effects on charge tansfer of laser-accelerated carbon ions in dense plasma

We report on charge state measurements of laser-accelerated carbon ions in the energy range of several MeV penetrating a dense partially ionized plasma. The plasma was generated by irradiation of a foam target with laser-induced hohlraum radiation in the soft X-ray regime. We used the tri-cellulose acetate (C$_{9}$H$_{16}$O$_{8}$) foam of 2 mg/cm$^{-3}$ density, and $1$-mm interaction length as target material. This kind of plasma is advantageous for high-precision measurements, due to good uniformity and long lifetime compared to the ion pulse length and the interaction duration. The plasma parameters were diagnosed to be T$_{e}$=17 eV and n$_{e}$=4 $\times$ 10$^{20}$ cm$^{-3}$. The average charge states passing through the plasma were observed to be higher than those predicted by the commonly-used semiempirical formula. Through solving the rate equations, we attribute the enhancement to the target density effects which will increase the ionization rates on one hand and reduce the electron capture rates on the other hand. In previsous measurement with partially ionized plasma from gas discharge and z-pinch to laser direct irradiation, no target density effects were ever demonstrated. For the first time, we were able to experimentally prove that target density effects start to play a significant role in plasma near the critical density of Nd-Glass laser radiation. The finding is important for heavy ion beam driven high energy density physics and fast ignitions.

Switching modulation of spin transport in ferromagnetic tetragonal silicene

We study the band structure and transport properties of ferromagnetic tetragonal silicene nanoribbons by using the non-equilibrium Green's function method. The band structure and spin-dependent conductance are discussed under the combined effect of the external electric field, potential energy, exchange field and the spin-orbit coupling. One can easily realize a phase transition from a semimetallic to a semiconducting state by changing the transverse width of the nanoribbon. Separation of spin-dependent conductances arises from the effect of exchange field and the spin-orbit coupling, while zero-conductance behaviors exhibit spin-dependent band gaps induced by the electric field. We propose a device configuration of four-terminal tetragonal silicene nanoribbon with two central channels. It is found that spin current can be controlled by utilizing two switches. The switch with a high potential barrier can block electrons flowing from the central scattering region into other terminals. Interestingly, applying only one switch can realize spin-dependent zero conductance and large spin polarization. Two switches can provide multiple operations for controlling spin-dependent transport properties. The two-channel ferromagnetic tetragonal silicene nanoribbon can realize an effective separation of spin current, which may be a potential candidate for spintronic devices.

Chern numbers of topological phonon band crossing determined with inelastic neutron scattering

Topological invariants in the band structure, such as Chern numbers, are crucial for the classification of topological matters and dictate the occurrence of exotic properties, yet their direct spectroscopic determination has been largely limited to electronic bands. Here, we use inelastic neutron scattering in conjunction with ab initio calculations to identify a variety of topological phonon band crossings in MnSi and CoSi single crystals. We find a distinct relation between the Chern numbers of a band-crossing node and the scattering intensity modulation in momentum space around the node. Given sufficiently high resolution, our method can be used to determine arbitrarily large Chern numbers of topological phonon band-crossing nodes.

Magnetic molecular orbitals in MnSi

A large body of knowledge about magnetism is attained from models of interacting spins, which usually reside on magnetic ions. Proposals beyond the ionic picture are uncommon and seldom verified by direct observations in conjunction with microscopic theory. Here, using inelastic neutron scattering to study the itinerant near-ferromagnet MnSi, we find that the system's fundamental magnetic units are interconnected, extended molecular orbitals consisting of three Mn atoms each, rather than individual Mn atoms. This result is further corroborated by magnetic Wannier orbitals obtained by ab initio calculations. It contrasts the ionic picture with a concrete example, and presents a novel regime of the spin waves where the wavelength is comparable to the spatial extent of the molecular orbitals. Our discovery brings important insights into not only the magnetism of MnSi, but also a broad range of magnetic quantum materials where structural symmetry, electron itinerancy and correlations act in concert.
