XISM: an eXploratory and Interactive Graph Tool to Visualize and Evaluate Semantic Map Models

Semantic map models visualize systematic relations among semantic functions through graph structures and are widely used in linguistic typology. However, existing construction methods either depend on labor-intensive expert reasoning or on fully automated systems lacking expert involvement, creating a tension between scalability and interpretability. We introduce \textbf{XISM}, an interactive system that combines data-driven inference with expert knowledge. XISM generates candidate maps via a top-down procedure and allows users to iteratively refine edges in a visual interface, with real-time metric feedback. Experiments in three semantic domains and expert interviews show that XISM improves linguistic decision transparency and controllability in semantic-map construction while maintaining computational efficiency. XISM provides a collaborative approach for scalable and interpretable semantic-map building. The system\footnote{https://app.xism2025.xin/} , source code\footnote{https://github.com/hank317/XISM} , and demonstration video\footnote{https://youtu.be/m5laLhGn6Ys} are publicly available.

Wavelet-Enhanced Desnowing: A Novel Single Image Restoration Approach for Traffic Surveillance under Adverse Weather Conditions

Image restoration under adverse weather conditions refers to the process of removing degradation caused by weather particles while improving visual quality. Most existing deweathering methods rely on increasing the network scale and data volume to achieve better performance which requires more expensive computing power. Also, many methods lack generalization for specific applications. In the traffic surveillance screener, the main challenges are snow removal and veil effect elimination. In this paper, we propose a wavelet-enhanced snow removal method that use a Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform feature enhancement module and a dynamic convolution acceleration module to address snow degradation in surveillance images. We also use a residual learning restoration module to remove veil effects caused by rain, snow, and fog. The proposed architecture extracts and analyzes information from snow-covered regions, significantly improving snow removal performance. And the residual learning restoration module removes veiling effects in images, enhancing clarity and detail. Experiments show that it performs better than some popular desnowing methods. Our approach also demonstrates effectiveness and accuracy when applied to real traffic surveillance images.

Gradient-tracking Based Differentially Private Distributed Optimization with Enhanced Optimization Accuracy

Privacy protection has become an increasingly pressing requirement in distributed optimization. However, equipping distributed optimization with differential privacy, the state-of-the-art privacy protection mechanism, will unavoidably compromise optimization accuracy. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to achieve rigorous $\epsilon$-differential privacy in gradient-tracking based distributed optimization with enhanced optimization accuracy. More specifically, to suppress the influence of differential-privacy noise, we propose a new robust gradient-tracking based distributed optimization algorithm that allows both stepsize and the variance of injected noise to vary with time. Then, we establish a new analyzing approach that can characterize the convergence of the gradient-tracking based algorithm under both constant and time-varying stespsizes. To our knowledge, this is the first analyzing framework that can treat gradient-tracking based distributed optimization under both constant and time-varying stepsizes in a unified manner. More importantly, the new analyzing approach gives a much less conservative analytical bound on the stepsize compared with existing proof techniques for gradient-tracking based distributed optimization. We also theoretically characterize the influence of differential-privacy design on the accuracy of distributed optimization, which reveals that inter-agent interaction has a significant impact on the final optimization accuracy. Numerical simulation results confirm the theoretical predictions.

A New Approach to Extract Fetal Electrocardiogram Using Affine Combination of Adaptive Filters

The detection of abnormal fetal heartbeats during pregnancy is important for monitoring the health conditions of the fetus. While adult ECG has made several advances in modern medicine, noninvasive fetal electrocardiography (FECG) remains a great challenge. In this paper, we introduce a new method based on affine combinations of adaptive filters to extract FECG signals. The affine combination of multiple filters is able to precisely fit the reference signal, and thus obtain more accurate FECGs. We proposed a method to combine the Least Mean Square (LMS) and Recursive Least Squares (RLS) filters. Our approach found that the Combined Recursive Least Squares (CRLS) filter achieves the best performance among all proposed combinations. In addition, we found that CRLS is more advantageous in extracting FECG from abdominal electrocardiograms (AECG) with a small signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Compared with the state-of-the-art MSF-ANC method, CRLS shows improved performance. The sensitivity, accuracy, and F1 scores improved by 3.58%, 2.39%, and 1.36%, respectively.
