Phase-field modeling of elastically driven abnormal grain growth

Grain-refined metals typically exhibit high strength, yet their engineering applications are often constrained by grain coarsening under thermo-mechanical loading. Recent experiments have revealed abnormal grain growth (AGG) in ultrafine-grained Ni thin films subjected to cyclic loading at room temperature. Unlike conventional AGG, which generally requires significant plastic deformation or high temperatures, this phenomenon occurs within the regime of macroscopic elastic deformation. This AGG is characterized by the preferential growth of grains with an in-plane <100> orientation aligned with the loading direction. Here, we investigate the underlying physical mechanisms by combining phase-field simulations with micromechanical analysis. The results indicate that elastic energy reduction provides a thermodynamically plausible driving force for this orientation-selective grain growth. Phase-field simulations reveal the evolution kinetics of AGG and confirm that local grain geometry and stress states play critical roles in determining the grain growth pathway. By applying this framework to systems with varying elastic anisotropy, we establish a general approach for investigating elastically driven AGG in polycrystalline materials.

Orbital-selective band evolution and out-of-plane correlation in the FeGe-family kagome antiferromagnet ScFe$_6$Ge$_6$

In strongly correlated materials such as high-temperature superconductors, the relation between charge density wave (CDW) order and magnetism remains an important unresolved problem. FeGe is the first kagome metal known to exhibit CDW order deep within an antiferromagnetic state, accompanied by an unconventional evolution of lattice symmetry. To elucidate the general conditions governing such spin-correlated CDW order, we investigate ScFe$_6$Ge$_6$, which lacks CDW order and therefore exhibits reduced involvement of charge degrees of freedom while retaining other properties of FeGe. Instead of a CDW order, ScFe$_6$Ge$_6$ undergoes a magnetic transition at $T^*$ = 195 K. Across this transition, angle-resolved photoemission and Raman spectroscopy reveal orbital-selective behavior confined to a single kagome Dirac band, together with electron-phonon and magnetoelastic coupling to an out-of-plane phonon mode. These results suggest that orbital-selective physics and out-of-plane correlations play enhanced roles in realizing spin-correlated CDW order in magnetic kagome metals.

Geometrically Constrained Decentralized Independent Vector Analysis for Distributed Microphone Arrays

This paper proposes a geometrically constrained decentralized independent vector analysis (GC-Dec-IVA) method for distributed microphone arrays. Recently proposed Dec-IVA method enables source separation by exchanging only power-related statistics to exploit cross-array information. However, this initial attempt often provides negligible improvement over applying IVA locally at each array, mainly due to the potential permutation inconsistency among arrays and the strong cross-array dependency implied by its source model. To address these limitations, we incorporate direction-of-arrival (DOA) information to derive GC-Dec-IVA, which mitigates permutation mismatch across arrays and enhances source alignment. Furthermore, a new source model is introduced to weaken cross-array dependency, improving robustness against permutation inconsistency in noisy environments. Experiments show the proposed method improves both the separation performance and cross-array permutation consistency.

NLSTEM: Non-local denoising for enhanced 4D-STEM pattern indexing

4D-STEM-based orientation and phase mapping has enabled rapid microstructure quantification that can be directly combined with standard TEM- and STEM-based imaging modes. Typically, orientation mapping is coupled with beam precession (i.e. precession electron diffraction) to achieve high indexing rates, adding to the cost and often decreasing the spatial resolution of the approach. This paper introduces a new post processing approach modeled after the non-local pattern averaging and reindexing algorithm developed for the electron backscatter diffraction community, wherein post-collection, patterns are averaged using a distance similarity parameter. Results from Ni and Au thin films show that indexing rates can be significantly improved using this post-processing technique due to improved signal-to-noise ratios in the diffraction patterns. Interestingly, the highest indexing rates are achieved in samples heavily damaged via ion irradiation, suggesting that averaging over curved lattices further improves indexing rates.

Neural Network-Based Time-Frequency-Bin-Wise Linear Combination of Beamformers for Underdetermined Target Source Extraction

Extracting a target source from underdetermined mixtures is challenging for beamforming approaches. Recently proposed time-frequency-bin-wise switching (TFS) and linear combination (TFLC) strategies mitigate this by combining multiple beamformers in each time-frequency (TF) bin and choosing combination weights that minimize the output power. However, making this decision independently for each TF bin can weaken temporal-spectral coherence, causing discontinuities and consequently degrading extraction performance. In this paper, we propose a novel neural network-based time-frequency-bin-wise linear combination (NN-TFLC) framework that constructs minimum power distortionless response (MPDR) beamformers without explicit noise covariance estimation. The network encodes the mixture and beamformer outputs, and predicts temporally and spectrally coherent linear combination weights via a cross-attention mechanism. On dual-microphone mixtures with multiple interferers, NN-TFLC-MPDR consistently outperforms TFS/TFLC-MPDR and achieves competitive performance with TFS/TFLC built on the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformers that require noise priors.

Dual Diffusion Models for Multi-modal Guided 3D Avatar Generation

Generating high-fidelity 3D avatars from text or image prompts is highly sought after in virtual reality and human-computer interaction. However, existing text-driven methods often rely on iterative Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) or CLIP optimization, which struggle with fine-grained semantic control and suffer from excessively slow inference. Meanwhile, image-driven approaches are severely bottlenecked by the scarcity and high acquisition cost of high-quality 3D facial scans, limiting model generalization. To address these challenges, we first construct a novel, large-scale dataset comprising over 100,000 pairs across four modalities: fine-grained textual descriptions, in-the-wild face images, high-quality light-normalized texture UV maps, and 3D geometric shapes. Leveraging this comprehensive dataset, we propose PromptAvatar, a framework featuring dual diffusion models. Specifically, it integrates a Texture Diffusion Model (TDM) that supports flexible multi-condition guidance from text and/or image prompts, alongside a Geometry Diffusion Model (GDM) guided by text prompts. By learning the direct mapping from multi-modal prompts to 3D representations, PromptAvatar eliminates the need for time-consuming iterative optimization, successfully generating high-fidelity, shading-free 3D avatars in under 10 seconds. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches in generation quality, fine-grained detail alignment, and computational efficiency.

Robust Online Overdetermined Independent Vector Analysis Based on Bilinear Decomposition

Online blind source separation is essential for both speech communication and human-machine interaction. Among existing approaches, overdetermined independent vector analysis (OverIVA) delivers strong performance by exploiting the statistical independence of source signals and the orthogonality between source and noise subspaces. However, when applied to large microphone arrays, the number of parameters grows rapidly, which can degrade online estimation accuracy. To overcome this challenge, we propose decomposing each long separation filter into a bilinear form of two shorter filters, thereby reducing the number of parameters. Because the two filters are closely coupled, we design an alternating iterative projection algorithm to update them in turn. Simulation results show that, with far fewer parameters, the proposed method achieves improved performance and robustness.

PartDiffuser: Part-wise 3D Mesh Generation via Discrete Diffusion

Existing autoregressive (AR) methods for generating artist-designed meshes struggle to balance global structural consistency with high-fidelity local details, and are susceptible to error accumulation. To address this, we propose PartDiffuser, a novel semi-autoregressive diffusion framework for point-cloud-to-mesh generation. The method first performs semantic segmentation on the mesh and then operates in a "part-wise" manner: it employs autoregression between parts to ensure global topology, while utilizing a parallel discrete diffusion process within each semantic part to precisely reconstruct high-frequency geometric features. PartDiffuser is based on the DiT architecture and introduces a part-aware cross-attention mechanism, using point clouds as hierarchical geometric conditioning to dynamically control the generation process, thereby effectively decoupling the global and local generation tasks. Experiments demonstrate that this method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) models in generating 3D meshes with rich detail, exhibiting exceptional detail representation suitable for real-world applications.

DynaQuant: Dynamic Mixed-Precision Quantization for Learned Image Compression

Prevailing quantization techniques in Learned Image Compression (LIC) typically employ a static, uniform bit-width across all layers, failing to adapt to the highly diverse data distributions and sensitivity characteristics inherent in LIC models. This leads to a suboptimal trade-off between performance and efficiency. In this paper, we introduce DynaQuant, a novel framework for dynamic mixed-precision quantization that operates on two complementary levels. First, we propose content-aware quantization, where learnable scaling and offset parameters dynamically adapt to the statistical variations of latent features. This fine-grained adaptation is trained end-to-end using a novel Distance-aware Gradient Modulator (DGM), which provides a more informative learning signal than the standard Straight-Through Estimator. Second, we introduce a data-driven, dynamic bit-width selector that learns to assign an optimal bit precision to each layer, dynamically reconfiguring the network's precision profile based on the input data. Our fully dynamic approach offers substantial flexibility in balancing rate-distortion (R-D) performance and computational cost. Experiments demonstrate that DynaQuant achieves rd performance comparable to full-precision models while significantly reducing computational and storage requirements, thereby enabling the practical deployment of advanced LIC on diverse hardware platforms.

Parameter Interpolation Adversarial Training for Robust Image Classification

Though deep neural networks exhibit superior performance on various tasks, they are still plagued by adversarial examples. Adversarial training has been demonstrated to be the most effective method to defend against adversarial attacks. However, existing adversarial training methods show that the model robustness has apparent oscillations and overfitting issues in the training process, degrading the defense efficacy. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework called Parameter Interpolation Adversarial Training (PIAT). PIAT tunes the model parameters between each epoch by interpolating the parameters of the previous and current epochs. It makes the decision boundary of model change more moderate and alleviates the overfitting issue, helping the model converge better and achieving higher model robustness. In addition, we suggest using the Normalized Mean Square Error (NMSE) to further improve the robustness by aligning the relative magnitude of logits between clean and adversarial examples rather than the absolute magnitude. Extensive experiments conducted on several benchmark datasets demonstrate that our framework could prominently improve the robustness of both Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformers (ViTs).

Accelerated Convolutive Transfer Function-Based Multichannel NMF Using Iterative Source Steering

Among numerous blind source separation (BSS) methods, convolutive transfer function-based multichannel non-negative matrix factorization (CTF-MNMF) has demonstrated strong performance in highly reverberant environments by modeling multi-frame correlations of delayed source signals. However, its practical deployment is hindered by the high computational cost associated with the iterative projection (IP) update rule, which requires matrix inversion for each source. To address this issue, we propose an efficient variant of CTF-MNMF that integrates iterative source steering (ISS), a matrix inversion-free update rule for separation filters. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves comparable or superior separation performance to the original CTF-MNMF, while significantly reducing the computational complexity.

Surface reconstruction and orthogonal decoupling in SrAl4 and EuAl4

Surface-induced symmetry breaking in quantum materials can stabilize exotic electronic phases distinct from those in the bulk, yet its momentum-space manifestations remain elusive due to domain-averaging effects. Here, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we present a microscopic investigation of the electronic structures of SrAl4 and EuAl4, layered tetragonal intermetallic compounds that exhibit well-characterized incommensurate charge-density-wave (CDW) transitions. Below the CDW transition temperatures, we uncover linearly dispersing electronic states and pronounced unidirectional replica bands orthogonal to the bulk CDW wave vector, evidencing the emergence of an in-plane C4 symmetry-breaking electronic order that is not dictated by the bulk incommensurate CDW. STM measurements further reveal a 1 times 2 surface reconstruction with quasi-one-dimensional modulations and half-unit-cell steps, traced to ordered 50 percent Sr/Eu vacancies, which vanish irreversibly upon thermal cycling, indicating decoupled surface and bulk orders. These findings establish SrAl4 and EuAl4 as model platforms for exploring surface-confined nematicity and emergent low-dimensional phases in quantum materials.

Development of a simulation and analysis framework for N{\nu}DEx experiment

N$\nu$DEx aims to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay in $^{82}$Se using a high pressure $^{82}$SeF$_6$ gas time projection chamber (TPC). This paper presents a simulation and analysis framework developed specifically for the N$\nu$DEx experiment. Using density functional theory and two-temperature theory, the reduced mobilities of SeF$_5^-$ and SeF$_6^-$ ions in SeF$_6$ were calculated, yielding values of 0.444 and 0.430 $\mathrm{cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}}$ respectively, with an estimated uncertainty within 3\%. The TPC geometry, featuring a cathode, focusing plane, and anode structure, was modeled in COMSOL to compute electric fields. Signal and background events were generated using BxDecay0 and Geant4, while Garfield++ was employed to simulate charge transport and signal induction. Three-dimensional tracks were reconstructed from drift-time differences between the two assumed ion species using a breadth-first search algorithm. To demonstrate the framework's analytical capability, topological variables were taken from reconstructed tracks and used to define selection criteria. A boosted decision tree was then implemented to benchmark the signal-background separation. This simulation framework successfully validates the complete experimental workflow, serving as a robust tool for detector design and future sensitivity studies in the N$\nu$DEx experiment.

Observation of multiple surface states in naturally cleavable chiral crystal PdSbSe

Chiral multifold fermions in solids exhibit unique band structures and topological properties, making them ideal for exploring fundamental physical phenomena related to nontrivial topology, chirality, and symmetry breaking. However, the challenge of obtaining clean, flat surfaces through cleavage has hindered the investigation of their unique electronic states. In this study, we utilize high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations to investigate the low-energy electronic structure of the cleavable single-crystal PdSbSe. Our combined experimental and theoretical analysis reveals the presence of multifold degenerate fermions within this chiral crystal. We also observe multiple chiral Fermi arc surface states and spin-splitting behavior in the associated bulk bands. These findings provide unique insights into chiral, multifold fermionic states in easily cleavable crystals and offer a robust platform for further research into their unique electronic properties and potential applications in novel electronic devices.

Measurement of gas properties for the ion-TPC of N$\nu$DEx experiment

In the N$\nu$DEx collaboration, a high-pressure gas TPC is being developed to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay. The use of electronegative $\mathrm{^{82}SeF_{6}}$ gas mandates an ion-TPC. The reconstruction of $z$ coordinate is to be realized exploiting the feature of multiple species of charge carriers. As the initial stage of the development, we studied the properties of the $\mathrm{SF_{6}}$ gas, which is non-toxic and has similar molecular structure to $\mathrm{SeF_{6}}$. In the paper we present the measurement of drift velocities and mobilities of the majority and minority negative charge carriers found in $\mathrm{SF_{6}}$ at a pressure of 750 Torr, slightly higher than the local atmospheric pressure. The reduced fields range between 3.0 and 5.5 Td. It was performed using a laser beam to ionize the gas inside a small TPC, with a drift length of 3.7 cm. A customized charge sensitive amplifier was developed to read out the anode signals induced by the slowly drifting ions. The reconstruction of $z$ coordinate using the difference in the velocities of the two carriers was also demonstrated.

Low algorithmic delay implementation of convolutional beamformer for online joint source separation and dereverberation

Blind-audio-source-separation (BASS) techniques, particularly those with low latency, play an important role in a wide range of real-time systems, e.g., hearing aids, in-car hand-free voice communication, real-time human-machine interaction, etc. Most existing BASS algorithms are deduced to run on batch mode, and therefore large latency is unavoidable. Recently, some online algorithms were developed, which achieve separation on a frame-by-frame basis in the short-time-Fourier-transform (STFT) domain and the latency is significantly reduced as compared to those batch methods. However, the latency with these algorithms may still be too long for many real-time systems to bear. To further reduce latency while achieving good separation performance, we propose in this work to integrate a weighted prediction error (WPE) module into a non-causal sample-truncating-based independent vector analysis (NST-IVA). The resulting algorithm can maintain the algorithmic delay as NST-IVA if the delay with WPE is appropriately controlled while achieving significantly better performance, which is validated by simulations.

Observation of Spin Splitting in Room-Temperature Metallic Antiferromagnet CrSb

Recently, unconventional antiferromagnets that enable the splitting of electronic spins have been theoretically proposed and experimentally realized, where the magnetic sublattices containing moments pointing at different directions are connected by a novel set of symmetries. Such spin splitting (SS) is substantial, $k$-dependent, and independent of the spin-orbit coupling strength, making these magnets promising materials for antiferromagnetic spintronics. Here, combined with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we perform a systematic study on CrSb, a metallic spin-split antiferromagnet candidate with $T_N$ = 703 K. Our data reveals the electronic structure of CrSb along both out-of-plane and in-plane momentum directions, which renders anisotropic $k$-dependent SS and agrees well with the calculational results. The magnitude of such SS reaches up to at least 0.8 eV at non-high-symmetry momentum points, which is significantly higher than the largest known SOC-induced SS. This compound expands the choice of materials in the field of antiferromagnetic spintronics and is likely to stimulate subsequent investigations of high-efficiency spintronic devices that are functional at room temperature.
