StepAudio 3 Realtime Technical Report

Realtime spoken interaction demands deep reasoning, prompt responses, and fluid turn-taking. We present StepAudio 3 Realtime, an audio-language foundation model organized around a continuous listen-converse-think-act loop. Deep Perception captures rich acoustic cues to interpret user intent, while Seamless Duplex models synchronized audio streams to handle pauses, backchannels, and interruptions naturally. Crucially, we resolve the tension between deep deliberation and latency via Think-While-Speaking, executing private reasoning in parallel with spoken delivery. In reasoning mode, StepAudio 3 reaches a 73.0 macro average on StepAudioChat. With Think-While-Speaking, it achieves dialogue and reasoning performance comparable to dedicated reasoning models while speaking in real time. Furthermore, an integrated Voice Agent handles asynchronous tool execution without disrupting the dialogue flow. StepAudio 3 Realtime achieves top-tier performance across key dimensions: an exceptional 90.6 on the MMSU benchmark, 98.9 Overall on the Artificial Analysis Full-Duplex Bench, and a 56.0% macro task-success rate on $τ$-Voice.

CapTalk: Unified Voice Design for Single-Utterance and Dialogue Speech Generation

Voice design from natural language descriptions is emerging as a new task in text-to-speech multimodal generation, aiming to synthesize speech with target timbre and speaking style without relying on reference audio. However, existing methods mainly focus on single-utterance generation, leaving conversational voice design largely unexplored. In this work, we extend voice design to dialogue, enabling better target speaker modeling and turn-level expressive control in natural conversational settings. We propose CapTalk, a unified caption-conditioned text-audio autoregressive framework for both single-utterance and dialogue voice design. CapTalk uses utterance-level captions for single-utterance voice design and speaker-level captions for dialogue speaker modeling, and further introduces a CoT control sequence in dialogue to explicitly plan turn-level dynamic attributes. To resolve the conflict between stable timbre preservation and context-adaptive expression, we propose a hierarchical variational conditioning module with an utterance-level speaker encoder to better balance stable timbre preservation and context-adaptive expression. This enables timbre reuse while keeping expression adaptive to the current utterance and, in dialogue, the surrounding context. We also build a comprehensive evaluation protocol for both single-utterance and dialogue settings. Experiments show that CapTalk achieves state-of-the-art performance on a single-utterance voice design benchmark and delivers better expression controllability and contextual appropriateness in multi-turn dialogue. GAIS: Frame-Level Gated Audio-Visual Integration with Semantic Variance-Scaled Perturbation for Text-Video Retrieval

Text-to-video retrieval requires precise alignment between language and temporally rich audio-video signals. However, existing methods often emphasize visual cues while underutilizing audio semantics or relying on coarse fusion strategies, resulting in suboptimal multimodal representations. We introduce GAIS, a retrieval framework that strengthens multimodal alignment from both representation and regularization perspectives. First, a Frame-level Gated Fusion (FGF) module adaptively integrates audio-visual features under textual guidance, enabling fine-grained temporal selection of informative frames. Second, a Semantic Variance-Scaled Perturbation (SVSP) mechanism regularizes the text embedding space by controlling perturbation magnitude in a semantics-aware manner. These two modules are complementary: FGF minimizes modality gaps through selective fusion, while SVSP improves embedding stability and discrimination. Extensive experiments on MSR-VTT, DiDeMo, LSMDC, and VATEX demonstrate that GAIS consistently outperforms strong baselines across multiple retrieval metrics while maintaining notable computational efficiency.
