Cotton-SF YOLO: Learning Structural and Frequency Cues for Early Cotton Square Detection in Complex Field Environments

Cotton squares are important phenotypic indicators of the early reproductive growth of cotton, and automatic field detection of cotton squares provides an important basis for cotton growth monitoring and precision cultivation management. However, early cotton square detection in complex field environments remains insufficiently explored, as cotton squares are small, frequently occluded, easily blurred, subject to illumination variations, and exhibit low contrast against surrounding cotton leaves. To address these challenges, we propose a task-oriented framework based on YOLO26m, named Cotton-SF YOLO, for cotton square detection under natural field conditions. To improve the perception of small and irregular cotton square boundaries, we introduce Dynamic Snake Convolution into the detector, enabling adaptive extraction of deformable edge features. Furthermore, a frequency-domain feature modulation module is designed by incorporating spectral enhancement into the C2f structure, which recalibrate frequency-domain representations and strengthen discriminative edge and texture cues while reducing interference from complex cotton leaf backgrounds. Trained and evaluated on our newly constructed and annotated field dataset with manually annotated cotton squares, the proposed model achieves mAP$_{50}$, mAP$_{50:95}$, and recall values of 0.8196, 0.4942, and 0.7939, improving over the baseline YOLO26m by 1.25%, 3.45%, and 2.96%, respectively. Ablation experiments and visualization demonstrate that the best performance is achieved with the complementary effects of structural and frequency cues.

Anchored Nash inequalities and heat kernel bounds for a class of random conductance models with long-range jumps

We show anchored versions of the Nash inequality for discrete non-local divergence-form operators with degenerate weights. They allow to control the $L^{2}$-norm of a function by Dirichlet forms that are not uniformly elliptic. We then use them to provide on-diagonal heat kernel upper bounds for a class of random conductance models with degenerate jump rates allowing long-range jumps. The results are established on a class of graphs including the integer lattice and possibly correlated supercritical percolation clusters.

ToFu: A White-Box, Token-Efficient Agent Harness for Researchers

Agentic coding tools present new opportunities to transform research workflows. The performance of agent systems built depends on both large language models (LLMs) and the harness around LLMs, which is the orchestration code that determines an agent's behavior. We present ToFu, an agentic harness for researchers that reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands, and integrates with your development tools. ToFu plays a dual role in research. As a research assistant, it supports practical research workflows with superior token efficiency, lower cost, and multilingual capability compared with existing agentic harnesses. Its release under the MIT License further enables local deployment for privacy-sensitive users. As a research object, ToFu provides a white-box agentic harness that allows researchers to inspect, modify, and evaluate its orchestration logic, tool-use behavior, and harness design, while retaining strong benchmark performance and an application-level user experience.

Strategic Bargaining in Multi-Buyer Markets: Reinforcement Learning from Verifiable Rewards for LLM Negotiations

Negotiation is a fundamental strategic interaction in management science, characterized by agents attempting to reach agreements while protecting private information, such as reservation costs and hidden valuations. A prevalent yet complex scenario involves a single seller negotiating concurrently with multiple buyers, each possessing heterogeneous, private budgets. In such settings, constrained by a limited number of communication turns, the seller must balance exploring the broader market to discover the highest valuation with concentrating sufficient turns on a single target buyer to secure the best possible outcome. Our analysis reveals a significant gap in standard Large Language Models (LLMs): while these models are linguistically proficient, they fail to act as effective economic decision-makers. Specifically, they exhibit a failure to explore the buyer pool, often fixating on the current highest bid rather than strategically investigating the market to discover latent high valuations. In this paper, we propose a specialized training recipe using Reinforcement Learning from Verifiable Rewards (RLVR). By anchoring the reward function to objective economic outcomes, the strategic balance between market discovery and surplus extraction emerges natively through the learning process. Our results demonstrate that the trained seller undergoes a multi-stage strategic evolution, learning to leverage price anchoring and strategic probing to identify more profitable counterparties. The agent extracts a substantially higher surplus than frontier models by both improving its persuasive bargaining skills and consistently closing deals with high-value buyers. Finally, we show that our seller strategies generalize robustly to unseen buyer negotiation styles and budget distributions.

AppAgent: Multimodal Agents as Smartphone Users

Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have led to the creation of intelligent agents capable of performing complex tasks. This paper introduces a novel LLM-based multimodal agent framework designed to operate smartphone applications. Our framework enables the agent to operate smartphone applications through a simplified action space, mimicking human-like interactions such as tapping and swiping. This novel approach bypasses the need for system back-end access, thereby broadening its applicability across diverse apps. Central to our agent's functionality is its innovative learning method. The agent learns to navigate and use new apps either through autonomous exploration or by observing human demonstrations. This process generates a knowledge base that the agent refers to for executing complex tasks across different applications. To demonstrate the practicality of our agent, we conducted extensive testing over 50 tasks in 10 different applications, including social media, email, maps, shopping, and sophisticated image editing tools. The results affirm our agent's proficiency in handling a diverse array of high-level tasks.

Emergent Fermi polarons in Dirac materials

We investigate band-structure effects on the absorption spectra of quantum impurities in Dirac materials. We uncover the formation of novel quasiparticles -- Dirac-Fermi polarons -- emerging from the dressing of impurities by excitations near the Dirac point. These quasiparticles are remarkably robust, persisting for both attractive and repulsive interactions, and across the full range of electron and hole doping. We show that their spectroscopic signature is a generic feature of Dirac materials, accessible with established techniques in both solid-state and ultracold atomic platforms. Our results establish polaron spectroscopy as a powerful probe of Dirac points at energies far from the Fermi surface, providing direct access to band-structure effects beyond conventional approaches.

A Unified Framework for Hybrid Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Inverter Control

This paper proposes a novel unified control framework for achieving hybrid grid-forming (GFM) and grid-following (GFL) inverter operation by integrating dispatchable virtual oscillator control with reference-following synchronization. The proposed inverter control method supports multiple operating modes within a unified structure, including voltage- and frequency-following (PQ mode), voltage-forming and frequency-following (PV mode), voltage-following and frequency-forming (Qf mode), voltage- and frequency-forming (Vf mode), and a hybrid mode with mixed GFM and GFL behaviors. In particular, the proposed method achieves smooth pre-synchronization and enables seamless transitions across a spectrum of inverter operating modes by tuning a small set of continuous control parameters, rather than relying on discrete controller switching. This framework provides a flexible and physically interpretable approach for adapting inverter dynamics to varying grid conditions and operational requirements. The small-signal stability and input-output frequency-domain characteristics are further analyzed under different control parameter settings. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed unified control method are demonstrated through extensive electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experiments.

Accelerating MRI Colon Volume Measurements and Reducing Inter-Observer Variation through Automatic Segmentation and Human-in-the-Loop Correction

The movement distribution, and volume of both chyme and gas in the colon, are important metrics to understand colonic function in health, disease, and the effects of treatments and different foodstuffs. Current methods available for assessment of these colonic contents using MRI consist mainly of manual segmentation or semi-automatic segmentation. However, these methods of segmentation are very labour intensive and too slow for clinical applications, require expert knowledge and some semi-automatic methods require use of bowel preparation. MRI scans were acquired in 2 breath holds using mDIXON sequences. We used the 'No New U-Net' (nnU-Net) ML model to automatically segment the colon, including colonic regions (ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid-rectal). The ML-generated masks were corrected manually and the time taken for correction was recorded. ML segmentations were compared to both manual segmentations and observer corrected ML (CorrML) segmentations. Observer repeatability was also evaluated for both manual and CorrML methods to create a benchmark for the allowable error in the automatic segmentations. Analysis time was significantly reduced (p<0.0001) from 56 mins (+-11 mins (SD)) for manual masks to 11 mins (+-5 mins (SD)) for CorrML masks. Both DICE and ICC values showed excellent agreement between manual, ML and CorrML segmentations for whole colonic volume (ICC = 0.96) whilst regional volumes were good-excellent (ICC = 0.80-0.95). Inter-observer repeatability was improved when using CorrML methods over manual segmentation (ICC manual > 0.89, CorrML > 0.93). Analysis time was reduced by over 80% when using CorrML methods and whole colonic volumes measured by ML would be suitable for use with minimal checks. Hence the methods proposed here would be clinically useful.

Facility Location Game with Envy Ratio

We study the one-facility location game on a real line with a new objective called envy ratio. The envy ratio, which is adopted from fair division and represents the egalitarianism, is defined as the maximum over the ratios between any two agents' utilities. We are interested in strategyproof or group strategyproof mechanisms that can minimize the envy ratio objective. We consider the model in two settings that can capture natural scenarios: the facility location and all the agents' locations are restricted on a fixed interval; every agent's location can be any point on the real line but the facility location is restricted on a relative interval. In both settings, we obtain the optimal solution and the best deterministic strategyproof mechanism which is also group strategyproof. In the first setting, we provide a lower bound for randomized strategyproof mechanisms. In the second setting, we give a lower bound and two upper bounds for randomized strategyproof mechanisms.

In-Situ Polarimetry in Collimated Magneto-Infrared Spectroscopy System

Magneto-infrared spectroscopy under strong magnetic fields provides a powerful probe of Landau quantization and field-induced collective excitations, yet its full potential has long been constrained by the lack of in-situ polarization control, because the highly divergent infrared beam propagating through narrow light tubes undergoes multiple wall reflections, leading to severe polarization degradation. Here we report a collimated magneto-infrared spectroscopy system that integrates continuous in-situ polarimetry. The system employs incident and exit collimation chambers forming a Kepler type optical architecture, which converts the large-aperture FTIR output into a low-divergence beam and strongly suppresses multi-reflection trajectories inside long gold-plated light tubes, thereby enhancing both optical throughput and polarization fidelity. A remotely controlled polarization module, consisting of an automated linear polarizer and a switchable Fresnel rhomb positioned entirely outside the high-field region, enables continuous in-situ tuning between linear, circular, and arbitrary elliptical polarization states without thermal cycling, manual realignment, or breaking vacuum. Interchangeable compact focusing modules further support Faraday and Voigt geometries in both transmission and reflection experiments within a 50 mm magnet bore, providing efficient beam focusing and signal collection while maintaining polarization fidelity. The setup achieves a minimum root-mean-square noise of 0.0033%, an average noise of 0.0082%, and a linear polarization extinction ratio up to 40:1. We demonstrate the capability through continuous in-situ linear polarimetry and broadband circular polarimetry in the magneto-infrared spectroscopy of various single crystals. This platform establishes a robust experimental framework for in-situ polarization-resolved magneto-infrared spectroscopy.

High-order convergence rates of periodic homogenization for symmetric Lévy type operators

In this paper, we establish higher-order convergence rates of the periodic homogenizatio for symmetric Lévy-type operators, encompassing the subcritical $α$-stable regime, critical regime, and supercritical diffusive regime. To this end, we develop a systematic framework to decompose the contributions of the underlying jumping kernel across small, intermediate, and large spatial scales -- a strategy tailored to all the aforementioned regimes. To the best of our knowledge, this work represents the first comprehensive study of higher-order convergence rates in the homogenization of non-local operators.

Giant and Broadband Circular Dichroism from Particle-Hole Symmetry Breaking in Weyl Semimetals

Circular dichroism originates from symmetry breaking of material structure, leading to differential absorption of left- and right-circularly polarized light. However, circular dichroism in most materials is inherently weak and spectrally narrow, especially in the mid-to-far infrared. Here, we uncover giant infrared circular dichroism in the magnetic-field-forced Weyl semimetal Mn(Bi,Sb)2Te4, driven by extreme particle-hole symmetry breaking. Helicity-resolved magneto-infrared spectroscopy reveals circular dichroism exceeding 3000 mdeg (~130 mdeg/nm) with above-degree response extending over the 6-13 μm spectral range. The optical resonances are enhanced by a strong band nesting effect intrinsic to the Landau levels of type-II Weyl dispersion. A symmetry-based kp model reproduces these magneto-infrared responses and demonstrates that magnetization-induced asymmetric spin-orbit coupling generates particle-hole symmetry breaking, suppressing spin-up, parity-even wavefunction components in the valence Landau band and thereby producing pronounced optical helicity selectivity. Our findings establish particle-hole symmetry breaking as an effective route toward helicity-resolved optical control in quantum materials.

Exploring the electromagnetic properties of neutrinos at a short-baseline reactor neutrino experiment

Upcoming and present reactor neutrino experiments represent an appealing tool to probe fundamental properties in the neutrino sector. In this paper, we study the physics potential to determine the electromagnetic properties of neutrinos via electron--neutrino elastic scattering (E$ν$ES) at a short-baseline neutrino experiment. We evaluate the sensitivity to the weak mixing angle, $\sin^2θ_W$, employing antineutrinos from a nuclear reactor source. Furthermore, from the sensitivity to $\sin^2 θ_W$, we obtain bounds on the neutrino charge radius. We also present the projected sensitivity to the effective neutrino magnetic moment, $μ_ν$. Compared with other reactor neutrino measurements, this experimental configuration may set competitive limits on the electromagnetic properties of neutrinos.

Learning to Inject: Automated Prompt Injection via Reinforcement Learning

Prompt injection is a critical vulnerability in LLM agents, yet the strongest methods still rely on human red-teamers and hand-crafted prompts. Adapting automated jailbreak optimizers does not close this gap: jailbreaks shape models toward generic compliance, while prompt injection requires emitting specific tool calls with correct parameters. The success signal is binary, and randomly sampled suffixes almost never trigger it, so standard optimizers have no gradient to follow. We present AutoInject, a black-box reinforcement learning (RL) framework that learns adversarial suffixes for prompt injection. A learned comparison-based reward scores each candidate against the best suffix seen so far, turning the binary signal into a dense reward suitable for RL optimization. The framework supports both online query-based attacks and offline-trained transferable suffixes that need no utility access at deployment, and incorporates a utility objective when task-completion feedback is available. On AgentDojo, AutoInject outperforms template attacks, GCG, TAP, and adaptive attack across production models, with statistically significant improvements under McNemar's test with p<0.05. Suffixes learned by AutoInject also break Meta-SecAlign-70B, a model fine-tuned specifically to resist prompt injection, where template attacks fail outright. The results establish an automated baseline for prompt injection and expose a gap between preference-based defenses and adaptive optimization-based attackers.

Superconductivity in the pressure-amorphized topological insulator CrP$_4$

The interplay among superconductivity, magnetism, and nontrivial band topology represents one of the most compelling frontiers in condensed matter physics. The exploration of novel superconductivity in 3d transition-metal compounds, particularly the rare Cr-based systems containing strongly magnetic Cr ions, has long attracted attention owing to their unconventional pairing mechanisms that challenge conventional wisdom. Yet, Cr-based superconductors remain scarce, especially those possessing nontrivial topological character, underscoring the urgent need to uncover new members. Here we report the observation of superconductivity in pressure-amorphized Cr-based topological insulator CrP$_4$. Upon compression, CrP$_4$ undergoes an anomalous quantum phase transition from a metallic to a semiconducting-like state at around 15 GPa, driven by significant changes in the electronic structure. At approximately 70 GPa, re-metallization with superconductivity occurs alongside an irreversible amorphization. The superconducting transition temperature Tc increases monotonically with pressure, reaching 4.8 K at 141.3 GPa. Furthermore, theoretical calculations predict multiple topological phase transitions from a strong topological insulator to a trivial state and finally back to a strong topological state under pressure. Our study not only establishes CrP$_4$ as the first Cr-based amorphous superconductor but also opens a new paradigm for exploring superconducting and topological properties in amorphous materials.

Hidden Convexity in Queueing Models

We study the joint control of arrival and service rates in queueing systems with the objective of minimizing long-run expected cost minus revenue. Although the objective function is non-convex, first-order methods have been empirically observed to converge to globally optimal solutions. This paper provides a theoretical foundation for this empirical phenomenon by characterizing the optimization landscape and identifying a hidden convexity: the problem admits a convex reformulation after an appropriate change of variables. Leveraging this hidden convexity, we establish the Polyak-Lojasiewicz-Kurdyka (PLK) condition for the original control problem, which excludes spurious local minima and supports global convergence guarantees for first-order methods. Our analysis applies to a broad class of $GI/GI/1$ queueing models, including those with Gamma-distributed interarrival and service times, as well as $GI/M/1$ queues with log-concave interarrival times. As a key ingredient in the proof, we establish a new convexity property of the expected queue length under a square-root transformation of the traffic intensity.

Beyond Output Matching: Preserving Internal Geometry in NVFP4 LLM Distillation

Demand for low-precision inference, including NVFP4-based approaches, has grown as large language models are increasingly deployed in latency and cost constrained production environments. Quantization-aware distillation (QAD) helps recover accuracy lost under low bit quantization by training a quantized student to match the output distribution of a frozen higher precision teacher via a KL-divergence loss. In this work, we first provide a representation level diagnosis of QAD: output matching alone can mask internal degradation, because many intermediate activation geometries can yield similar teacher-aligned logits. Using CKA, we show that KL-only QAD can reduce layerwise representational similarity relative to the BF16 teacher, with especially severe drift in RL-post-trained models. This drift correlates with downstream bottlenecks on reasoning and coding tasks, suggesting that low bit recovery requires preserving internal geometry rather than matching outputs alone. Motivated by this finding, we propose \textbf{CKA-QAD}, a CKA-guided representational alignment method for NVFP4 QAD and low bit LLM accuracy recovery. The method adds a lightweight regularizer that preserves internal representational geometry during distillation by aligning layerwise Gram matrices through CKA. Across Nemotron 3 Nano and Qwen3-4B-Thinking-2507, CKA-QAD substantially improves representational alignment and improves downstream reasoning and coding accuracy with modest training overhead. Our findings position CKA-guided representational alignment as a practical complement to output matching for quantized LLM recovery.

Totoro$^+$: An Adaptive and Scalable Edge Federated Learning System

Federated Learning (FL) is an emerging distributed machine learning (ML) technique that enables in-situ model training and inference on decentralized edge devices. We propose Totoro$^+$, a novel scalable FL system that enables massive FL applications to run simultaneously on edge networks. The key insight is to explore a distributed hash table (DHT)-based peer-to-peer (P2P) model to re-architect the centralized FL system design into a fully decentralized one. In contrast to previous studies where many FL applications shared one centralized parameter server, Totoro$^+$ assigns a dedicated parameter server to each application. Any edge node can act as any application's coordinator, aggregator, client selector, worker (participant device), or any combination of the above, thereby radically improving scalability and adaptivity. Totoro$^+$ introduces three innovations to realize its design: a locality-aware P2P multi-ring structure, a publish/subscribe-based forest abstraction, and a game-theoretic path planning model with a guarantee of an $ε$-approximate Nash equilibrium. Real-world experiments on 500 Amazon EC2 servers show that Totoro$^+$ scales gracefully with the number of FL applications and $N$ edge nodes speeds up the total training time by $1.2\times-14.0\times$, achieves $\mathcal{O}(\log N)$ hops for model dissemination and gradient aggregation with millions of nodes, and efficiently adapts to the practical edge networks and churns.
