V2-STRep: VLM-Grounded Structured Task Representations for Reusable Robot Skills Acquired from Generated Videos

Human manipulation videos provide rich motion and interaction cues for acquiring robot skills without robot demonstrations. Video generation models synthesize such demonstrations from an initial scene image and task instruction, avoiding the need to record demonstrations for each task. However, the recovered motion captures only one scene-specific realization, leaving task structure, geometric relations, and constraints implicit. We present V2-STRep, a zero-shot framework that converts generated video motion into reusable robot skills through VLM-grounded structured task representations. The representation specifies motion phases, references, and task-relevant constraints, with targets described by minimal geometric structures: points, point-normals, axes, planes, and full 6D poses. VLM-provided 2D image-space cues are lifted into 3D using RGB-D observations to reconstruct task geometry and candidate grasp poses. Geometry-specific rules transfer motion to new scenes, while task-constrained trajectory optimization couples grasp selection with complete robot motion planning. It preserves task requirements while using remaining rotational freedom to accommodate joint limits. Updating deployment grounding and constraints enables reuse under new compatible instructions without generating another video. Experiments on six real-world manipulation tasks demonstrate improved execution success over baselines, reliable cross-scene transfer of successfully acquired skills, and adaptation to changed deployment instructions.

Learning Forward & Reverse Skills from a Single Unfinished Demonstration for Constrained Manipulation Tasks

Learning from demonstration (LfD) enables robots to learn manipulation skills directly from expert demonstrations but remains challenging for contact-rich tasks involving geometric constraints and force interaction. Existing approaches typically require multiple complete demonstrations and do not support reverse skill execution. In this paper, we present a unified one-shot framework for constrained manipulation that learns both forward and reverse execution from a single, possibly unfinished demonstration. Our method decomposes demonstrations into non-contact and contact phases, with non-contact motion encoded with dynamic movement primitives (DMP), and contact motion represented as a sequence of screw motion primitives segmented by our proposed geometry-driven twist-direction segmentation algorithm. During execution, screw primitives are executed sequentially under admittance-guided pose correction and speed regulation, enabling task completion beyond the demonstrated trajectory length as well as reverse skill execution without additional learning data. Experiments on peg insertion, battery insertion, lock opening, and screw driving tasks demonstrate improved success rates and robustness over segmentation and one-shot trajectory learning baselines. RoboCAP: Robotic Classification and Precision Pouring of Diverse Liquids and Granular Media with Capacitive Sensing

Liquids and granular media are pervasive throughout human environments, yet remain particularly challenging for robots to sense and manipulate precisely. In this work, we present a systematic approach at integrating capacitive sensing within robotic end effectors to enable robust sensing and precise manipulation of liquids and granular media. We introduce the parallel-jaw RoboCAP Gripper with embedded capacitive sensing arrays that enable a robot to directly sense the materials and dynamics of liquids inside of diverse containers, including some visually opaque. When coupled with model-based control, we demonstrate that the proposed system enables a robotic manipulator to achieve state-of-the-art precision pouring accuracy for a range of substances with varying dynamics properties. Code, designs, and build details are available on the project website.
