Encoding architecture algebra

Despite the wide variety of input types in machine learning, this diversity is often not fully reflected in their representations or model architectures, leading to inefficiencies throughout a model's lifecycle. This paper introduces an algebraic approach to constructing input-encoding architectures that properly account for the data's structure, providing a step toward achieving more typeful machine learning.

Notes on a non-thermal fluctuation-dissipation relation in quantum Brownian motion

We review how unitarity and stationarity in the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism naturally lead to a (quantum) generalized fluctuation-dissipation relation (gFDR) that works beyond thermal equilibrium. Non-Gaussian loop corrections are also presented. Additionally, we illustrate the application of this gFDR in various scenarios related to quantum Brownian motion and the generalized Langevin equation.

Exact D7-brane embedding in the Pilch-Warner background

A new supersymmetric D7-brane embedding in the Pilch-Warner gravitational background is found exactly, by solving the supersymmetric condition. In the dual holographic picture, our setting corresponds to adding a quenched fundamental matter sector to N=2* super Yang-Mills theory, at zero temperature. We show that previous results in the same setting are missing the Wess-Zumino term in the D-brane action, and how our results complete the picture.

Theory of diffusive fluctuations

The recently developed effective field theory of fluctuations around thermal equilibrium is used to compute late-time correlation functions of conserved densities. Specializing to systems with a single conservation law, we find that the diffusive pole is shifted in the presence of non-linear hydrodynamic self-interactions, and that the density-density Green's function acquires a branch point half way to the diffusive pole, at frequency $ω= -\frac{i}{2}Dk^2$. We discuss the relevance of diffusive fluctuations for strongly correlated transport in condensed matter and cold atomic systems.

Quantum String Test of Nonconformal Holography

We compute Lüscher corrections to the effective string tension in the Pilch-Warner background, holographically dual to $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The same quantity can be calculated directly from field theory by solving the localization matrix model at large-$N$. We find complete agreement between the field-theory predictions and explicit string-theory calculation at strong coupling.

Symmetric Wilson Loops beyond leading order

We study the circular Wilson loop in the symmetric representation of U(N) in $\mathcal{N} = 4$ super-Yang-Mills (SYM). In the large N limit, we computed the exponentially-suppressed corrections for strong coupling, which suggests non-perturbative physics in the dual holographic theory. We also computed the next-to-leading order term in 1/N, and the result matches with the exact result from the k-fundamental representation.

Higher Rank Wilson Loops in N = 2* Super-Yang-Mills Theory

The N=2* Super-Yang-Mills theory (SYM*) undergoes an infinite sequence of large-N quantum phase transitions. We compute expectation values of Wilson loops in k-symmetric and antisymmetric representations of the SU(N) gauge group in this theory and show that the same phenomenon that causes the phase transitions at finite coupling leads to a non-analytic dependence of Wilson loops on k/N when the coupling is strictly infinite, thus making the higher-representation Wilson loops ideal holographic probes of the non-trivial phase structure of SYM*.

N=2* Super-Yang-Mills Theory at Strong Coupling

The planar N=2* Super-Yang-Mills (SYM) theory is solved at large 't Hooft coupling using localization on S(4). The solution permits detailed investigation of the resonance phenomena responsible for quantum phase transitions in infinite volume, and leads to quantitative predictions for the semiclassical string dual of the N=2* theory.
