SVOM/C-GFT: Instrumentation and Performances on the SVOM Alerts

The Chinese Ground Follow-up Telescope (C-GFT) is an optical facility upgraded to support the Space Variable Objects Monitor mission (\textit{SVOM}). Located at the Jilin Observation Station, it is capable of rapidly identifying and monitoring the optical counterparts of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). The 1.2-m telescope is equipped with two switchable focal-plane instruments: the prime-focus wide-field LATIOS camera and the Cassegrain-focus three-channel CATCH camera. In this paper, we present a system overview, including the observatory, the telescope, the instrumentation, the automated operational framework managed by the Operations Center, and the data processing pipelines. We also report the performance results obtained during over one year of \textit{SVOM}'s post-launch operations. The results demonstrate that the system meets its design specifications and delivers robust observational and operational performance.

Design of High-energy Proton-beam Experiment Station at CSNS

China's first proton test beam facility, named the High-energy Proton-beam Experiment Station (HPES), is currently under construction in campus of CSNS, as part of the CSNS-II project. Utilizing protons slowly extracted from the Rapid Cycling Synchrotron of CSNS, HPES will deliver 1.6 GeV proton beam with an adjustable flux ranging from 1E3 to 1E8 protons per second. The station is composed of two dedicated test terminals designed to support comprehensive beam tests, serving as an advanced platform for particle detector development, irradiation hardness studies of aerospace chips, and GeV-proton-induced nuclear data measurements. To characterize the beam, HPES incorporates dedicated flux and profile monitors. For user experiments, the facility is equipped with a high-precision proton telescope offering a positioning resolution of 10 $\mu$m, and a Time-of-Flight (TOF) spectrometer achieving an energy resolution of 1%. Furthermore, a compatible trigger logic unit have been designed to provide precise event tagging, which is essential for data alignment. This paper presents an overview of the detector systems within HPES, discusses their design considerations, and outlines the future prospects of the facility.

HELO-APR: Enhancing Low-Resource Program Repair through Cross-Lingual Knowledge Transfer

Large Language Models (LLMs) perform well on automatic program repair (APR) for high-resource programming languages (HRPLs), but their effectiveness drops sharply in low-resource programming languages (LRPLs), due to a lack of sufficient verified buggy-fixed pairs for APR training. To address this challenge, we propose HELO-APR (High-resource Enabled LOw-resource APR), a two-stage APR framework that enables cross-lingual transfer of repair knowledge from HRPLs to LRPLs. HELO-APR (1) constructs high-quality LRPL training data by synthesizing LRPL buggy-fixed pairs from HRPL counterparts, preserving defect type consistency while ensuring the synthesized code is idiomatic, and then (2) adopts a curriculum learning strategy that progressively performs HRPL repair learning, cross-lingual repair alignment, and LRPL repair adaptation, improving repair effectiveness in LRPLs. Using C++ as the source HRPL and Ruby and Rust as the target LRPLs, experiments on xCodeEval show that HELO-APR consistently outperforms strong baselines, increasing Pass@1 from 31.17% to 48.65% on DeepSeek-Coder-6.7B and from 1.67% to 11.97% on CodeLlama-7B, while improving syntactic validity by raising the average target compilation rate on CodeLlama from 49.77% to 91.98%. On Defects4Ruby, HELO-APR increases BLEU-4 from 61.20 to 66.79 and ROUGE-1 from 76.76 to 83.59 on CodeLlama-7B, indicating higher similarity to developer patches in real-world settings. Finally, we conduct ablation studies to assess the necessity of each core component. These results suggest that verified cross-lingual supervision provides a reusable approach for improving LLM-based repair in low-resource languages.

Development and Application of an eV Neutron Polarization for Parity Violation Studies at CSNS Back-n Beamline

The dynamic enhancement of symmetry-breaking effects in neutron-nucleus resonances provides a sensitive testing ground for Time-Reversal Invariance Violation (TRIV). Exploiting this mechanism, the Neutron Optics Parity and Time Reversal Experiment (NOPTREX) seeks to elucidate the origin of the universe's baryon asymmetry. Critical to this effort is the precise measurement of Parity Violation (PV) asymmetries, which is essential to calibrate the nuclear parameters required for future TRIV experiments. To facilitate these studies, we developed an eV polarized neutron at the Back-n white neutron beamline of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). Neutron polarization is generated by an in-situ Spin-Exchange Optical Pumping (SEOP) $^3$He filter. Spin manipulation is performed by an adiabatic spin flipper, while spin polarization is preserved over the flight path by a vacuum transport system equipped with a solenoidal guide field. Experiments successfully measured an asymmetry of approximately $7.8 \pm 2.4$ (stat.) $\pm 0.3$ (sys.) % at the 0.747 eV p-wave resonance of $^{139}$La. These results are in agreement with previous results on this resonance and validate the system's capability for PV measurements.

GRB 240825A: Early Reverse Shock and Its Physical Implications

Early multiwavelength observations offer crucial insights into the nature of the relativistic jets responsible for gamma-ray bursts and their interaction with the surrounding medium. We present data of GRB 240825A from 17 space- and ground-based telescopes/instruments, covering wavelengths from NIR/optical to X-ray and GeV, and spanning from the prompt emission to the afterglow phase triggered by Swift and Fermi. The early afterglow observations were carried out by SVOM/C-GFT, and spectroscopic observations of the afterglow by GTC, VLT, and TNG determined the redshift of the burst ($z = 0.659$) later.A comprehensive analysis of the prompt emission spectrum observed by Swift-BAT and Fermi-GBM/LAT reveals a rare and significant high-energy cutoff at ~76 MeV. Assuming this cutoff is due to $\gamma\gamma$ absorption allows us to place an upper limit on the initial Lorentz factor, $\Gamma_0 < 245$. The optical/NIR and GeV afterglow light curves be described by the standard external shock model, with early-time emission dominated by a reverse shock (RS) and a subsequent transition to forward shock (FS) emission. Our afterglow modelling yields a consistent estimate of the initial Lorentz factor ($\Gamma_{\rm 0} \sim 234$). Furthermore, the RS-to-FS magnetic field ratio ($\mathcal{R}_B \sim 302$) indicates that the reverse shock region is significantly more magnetized than the FS region. An isotropic-equivalent kinetic energy of $E_{\text{k,iso}} = 5.25 \times 10^{54}$ erg is derived, and the corresponding $\gamma$-ray radiation efficiency is estimated to be $\eta_{\gamma}$ = 3.1%. On the other hand, the standard afterglow model can not reproduce the X-ray light curve of GRB 240825A, calling for improved models to characterize all multiwavelength data.

Test of LGAD as Potential Next-Generation {\mu}SR Spectrometer Detectors

Muon Spin Rotation/Relaxation/Resonance ($\mu$SR) is a versatile and powerful non-destructive technology for investigating the magnetic properties of materials at the microscopic level. The $\mu$SR technique typically utilizes fully spin polarized beams of positive muons generated at particle accelerator facilities and measures the evolution of the muon spin polarization inside a sample to extract information about the local magnetic environment in materials. With the development of accelerator technologies, intensities of muon beams are being continuously improved, which will cause a pile-up problem to the $\mu$SR spectrometer. The first muon source in China, named MELODY, is currently under construction and will be a pulsed source of muons operated at a repetition frequency of only 1 Hz due to limitations of the accelerator system at CSNS. Consequently, there is a strong motivation to operate MELODY at significantly higher muon intensities. This necessitates an upgrade of the detector system inside the spectrometer, which should be smaller and faster to accommodate the increased intensity per pulse of muons. The Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD), characterized by a typical pulse width of 2 ns and a segmentation size in the centimeters range, has the potential to significantly improve the counting rates of $\mu$SR spectrometers that utilize a high intensity pulsed muon source. Thus, it is expected that the LGAD detector is a promising candidate to enhance the performance of $\mu$SR spectrometers at the new MELODY muon source. To validate this, tests on the LGAD were conducted at the ISIS pulsed muon source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. This paper will describe the setup of the candidate LGAD devices and the subsequent analysis of the experiment data.

Asymptotic behavior for the quenched survival probability of a supercritical branching random walk in random environment with a barrier

We introduce a random barrier to a supercritical branching random walk in an i.i.d. random environment $\{\mathcal{L}_n\}$ indexed by time $n,$ i.e., in each generation, only the individuals born below the barrier can survive and reproduce. At generation $n$ ($n\in\mathbb{N}$), the barrier is set as $\chi_n+\varepsilon n,$ where $\{\chi_n\}$ is a random walk determined by the random environment. Lv \& Hong (2024) showed that for almost every $\mathcal{L}:=\{\mathcal{L}_n\},$ the quenched survival probability (denoted by $\varrho_{\mathcal{L}}(\varepsilon)$) of the particles system will be 0 (resp., positive) when $\varepsilon\leq 0$ (resp., $\varepsilon>0$). In the present paper, we prove that $\sqrt{\varepsilon}\log\varrho_\mathcal{L}(\varepsilon)$ will converge in Probability/ almost surely/ in $L^p$ to an explicit negative constant (depending on the environment) as $\varepsilon\downarrow 0$ under some integrability conditions respectively. This result extends the scope of the result of Gantert et al. (2011) to the random environment case.

The extinction rate of a branching random walk with a barrier in a time-inhomogeneous random environment

Consider a supercritical branching random walk in a time-inhomogeneous random environment. We impose a selection (called barrier) on survival in the following way. The position of the barrier may depend on the generation and the environment. %to indexed by time $n,$ i.e.,$\{\L_n\}$with a random absorption barrier In each generation, only the individuals born below the barrier can survive and reproduce. When the barrier causes the extinction of the system, we give the extinction rate in the sense of $L^p~(p\geq 1)$. Moreover, we show the $L^p$ convergence of the small deviation probability for a random walk with random environment in time.

Radiation hardness study of BC408 plastic scintillator under 80 MeV proton beam irradiations

To investigate the 1.6 GeV high-energy proton beam detector utilized in the CSNS Phase-II upgrade project, a plastic scintillator detector presents a viable option due to its superior radiation hardness. This study investigates the effects of irradiation damage on a BC408 plastic scintillator induced by 80 MeV protons, including absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, and light yield tests of BC408 pre- and post-proton irradiation, with a focus on determining the radiation resistance threshold of BC408. The results indicate that the performance of BC408 remains unimpaired at absorbed doses up to 5.14*10^3 Gy/cm3, demonstrating its ability to absorb 1.63*10^13 p/cm3 1.6 GeV protons while maintaining stability. This suggests that BC408 could potentially be used as the 1.6 GeV high-energy proton beam detector in the CSNS Phase-II upgrade project.

Weak Quenched Invariance Principle for Random Walk with Random Environment in Time

Consider the invariance principle for a random walk with random environment (denoted by $\mu$) in time on $\bfR$ in a weak quenched sense. We show that a sequence of the random probability measures on $\bfR$ generated by a bounded Lipschitz functional $f$ and $\mu$ will converge in distribution to another random probability measures, which is related to $f$ and two independent Brownian motions. The upper bound of the convergence rate has been obtained. We also explain that in general, this convergence can not be strengthened to the almost surely sense.

On the barrier problem of branching random walk in time-inhomogeneous random environment

We consider a supercritical branching random walk in time-inhomogeneous random environment with a random absorption barrier, i.e.,in each generation, only the individuals born below the barrier can survive and reproduce. Assume that the random environment is i.i.d..The barrier is set as $\chi_n+an^{\alpha},$ where $a,\alpha$ are two constants and $\{\chi_n\}$ is a certain i.i.d. random walk determined by the random environment. We show that for almost surely given environment (i.e., a sequence of point processes which is a realization of the random environment), the time-inhomogeneous branching random walk under the given environment will become extinct (resp., survive with positive probability) if $\alpha<1/3$ or $\alpha=1/3, a 1/3, a>0$ or $\alpha=1/3, a>a_c$), where $a_c$ is a positive constant determined by the random environment. The rates of extinction when $\alpha<\frac{1}{3}, a\geq0$ and $\alpha=1/3, a\in(0,a_c)$ are also obtained. These extend the main results in A\"{\i}d\'{e}kon $\&$ Jaffuel (2011) and Jaffuel (2012),to the random environment case. The influence caused by the random environment have been specified.

A multilayer interstitial fluid flow along vascular adventitia

Objective: Interstitial fluid flow through vascular adventitia has been disclosed recently. However, its kinetic pattern was unclear. Methods and Results: We used histological and topographical identifications to observe ISF flow along venous vessels in rabbits. By MRI in alive subjects, the inherent ISF flow pathways in legs, abdomen and thorax were enhanced by paramagnetic contrast from ankle dermis. By fluorescence stereomicroscopy and layer-by-layer dissection after the rabbits were sacrificed, the perivascular and adventitial connective tissues (PACT) along the saphenous veins and inferior vena cava were found to be stained by sodium fluorescein from ankle dermis, which coincided with the findings by MRI. By confocal microscopy and histological analysis, the stained PACT pathways were verified to be the fibrous connective tissues and consisted of longitudinally assembled fibers. By usages of nanoparticles and surfactants, a PACT pathway was found to be accessible for a nanoparticle under 100nm and contain two parts: a tunica channel part and an absorptive part. In real-time observations, the calculated velocity of a continuous ISF flow along fibers of a PACT pathway was 3.6-15.6 mm/sec. Conclusion: These data further revealed more kinetic features of a continuous ISF flow along vascular vessel. A multiscale, multilayer, and multiform interstitial/interfacial fluid flow throughout perivascular and adventitial connective tissues was suggested as one of kinetic and dynamic mechanisms for ISF flow, which might be another principal fluid dynamic pattern besides convective/vascular and diffusive transport in biological system.

Branching random walk in random environment with random absorption wall

We consider the branching random walk in random environment with a random absorption wall. When we add this barrier, we discuss some topics related to the survival probability. We assume that the random environment is i.i.d., $S_i$ is a particular i.i.d. random walk depend on the random environment $\mathcal{L}$. Let the random barrier function (the random absorption wall) is $g_i(\mathcal{L}):=ai^\alpha-S_i,$ where $i$ present the generation. We show that there exists a critical value $a_c>0$ such that if $a>a_c,\alpha=\frac{1}{3}$, the survival probability is positive almost surly and if $a 0)/n^{1/3}$ will converges to a negative constant almost surely if $\alpha\in[0,\frac{1}{3})$.

Small deviation for Random walk with random environment in time

We give the random environment version of Mogul'ski\v{\i} estimation in quenched sense.Assume that $\{\mu\}_{n\in\bfN}$ (called environment) is a sequence of i.i.d. random probability measures on $\bfR.$~ Let $\{X_n\}_{n\in\bfN}$ be a sequence of independent random variables, where $X_n$ has law $\mu_n.$ We set $S_n=\sum_{i=1}^{n}X_i.$ Under some integrability conditions, we show that on the log scale, for any power function $f$. the decay rate of $$\bfP_\mu(\forall_{0\leq i\leq n} S_{f(n)+i}\in[g(i/n)n^{\alpha},h(i/n)n^{\alpha}]|S_{f(n)}=x)$$ is $e^{-cn^{1-2\alpha}}$ almost surely as $n\rightarrow+\infty$, where $c>0,\alpha\in(0,\frac{1}{2}),$ $g,h\in\mathcal{C}[0,1]$ (the set of all continuous functions defined on $[0,1]),$ $g(s)<h(s), \forall s\in[0,1],$ and $x\in(g(0),h(0)).$ The main result of this paper is also a basic tool in the researching of Branching random walk in random environment with selection.

Brownian motion between two random trajectories

Consider the first exit time of one-dimensional Brownian motion $\{B_s\}_{s\geq 0}$ from a random passageway. We discuss a Brownian motion with two time-dependent random boundaries in quenched sense. Let $\{W_s\}_{s\geq 0}$ be an other one-dimensional Brownian motion independent of $\{B_s\}_{s\geq 0}$ and let $\bfP(\cdot|W)$ represent the conditional probability depending on the realization of $\{W_s\}_{s\geq 0}$. We show that $$-t^{-1}\ln\bfP^x(\forall_{s\in[0,t]}a+\beta W_s\leq B_s\leq b+\beta W_s|W)$$ converges to a finite positive constant $\gamma(\beta)(b-a)^{-2}$ almost surely and in $L^p~ (p\geq 1)$ if $a<B_0=x<b$ and $W_0=0.$ When $\beta=1, a+b=2x,$ it is equivalent to the random small ball probability problem in the sense of equiditribution, which has been investigated in \cite{DL2005}. We also find some properties of the function $\gamma(\beta)$. An important moment estimation has also been obtained, which can be applied to discuss the small deviation of random walk with random environment in time (see [12]).
