MiDashengLM-Gen: Unified Audio Scene Generation via LLM-Driven Autoregressive Flow Matching

Generating coherent audio scenes that simultaneously blend speech, music, and sound effects remains a significant challenge. Current approaches typically rely on a disjointed pipeline where a frozen, decoupled text encoder feeds a separate audio decoder, limiting cross-modal optimization and leading to poor speech intelligibility. To overcome these limitations, we introduce MiDashengLM-Gen, an end-to-end framework that couples a pre-trained Large Language Model (LLM) with per-token conditional flow matching for autoregressive, variable-length mixed-audio scene generation. MiDashengLM-Gen represents a first approach for general text-to-audio generation with one end-to-end trained model. Empirical evaluations demonstrate that MiDashengLM-Gen drastically improves speech intelligibility over existing unified models. On the Seed-TTS benchmark, English Word Error Rate (WER) drops from 12.15% to 2.79%, approaching the performance of dedicated Text-to-Speech (TTS) systems (1.24%). Furthermore, the framework extends effectively to multilingual settings, yielding highly competitive multilingual WERs compared to existing baselines. Lastly, the model maintains competitive mixed-audio generation quality on the MECAT benchmark. Dasheng AudioGen: A Unified Model for Generating Coherent Audio Scenes from Text

Audio generation has long been fragmented, with speech, music, and sound effects produced by domain-specific models that fail to jointly generate coherent audio scenes from a single description. The key obstacles are insufficient fine-grained supervision for real-world mixed audio and limited acoustic representations for modeling concurrent audio components. We present Dasheng AudioGen, a unified framework for generating general mixed-audio scenes from text. Dasheng AudioGen introduces structured multi-view captions, which explicitly decouple complex acoustic scenes into complementary description views, thereby enabling fine-grained control over audio layers. Furthermore, we employ a high-dimensional unified semantic-acoustic representation as the shared latent space. It injects semantic priors that facilitate cross-modal training convergence, while its high-dimensional feature space provides sufficient capacity to disentangle and fuse concurrent audio components effectively. With these designs, a simple flow-matching DiT achieves high-quality end-to-end audio scene generation. We also establish a comprehensive evaluation pipeline for audio scene generation. Experiments demonstrate that Dasheng AudioGen achieves performance approaching real-world recordings in mixed-audio categories, while remaining competitive with specialized models in single-type generation tasks. ACAVCaps: Enabling large-scale training for fine-grained and diverse audio understanding

General audio understanding is a fundamental goal for large audio-language models, with audio captioning serving as a cornerstone task for their development. However, progress in this domain is hindered by existing datasets, which lack the scale and descriptive granularity required to train truly versatile models. To address this gap, we introduce ACAVCaps, a new large-scale, fine-grained, and multi-faceted audio captioning dataset. Derived from the ACAV100M collection, ACAVCaps is constructed using a multi-expert pipeline that analyzes audio from diverse perspectives-including speech, music, and acoustic properties-which are then synthesized into rich, detailed descriptions by a large language model. Experimental results demonstrate that models pre-trained on ACAVCaps exhibit substantially stronger generalization capabilities on various downstream tasks compared to those trained on other leading captioning datasets. The dataset is available at https://github.com/xiaomi-research/acavcaps.

DashengTokenizer: One layer is enough for unified audio understanding and generation

This paper introduces DashengTokenizer, a continuous audio tokenizer engineered for joint use in both understanding and generation tasks. Unlike conventional approaches, which train acoustic tokenizers and subsequently integrate frozen semantic knowledge, our method inverts this paradigm: we leverage frozen semantic features and inject acoustic information. In linear evaluation across 22 diverse tasks, our method outperforms previous audio codec and audio encoder baselines by a significant margin while maintaining competitive audio reconstruction quality. Notably, we demonstrate that this acoustic injection improves performance for tasks such as speech emotion recognition, music understanding, and acoustic scene classification. We further evaluate the tokenizer's generative performance on text-to-audio (TTA), text-to-music (TTM), and speech enhancement (SE). Our approach surpasses standard variational autoencoder (VAE)-based methods on TTA and TTM tasks, while its effectiveness on SE underscores its capabilities as a general-purpose audio encoder. Finally, our results challenge the prevailing assumption that VAE-based architectures are a prerequisite for audio synthesis. MiDashengLM: Efficient Audio Understanding with General Audio Captions

Current approaches for large audio language models (LALMs) often rely on closed data sources or proprietary models, limiting their generalization and accessibility. This paper introduces MiDashengLM, a novel open audio-language model designed for efficient and comprehensive audio understanding through the use of general audio captions using our novel ACAVCaps training dataset. MiDashengLM exclusively relies on publicly available pretraining and supervised fine-tuning (SFT) datasets, ensuring full transparency and reproducibility. At its core, MiDashengLM integrates Dasheng, an open-source audio encoder, specifically engineered to process diverse auditory information effectively. Unlike previous works primarily focused on Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) based audio-text alignment, our strategy centers on general audio captions, fusing speech, sound and music information into one textual representation, enabling a holistic textual representation of complex audio scenes. Lastly, MiDashengLM provides an up to 4x speedup in terms of time-to-first-token (TTFT) and up to 20x higher throughput than comparable models. MECAT: A Multi-Experts Constructed Benchmark for Fine-Grained Audio Understanding Tasks

While large audio-language models have advanced open-ended audio understanding, they still fall short of nuanced human-level comprehension. This gap persists largely because current benchmarks, limited by data annotations and evaluation metrics, fail to reliably distinguish between generic and highly detailed model outputs. To this end, this work introduces MECAT, a Multi-Expert Constructed Benchmark for Fine-Grained Audio Understanding Tasks. Generated via a pipeline that integrates analysis from specialized expert models with Chain-of-Thought large language model reasoning, MECAT provides multi-perspective, fine-grained captions and open-set question-answering pairs. The benchmark is complemented by a novel metric: DATE (Discriminative-Enhanced Audio Text Evaluation). This metric penalizes generic terms and rewards detailed descriptions by combining single-sample semantic similarity with cross-sample discriminability. A comprehensive evaluation of state-of-the-art audio models is also presented, providing new insights into their current capabilities and limitations. Efficient Speech Enhancement via Embeddings from Pre-trained Generative Audioencoders

Recent research has delved into speech enhancement (SE) approaches that leverage audio embeddings from pre-trained models, diverging from time-frequency masking or signal prediction techniques. This paper introduces an efficient and extensible SE method. Our approach involves initially extracting audio embeddings from noisy speech using a pre-trained audioencoder, which are then denoised by a compact encoder network. Subsequently, a vocoder synthesizes the clean speech from denoised embeddings. An ablation study substantiates the parameter efficiency of the denoise encoder with a pre-trained audioencoder and vocoder. Experimental results on both speech enhancement and speaker fidelity demonstrate that our generative audioencoder-based SE system outperforms models utilizing discriminative audioencoders. Furthermore, subjective listening tests validate that our proposed system surpasses an existing state-of-the-art SE model in terms of perceptual quality.

GLAP: General contrastive audio-text pretraining across domains and languages

Contrastive Language Audio Pretraining (CLAP) is a widely-used method to bridge the gap between audio and text domains. Current CLAP methods enable sound and music retrieval in English, ignoring multilingual spoken content. To address this, we introduce general language audio pretraining (GLAP), which expands CLAP with multilingual and multi-domain abilities. GLAP demonstrates its versatility by achieving competitive performance on standard audio-text retrieval benchmarks like Clotho and AudioCaps, while significantly surpassing existing methods in speech retrieval and classification tasks. Additionally, GLAP achieves strong results on widely used sound-event zero-shot benchmarks, while simultaneously outperforming previous methods on speech content benchmarks. Further keyword spotting evaluations across 50 languages emphasize GLAP's advanced multilingual capabilities. Finally, multilingual sound and music understanding is evaluated across four languages. Compressing LSTM Networks by Matrix Product Operators

Long Short Term Memory(LSTM) models are the building blocks of many state-of-the-art natural language processing(NLP) and speech enhancement(SE) algorithms. However, there are a large number of parameters in an LSTM model. This usually consumes a large number of resources to train the LSTM model. Also, LSTM models suffer from computational inefficiency in the inference phase. Existing model compression methods (e.g., model pruning) can only discriminate based on the magnitude of model parameters, ignoring the issue of importance distribution based on the model information. Here we introduce the MPO decomposition, which describes the local correlation of quantum states in quantum many-body physics and is used to represent the large model parameter matrix in a neural network, which can compress the neural network by truncating the unimportant information in the weight matrix. In this paper, we propose a matrix product operator(MPO) based neural network architecture to replace the LSTM model. The effective representation of neural networks by MPO can effectively reduce the computational consumption of training LSTM models on the one hand, and speed up the computation in the inference phase of the model on the other hand. We compare the MPO-LSTM model-based compression model with the traditional LSTM model with pruning methods on sequence classification, sequence prediction, and speech enhancement tasks in our experiments. The experimental results show that our proposed neural network architecture based on the MPO approach significantly outperforms the pruning approach.

A Model Compression Method with Matrix Product Operators for Speech Enhancement

The deep neural network (DNN) based speech enhancement approaches have achieved promising performance. However, the number of parameters involved in these methods is usually enormous for the real applications of speech enhancement on the device with the limited resources. This seriously restricts the applications. To deal with this issue, model compression techniques are being widely studied. In this paper, we propose a model compression method based on matrix product operators (MPO) to substantially reduce the number of parameters in DNN models for speech enhancement. In this method, the weight matrices in the linear transformations of neural network model are replaced by the MPO decomposition format before training. In experiment, this process is applied to the causal neural network models, such as the feedforward multilayer perceptron (MLP) and long short-term memory (LSTM) models. Both MLP and LSTM models with/without compression are then utilized to estimate the ideal ratio mask for monaural speech enhancement. The experimental results show that our proposed MPO-based method outperforms the widely-used pruning method for speech enhancement under various compression rates, and further improvement can be achieved with respect to low compression rates. Our proposal provides an effective model compression method for speech enhancement, especially in cloud-free application.
