Ascend-SpMM: Accelerating Sparse Matrix-Dense Matrix Multiplication on Ascend NPUs

Sparse Matrix-Dense Matrix Multiplication (SpMM) is a fundamental kernel in graph neural networks and scientific computing, yet its optimization on Ascend NPUs remains largely unexplored. The physically decoupled Cube/Vector architecture and single-threaded scalar instruction dispatch of modern NPUs introduce unique challenges. We present Ascend-SpMM, a novel and systematic framework tailored to the physically decoupled architecture of Ascend NPUs.We introduce a memory-centric cost model that quantifies hardware affinity and guides a conflict-bounded, densityaware task-mapping strategy. The strategy maps dense regions to the high-throughput Cube path and sparse residuals to the flexible Vector path, with a theoretical bound on cross-processor conflicts. To execute these workloads with high efficiency, we further develop highly customized sub-kernels. These kernels leverage hierarchy-aware pipelining and round-robin ring buffer-based implicit synchronization to effectively mask memory latency and reduce instruction pipeline stalls. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Ascend-SpMM achieves a geometric-mean speedup of 12.70-20.55X over the strongest evaluated NPU baseline for each matrix, accelerates end-to-end GNN training by up to 6.8X, and delivers performance competitive with state-of-the-art GPU implementations. The source code of Ascend-SpMM is publicly available at https://github.com/IDMG-Lab/Ascend-SpMM.

CompileMask: Bridging the Gap Between Expressiveness and Efficiency in Attention Masking

Modern attention workloads require diverse masking patterns whose boundaries depend on runtime metadata, yet efficient attention kernels natively support only a small set of patterns. Existing methods for supporting custom masks in these kernels face an expressiveness-efficiency trade-off. Predicate-based methods are expressive but incur substantial preprocessing and execution overhead, whereas interval-based methods execute efficiently but restrict expressiveness through a predefined interval count. We present CompileMask, which addresses this trade-off by connecting expressive mask specifications with efficient attention execution. We design a compiler that analyzes visibility rules during the offline stage and generates a mask-specific preprocess kernel. We further propose MaskSpec, a region-based DSL that lets users express these rules. During the online stage, the generated kernel reads batch metadata and produces a compact Execution Descriptor that lets the attention kernel efficiently check visibility by comparing element indices against precomputed endpoints. Experiments show that CompileMask achieves up to $3.8\times$ speedup over state-of-the-art methods.

AREX: Towards a Recursively Self-Improving Agent for Deep Research

Deep research requires agents to find answers that jointly satisfy multiple constraints. Discovering such answers is costly, whereas verifying a candidate can often be decomposed into tractable constraint-wise checks. This discovery--verification asymmetry suggests that a research agent should do more than simply search longer: it should recursively improve its current answer by verifying intermediate results and using the partially verified state to guide subsequent refinement. We introduce AREX, a family of Recursively Self-Improving (RSI) deep research agents. AREX alternates between an inner research loop that gathers evidence and constructs a provisional answer, and an outer self-improvement loop that audits the answer constraint-wise, identifies unresolved claims, and launches targeted follow-up research. To sustain RSI over long horizons, AREX learns an autonomous context-update tool that compresses growing interaction history into a compact improvement state preserving verified evidence and unresolved constraints, without relying on an external model. We train AREX on verified synthetic tasks and high-quality trajectories through agentic mid-training and long-horizon reinforcement learning. To mitigate sparse final rewards during long horizon learning, we emphasize key steps where decisive evidence is acquired or erroneous research directions are corrected. We instantiate a dense 4B model and a 122B-A10B Mixture-of-Experts model. Across BrowseComp, WideSearch, DeepSearchQA, Humanity's Last Exam (HLE), and other reasoning and tool-use benchmarks, AREX substantially outperforms comparable-scale baselines and remains competitive with models using substantially more activated parameters.

Profiling and Evolution of Intellectual Property

In recent years, with the rapid growth of Internet data, the number and types of scientific and technological resources are also rapidly expanding. However, the increase in the number and category of information data will also increase the cost of information acquisition. For technology-based enterprises or users, in addition to general papers, patents, and other resources, policies related to technology or the development of their industries should also belong to a type of scientific and technological resource. Extracting valuable science and technology policy resources from a huge amount of mixed-content data and providing accurate and fast retrieval will help break down information barriers and reduce information-acquisition costs, which has profound social significance and utility. This article focuses on the difficulties and problems in the field of science and technology policy and introduces related technologies and developments.

What Does Your Short-Answer VQA Score Actually Measure? Evaluator-Dependent Instability in Multimodal Short-Answer Benchmarks

Short-answer VQA benchmarks conflate two distinct quantities: whether a model's answer is semantically correct, and whether that answer matches the surface form expected by the automatic evaluator. We study this conflation across six vision--language models and six benchmarks, using a human-validated semantic judge (97.6% precision) to audit over 37k official errors. A second text-only judge reproduces the same benchmark-level false-negative pattern, showing that the effect is not an artifact of a single audit model. On text-rich benchmarks, up to half of these errors are semantically acceptable answers penalized purely for surface-form mismatch. This instability is structured by answer type: extractive and multi-span answers are far more evaluator-sensitive than scalar answers. Benign prompt and context rewrites further destabilize official outcomes, flipping item-level correctness at substantial rates without changing the underlying task. A deterministic CPU-only contract repair confirms that the undercount is partially recoverable. These findings imply that official short-answer VQA scores should be accompanied by semantic audits and answer-type diagnostics to remain interpretable.

Entity Alignment Method of Science and Technology Patent based on Graph Convolution Network and Information Fusion

The entity alignment of science and technology patents aims to link the equivalent entities in the knowledge graph of different science and technology patent data sources. Most entity alignment methods only use graph neural network to obtain the embedding of graph structure or use attribute text description to obtain semantic representation, ignoring the process of multi-information fusion in science and technology patents. In order to make use of the graphic structure and auxiliary information such as the name, description and attribute of the patent entity, this paper proposes an entity alignment method based on the graph convolution network for science and technology patent information fusion. Through the graph convolution network and BERT model, the structure information and entity attribute information of the science and technology patent knowledge graph are embedded and represented to achieve multi-information fusion, thus improving the performance of entity alignment. Experiments on three benchmark data sets show that the proposed method has better Hits@$K$ evaluation indicators than existing methods.

Relation Extraction Model Based on Semantic Enhancement Mechanism

Relational extraction is one of the basic tasks related to information extraction in the field of natural language processing, and is an important link and core task in the fields of information extraction, natural language understanding, and information retrieval. None of the existing relation extraction methods can effectively solve the problem of triple overlap. The CasAug model proposed in this paper based on the CasRel framework combined with the semantic enhancement mechanism can solve this problem to a certain extent. The CasAug model enhances the semantics of the identified possible subjects by adding a semantic enhancement mechanism. First, based on the semantic coding of possible subjects, pre-classify the possible subjects, and then combine the subject lexicon to calculate the semantic similarity to obtain the similar vocabulary of possible subjects. According to the similar vocabulary obtained, each word in different relations is calculated through the attention mechanism. For the contribution of the possible subject, finally combine the relationship pre-classification results to weight the enhanced semantics of each relationship to find the enhanced semantics of the possible subject, and send the enhanced semantics combined with the possible subject to the object and relationship extraction module. Complete the final relation triplet extraction. The experimental results show that, compared with the baseline model, the CasAug model proposed in this paper has improved the effect of relation extraction, and CasAug's ability to deal with overlapping problems and extract multiple relations is also better than the baseline model, indicating that the semantic enhancement mechanism proposed in this paper can further reduce the judgment of redundant relations and alleviate the problem of triple overlap.

Beyond Metadata: CAPRA for Hidden Subgroup Analysis under Missing Metadata in Medical Imaging

Medical imaging models are often deployed without the demographic, acquisition, and quality metadata needed for subgroup auditing. Once those metadata disappear, clinically critical failure modes can be masked by strong aggregate performance, and many robust-learning methods lose the group structure they rely on. We present CAPRA, a calibrated proxy-axis framework for hidden subgroup analysis under missing metadata. CAPRA predicts image-derived semantic axes, calibrates axis posteriors on a small metadata-labeled split via patient-level cross-fitting, and organizes those posteriors into a calibrated subgroup interface that supports both deployment-time failure analysis and downstream robust learning without requiring subgroup labels at deployment. Across fundus, dermoscopy, and chest radiography, CAPRA reveals disparity patterns missed by metadata-only slicing, remains informative under dataset shift, and produces subgroup partitions that align more closely with explicit failure axes than image-only or latent-slice baselines. The same interface can also be reused by downstream robust learners, although those gains are domain-dependent. Overall, CAPRA turns hidden subgroup analysis under missing metadata into a calibrated, interpretable, and reusable subgroup interface for deployment-time analysis and robust transfer.

Retrieval of Scientific and Technological Resources for Experts and Scholars

Institutions of higher learning, research institutes and other scientific research units have abundant scientific and technological resources of experts and scholars, and these talents with great scientific and technological innovation ability are an important force to promote industrial upgrading. The scientific and technological resources of experts and scholars are mainly composed of basic attributes and scientific research achievements. The basic attributes include information such as research interests, institutions, and educational work experience. However, due to information asymmetry and other reasons, the scientific and technological resources of experts and scholars cannot be connected with the society in a timely manner, and social needs cannot be accurately matched with experts and scholars. Therefore, it is very necessary to build an expert and scholar information database and provide relevant expert and scholar retrieval services. This paper sorts out the related research work in this field from four aspects: text relation extraction, text knowledge representation learning, text vector retrieval and visualization system.

Reinforcement Federated Learning Method Based on Adaptive OPTICS Clustering

Federated learning is a distributed machine learning technology, which realizes the balance between data privacy protection and data sharing computing. To protect data privacy, feder-ated learning learns shared models by locally executing distributed training on participating devices and aggregating local models into global models. There is a problem in federated learning, that is, the negative impact caused by the non-independent and identical distribu-tion of data across different user terminals. In order to alleviate this problem, this paper pro-poses a strengthened federation aggregation method based on adaptive OPTICS clustering. Specifically, this method perceives the clustering environment as a Markov decision process, and models the adjustment process of parameter search direction, so as to find the best clus-tering parameters to achieve the best federated aggregation method. The core contribution of this paper is to propose an adaptive OPTICS clustering algorithm for federated learning. The algorithm combines OPTICS clustering and adaptive learning technology, and can effective-ly deal with the problem of non-independent and identically distributed data across different user terminals. By perceiving the clustering environment as a Markov decision process, the goal is to find the best parameters of the OPTICS cluster without artificial assistance, so as to obtain the best federated aggregation method and achieve better performance. The reliability and practicability of this method have been verified on the experimental data, and its effec-tiveness and superiority have been proved.

Trust-free Personalized Decentralized Learning

Personalized collaborative learning in federated settings faces a critical trade-off between customization and participant trust. Existing approaches typically rely on centralized coordinators or trusted peer groups, limiting their applicability in open, trust-averse environments. While recent decentralized methods explore anonymous knowledge sharing, they often lack global scalability and robust mechanisms against malicious peers. To bridge this gap, we propose TPFed, a \textit{Trust-free Personalized Decentralized Federated Learning} framework. TPFed replaces central aggregators with a blockchain-based bulletin board, enabling participants to dynamically select global communication partners based on Locality-Sensitive Hashing (LSH) and peer ranking. Crucially, we introduce an ``all-in-one'' knowledge distillation protocol that simultaneously handles knowledge transfer, model quality evaluation, and similarity verification via a public reference dataset. This design ensures secure, globally personalized collaboration without exposing local models or data. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TPFed significantly outperforms traditional federated baselines in both learning accuracy and system robustness against adversarial attacks.

Cache-Aware I/O Cost Modeling for Disk-Based Learned Indexes

Learned indexes have shown attractive space-time trade-offs in main-memory settings, yet a principled I/O cost model for their disk-resident deployments is still missing, which is a prerequisite for index tuning and query optimization. The practically employed page buffer makes the problem even harder: under typical cache policies, many of the logical page references issued by the index are served by the buffer rather than reaching disk, so the effective physical I/O depends jointly on the workload, the cache policy, and the index configuration. In this paper, we propose CAM, the \textit{first} cache-aware I/O cost model for learned indexes that takes practical cache eviction policies into consideration. CAM is not tied to a particular learned index design: it estimates page access distributions without full trace replay for mainstream learned index designs, and then combines them with I/O cost models to estimate effective physical I/Os. This formulation enables principled knob tuning by explicitly modeling the trade-off between index footprint and buffer capacity. We instantiate CAM for disk-based PGM-index and RMI, and further apply the same modeling principle to learned-index-based joins through a hybrid strategy that adaptively chooses point or range probes based on local key density. Extensive experiments on real benchmarks show that CAM provides \textit{accurate and efficient} I/O estimation across diverse workloads: CAM-guided tuning improves PGM throughput by \textbf{1.17$\times$} over multicriteria PGM tuning and improves RMI throughput by \textbf{1.66$\times$} over CDFShop with I/O-related considerations. For learned-index-based joins, our hybrid strategy improves end-to-end performance by up to \textbf{8.8$\times$} over disk-based index nested-loop join.

CoeusBI: A Comprehensive Interactive Business Intelligence System Powered by LLMs at Baidu [Extended Version]

The advent of Large Language Models has catalyzed the emergence of interactive Business Intelligence (BI) systems. Although commercial BI products increasingly adopt semantic layers paired with natural language interfaces, they predominantly rely on manual configurations to define metrics and dimensions. Real-world deployments face critical challenges: (a) frequent JOIN operations degrade the accuracy of SQL generation; (b) wide schemas exacerbate the challenge of schema linking; and (c) the generation of dialect-specific queries and the accurate support for multi-round dialogues incur high computational costs and yield limited accuracy. We introduce CoeusBI, an industrial-scale interactive BI system that addresses these barriers through a novel Dual-Agent Architecture paired with a Hierarchical Schema Linking module: (1) an offline View Generation Agent that utilizes error-feedback to autonomously convert complex JOIN queries into simple single-view queries, which eliminates the need for manual semantic modeling; (2) a Hierarchical Schema Linking module that leverages vector retrieval over views to handle exceptionally wide schemas efficiently; and (3) a dynamic Routing Agent that evaluates dialogue contexts to route queries, dynamically invoking either the synthesis of new intermediate representations or targeted modifications of existing ones, before compiling the unified representation via a deterministic SQL compiler that is agnostic to dialects. Extensive experiments on both public datasets and production datasets demonstrate that CoeusBI achieves significant improvements in query accuracy, token efficiency, and user satisfaction relative to existing methods. CoeusBI is deployed as a standalone service on the data platform of Baidu and is widely used across multiple business lines supporting thousands of users daily, thereby evidencing strong practicality and scalability.

ParamSpMM: Adaptive and Efficient Sparse Matrix-Matrix Multiplication on GPUs for GNNs

Fueled by the ability to mine real-world graph data, GNN applications have experienced phenomenal growth. Sparse Matrix-Matrix Multiplication (SpMM) is a critical operator in GNNs. However, existing SpMM designs for GNNs struggle to adapt to diverse input characteristics. In this paper, we first conduct a comprehensive analysis of existing SpMM optimizations, revealing their limitations through statistical and empirical evidence. Based on this analysis, we introduce ParamSpMM, a parametric approach for highly adaptive and efficient SpMM computation in GNNs. It incorporates a new data structure, the Parameterized Compressed Sparse Row (PCSR), to flexibly integrate existing optimization techniques. ParamSpMM enables the configuration of these optimization techniques according to various input characteristics. Furthermore, we complement ParamSpMM with an ML-based SpMM-decider that predicts optimal configurations based on carefully crafted input features. Our evaluations demonstrate that ParamSpMM outperforms Nvidia cuSPARSE with an average speedup of 1.92x, significantly enhancing GNN training efficiency.

DeepXiv-SDK: An Agentic Data Interface for Scientific Literature

LLM-agents are increasingly used to accelerate the progress of scientific research. Yet a persistent bottleneck is data access: agents not only lack readily available tools for retrieval, but also have to work with unstrcutured, human-centric data on the Internet, such as HTML web-pages and PDF files, leading to excessive token consumption, limit working efficiency, and brittle evidence look-up. This gap motivates the development of \textit{an agentic data interface}, which is designed to enable agents to access and utilize scientific literature in a more effective, efficient, and cost-aware manner. In this paper, we introduce DeepXiv-SDK, which offers a three-layer agentic data interface for scientific literature. 1) Data Layer, which transforms unstructured, human-centric data into normalized and structured representations in JSON format, improving data usability and enabling progressive accessibility of the data. 2) Service Layer, which presents readily available tools for data access and ad-hoc retrieval. It also enables a rich form of agent usage, including CLI, MCP, and Python SDK. 3) Application Layer, which creates a built-in agent, packaging basic tools from the service layer to support complex data access demands. DeepXiv-SDK currently supports the complete ArXiv corpus, and is synchronized daily to incorporate new releases. It is designed to extend to all common open-access corpora, such as PubMed Central, bioRxiv, medRxiv, and chemRxiv. We release RESTful APIs, an open-source Python SDK, and a web demo showcasing deep search and deep research workflows. DeepXiv-SDK is free to use with registration.

ELMM: Efficient Lightweight Multimodal Large Language Models for Multimodal Knowledge Graph Completion

Multimodal Knowledge Graphs (MKGs) extend traditional knowledge graphs by incorporating visual and textual modalities, enabling richer and more expressive entity representations. However, existing MKGs often suffer from incompleteness, which hinder their effectiveness in downstream tasks. Therefore, multimodal knowledge graph completion (MKGC) task is receiving increasing attention. While large language models (LLMs) have shown promise for knowledge graph completion (KGC), their application to the multimodal setting remains underexplored. Moreover, applying Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) to the task of MKGC introduces significant challenges: (1) the large number of image tokens per entity leads to semantic noise and modality conflicts, and (2) the high computational cost of processing large token inputs. To address these issues, we propose Efficient Lightweight Multimodal Large Language Models (ELMM) for MKGC. ELMM proposes a Multi-view Visual Token Compressor (MVTC) based on multi-head attention mechanism, which adaptively compresses image tokens from both textual and visual views, thereby effectively reducing redundancy while retaining necessary information and avoiding modality conflicts. Additionally, we design an attention pruning strategy to remove redundant attention layers from MLLMs, thereby significantly reducing the inference cost. We further introduce a linear projection to compensate for the performance degradation caused by pruning. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate that ELMM achieves state-of-the-art performance.

Llama2Vec: Unsupervised Adaptation of Large Language Models for Dense Retrieval

Dense retrieval calls for discriminative embeddings to represent the semantic relationship between query and document. It may benefit from the using of large language models (LLMs), given LLMs' strong capability on semantic understanding. However, the LLMs are learned by auto-regression, whose working mechanism is completely different from representing whole text as one discriminative embedding. Thus, it is imperative to study how to adapt LLMs properly so that they can be effectively initialized as the backbone encoder for dense retrieval. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, called Llama2Vec, which performs unsupervised adaptation of LLM for its dense retrieval application. Llama2Vec consists of two pretext tasks: EBAE (Embedding-Based Auto-Encoding) and EBAR (Embedding-Based Auto-Regression), where the LLM is prompted to reconstruct the input sentence and predict the next sentence based on its text embeddings. Llama2Vec is simple, lightweight, but highly effective. It is used to adapt LLaMA-2-7B on the Wikipedia corpus. With a moderate steps of adaptation, it substantially improves the model's fine-tuned performances on a variety of dense retrieval benchmarks. Notably, it results in the new state-of-the-art performances on popular benchmarks, such as passage and document retrieval on MSMARCO, and zero-shot retrieval on BEIR. The model and source code will be made publicly available to facilitate the future research. Our model is available at https://github.com/FlagOpen/FlagEmbedding.
