2d BF Theory Coupled to 1d Quantum Mechanics: The Phase Space and Its Quantization

We study the ring of functions on the (classical and quantized) phase space of 2-dimensional BF theory with the gauge group $\mathrm{GL}_N$ coupled to a 1-dimensional quantum mechanics with global symmetry $\mathrm{GL}_K$. These functions are gauge-invariant local observables of the coupled system. We first construct the classical phase space of this system and describe its ring of functions, as well as their large-$N$ limit. We next compute the Hilbert series of these algebras for finite $N$ and in the large-$N$ limit. We then study the quantization of this phase space and the deformation quantization of its ring of functions, elaborate its relation to the Yangian, and construct its coproduct. Finally, we identify these quantized algebras with the quantized Coulomb branch algebras of certain 3d $\mathscr{N}=4$ quiver gauge theories.

Chiralization of Quiver Varieties

Given a quiver Q with gauge dimension $\bf v$ and framing dimension $\bf w$, one can define the extended quiver variety $\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$, which is a smooth family of deformations of the Nakajima quiver variety $\mathcal M(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$. In this paper we discuss two vertex algebras which chiralize the geometry $\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$. We construct a sheaf of $\hbar$-adic vertex superalgebras $\mathscr D^{\mathrm{ch}}_{\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w),\hbar}$ on $\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$ which quantizes the jet bundle of $\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$, and define a vertex algebra $\mathsf D^{\mathrm{ch}}(\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w))$ to be the $\hbar=1$ specialization of the $\mathbb C^{\times}$-finite part of the vector space of global sections $Γ(\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w), \mathscr D^{\mathrm{ch}}_{\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w),\hbar})$. We define another vertex superalgebra $\mathcal V(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$ by BRST reduction of the tensor product of the $βγbc$-system and Heisenberg VOA associated to the quiver Q, and show that there exists a natural vertex superalgebra map from $\mathcal V(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$ to $\mathsf D^{\mathrm{ch}}(\widetilde{\mathcal M}(\mathbf v,\mathbf w))$. Under certain technical assumptions, we prove that the negative degree BRST cohomologies of the tensor product of $βγbc$-systems and Heisenberg VOA associated to the quiver Q are zero, and under stronger assumptions, that the aforementioned vertex superalgebra map is injective. Physically, the vertex superalgebra $\mathcal V(\mathbf v,\mathbf w)$ is closely related to the boundary VOA of the H-twisted 3D $\mathcal N=4$ quiver gauge theory associated to the quiver Q with gauge and framing dimension vectors $\bf v$ and $\bf w$.

Symmetric quiver varieties and critical stable envelopes

Symmetric quiver varieties with potentials are natural generalizations of Nakajima quiver varieties, and their equivariant critical cohomologies provide more flexible settings for geometric representation theory and enumerative geometry. In this paper, we study their geometric properties and show that they behave like universally deformed Nakajima quiver varieties. Based on this, we provide a new proof of the existence of critical stable envelopes on them. Following an idea of Nakajima, we give a sheaf theoretic interpretation of critical stable envelopes by the hyperbolic restriction in the affinization of symmetric quiver varieties. The associativity of hyperbolic restrictions implies the triangle lemma of critical stable envelopes.

Shifted quantum groups via critical stable envelopes

Given a symmetric quiver with potential, we develop a geometric construction of shifted Yangians acting on the critical cohomologies of antidominantly framed quiver varieties with extended potentials, using the $R$-matrices constructed from critical stable envelopes. We relate such Reshetikhin type Yangians to Drinfeld type Yangians arising from critical cohomological Hall algebras. Several detailed examples, including the trivial, Jordan, and tripled Jordan quivers are explicitly computed. For symmetric quiver varieties with potentials, by using the smallness property of their affinization maps, we derive explicit formulas for quantum multiplication by divisors in terms of Casimir elements of the associated Lie (super)algebras, extending results from Nakajima quiver varieties to the critical setting. A similar formula in the antidominantly framed case is also obtained, which includes Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb C^3$ as examples.

Decomposition of $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal minimal models and their fractional quantum Hall wavefunctions

$\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal minimal models are the first series of unitary conformal field theories (CFTs) extending beyond Virasoro algebra. Using coset constructions, we characterize CFTs in $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal minimal models using combinations of a parafermion theory, an Ising theory and a free boson theory. Supercurrent operators in the original theory also becomes sums of operators from each constituent theory. If we take our $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal theories as the neutral part of the edge theory of a fractional quantum Hall state, we present a systematic way of calculating its ground state wavefunction using free field methods. Each ground state wavefunction is known previously as a sum of polynomials with distinct clustering behaviours. Based on our decomposition, we find explicit expressions for each summand polynomial. A brief generalization to $S_3$ minimal models using coset construction is also included.

Stable envelopes for critical loci

This is the first in a sequence of papers devoted to stable envelopes in critical cohomology and critical $K$-theory for symmetric GIT quotients with potentials and related geometries, and their applications to geometric representation theory and enumerative geometry. In this paper, we construct critical stable envelopes and establish their general properties, including compatibility with dimensional reductions, specializations, Hall products, and other geometric constructions. In particular, for tripled quivers with canonical cubic potentials, the critical stable envelopes reproduce those on Nakajima quiver varieties. These set up foundations for applications in subsequent papers.

Hyperbolic Monopoles, (Semi-)Holomorphic Chern-Simons Theories, and Generalized Chiral Potts Models

We study the relation between spectral data of magnetic monopoles in hyperbolic space and the curve of the spectral parameter of generalized chiral Potts models (gCPM) through the lens of (semi-)holomorphic field theories. We realize the identification of the data on the two sides, which we call the hyperbolic monopole/gCPM correspondence. For the group $\text{SU}(2)$, this correspondence had been observed by Atiyah and Murray in the 80s. Here, we revisit and generalize this correspondence and establish its origin. By invoking the work of Murray and Singer on hyperbolic monopoles, we first generalize the observation of Atiyah and Murray to the group $\text{SU}(n)$. We then propose a technology to engineer gCPM within the 4d Chern-Simons (CS) theory, which explains various features of the model, including the lack of rapidity-difference property of its R-matrix and its peculiarity of having a genus$\,\ge 2$ curve of the spectral parameter. Finally, we investigate the origin of the correspondence. We first clarify how the two sides of the correspondence can be realized from the 6d holomorphic CS theory on $\mathbb{P}S(M)$, the projective spinor bundle of the Minkowski space $M=\mathbb{R}^{1,3}$, for hyperbolic $\text{SU}(n)$-monopoles, and the Euclidean space $M=\mathbb{R}^4$, for the gCPM. We then establish that $\mathbb{P}S(M)$ can be holomorphically embedded into $\mathbb{P}S(\mathbb{C}^{1,3})$, the projective spinor bundle of $\mathbb{C}^{1,3}$, of complex dimension five with a fixed complex structure. We finally explain how the 6d CS theory on $\mathbb{P}S(M)$ can be realized as the dimensional reduction of the 10d holomorphic CS theory on $\mathbb{P}S(\mathbb{C}^{1,3})$. As the latter theory is only sensitive to the complex structure of $\mathbb{P}S(\mathbb{C}^{1,3})$, which has been fixed, we realize the correspondence as two incarnations of the same physics in ten dimensions.

5d-4d Correspondence in Twisted M-theory on a Conifold

We study twisted M-theory in a general conifold background, and describe it in terms of a 5d non-commutative Chern-Simons-matter theory, which is equivalent to 5d non-commutative Chern-Simons theory for a supergroup. In an equivalent description as twisted type IIA string theory, the matter degrees of freedom arise from topological strings stretched between stacks of D6-branes. In order to study 5d Chern-Simons-matter theories with a boundary, we first construct and investigate the properties of a 4d non-commutative gauged chiral WZW model. We prove the gauge invariant coupling of this 4d theory to the bulk 5d Chern-Simons theory defined on $\mathbb{R}_+ \times \mathbb{C}^2 $, and further generalize our results to the 5d Chern-Simons-matter theory. We also investigate the toroidal current algebra of the 4d chiral WZW model that arises from radial quantization along one of the complex planes. Finally, we show that a gauged non-commutative chiral 4d WZW model arises from the partition function for quantum 5d non-commutative Chern-Simons theory with boundaries in the BV-BFV formalism, and further generalize this 5d-4d correspondence to the 5d non-commutative Chern-Simons-matter theory for the case of adjoint matter.

R-matrices and Miura operators in 5d Chern-Simons theory

We derive Miura operators for $W$- and $Y$-algebras from first principles as the expectation value of the intersection between a topological line defect and a holomorphic surface defect in 5-dimensional non-commutative $\mathfrak{gl}(1)$ Chern-Simons theory. The expectation value, viewed as the transition amplitude for states in the defect theories forming representations of the affine Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}(1)$, satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation and is thus interpreted as an R-matrix. To achieve this, we identify the representations associated with the line and surface defects by calculating the operator product expansions (OPEs) of local operators on the defects, as conditions that anomalous Feynman diagrams cancel each other. We then evaluate the expectation value of the defect intersection using Feynman diagrams. When the line and surface defects are specified, we demonstrate that the expectation value precisely matches the Miura operators and their products.

Elliptic Stable Envelopes for Certain Non-Symplectic Varieties and Dynamical $R$-Matrices for Superspin Chains from the Bethe/Gauge Correspondence

We generalize Aganagic-Okounkov's theory of elliptic stable envelopes, and its physical realization in Dedushenko-Nekrasov's and Bullimore-Zhang's works, to certain varieties without holomorphic symplectic structure or polarization. These classes of varieties include, in particular, classical Higgs branches of 3d $\mathcal N=2$ quiver gauge theories. The Bethe/gauge correspondence relates such a gauge theory to an anisotropic/elliptic superspin chain, and the stable envelopes compute the $R$-matrix that solves the dynamical Yang-Baxter equation (dYBE) for this spin chain. As an illustrative example, we solve the dYBE for the elliptic $\mathfrak{sl}(1|1)$ spin chain with fundamental representations using the corresponding 3d $\mathcal N=2$ SQCD whose classical Higgs branch is the Lascoux resolution of a determinantal variety. Certain Janus partition functions of this theory on $I \times \mathbb E$ for an interval $I$ and an elliptic curve $\mathbb E$ compute the elliptic stable envelopes, and in turn the geometric elliptic $R$-matrix, of the anisotropic $\mathfrak{sl}(1|1)$ spin chain. Furthermore, we consider the 2d and 1d reductions of elliptic stable envelopes and the $R$-matrix. The reduction to 2d gives the K-theoretic stable envelopes and the trigonometric $R$-matrix, and a further reduction to 1d produces the cohomological stable envelopes and the rational $R$-matrix. The latter recovers Rimányi-Rozansky's results that appeared recently in the mathematical literature.

On the Hilbert Space of the Chern-Simons Matrix Model, Deformed Double Current Algebra Action, and the Conformal Limit

A Chern-Simons matrix model was proposed by Dorey, Tong, and Turner to describe non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall effect. In this paper we study the Hilbert space of the Chern-Simons matrix model from a geometric quantization point of view. We show that the Hilbert space of the Chern-Simons matrix model can be identified with the space of sections of a line bundle on the quiver variety associated to a framed Jordan quiver. We compute the character of the Hilbert space using localization technique. Using a natural isomorphism between vortex moduli space and a Beilinson-Drinfeld Schubert variety, we prove that the ground states wave functions are flat sections of a bundle of conformal blocks associated to a WZW model. In particular they solve a Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation. We show that there exists a natural action of the deformed double current algebra (DDCA) on the Hilbert space, moreover the action is irreducible. We define and study the conformal limit of the Chern-Simons matrix model. We show that the conformal limit of the Hilbert space is an irreducible integrable module of $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ with level identified with the matrix model level. Moreover, we prove that $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ generators can be obtained from scaling limits of matrix model operators, which settles a conjecture of Dorey-Tong-Turner. The key to the proof is the construction of a Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ action on the conformal limit of the Hilbert space, which we expect to be equivalent to the $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ action on the integrable $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ modules constructed by Uglov. We also characterize eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the matrix model Hilbert space with respect to a maximal commutative subalgebra of Yangian.

Quantum Algebra of Chern-Simons Matrix Model and Large $N$ Limit

In this paper we study the algebra of quantum observables of the Chern-Simons matrix model which was originally proposed by Susskind and Polychronakos to describe electrons in fractional quantum Hall effects. We establish the commutation relations for its generators and study the large $N$ limit of its representation. We show that the large $N$ limit algebra is isomorphic to the uniform in $N$ algebra studied by Costello, which is isomorphic to the deformed double current algebra studied by Guay. Under appropriate scaling limit, we show that the large $N$ limit algebra degenerates to a Lie algebra which admits a surjective map to the affine Lie algebra of $\mathfrak{u}(p)$. This leads to a complete proof of the large $N$ emergence of the $\mathfrak{u}(p)$ current algebra as proposed by Dorey, Tong and Turner. This also suggests a rigorous derivation of edge excitation of a fractional quantum Hall droplet.

Deformed Double Current Algebras, Matrix Extended $\mathcal W_{\infty}$ Algebras, Coproducts, and Intertwiners from the M2-M5 Intersection

We study the algebraic structures which govern the deformation of supersymmetric intersections of M2 and M5 branes. The universal algebras on M2 and M5 branes are deformed double current algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_K$ and $\mathfrak{gl}_K$-extended $\mathcal{W}_{\infty}$-algebra respectively. We give a new presentation of the deformed double current algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_K$, and we give a rigorous mathematical construction of the $\mathfrak{gl}_K$-extended $\mathcal{W}_{\infty}$-algebra. A new presentation of the affine Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}_K$ is also obtained. We construct various coproducts of these algebras, which are expected to encode the fusions of defects in twisted M-theory. The matrix extended Miura operators are identified as intertwiners in certain bimodules of these algebras.

Line Operators in 4d Chern-Simons Theory and Cherkis Bows

We show that the phase spaces of a large family of line operators in 4d Chern-Simons theory with $\text{GL}_n$ gauge group are given by Cherkis bow varieties with $n$ crosses. These line operators are characterized by Hanany-Witten type brane constructions involving D3, D5, and NS5 branes in an $Ω$-background. Linking numbers of the five-branes and mass parameters for the D3 brane theories determine the phase spaces and in special cases they correspond to vacuum moduli spaces of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver theories. Examples include line operators that conjecturally create T, Q, and L-operators in integrable spin chains.

Affine $\mathcal{W}$-algebras and Miura maps from 3d $\mathcal N=4$ non-Abelian quiver gauge theories

We study Vertex Operator Algebras (VOAs) obtained from the H-twist of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ linear quiver gauge theories. We find that H-twisted VOAs can be regarded as the ''chiralization'' of the extended Higgs branch: many of the ingredients of the Higgs branch are naturally ''uplifted'' into the VOAs, while conversely the Higgs branch can be recovered as the associated variety of the VOA. We also discuss the connection of our VOA with affine $\mathcal{W}$-algebras. For example, we construct an explicit homomorphism from an affine $\mathcal{W}$-algebra $\mathcal{W}^{-n+1}(\mathfrak{gl}_n,f_{\mathrm{min}})$ into the H-twisted VOA for $T^{[2,1^{n-2}]}_{[1^n]}[\mathrm{SU}(n)]$ theories. Motivated by the relation with affine $\mathcal{W}$-algebras, we introduce a reduction procedure for the quiver diagram, and use this to give an algorithm to systematically construct novel free-field realizations for VOAs associated with general linear quivers.

Evidence for an algebra of $G_2$ instantons II

Building on our previous work [2109.01110], we will compute a new kind of $G_2$ instanton partition function. By doing so, we complete a set of building blocks of the instanton partition function associated with a large class of $G_2$ manifolds.

Evidence for an Algebra of $\boldsymbol{G_2}$ Instantons

In this short note, we present some evidence towards the existence of an algebra of BPS $G_2$ instantons. These are instantonic configurations that govern the partition functions of 7d SYM theories on local $G_2$ holonomy manifolds $\mathcal X$. To shed light on such structure, we begin investigating the relation with parent 4d $\mathcal N=1$ theories obtained by geometric engineering M-theory on $\mathcal X$. The main point of this paper is to substantiate the following dream: the holomorphic sector of such theories on multi-centered Taub-NUT spaces gives rise to an algebra whose characters organise the $G_2$ instanton partition function. As a first step towards this program, we argue by string duality that a multitude of geometries $\mathcal X$ exist that are dual to well-known 4d SCFTs arising from D3 branes probes of CY cones: all these models are amenable to analysis along the lines suggested by Dijkgraaf, Gukov, Neitzke and Vafa in the context of topological M-theory. Moreover, we discuss an interesting relation to Costello's twisted M-theory, which arises at local patches, and is a key ingredient in identifying the relevant algebras.

On the Reducedness of Quiver Schemes

In this paper we prove that a quiver scheme in characteristic zero is reduced if the moment map is flat. We use the reducedness result to show that the equivariant integration formula computes the K-theoretic Nekrasov partition function of five dimensional $\mathcal N=2$ quiver gauge theories when the moment map is flat. We also give an explicit characterization of flatness of moment map for finite and affine type A Dynkin quivers with framings. As an application, we give a refinement of a theorem of Ivan Losev on the relation between quantized Nakajima quiver variety in type A and parabolic finite W-algebra in type A.
