First Evidence for an Unambiguous Triangle Singularity from $\psi(2S) \to p\bar{p}\eta$

Triangle singularities, predicted by Landau in 1959, are purely kinematic enhancements arising from hadronic rescattering loops. Despite their proposed role in various anomalous decay processes and exotic hadron candidates, a direct experimental confirmation has remained elusive for more than six decades. We analyze the $p\eta/\bar{p}\eta$ invariant mass spectrum in $\psi(2S) \to p\bar{p}\eta$ measured by the BESIII Collaboration. The data exhibit a clear cusp-like structure around 1.564~GeV in the $N(1535)$ region, in precise agreement with the kinematic position predicted for the triangle singularity. Including the triangle singularity loop in the fit substantially improves the description of the data, with $\chi^2/\mathrm{d.o.f.}$ decreasing from 1.22 to 0.90, corresponding to a significance of $\sim 3.8\sigma$ for the triangle singularity contribution. The precise alignment of the observed excess with the predicted kinematic position provides the first compelling evidence for the triangle singularity effect.

Antineutron reconstruction in electromagnetic calorimeters with mixed-representation learning

A long-standing bottleneck in GeV-scale accelerator experiments lies in reconstructing long-lived neutral hadrons in conventional electromagnetic calorimeters (ECALs), where hadron--nucleus interactions fall outside the detector's native response regime. In this paper, we develop a physics-inspired representation approach for antineutron reconstruction using a large corpus of real collision data. Motivated by two distinct energy deposition patterns from the penetrating high energy antineutrons in ECALs, we propose a Mixed-representation Calorimetric Network (MrCAL) that integrates complementary visual and sequential representation branches within a unified object-detection architecture. This architecture jointly predicts particle identity, momentum direction, and momentum magnitude. Our approach improves the precision of antineutron momentum-direction reconstruction by up to 96% and, for the first time, enables direct measurement of momentum magnitude solely from ECAL readouts, achieving a momentum resolution of approximately 17% at 1 GeV/c. The model maintains robust performance through comprehensive generalization tests spanning a wide variety of physics processes and background environments. This work unlocks a novel measurement capability for legacy ECAL systems at large experimental facilities, broadening their scientific scope via innovative final-state neutral-hadron detection.

Hyperon-Nucleon Spectrometer

Chirality lies at the heart of low-energy QCD, governing the symmetry structure that shapes hadron masses and strong interaction dynamics. Among the most compelling open questions tied to chiral dynamics and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking is the longstanding $\Lambda$ polarization puzzle, in which $\Lambda$ hyperons produced in unpolarized hadronic collisions exhibit a surprisingly large transverse polarization that remains theoretically unexplained. This whitepaper presents the proposal for the Hyperon-Nucleon Spectrometer (H-NS) at the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF). Leveraging the high energy and high intensity of HIAF's proton and heavy-ion beams, the H-NS experiment will perform systematic studies of hyperon polarization phenomena and their underlying mechanisms in proton-proton ($pp$), proton-nucleus ($pA$), and nucleus-nucleus ($AA$) collisions in the fixed target mode. A wide-range beam energy scan, including proton beams from 3 GeV up to 9.3 GeV (HIAF) and up to 32 GeV (upgraded HIAF), will be conducted to examine the dependence of polarization on collision energy. The spectrometer is designed with specialized detectors capable of high-precision reconstruction of final-state baryon polarizations. Among its many interesting and important measurements, H-NS will simultaneously measure hyperon and proton spin observables to explore the polarization mechanism in hadronic interactions and the spin structure of baryons. Furthermore, the use of $pA$ and $AA$ collisions will enable detailed investigations of cold and hot nuclear matter effects on spin polarization. Its physics program and detector development will significantly benefit the future Electron-ion Collider in China.

Vision Calorimeter for High-Energy Particle Detection

In high-energy physics, estimating anti-neutron parameters (position and momentum) using the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMC) is crucial but challenging. To conquer this challenge, we propose Vision Calorimeter (ViC), a framework that migrates visual object detectors to analyze particle images. The motivation lies in introducing a physics-inspired heat-conduction operator (HCO) into the detector's backbone and head to handle the discrete and sparse patterns of these images. Implemented via the Discrete Cosine Transform, HCO extracts frequency-domain features, bridging the distribution gap between natural and particle images. Experiments demonstrate that ViC significantly outperforms conventional methods, reducing the incident position prediction error by 46.16% (from 17.31{\deg} to 9.32{\deg}) and providing the first baseline result with an incident momentum regression error of 21.48%. This study underscores ViC's great potential as a reliable particle detector for high-energy physics. Code is available at https://github.com/yuhongtian17/ViC.

Experimental overview on the charmed baryon decays

The charmed baryon was first observed experimentally in 1975, one year after the charm quark's confirmation via the discovery of the $J/\psi$ particle. Studying charmed baryon decays provides a pathway to investigate both strong and weak interactions, leveraging the weak decays of the embedded charm quark. However, for approximately three decades following its discovery, experimental knowledge of charmed baryons remained significantly limited compared to those of the hidden-charm $\psi$ mesons and open-charm $D_{(s)}$ mesons. This situation changed markedly starting in 2014, when dedicated data collection for charmed baryons commenced at BESIII. In this article, we review the experimental progress achieved since 2014 in understanding the weak decays of the charmed baryons.

Prospects for $P$ and $C\!P$ violation in $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ decays with polarized beam at Super Tau-Charm Facility

Weak decays of the charmed baryons offer an ideal platform to study parity ($P$) and charge conjugation-parity ($C\!P$) violation in quark sector, to stringently test the Standard Model and search for new physics. It is a key goal in the next-generation positron-electron collider, such as the Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF). Thanks to the quantum-entangled pair production with super high luminosity and the possibility of beam polarization, STCF provides a unique environment to probe such symmetry violations with unprecedented sensitivity. In this paper, we evaluate the precisions of the $P$-violating parameters and subsequently obtain the expected sensitivity of the $C\!P$-violating parameters in charmed baryon decays of $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to p\pi^0$, $p\eta$, $\Lambda K^+$, $\Sigma^0 K^+$, and $\Sigma^+ K^0_S$, regarding to different polarization setups in STCF. The study suggests that the implementation of longitudinal beam polarization in STCF would greatly enhance the experimental capability in studying $P$ and $C\!P$ violation.

Could an axion-like particle be hidden in $\eta_c\to\gamma\gamma$?

We discuss the possibility of an axion-like particle being merged in the recent observation of $\eta_c \to \gamma\gamma$ at BESIII and find that it cannot be excluded in the current experimental data. The mass, width, and coupling strengths of the axion-like particle are extracted, and several other channels to confirm or exclude the existence of such an axion-like particle are also discussed.

CP violation studies at Super Tau-Charm Facility

Charge-parity ($C\!P$) violation in the tau-charm energy region is a promising area for sensitive tests of Standard Model (SM) predictions and searches for new, beyond the SM physics. A future Tau-Charm Facility that operates at center-of-mass energies between 2.0 and 7.0 GeV, with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times10^{35}$~cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, would provide huge numbers of hadrons and tau ($\tau$) leptons that are produced in low-background environments and with well understood kinematic properties. In this report, prospects for unique studies of $C\!P$ violation in the decay of charmed hadrons, and in the production and decay of hyperons and $\tau$ leptons at a next-generation tau-charm facility are discussed. In addition, opportunities for improved tests of $CPT$ invariance test in $K^{0}-\bar{K}^{0}$ mixing are presented.

Remarks on strong phase shifts in weak nonleptonic baryon decays

A sizable strong-interaction phase shift in weak two-body nonleptonic baryon decay would enhance the possibility of discovering charge-conjugation parity ($CP$) violation in the baryon sector, which might help in the quest for understanding the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. Over the past 60 years, empirical analyses involving different types of instruments, including fixed-target experiments and $e^+e^-$ colliders, have indicated that the phase shifts in nonleptonic hyperon decays are relatively small, below order ten degrees in size. A large phase shift, however, has been observed by BESIII in the decay of a charmed baryon into a hyperon and kaon, $\Lambda_c^+\to \Xi^0K^+$. In various experimental and theoretical studies on hyperon, charmed-baryon, and bottomed-baryon decays, different conventions have been adopted for defining the strong phases. It is important to be aware of this situation when obtaining global averages from different measurements and applying the results to future investigations on $CP$ violation among baryons. This paper gives an overview of the conventions employed in the literature for the strong phases and suggests a unified parameterization form applicable to the different alternatives. Numerical results under the unified parameterization form are also provided, which can serve as useful inputs to further pursuits of baryon $CP$ violation.

Vision Calorimeter for Anti-neutron Reconstruction: A Baseline

In high-energy physics, anti-neutrons ($\bar{n}$) are fundamental particles that frequently appear as final-state particles, and the reconstruction of their kinematic properties provides an important probe for understanding the governing principles. However, this confronts significant challenges instrumentally with the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMC), a typical experimental sensor but recovering the information of incident $\bar{n}$ insufficiently. In this study, we introduce Vision Calorimeter (ViC), a baseline method for anti-neutron reconstruction that leverages deep learning detectors to analyze the implicit relationships between EMC responses and incident $\bar{n}$ characteristics. Our motivation lies in that energy distributions of $\bar{n}$ samples deposited in the EMC cell arrays embody rich contextual information. Converted to 2-D images, such contextual energy distributions can be used to predict the status of $\bar{n}$ ($i.e.$, incident position and momentum) through a deep learning detector along with pseudo bounding boxes and a specified training objective. Experimental results demonstrate that ViC substantially outperforms the conventional reconstruction approach, reducing the prediction error of incident position by 42.81% (from 17.31$^{\circ}$ to 9.90$^{\circ}$). More importantly, this study for the first time realizes the measurement of incident $\bar{n}$ momentum, underscoring the potential of deep learning detectors for particle reconstruction. Code is available at https://github.com/yuhongtian17/ViC.

Charm Physics at the Super $\tau$-Charm Factory

The high-luminosity Super $\tau$-Charm Factory (STCF) will be a crucial facility for charm-physics research, particularly for the precise measurement of electroweak parameters, measuring $D^0$-$\bar{D}^0$ mixing parameters, investigating Charge-Parity (CP) violation within the charm sector, searching for the rare and forbidden decays of charmed hadrons, and addressing other foundational questions related to charmed hadrons. With the world's largest charm-threshold data, the STCF aims to achieve high sensitivity in studying the strong phase of neutral $D$ mesons using quantum correlation, complementing studies at LHCb and Belle II, and contributing to the understanding of CP violations globally. The STCF will also enable world-leading precision in measuring the leptonic decays of charmed mesons and baryons, providing constraints on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and strong-force dynamics. Additionally, the STCF will explore charmed hadron spectroscopy. The advanced detector and clean experimental environment of the STCF will enable unprecedented precision, help address key challenges in the Standard Model, and facilitate the search for potential new physics.

Study of the Standard Model with weak decays of charmed hadrons at BESIII

A comprehensive review of weak decays of charmed hadrons ($D^{0/+}$, $D^+_s$ and $\Lambda^+_c$) based on analyses of the threshold data from $e^+e^-$ annihilation in the BESIII experiment is presented. Current experimental challenges and successes in understanding decays of the charmed hadrons are discussed. Precise calibrations of QCD and tests of the Standard Model are provided by measurements of purely leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of charmed hadrons, and lepton universality is probed in purely leptonic decays of charmed mesons to three generations of leptons. Quantum correlations in threshold data samples provide access to strong phases in the neutral $D$ meson decays and probe the decay dynamics of the charmed $\Lambda_c$ baryon. Charm physics studies with near-threshold production of charmed particle pairs are unique to BESIII, and provide many important opportunities and challenges.

Charmed baryon decay asymmetry in e+e- annihilation

We propose to measure the decay asymmetry parameters in the hadronic weak decays of singly charmed baryons, such as $\ldc\to\ld\pi^+,\Sigma^0\pi^+,p \bar K_0$, $\Xi_c^0\to\Xi^-\pi^+$ and $\Omega_c^0\to\Omega^-\pi^+$. The joint angular formulae for these processes are presented, and are used to extract the asymmetry parameters in $\ee$ annihilation data. Base on the current $\ldc$ data set collected at BESIII, we estimate the experimental sensitivities to measure the parameters $\alpha_{\ld\pi^+}$ for $\ldc\to\ld\pi^+$, $\alpha_{\Sigma^+\pi^0}$ for $\ldc\to\Sigma^+\pi^0$ and $\alpha_{\usig\pi^+}$ for $\ldc\to\usig\pi^+$.

Study of a sealed high gas pressure THGEM detector and response of Alpha particle spectra

A sealed high gas pressure detector working in pure argon is assembled. It consists of a 5 cm $\times$ 5 cm PCB THGEM (THick Gaseous Electron Multipliers). The detector structure and experimental setup are described. The performances under high pressure of 2 atm mainly consist in selecting optimal voltages for ionization region and induction region. The dependence of the shape of Alpha particle spectra measured with relative gas gain on gas pressure (1.3 $\sim$ 2.0 atm) has been studied. The 8 groups of relative gas gain versus working voltage of THGEM expressed by weighting filed $E/P$ are normalized, being consistent with theory. The results show that the air tightness of the chamber is good measured by a sensitive barometer and checked with gas gain. The experimental results are compared with Monte Carlo simulation on energy deposition without gas gain involved.

Radiation Studies for the Target Station of the MOMENT

The discovery of the neutrino mixing angle $\theta_{13}$ opens new opportunities for the discovery of the leptonic CP violation for high intensity neutrino beams. MOMENT a future neutrino facility with a high-power proton beam of 15 MW from a continuous-wave linac is focused on that discovery. The high power of the proton beam causes extreme radiation conditions for the facility and especially for the target station where the pion capture system of five superconducting solenoids is located. In this paper initial studies are performed for the effects of the radiation on the solenoid structure and the area surrounding it. A concept cooling system is also proposed.

Combined estimation for multi-measurements of branching ratio

A maximum likelihood method is used to deal with the combined estimation of multi-measurements of a branching ratio, where each result can be presented as an upper limit. The joint likelihood function is constructed using observed spectra of all measurements and the combined estimate of the branching ratio is obtained by maximizing the joint likelihood function. The Bayesian credible interval, or upper limit of the combined branching ratio, is given in cases both with and without inclusion of systematic error.
