Measurement of the CP Violation Parameters in B0 -> pi+ pi- Decays

We present a measurement of the time-dependent charge-parity (CP) violation parameters in B0 -> pi+ pi- decays. The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 million BBbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain the CP violation parameters Acp = +0.33 +/- 0.06 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) and Scp = -0.64 +/- 0.08 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst), where Acp and Scp represent the direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetry, respectively. Using an isospin analysis including results from other Belle measurements, we find 23.8 < phi2 < 66.8 degrees is disfavored at the 1 sigma level, where phi2 is one of the three interior angles of the CKM unitarity triangle related to B_{u,d} decays.

Toward the Global Structure of Conformal Theories in the SU(3) Gauge Theory

We introduce a new concept "conformal theories with an IR cutoff", after pointing out that the following two categories in SU(3) gauge theories with fundamental N_f fermions possess an IR fixed point: Large N_f QCD with N_f in the conformal window (referred as Conformal QCD) and small N_f QCD with N_f out of the conformal window at temperature T/Tc > 1 (referred as High Temperature QCD). In the conformal theories with an IR cutoff there exists the "conformal region'" together with the confining region and the deconfining region. We verify numerically on a lattice of the size 16^3 x64 the existence of the conformal region and the non-trivial Z(3) structure of the vacuum and the Yukawa-type decay form of meson propagators in the conformal region. We stress that High Temperature QCD is intrinsically accompanied with an IR cutoff. Therefore the understanding the vacuum structure and the property of correlation functions is the key to resolve long standing issues in High Temperature QCD. We further argue that there is a precise correspondence between Conformal QCD and High Temperature QCD in the temporal propagators under the change of the parameters N_f and T/T_c respectively: the one boundary is close to meson states and the other is close to free quark states. In particular, we find the correspondence between Conformal QCD with N_f = 7 and High Temperature QCD with N_f=2 at T ~ 2 Tc being in close relation to a meson unparticle model. From this we estimate the anomalous mass dimension gamma* = 1.2 (1) for N_f=7.

Measurement of the Decays $B^0_s\to J/ψ\,ϕ(1020)$, $B^0_{s}\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525)$ and $B^0_s\to J/ψ\,K^+K^-$ at Belle

We report a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $B^0_s\to J/ψ\,ϕ(1020)$, evidence and a branching fraction measurement for $B^0_s\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525)$, and the determination of the total $B^0_s\to J/ψ\,K^+K^-$ branching fraction, including the resonant and non-resonant contributions to the $K^+K^-$ channel. We also determine the $S$-wave contribution within the $ϕ(1020)$ mass region. The absolute branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,ϕ(1020)]=(1.25 \pm 0.07\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.08\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.22\left(f_s\right))\times 10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525)]=(0.26\pm 0.06\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{syst}\right) \pm 0.05\left(f_s\right))\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,K^+K^-] = (1.01\pm 0.09\left(\mathrm{stat}\right) \pm 0.10\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.18\left(f_s\right))\times 10^{-3}$, where the last systematic error is due to the branching fraction of $b\bar{b}\to B^{(*)}_s B^{(*)}_s$. The branching fraction ratio is found to be $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525)]/\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,ϕ(1020)]=(21.5\pm 4.9\left(\mathrm{stat}\right) \pm2.6\left(\mathrm{syst}\right))%$. All results are based on a 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Experimental constraints on the spin and parity of the Z(4430)+

We perform a full amplitude analysis of B0 -> psi' K+ pi- decays, with psi' -> mu+ mu- or e+ e-, to constrain the spin and parity of the Z(4430)-. The J^P=1+ hypothesis is favored over the 0-, 1-, 2- and 2+ hypotheses at the levels of 3.4 sigma, 3.7 sigma, 4.7 sigma and 5.1 sigma, respectively. The analysis is based on a 711 fb^-1 data sample that contains 772x10^6 B B pairs, collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider KEKB.

Evidence for B_s^0 -> Lambda_c^+ Lambda-bar pi^-

Evidence for Semileptonic B- to p pbar l nubar Decays

We find evidence for the semileptonic baryonic decay $B^-\to p\bar p\ell^-\barν_\ell$ ($\ell=e,μ$), based on a data sample of 772 million $B\bar B$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. A neural-network based hadronic $B$-meson tagging method is used in this study. The branching fraction of $B^-\to p\bar p\ell^-\barν_\ell$ is measured to be $(5.8^{+2.4}_{-2.1}\textrm{(stat.)}\pm 0.9\textrm{(syst.)})\times 10^{-6}$ with a significance of 3.2$σ$, where lepton universality is assumed. We also estimate the corresponding upper limit: $\mathcal{B}(B^-\to p\bar p\ell^-\barν_\ell) < 9.6\times 10^{-6}$ at the 90% confidence level. This measurement helps constrain the baryonic transition form factor in B decays.

Measurements of branching fractions of leptonic and hadronic Ds+ meson decays and extraction of the Ds+ meson decay constant

We present measurements of absolute branching fractions of hadronic and leptonic Ds+ decays to K- K+ pi+, anti-K0 K+, eta pi+, mu+ nu_mu and tau+ nu_tau and report a search for the leptonic Ds+ to e+ nu_e decays. The results are obtained from a data sample of 913 fb^-1 collected at or near the Y(4S) and Y(5S) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The branching fractions of hadronic decays are measured to be Br(Ds+ -> K- K+ pi+) = (5.06 +- 0.15 +- 0.21)%, Br(Ds+ -> anti-K0 K+) = (2.95 +- 0.11 +- 0.09)%, and Br(Ds+ -> eta pi+) = (1.82 +- 0.14 +- 0.07)%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The branching fractions of leptonic decays are measured to be Br(Ds+ -> mu+ nu_mu) = (0.531 +- 0.028 +- 0.020)%, and Br(Ds+ -> tau+ nu_tau) = (5.70 +- 0.21 +0.31-0.30)%, which are combined to determine the Ds+ meson decay constant f_Ds = (255.5 +- 4.2 +- 5.1) MeV. We find no significant signal for Ds+ -> e+ nu_e decays and set an upper limit of Br(Ds+ -> e+ nu_e) < 1.0 (0.83) x 10^-4 at 95% (90%) confidence level.

Measurement of $e^+ e^- \to ωπ^0$, $K^{\ast}(892)\bar{K}$ and $K_2^{\ast}(1430)\bar{K}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ near 10.6 GeV

Using data samples of 89 fb$^{-1}$, 703 fb$^{-1}$, and 121 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider at center-of-mass energies 10.52 GeV, 10.58 GeV, and 10.876 GeV, respectively, we study the exclusive reactions $e^+e^- \to ωπ^0$, $K^{\ast}(892)\bar{K}$, and $K_2^{\ast}(1430)\bar{K}$ (Charge-conjugate modes are included implicitly). Significant signals of $ωπ^0$, $K^{\ast}(892)^0\bar{K}^0$, and $K_2^{\ast}(1430)^-K^+$ are observed for the first time at these energies, and the energy dependencies of the cross sections are presented. On the other hand, no significant excesses for $K^{\ast}(892)^-K^+$ and $K_2^{\ast}(1430)^0 \bar{K}^0$ are found, and we set limits on the cross section ratios $R_{\rm VP} = \frac{σ_B(e^+e^-\to K^{\ast}(892)^0\bar K^0)} {σ_B(e^+e^-\to K^{\ast}(892)^-K^+)}>$ 4.3, 20.0, and 5.4, and $R_{\rm TP} = \frac{σ_B(e^+e^-\to K_2^{\ast}(1430)^0\bar K^0)} {σ_B(e^+e^-\to K_2^{\ast}(1430)^-K^+)}<$ 1.1, 0.4, and 0.6, for center-of-mass energies of 10.52 GeV, 10.58 GeV, and 10.876 GeV, respectively, at the 90% C.L.

Search for Bottomonium States in Exclusive Radiative Upsilon(2S) Decays

We search for bottomonium states in Upsilon(2S)-> (bb-bar) gamma decays with an integrated luminosity of 24.7fb^-1 recorded at the Upsilon(2S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEK, containing (157.8+-3.6) X 10^6 Upsilon(2S) events. The (bb-bar) system is reconstructed in 26 exclusive hadronic final states composed of charged pions, kaons, protons, and K^0_S mesons. We find no evidence for the state recently observed around 9975 MeV (X_(bb-bar)) in an analysis based on a data sample of 9.3 X 10^6 Upsilon(2S) events collected with the CLEO III detector. We set a 90 % confidence-level upper limit on the branching fraction B[Upsilon(2S)-> X_(bb-bar) gamma] X \sum_i{B[X_(bb-bar)-> h_i]}< 4.9 X 10^-6, summed over the exclusive hadronic final states employed in our analysis. This result is an order of magnitude smaller than the measurement reported with CLEO data. We also set an upper limit for the eta_b(1S) state of B[Upsilon(2S)-> eta_b(1S) gamma] X \sum_i{B[eta_b(1S)-> h_i]}< 3.7 X 10^-6.

Conformal Window and Correlation Functions in Lattice Conformal QCD

We discuss various aspects of Conformal Field Theories on the Lattice. We mainly investigate the SU(3) gauge theory with N_f degenerate fermions in the fundamental representation, employing the one-plaquette gauge action and the Wilson fermion action. First we make a brief review of our previous works and thereby clarify the reason why we conjecture that the conformal window is 7 le N_f le 16. Secondly, we introduce a new concept, "conformal theories with an IR cutoff" and point out that any numerical simulation on a lattice is bounded by an IR cutoff Lambda_{IR}. Then we make predictions that when N_f is within the conformal window, the propagator of a meson G(t) behaves at large t, as G(t) = c exp(-m_H t)/t^alpha, that is, a modified Yukawa-type decay form, instead of the usual exponential decay form in the small quark mass region. This holds on an any lattice for any coupling constant g, as far as g is between 0 and g^*, where g^* is the IR fixed point. We verify that numerical results really satisfy the predictions for the N_f=7 case and the N_f=16 case. Thirdly, we discuss small number of flavors (N_f=2 sim 6) QCD at finite temperatures. We point out theoretically and verify numerically that the correlation functions at T/T_c > 1 exhibit the characteristics of the conformal function with IR cutoff, an exponential decay with power correction. Further, we observe our data are consistent with the picture that the N_f=7 case and the N_f=2 at T sim 2 T_c case are close to the meson unparticle model, and we estimate gamma^* = 1.2(1). On the other hand, the N_f=16 case and the N_f=2 at T= 10^2 sim 10^5 Tc cases are close to a free state in the Z(3) twisted vacuum. The results give clues for long standing issues such as slow approach of the free energy to the Stefan-Boltzmann ideal gas limit.

Measurement of the Wrong-Sign Decay D0 -> K+ pi- pi+ pi-

A measurement of the rate for the "wrong-sign" decay D0 -> K+ pi- pi+ pi- relative to that for the "right-sign" decay D0 -> K- pi+ pi+ pi- is presented. Multiplying this ratio by the world average value for the branching fraction B(D0 -> K- pi+ pi+ pi-) gives a branching fraction B(D0 -> K+ pi- pi+ pi-) = (2.61 +- 0.06 +0.09 -0.08) x 10-4.

Precise measurement of the branching fractions for Bs->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- and first measurement of the Ds*+ Ds*- polarization using e+e- collisions

We have made a precise measurement of the absolute branching fractions of Bs->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- decays using 121.4 fb-1 of data recorded by the Belle experiment running on the Upsilon(5S) resonance. The results are B(Bs0->Ds+ Ds-) = (0.58 +0.11 -0.09 +-0.13)%, B(Bs0->Ds*+- Ds-+) = (1.8 +-0.2 +-0.4)%, and B(Bs0->Ds*+ Ds*-) = (2.0 +-0.3 +-0.5)%; the sum is B(Bs0->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- = (4.3 +-0.4 +-1.0)%. Assuming Bs->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- saturates decays to CP-even final states, the branching fraction constrains the ratio Delta(Gamma_s)/cos(phi_s), where Delta(Gamma_s) is the difference in widths between the two Bs0-Bs0bar mass eigenstates, and phi_s is the CP-violating phase in Bs0-Bs0bar mixing. For phi_s=0 we obtain Delta(Gamma_s)/Gamma_s = 0.090 +-0.009 (stat.) +-0.023 (syst.), where Gamma_s is the mean decay width. We also measure for the first time the longitudinal polarization fraction of Bs->Ds*+ Ds*-; the result is 0.12 +0.30 -0.28 +0.04 -0.05.

Measurement of exclusive $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays into Vector-Pseudoscalar final states

Using samples of 102 million $Υ(1S)$ and 158 million $Υ(2S)$ events collected with the Belle detector, we study exclusive hadronic decays of these two bottomonium resonances to $\ks K^+ π^-$ and charge-conjugate (c.c.) states, $π^+ π^- π^0 π^0$, and $π^+ π^- π^0$, and to the two-body Vector-Pseudoscalar ($K^{\ast}(892)^0\bar{K}^0+ {\rm c.c.}$, $K^{\ast}(892)^-K^+ + {\rm c.c.}$, $ωπ^0$, and $ρπ$) final states. For the first time, signals are observed in the modes $Υ(1S) \to \ks K^+ π^- + {\rm c.c.}$, $π^+ π^- π^0 π^0$, and $Υ(2S) \to π^+ π^- π^0 π^0$, and evidence is found for the modes $Υ(1S)\to π^+ π^- π^0$, $K^{\ast}(892)^0 \bar{K}^0+ {\rm c.c.}$, and $Υ(2S) \to \ks K^+ π^- + {\rm c.c.}$ Branching fractions are measured for all the processes, while 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are also set for the modes with a statistical significance of less than $3σ$. The ratios of the branching fractions of $Υ(2S)$ and $Υ(1S)$ decays into the same final state are used to test a perturbative QCD prediction for OZI-suppressed bottomonium decays.

Study of Exclusive B->X_u l nu Decays and Extraction of |V_{ub}| using Full Reconstruction Tagging at the Belle Experiment

We report the results of a study of the exclusive semileptonic decays B->pi0lnu, B->pi+lnu, B->rho0lnu, B->rho+lnu and B->omegalnu, where l represents an electron or a muon. The events are tagged by fully reconstructing a second B meson in the event in a hadronic decay mode. The measured branching fractions are Br(B->pi0lnu) = (0.80 +- 0.08 +- 0.04)x10^-4, Br(B->pi+lnu) = (1.49 +- 0.09 +- 0.07)x10^-4, Br(B->rho0lnu) = (1.83 +- 0.10 +- 0.10)x10^-4, Br(B->rho+lnu) = (3.22 +- 0.27 +- 0.24)x10^-4, and Br(B->omegalnu) =(1.07 +- 0.16 +- 0.07)x10^-4, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. The obtained branching fractions are inclusive of soft photon emission. We also determine the branching fractions as a function of the 4-momentum transfer squared to the leptonic system q^2=(p_l+p_nu)^2, where p_l and p_nu are the lepton and neutrino 4-momenta, respectively. Using the pion modes, a recent LCSR calculation, lattice QCD results and a model-independent description of the hadronic form factor, a value of the CKM matrix element |V_{ub}| = (3.52 +- 0.29)x10^-3 is extracted. For the first time, a charmless state with invariant mass greater than 1 GeV/c^2, which might be dominated by the decay B->f2lnu, is observed. These results are obtained from a 711 1/fb data sample that contains 772 millions BB pairs, collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+ e^- collider.
