Automatic Text Pronunciation Correlation Generation and Application for Contextual Biasing

Effectively distinguishing the pronunciation correlations between different written texts is a significant issue in linguistic acoustics. Traditionally, such pronunciation correlations are obtained through manually designed pronunciation lexicons. In this paper, we propose a data-driven method to automatically acquire these pronunciation correlations, called automatic text pronunciation correlation (ATPC). The supervision required for this method is consistent with the supervision needed for training end-to-end automatic speech recognition (E2E-ASR) systems, i.e., speech and corresponding text annotations. First, the iteratively-trained timestamp estimator (ITSE) algorithm is employed to align the speech with their corresponding annotated text symbols. Then, a speech encoder is used to convert the speech into speech embeddings. Finally, we compare the speech embeddings distances of different text symbols to obtain ATPC. Experimental results on Mandarin show that ATPC enhances E2E-ASR performance in contextual biasing and holds promise for dialects or languages lacking artificial pronunciation lexicons.

Calibration of cascaded phase shifters using pairwise scan method in silicon photonics integrated chip

Cascaded phase shifters (CPSs) based on silicon photonics integrated chips play important roles in quantum information processing tasks. Owing to an increase in the scale of silicon photonics chips, the time required to calibrate various CPSs has increased. We propose a pairwise scan method for rapidly calibrating CPSs by introducing equivalent Mach Zehnder Interferometer structures and a reasonable constraint of the initial relative phase. The calibration can be nearly completed when the scanning process is finished, and only a little calculation is required. To achieve better performance, the key components, thermal optical phase shifter and 2 * 2 50/50 multimode interference coupler, were simulated and optimized to prevent thermal crosstalk and ensure a good balance. A 6-CPSs structure in a packaged silicon photonics chip under different temperature was used to verify the rapid pairwise scan method, and a fidelity of 99.97% was achieved.

High quality epitaxial piezoelectric and ferroelectric wurtzite Al$_{1-x}$Sc$_x$N thin films

Piezoelectric and ferroelectric wurtzite are promising to reshape modern microelectronics because they can be easily integrated with mainstream semiconductor technology. Sc doped AlN (Al$_{1-x}$Sc$_x$N) has attracted much attention for its enhanced piezoelectric and emerging ferroelectric properties, yet the commonly used sputtering results in polycrystalline Al$_{1-x}$Sc$_x$N films with high leakage current. Here we report the pulsed laser deposition of single crystalline epitaxial Al$_{1-x}$Sc$_x$N thin films on sapphire and 4H-SiC substrates. Pure wurtzite phase is maintained up to $x = 0.3$ with minimal oxygen contamination. Polarization is estimated to be 140 $μ$C/cm$^2$ via atomic scale microscopy imaging and found to be switchable via a scanning probe. The piezoelectric coefficient is found to be 5 times of undoped one when $x = 0.3$, making it desirable for high frequency radiofrequency (RF) filters and three-dimensional nonvolatile memories.

Integrated quantum communication network and vibration sensing in optical fibers

Communication and sensing technology play a significant role in various aspects of modern society. A seamless combination of the communication and the sensing systems is desired and have attracted great interests in recent years. Here, we propose and demonstrate a network architecture that integrating the downstream quantum access network (DQAN) and vibration sensing in optical fibers. By encoding the key information of eight users simultaneously on the sidemode quantum states of a single laser source and successively separating them by a filter network, we achieve a secure and efficient DQAN with an average key rate of 1.88*10^4 bits per second over an 80 km single-mode fiber. Meanwhile, the vibration location with spatial resolution of 120 m, 24 m, and 8 m at vibration frequencies of 100 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz, respectively, is implemented with the existing infrastructure of the DQAN system. Our integrated architecture provides a viable and cost-effective solution for building a secure quantum communication sensor network, and open the way for expanding the functionality of quantum communication networks.

Compact quantum random number generator based on a laser diode and silicon photonics integrated hybrid chip

In this study, a compact and low-power-consumption quantum random number generator (QRNG) based on a laser diode and silicon photonics integrated hybrid chip is proposed and verified experimentally. The hybrid chip's size is 8.8*2.6*1 mm3, and the power of entropy source is 80 mW. A common mode rejection ratio greater than 40 dB was achieved using an optimized 1*2 multimode interferometer structure. A method for optimizing the quantum-to-classical noise ratio is presented. A quantum-to-classical noise ratio of approximately 9 dB was achieved when the photoelectron current is 1 microampere using a balance homodyne detector with a high dark current GeSi photodiode. The proposed QRNG has the potential for use in scenarios of moderate MHz random number generation speed, with low power, small volume, and low cost prioritized.

Co-Design for Spectral Coexistence between RIS-aided MIMO Radar and MIMO Communication Systems

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) refers to a signal reflection surface containing a large number of low-cost passive reflecting elements. RIS can improve the performance of radar and communication systems by dynamically modulating the wireless channels. In this paper, we consider the co-design for improving the co-existence between multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar and MIMO communication system with the aid of RIS.The design purpose is to improve the radar detection performance and guarantee the communication capability. Due to the unimodular constraint on the RIS coefficients and the constant-envelope constraint on the radar transmit waveforms, the associated optimization problem is non-convex.To tackle this problem, we develop a cyclic method based on minorization-maximization, semi-definite programming, and alternating direction method of multipliers. Numerical examples verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Silicon photonics-integrated time-domain balanced homodyne detector in continuous-variable quantum key distribution

We designed and experimentally demonstrated a silicon photonics-integrated time-domain balanced homodyne detector (TBHD), whose optical part has dimensions of 1.5 mm * 0.4 mm. To automatically and accurately balance the detector, new variable optical attenuators were used, and a common mode rejection ratio of 86.9 dB could be achieved. In the quantum tomography experiment, the density matrix and Wigner function of a coherent state were reconstructed with 99.97 % fidelity. The feasibility of this TBHD in a continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) system was also demonstrated. This facilitates the integration of the optical circuits of the CVQKD system based on the GG02 protocol on the silicon photonics chip using TBHD.

Relative Entropy-Based Waveform Optimization for Rician Target Detection with Dual-Function Radar Communication Systems

In this paper, we consider waveform design for dualfunction radar-communication systems based on multiple-inputmultiple-out arrays. To achieve better Rician target detection performance, we use the relative entropy associated with the formulated detection problem as the design metric. We also impose a multiuser interference energy constraint on the waveforms to ensure the achievable sum-rate of the communications. Two algorithms are presented to tackle the nonlinear non-convex waveform design problem. In the first algorithm, we derive a quadratic function to minorize the objective function. To tackle the quadratically constrained quadratic programming problem at each iteration, a semidefinite relaxation approach followed by a rank-one decomposition procedure and an efficient alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) are proposed, respectively. In the second algorithm, we present a novel ADMM algorithm to tackle the optimization problem and employ an efficient minorization-maximization approach in the inner loop of the ADMM algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of both algorithms. Moreover, the presented algorithms can be extended to synthesize peak-to-average-power ratio constrained waveforms, which allows the radio frequency amplifier to operate at an increased efficiency.

Constant-Modulus Waveform Design for Dual-Function Radar-Communication Systems in the Presence of Clutter

We investigate the constant-modulus (CM) waveform design for dual-function radar communication systems in the presence of clutter. To minimize the interference power and enhance the target acquisition performance, we use the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio as the design metric. In addition, to ensure the quality of the service for each communication user, we enforce a constraint on the synthesis error of every communication signals. An iterative algorithm, which is based on cyclic optimization, Dinkinbach's transform, and alternating direction of method of multipliers, is proposed to tackle the encountered non-convex optimization problem.Simulations illustrate that the CM waveforms synthesized by the proposed algorithm allow to suppress the clutter efficiently and control the synthesis error of communication signals to a low level.

Experimental Demonstration of Sequential Multiparty Quantum Secret Sharing and Quantum Conference Key Agreement

Quantum secret sharing (QSS) and quantum conference key agreement (QCKA) provide efficient encryption approaches for realizing multi-party secure communication, which are essential components of future quantum networks. We present three practical, scalable, verifiable (k, n) threshold QSS protocols that are secure against eavesdroppers and dishonest players. The proposed QSS protocols eliminate the need for each player preparing the laser source and laser phase locking of the overall players. The dealer can implement the parameter evaluation and get the secret information of each player without the cooperation from other players. We consider the practical security of the proposed QSS systems with Trojan-horse attack, untrusted source intensity fluctuating and untrusted noisy sources. Our QSS systems are versatile, they can support the QCKA protocol by only modifying the classic post-processing and requiring no changes to the underlying hardware architecture. We experimentally implement the QSS and QCKA protocol with five parties over 25 km (55 km) single mode fibers, and achieve a key rate of 0.0061 (7.14*10^-4) bits per pulse. Our work paves the way for the practical applications of future QSS and QCKA.

Low-Latency Online Speaker Diarization with Graph-Based Label Generation

This paper introduces an online speaker diarization system that can handle long-time audio with low latency. We enable Agglomerative Hierarchy Clustering (AHC) to work in an online fashion by introducing a label matching algorithm. This algorithm solves the inconsistency between output labels and hidden labels that are generated each turn. To ensure the low latency in the online setting, we introduce a variant of AHC, namely chkpt-AHC, to cluster the speakers. In addition, we propose a speaker embedding graph to exploit a graph-based re-clustering method, further improving the performance. In the experiment, we evaluate our systems on both DIHARD3 and VoxConverse datasets. The experimental results show that our proposed online systems have better performance than our baseline online system and have comparable performance to our offline systems. We find out that the framework combining the chkpt-AHC method and the label matching algorithm works well in the online setting. Moreover, the chkpt-AHC method greatly reduces the time cost, while the graph-based re-clustering method helps improve the performance.

A Probabilistic Model-Based Robust Waveform Design for MIMO Radar Detection

This paper addresses robust waveform design for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar detection. A probabilistic model is proposed to describe the target uncertainty. Considering that waveform design based on maximizing the probability of detection is intractable, the relative entropy between the distributions of the observations under two hypotheses (viz., the target is present/absent) is employed as the design metric. To tackle the resulting non-convex optimization problem, an efficient algorithm based on minorization-maximization (MM) is derived. Numerical results demonstrate that the waveform synthesized by the proposed algorithm is more robust to model mismatches.

BinsFormer: Revisiting Adaptive Bins for Monocular Depth Estimation

Monocular depth estimation is a fundamental task in computer vision and has drawn increasing attention. Recently, some methods reformulate it as a classification-regression task to boost the model performance, where continuous depth is estimated via a linear combination of predicted probability distributions and discrete bins. In this paper, we present a novel framework called BinsFormer, tailored for the classification-regression-based depth estimation. It mainly focuses on two crucial components in the specific task: 1) proper generation of adaptive bins and 2) sufficient interaction between probability distribution and bins predictions. To specify, we employ the Transformer decoder to generate bins, novelly viewing it as a direct set-to-set prediction problem. We further integrate a multi-scale decoder structure to achieve a comprehensive understanding of spatial geometry information and estimate depth maps in a coarse-to-fine manner. Moreover, an extra scene understanding query is proposed to improve the estimation accuracy, which turns out that models can implicitly learn useful information from an auxiliary environment classification task. Extensive experiments on the KITTI, NYU, and SUN RGB-D datasets demonstrate that BinsFormer surpasses state-of-the-art monocular depth estimation methods with prominent margins. Code and pretrained models will be made publicly available at \url{https://github.com/zhyever/Monocular-Depth-Estimation-Toolbox}.

Towards Lightweight Applications: Asymmetric Enroll-Verify Structure for Speaker Verification

With the development of deep learning, automatic speaker verification has made considerable progress over the past few years. However, to design a lightweight and robust system with limited computational resources is still a challenging problem. Traditionally, a speaker verification system is symmetrical, indicating that the same embedding extraction model is applied for both enrollment and verification in inference. In this paper, we come up with an innovative asymmetric structure, which takes the large-scale ECAPA-TDNN model for enrollment and the small-scale ECAPA-TDNNLite model for verification. As a symmetrical system, our proposed ECAPA-TDNNLite model achieves an EER of 3.07% on the Voxceleb1 original test set with only 11.6M FLOPS. Moreover, the asymmetric structure further reduces the EER to 2.31%, without increasing any computational costs during verification.

Generating Adversarial Samples For Training Wake-up Word Detection Systems Against Confusing Words

Wake-up word detection models are widely used in real life, but suffer from severe performance degradation when encountering adversarial samples. In this paper we discuss the concept of confusing words in adversarial samples. Confusing words are commonly encountered, which are various kinds of words that sound similar to the predefined keywords. To enhance the wake word detection system's robustness against confusing words, we propose several methods to generate the adversarial confusing samples for simulating real confusing words scenarios in which we usually do not have any real confusing samples in the training set. The generated samples include concatenated audio, synthesized data, and partially masked keywords. Moreover, we use a domain embedding concatenated system to improve the performance. Experimental results show that the adversarial samples generated in our approach help improve the system's robustness in both the common scenario and the confusing words scenario. In addition, we release the confusing words testing database called HI-MIA-CW for future research.

Discrete-modulation continuous-variable quantum key distribution with high key rate

Discrete-modulation continuous-variable quantum key distribution has the potential for large-scale deployment in the secure quantum communication networks due to low implementation complexity and compatibility with the current telecom systems. The security proof for four coherent states phase-shift keying (4-PSK) protocol has recently been established by applying numerical methods. However, the achievable key rate is relatively low compared with the optimal Gaussian modulation scheme. To enhance the key rate of discrete-modulation protocol, we first show that 8-PSK increases the key rate by about 60\% in comparison to 4-PSK, whereas the key rate has no significant improvement from 8-PSK to 12-PSK. We then expand the 12-PSK to two-ring constellation structure with four states in the inner ring and eight states in the outer ring, which significantly improves the key rate to be 2.4 times of that of 4-PSK. The key rate of the two-ring constellation structure can reach 70\% of the key rate achieved by Gaussian modulation in long distance transmissions, making this protocol an attractive alternative for high-rate and low-cost application in secure quantum communication networks.

Sparsely Overlapped Speech Training in the Time Domain: Joint Learning of Target Speech Separation and Personal VAD Benefits

Target speech separation is the process of filtering a certain speaker's voice out of speech mixtures according to the additional speaker identity information provided. Recent works have made considerable improvement by processing signals in the time domain directly. The majority of them take fully overlapped speech mixtures for training. However, since most real-life conversations occur randomly and are sparsely overlapped, we argue that training with different overlap ratio data benefits. To do so, an unavoidable problem is that the popularly used SI-SNR loss has no definition for silent sources. This paper proposes the weighted SI-SNR loss, together with the joint learning of target speech separation and personal VAD. The weighted SI-SNR loss imposes a weight factor that is proportional to the target speaker's duration and returns zero when the target speaker is absent. Meanwhile, the personal VAD generates masks and sets non-target speech to silence. Experiments show that our proposed method outperforms the baseline by 1.73 dB in terms of SDR on fully overlapped speech, as well as by 4.17 dB and 0.9 dB on sparsely overlapped speech of clean and noisy conditions. Besides, with slight degradation in performance, our model could reduce the time costs in inference.
