On the exact quantum chromatic number of generalized Johnson graphs

The quantum chromatic number is a fundamental parameter in the study of nonlocal games, capturing the extent to which entanglement can improve performance in distributed tasks. In this paper, we investigate the quantum chromatic number of generalized Johnson graphs. By constructing modulus-one orthogonal representations, we obtain general upper bounds on their quantum chromatic numbers. We further analyze the smallest eigenvalue of these graphs. Combining the resulting Hoffman-type lower bounds with the upper bounds obtained from orthogonal representations, we determine the exact quantum chromatic numbers of two infinite families of generalized Johnson graphs. Finally, applying a forbidden-distance theorem for binary codes, we show that the classical chromatic numbers of these families grow exponentially with $n$, whereas their quantum chromatic numbers grow linearly. These families exhibit an exponential separation between the classical and quantum chromatic numbers.

Uniform mixing and $\epsilon$-uniform mixing on cycles

We study continuous-time quantum walks on cycles. We prove two complementary results. Firstly, the cycle $C_9$ does not admit uniform mixing at any time. Using the similar idea and Dickson polynomials, we prove that $C_{15}$ does not admit uniform mixing at any time neither. Secondly, for every prime $p$, we show that the cycle $C_{p^2}$ admits $\epsilon$-uniform mixing.

Perfect state transfer in Grover walks on dihedral Cayley graphs

The paper investigates perfect state transfer (PST) in Grover walks on Cayley graphs over the dihedral group $D_n$. The Grover walk is a discrete-time quantum walk widely studied in quantum information processing. A Cayley graph $\operatorname{Cay}(\Gamma,S)$ is called normal if $S$ is the union of some conjugacy classes of the group $\Gamma$; otherwise, it is called non-normal. Most existing studies have been restricted to Cayley graphs over abelian groups. In contrast, we investigate both normal and non-normal cases for Cayley graphs over the non-abelian group $D_n$. By examining the parity of $n$ and the normality of the Cayley graph, we obtain a complete characterization of PST on $\operatorname{Cay}(D_n,S)$. In particular, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the occurrence of PST in all possible cases, and prove that PST does not occur for normal Cayley graphs when $n$ is odd. Furthermore, we construct several infinite families of normal and non-normal Cayley graphs $\operatorname{Cay}(D_n,S)$ that exhibit PST, illustrating the application of the main result. Our approach is based on the representation theory of the dihedral group.

On the quantum chromatic number of Hamming and generalized Hadamard graphs

As a fundamental metric for quantifying quantum advantage in non-local games, the quantum chromatic number reveals the power of entanglement in distributed tasks. In this paper, we investigate this parameter for $q$-ary Hamming graphs and a generalization of Hadamard graphs. Our main results establish an exponential separation between the quantum and classical chromatic numbers for both graph families, and determine the exact quantum chromatic numbers in several regimes. Our analysis builds on known upper and lower bounds via modulus-one orthogonal representations and minimum eigenvalues, respectively. Previous results for Hamming graphs $H(n,q,d)$ were restricted to specific cases: the minimum eigenvalue was only identified for $d > (q-1)n/q$, while modulus-one orthogonal representations had only been constructed for the binary case ($q=2$) with $d \ge n/2$. In this work, we fill several gaps in the existing literature by developing a linear programming approach to construct modulus-one orthogonal representations for arbitrary relative distances, and using the trace method to determine the minimum eigenvalues in the regime where $d$ lies slightly below the threshold $(q-1)n/q$. For generalized Hadamard graphs over cyclic groups and finite fields, by determining their minimum eigenvalues, we show that the spectral lower bound matches the natural upper bound on the quantum chromatic number. On the classical side, we apply the method of forbidden intersection pattern of Frankl and R\"odl to obtain an exponential lower bound on the chromatic number, thereby quantifying the separation between the quantum and classical quantities.

The minimum distance of the antiprimitive BCH code with designed distance 3

Let $\mathcal{C}_{(q,q^m+1,3,h)}$ denote the antiprimitive BCH code with designed distance 3. In this paper, we demonstrate that the minimum distance $d$ of $\mathcal{C}_{(q,q^m+1,3,h)}$ equals 3 if and only if $\gcd(2h+1,q+1,q^m+1)\ne1$. When both $q$ and $m$ are odd, we determine the sufficient and necessary condition for $d=4$ and fully characterize the minimum distance in this case. Based on these conditions, we investigate the parameters of $\mathcal{C}_{(q,q^m+1,3,h)}$ for certain $h$. Additionally, two infinite families of distance-optimal codes and several linear codes with the best known parameters are presented.

Quantum chromatic numbers of some graphs in Hamming schemes

The study of quantum chromatic numbers of graphs is a hot research topic in recent years. However, the infinite family of graphs with known quantum chromatic numbers are rare, as far as we know, the only known such graphs (except for complete graphs, cycles, bipartite graphs and some trivial cases) are the Hadamard graphs $H_n$ with $2^n$ vertices and $n$ a multiple of $4$. In this paper, we consider the graphs in Hamming schemes, we determined the quantum chromatic numbers of one class of such graphs. Notably, this is the second known family of graphs whose quantum chromatic numbers are explicitly determined except for some cases aforementioned. We also provide some bounds for the quantum chromatic numbers of some other graphs in Hamming schemes. Consequently, we can obtain the quantum chromatic numbers of products of some graphs.

The dual codes of two families of BCH codes

In this paper, we present an infinite family of MDS codes over $\mathbb{F}_{2^s}$ and two infinite families of almost MDS codes over $\mathbb{F}_{p^s}$ for any prime $p$, by investigating the parameters of the dual codes of two families of BCH codes. Notably, these almost MDS codes include two infinite families of near MDS codes over $\mathbb{F}_{3^s}$, resolving a conjecture posed by Geng et al. in 2022. Furthermore, we demonstrate that both of these almost AMDS codes and their dual codes hold infinite families of $3$-designs over \(\mathbb{F}_{p^s}\) for any prime $p$. Additionally, we study the subfield subcodes of these families of MDS and near MDS codes, and provide several binary, ternary, and quaternary codes with best known parameters.

Infinite families of MDS and almost MDS codes from BCH codes

In this paper, the sufficient and necessary condition for the minimum distance of the BCH codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ with length $q+1$ and designed distance 3 to be 3 and 4 are provided. Let $d$ be the minimum distance of the BCH code $\mathcal{C}_{(q,q+1,3,h)}$. We prove that (1) for any $q$, $d=3$ if and only if $\gcd(2h+1,q+1)>1$; (2) for $q$ odd, $d=4$ if and only if $\gcd(2h+1,q+1)=1$. By combining these conditions with the dimensions of these codes, the parameters of this BCH code are determined completely when $q$ is odd. Moreover, several infinite families of MDS and almost MDS (AMDS) codes are shown. Furthermore, the sufficient conditions for these AMDS codes to be distance-optimal and dimension-optimal locally repairable codes are presented. Based on these conditions, several examples are also given.

A Construction of Asymptotically Optimal Cascaded CDC Schemes via Combinatorial Designs

A coded distributed computing (CDC) system aims to reduce the communication load in the MapReduce framework. Such a system has $K$ nodes, $N$ input files, and $Q$ Reduce functions. Each input file is mapped by $r$ nodes and each Reduce function is computed by $s$ nodes. The objective is to achieve the maximum multicast gain. There are known CDC schemes that achieve optimal communication load. In some prominent known schemes, however, $N$ and $Q$ grow too fast in terms of $K$, greatly reducing their gains in practical scenarios. To mitigate the situation, some asymptotically optimal cascaded CDC schemes with $r=s$ have been proposed by using symmetric designs. In this paper, we put forward new asymptotically optimal cascaded CDC schemes with $r=s$ by using $1$-designs. Compared with earlier schemes from symmetric designs, ours have much smaller computation loads while keeping the other relevant parameters the same. We also obtain new asymptotically optimal cascaded CDC schemes with more flexible parameters compared with previously best-performing schemes.

New Constructions of Mutually Orthogonal Complementary Sets and Z-Complementary Code Sets Based on Extended Boolean Functions

Mutually orthogonal complementary sets (MOCSs) and Z-complementary code sets (ZCCSs) have many applications in practical scenarios such as synthetic aperture imaging systems and multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems. With the aid of extended Boolean functions (EBFs), in this paper, we first propose a direct construction of MOCSs with flexible lengths, and then propose a new construction of ZCCSs. The proposed MOCSs cover many existing lengths and have non-power-of-two lengths when q = 2. Our presented second construction can generate optimal ZCCSs meeting the set size upper bound. Note that the proposed two constructions are direct without the aid of any special sequence, which is suitable for rapid hardware generation.

Sharper Asymptotically Optimal CDC Schemes via Combinatorial Designs

Coded distributed computing (CDC) was introduced to greatly reduce the communication load for MapReduce computing systems. Such a system has $K$ nodes, $N$ input files, and $Q$ Reduce functions. Each input file is mapped by $r$ nodes and each Reduce function is computed by $s$ nodes. The architecture must allow for coding techniques that achieve the maximum multicast gain. Some CDC schemes that achieve optimal communication load have been proposed before. The parameters $N$ and $Q$ in those schemes, however, grow too fast with respect to $K$ to be of great practical value. To improve the situation, researchers have come up with some asymptotically optimal cascaded CDC schemes with $s+r=K$ from symmetric designs. In this paper, we propose new asymptotically optimal cascaded CDC schemes. Akin to known schemes, ours have $r+s=K$ and make use of symmetric designs as construction tools. Unlike previous schemes, ours have much smaller communication loads, given the same set of parameters $K$, $r$, $N$, and $Q$. We also expand the construction tools to include almost difference sets. Using them, we have managed to construct a new asymptotically optimal cascaded CDC scheme.

A tight upper bound on the number of non-zero weights of a constacyclic code

For a simple-root $\lambda$-constacyclic code $\mathcal{C}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$, let $\langle\rho\rangle$ and $\langle\rho,M\rangle$ be the subgroups of the automorphism group of $\mathcal{C}$ generated by the cyclic shift $\rho$, and by the cyclic shift $\rho$ and the scalar multiplication $M$, respectively. Let $N_G(\mathcal{C}^\ast)$ be the number of orbits of a subgroup $G$ of automorphism group of $\mathcal{C}$ acting on $\mathcal{C}^\ast=\mathcal{C}\backslash\{0\}$. In this paper, we establish explicit formulas for $N_{\langle\rho\rangle}(\mathcal{C}^\ast)$ and $N_{\langle\rho,M\rangle}(\mathcal{C}^\ast)$. Consequently, we derive a upper bound on the number of nonzero weights of $\mathcal{C}$. We present some irreducible and reducible $\lambda$-constacyclic codes, which show that the upper bound is tight. A sufficient condition to guarantee $N_{\langle\rho\rangle}(\mathcal{C}^\ast)=N_{\langle\rho,M\rangle}(\mathcal{C}^\ast)$ is presented.

Dimensions of some LCD BCH codes

In this paper, we investigate the first few largest coset leaders modulo $\frac{q^m+1}{\lambda}$ where $\lambda\mid q+1$ and $q$ is an odd prime power, and give the dimensions of some LCD BCH codes of length $\frac{q^m+1}{\lambda}$ with large designed distances. We also determine the dimensions of some LCD BCH codes of length $n=\frac{(q^m+1)}{\lambda}$ with designed distances $2\leq \delta \leq \frac{ q^{\lfloor(m+1)/2\rfloor}}{\lambda}+1$, where $ \lambda\mid q+1$ and $1<\lambda<q+1$. The LCD BCH codes presented in this paper have a sharper lower bound on the minimum distance than the BCH bound.

Regular complete permutation polynomials over quadratic extension fields

Let $r\geq 3$ be any positive integer which is relatively prime to $p$ and $q^2\equiv 1 \pmod r$. Let $\tau_1, \tau_2$ be any permutation polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2},$ $\sigma_M$ is an invertible linear map over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ and $\sigma=\tau_1\circ\sigma_M\circ\tau_2$. In this paper, we prove that, for suitable $\tau_1, \tau_2$ and $\sigma_M$, the map $\sigma$ could be $r$-regular complete permutation polynomials over quadratic extension fields.

A general construction of regular complete permutation polynomials

Let $r\geq 3$ be a positive integer and $\mathbb{F}_q$ the finite field with $q$ elements. In this paper, we consider the $r$-regular complete permutation property of maps with the form $f=\tau\circ\sigma_M\circ\tau^{-1}$ where $\tau$ is a PP over an extension field $\mathbb{F}_{q^d}$ and $\sigma_M$ is an invertible linear map over $\mathbb{F}_{q^d}$. We give a general construction of $r$-regular PPs for any positive integer $r$. When $\tau$ is additive, we give a general construction of $r$-regular CPPs for any positive integer $r$. When $\tau$ is not additive, we give many examples of regular CPPs over the extension fields for $r=3,4,5,6,7$ and for arbitrary odd positive integer $r$. These examples are the generalization of the first class of $r$-regular CPPs constructed by Xu, Zeng and Zhang (Des. Codes Cryptogr. 90, 545-575 (2022)).

Fractional revival on abelian Cayley graphs

Fractional revival, known as a quantum transport phenomenon, is essential for entanglement generation in quantum spin networks. The concept of fractional revival is a generalization of perfect state transfer and periodicity on graphs. In this paper, we propose a sufficient and necessary condition for abelian Cayley graphs having fractional revival between any two distinct vertices. With this characterization, two general constructions of abelian Cayley graphs having fractional revival is presented. Meanwhile, we establish several new families of abelian Cayley graphs admitting fractional revival.

A new method for constructing linear codes with small hulls

The hull of a linear code over finite fields is the intersection of the code and its dual, which was introduced by Assmus and Key. In this paper, we develop a method to construct linear codes with trivial hull ( LCD codes) and one-dimensional hull by employing the positive characteristic analogues of Gauss sums. These codes are quasi-abelian, and sometimes doubly circulant. Some sufficient conditions for a linear code to be an LCD code (resp. a linear code with one-dimensional hull) are presented. It is worth mentioning that we present a lower bound on the minimum distances of the constructed linear codes. As an application, using these conditions, we obtain some optimal or almost optimal LCD codes (resp. linear codes with one-dimensional hull) with respect to the online Database of Grassl.

Perfect edge state transfer on cubelike graphs

Perfect (quantum) state transfer has been proved to be an effective model for quantum information processing. In this paper, we give a characterization of cubelike graphs having perfect edge state transfer. By using a lifting technique, we show that every bent function, and some semi-bent functions as well, can produce some graphs having PEST. Some concrete constructions of such graphs are provided. Notably, using our method, one can obtain some classes of infinite graphs possessing PEST.
