Equivalence Between Continuous-Time Risk-Sensitive Control and R\'enyi Divergence Minimization

In this study, we show that a continuous-time risk-sensitive control problem is equivalent to a R\'enyi divergence minimization problem over trajectory path measures. Reformulating stochastic optimal control as probabilistic inference via Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence minimization avoids the computational intractability of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. However, standard KL control is inherently risk-neutral, and recent minimax extensions remain restricted to risk-averse settings. Our equivalence result resolves this limitation by offering a unified probabilistic framework for arbitrary risk attitudes in continuous-time nonlinear systems. Based on Girsanov theorem, we explicitly map the risk sensitivity to the R\'enyi divergence order, deriving a noise-dependent control penalty scaled by risk preference. This formulation seamlessly modulates tail-weighting behaviors, interpolating between zero-forcing for risk-averse policies and mass-covering for risk-seeking policies. These findings bridge stochastic control and information-theoretic inference, providing a foundation for sampling-based control algorithms.

Stochastic Optimal Investment Strategy for Net-Zero Energy Houses

In this research, we investigate Net-Zero Energy Houses (ZEH), which harness regionally produced electricity from photovoltaic(PV) panels and fuel cells, integrating them into a local power system in pursuit of achieving carbon neutrality. This paper examines the impact of electricity sharing among users who are working towards attaining ZEH status through the integration of PV panels and battery storage devices. We propose two potential scenarios: the first assumes that all users individually invest in storage devices, hence minimizing their costs on a local level without energy sharing; the second envisions cost minimization through the collective use of a shared storage device, managed by a central manager. These two scenarios are formulated as a stochastic convex optimization and a cooperative game, respectively. To tackle the stochastic challenges posed by multiple random variables, we apply the Monte Carlo sample average approximation (SAA) to the problems. To demonstrate the practical applicability of these models, we implement the proposed scenarios in the Jono neighborhood in Kitakyushu, Japan.

Sparse Feedback Controller: From Open-loop Solution to Closed-loop Realization

In this paper, we explore the discrete time sparse feedback control for a linear invariant system, where the proposed optimal feedback controller enjoys input sparsity by using a dynamic linear compensator, i.e., the components of feedback control signal having the smallest possible nonzero values. The resulting augmented dynamics ensures closed-loop stability, which infers sparse feedback controller from open-loop solution to closed-loop realization. In particular, we show that the implemented sparse feedback (closed-loop) control solution is equivalent to the original sparse (open-loop) control solution under a specified basis. We then extend the dynamic compensator to a feedforward tracking control problem. Finally, numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed control approach.
