Robust Strange Metallicity across Attractive and Repulsive Hubbard Models

Using determinant quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we compare charge transport in the two-dimensional attractive and repulsive Hubbard models at strong coupling, $|U|/t=6$. Although the interaction with opposite signs generates qualitatively different low-energy spin, charge, and pairing correlations, both exhibit approximately linear-in-temperature resistivity over a broad intermediate- and high-temperature regime. At asymptotically high temperature this common behavior follows from the moment expansion of the conductivity, whose leading contribution is even in $U$. More strikingly, the similarity persists to temperatures well below $|U|$, where strong interaction-dependent correlations have already developed, and also irrespective of whether resistivity crosses the MIR limit. Using the Nernst--Einstein relation, we find that the common linear-in-temperature resistivity is primarily associated with an approximately Curie-like charge compressibility and weakly temperature-dependent diffusivity. The two models separate only at lower temperatures, where the attractive model develops a pronounced feature in the charge diffusivity correlated with signatures of pair formation. These results show that linear-in-temperature incoherent transport in the Hubbard model can be remarkably insensitive to the microscopic nature of the low-energy correlations. Our results suggest that transport in the incoherent regime appears insensitive to what the system will ultimately become at low temperature; the distinction between competing low-energy states becomes visible only when their characteristic correlations acquire sufficiently long spatial or temporal coherence.

A multimodal large language model for evidence-based autism spectrum disorder screening

The clinical management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) faces a bottleneck in early screening, mainly because trained specialists are scarce and conventional assessment tools are subjective. Here, we introduce ASDchat, a multimodal large language model designed for evidence-based ASD screening, which takes video, audio, and dialogue as input. ASDchat adopts a dual-branch architecture, where the decision branch generates screening probabilities and the evidence branch generates traceable, timestamped behavioral evidence aligned with standardized clinical criteria (ADOS-2). The model was trained and evaluated on a dataset of 1,035 participants from 27 sites in China, which covered typically developing (TD) children, children with ASD, and children with other disorders. For ASD versus TD, ASDchat reached an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.953 $\pm$ 0.021. On 9 held-out sites that were not used for training, the mean AUC was 0.932. Furthermore, unsupervised clustering of the behavioral dimensions split the ASD cases into six subtypes with different phenotypic profiles, and ASDchat suggests an intervention for each subtype. ASDchat provides a feasible path for large-scale, evidence-based early ASD screening in clinical practice.

Resource-Efficient Reinforcement for Reasoning Large Language Models via Dynamic One-Shot Policy Refinement

Large language models (LLMs) have exhibited remarkable performance on complex reasoning tasks, with reinforcement learning under verifiable rewards (RLVR) emerging as a principled framework for aligning model behavior with reasoning chains. Despite its promise, RLVR remains prohibitively resource-intensive, requiring extensive reward signals and incurring substantial rollout costs during training. In this work, we revisit the fundamental question of data and compute efficiency in RLVR. We first establish a theoretical lower bound on the sample complexity required to unlock reasoning capabilities, and empirically validate that strong performance can be achieved with a surprisingly small number of training instances. To tackle the computational burden, we propose Dynamic One-Shot Policy Refinement (DoPR), an uncertainty-aware RL strategy that dynamically selects a single informative training sample per batch for policy updates, guided by reward volatility and exploration-driven acquisition. DoPR reduces rollout overhead by nearly an order of magnitude while preserving competitive reasoning accuracy, offering a scalable and resource-efficient solution for LLM post-training. This approach offers a practical path toward more efficient and accessible RL-based training for reasoning-intensive LLM applications.

An Hydrodynamic-Instabililty Based Approach towards the Oscillation and Coupling of Candle Flames

Oscillation can be observed in candle flames under certain circumstances. This research theoretically proposed an hydrodynamic-instability-based approach towards the oscillation and coupling of candle flames, claiming that the visible flame is part of a jet flow undergoing three stages: laminar, wave, and turbulence. In the ordinary stable combustion the visible flame is in the laminar stage, while under these oscillating circumstances it is in the surface wave stage. In-phase coupling was explained as two jet flows merging into one, and anti-phase coupling occur when mergence becomes unavailable. The Schlieren image experiments, frequency measuring experiments and some "disturbance" experiments were conducted to support this view. Mathematical models were also proposed for description.

Theoretical and Experimental Investigation into the Branched Flow Phenomenon of Light

Branched flow can be observed when a laser beam is coupled into a soap film. This research theoretically explored the phenomenon through analogy between light wave and particles in form of Hamilton-Jacobian equation, further discussed the shape and statistics of the branched flow with Fokker-Plank equation and experimentally adopted the methods of interference imaging, computer image processing and so on to obtain the experiment data that could prove previously deduced scaling law concerning the statistical properties of the branched flow.

Deep learning-based GTV contouring modeling inter- and intra- observer variability in sarcomas

Background and purpose: The delineation of the gross tumor volume (GTV) is a critical step for radiation therapy treatment planning. The delineation procedure is typically performed manually which exposes two major issues: cost and reproducibility. Delineation is a time-consuming process that is subject to inter- and intra-observer variability. While methods have been proposed to predict GTV contours, typical approaches ignore variability and therefore fail to utilize the valuable confidence information offered by multiple contours. Materials and methods: In this work we propose an automatic GTV contouring method for soft-tissue sarcomas from X-ray computed tomography (CT) images, using deep learning by integrating inter- and intra-observer variability in the learned model. Sixty-eight patients with soft tissue and bone sarcomas were considered in this evaluation, all underwent pre-operative CT imaging used to perform GTV delineation. Four radiation oncologists and radiologists performed three contouring trials each for all patients. We quantify variability by defining confidence levels based on the frequency of inclusion of a given voxel into the GTV and use a deep convolutional neural network to learn GTV confidence maps. Results: Results were compared to confidence maps from the four readers as well as ground-truth consensus contours established jointly by all readers. The resulting continuous Dice score between predicted and true confidence maps was 87% and the Hausdorff distance was 14 mm. Conclusion: Results demonstrate the ability of the proposed method to predict accurate contours while utilizing variability and as such it can be used to improve clinical workflow.

VirusBoxing: A HIIT-based VR boxing game

Physical activity or exercise can improve people's health and reduce their risk of developing several diseases; most importantly, regular activity can improve the quality of life. However, lack of time is one of the major barriers for people doing exercise. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) can reduce the time required for a healthy exercise regime but also bring similar benefits of regular exercise. We present a boxing-based VR exergame called VirusBoxing to promote physical activity for players. VirusBoxing provides players with a platform for HIIT and empowers them with additional abilities to jab a distant object without the need to aim at it precisely. In this paper, we discuss how we adapted the HIIT protocol and gameplay features to empower players in a VR exergame to give players an efficient, effective, and enjoyable exercise experience.
