Highly reliable, ultra-wideband, isolator-free quantum-dot mode-locked frequency combs for optical interconnects beyond 3.2Tb/s

Quantum dot mode-locked laser-based optical frequency combs are emerging as a critical solution for achieving low-cost, high-efficiency, and large-capacity optical interconnects. The practical implementation of wavelength division multiplexing interconnects necessitates a temperature-stable OFC source with a minimum 100 GHz channel spacing to enable high-bandwidth modulation while mitigating the complexity of optical filtering and detection. By leveraging the advanced co-doping technique and a colliding pulse mode-locking scheme, here, we report a compact, ultra-wideband, highly reliable, isolator-free 100 GHz-spacing InAs/GaAs QD OFC source operating up to a record temperature of 140 °C. The comb source delivers a record 3 dB optical bandwidth of 14.312 nm, containing flat-top comb lines, each supporting 128 Gb/s PAM-4 modulation, which results in a total throughput of 3.328 Tb/s with an extremely low power consumption of 0.394 pJ/bit at 25°C. Performance remains stable at 85 °C, with negligible degradation of device critical metrics. Remarkably, accelerated aging tests under harsh conditions (85 °C with 8x threshold current injection) revealed a mean time to failure of approximately 207 years. The QD OFC source demonstrated in this work, for the first time, establishes a concrete link between fundamental research on comb sources and their practical deployment in next-generation, high-density optical interconnect systems.

Describe Anything in Medical Images

Localized image captioning has made significant progress with models like the Describe Anything Model (DAM), which can generate detailed region-specific descriptions without explicit region-text supervision. However, such capabilities have yet to be widely applied to specialized domains like medical imaging, where diagnostic interpretation relies on subtle regional findings rather than global understanding. To mitigate this gap, we propose MedDAM, the first comprehensive framework leveraging large vision-language models for region-specific captioning in medical images. MedDAM employs medical expert-designed prompts tailored to specific imaging modalities and establishes a robust evaluation benchmark comprising a customized assessment protocol, data pre-processing pipeline, and specialized QA template library. This benchmark evaluates both MedDAM and other adaptable large vision-language models, focusing on clinical factuality through attribute-level verification tasks, thereby circumventing the absence of ground-truth region-caption pairs in medical datasets. Extensive experiments on the VinDr-CXR, LIDC-IDRI, and SkinCon datasets demonstrate MedDAM's superiority over leading peers (including GPT-4o, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, LLaMA-3.2 Vision, Qwen2.5-VL, GPT-4Rol, and OMG-LLaVA) in the task, revealing the importance of region-level semantic alignment in medical image understanding and establishing MedDAM as a promising foundation for clinical vision-language integration.

Beyond Editing Pairs: Fine-Grained Instructional Image Editing via Multi-Scale Learnable Regions

Current text-driven image editing methods typically follow one of two directions: relying on large-scale, high-quality editing pair datasets to improve editing precision and diversity, or exploring alternative dataset-free techniques. However, constructing large-scale editing datasets requires carefully designed pipelines, is time-consuming, and often results in unrealistic samples or unwanted artifacts. Meanwhile, dataset-free methods may suffer from limited instruction comprehension and restricted editing capabilities. Faced with these challenges, the present work develops a novel paradigm for instruction-driven image editing that leverages widely available and enormous text-image pairs, instead of relying on editing pair datasets. Our approach introduces a multi-scale learnable region to localize and guide the editing process. By treating the alignment between images and their textual descriptions as supervision and learning to generate task-specific editing regions, our method achieves high-fidelity, precise, and instruction-consistent image editing. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach attains state-of-the-art performance across various tasks and benchmarks, while exhibiting strong adaptability to various types of generative models.

TWIG: Two-Step Image Generation using Segmentation Masks in Diffusion Models

In today's age of social media and marketing, copyright issues can be a major roadblock to the free sharing of images. Generative AI models have made it possible to create high-quality images, but concerns about copyright infringement are a hindrance to their abundant use. As these models use data from training images to generate new ones, it is often a daunting task to ensure they do not violate intellectual property rights. Some AI models have even been noted to directly copy copyrighted images, a problem often referred to as source copying. Traditional copyright protection measures such as watermarks and metadata have also proven to be futile in this regard. To address this issue, we propose a novel two-step image generation model inspired by the conditional diffusion model. The first step involves creating an image segmentation mask for some prompt-based generated images. This mask embodies the shape of the image. Thereafter, the diffusion model is asked to generate the image anew while avoiding the shape in question. This approach shows a decrease in structural similarity from the training image, i.e. we are able to avoid the source copying problem using this approach without expensive retraining of the model or user-centered prompt generation techniques. This makes our approach the most computationally inexpensive approach to avoiding both copyright infringement and source copying for diffusion model-based image generation.

Fully Integrated Vacuum-based Quantum Random Number Generator

Quantum random number generators play a crucial role in securing high-demand information contexts by producing true random numbers. Nevertheless, the large volume and high-cost limit their widespread use. Here, we propose a system on chip that fully leverages the advantages of different photonic integrated platforms, where the interference optical paths and photodiodes are integrated on a standard silicon process, while the laser source on-chip is realized on a III-V platform. Using micro-lens coupling package technology, which contributes to a topnotch coupling loss lower than 2dB, the components on different platforms are combined and packaged with the amplifier circuits in a 42mm* 24mm footprint in a butterfly form. This complete miniaturized and cost-effective entropy source enables outputting a vacuum noise signal with a 3dB bandwidth of over 500MHz. After sampling and post-processing, a random number generation rate of up to 6.57Gbps is achieved. The results show a feasible way of overcoming the laser integration problem with silicon-based integrated quantum photonics. Foreseeable, commercial applications on a large scale are significantly promoted.

Seamless Optical Cloud Computing across Edge-Metro Network for Generative AI

The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has profoundly reshaped modern lifestyles, necessitating a revolutionary architecture to support the growing demands for computational power. Cloud computing has become the driving force behind this transformation. However, it consumes significant power and faces computation security risks due to the reliance on extensive data centers and servers in the cloud. Reducing power consumption while enhancing computational scale remains persistent challenges in cloud computing. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical cloud computing system that can be seamlessly deployed across edge-metro network. By modulating inputs and models into light, a wide range of edge nodes can directly access the optical computing center via the edge-metro network. The experimental validations show an energy efficiency of 118.6 mW/TOPs (tera operations per second), reducing energy consumption by two orders of magnitude compared to traditional electronic-based cloud computing solutions. Furthermore, it is experimentally validated that this architecture can perform various complex generative AI models through parallel computing to achieve image generation tasks.

Photonic logic tensor computing beyond TOPS per core

The soaring demand for computing resources has spurred great interest in photonic computing with higher speed and larger computing capacity. Photonic logic gates are of crucial importance due to the fundamental role of Boolean logic in modern digital computing systems. However, most photonic logic schemes struggle to exhibit the capability of massively parallel processing and flexible reconfiguration, owing to weak and fixed nonlinearity in optical elements. Here, we propose a photonic logic tensor computing architecture for the first time and fabricate the photonic universal logic tensor core (PULTC) with a parallel logic computing capacity beyond TOPS. Ten wavelength channels and four spatial channels are designed in PULTC, where the logic computing speed in each channel can reach 50 Gbit/s. After the nonlinear mapping of microring modulators, arbitrary logic operations can be achieved by configuring the Mach-Zehnder interferometer mesh. Our work offers an innovative route for photonic universal logic computing with high-parallel capability and propels the practical applications of photonic logic computing.

4D Multimodal Co-attention Fusion Network with Latent Contrastive Alignment for Alzheimer's Diagnosis

Multimodal neuroimaging provides complementary structural and functional insights into both human brain organization and disease-related dynamics. Recent studies demonstrate enhanced diagnostic sensitivity for Alzheimer's disease (AD) through synergistic integration of neuroimaging data (e.g., sMRI, fMRI) with behavioral cognitive scores tabular data biomarkers. However, the intrinsic heterogeneity across modalities (e.g., 4D spatiotemporal fMRI dynamics vs. 3D anatomical sMRI structure) presents critical challenges for discriminative feature fusion. To bridge this gap, we propose M2M-AlignNet: a geometry-aware multimodal co-attention network with latent alignment for early AD diagnosis using sMRI and fMRI. At the core of our approach is a multi-patch-to-multi-patch (M2M) contrastive loss function that quantifies and reduces representational discrepancies via geometry-weighted patch correspondence, explicitly aligning fMRI components across brain regions with their sMRI structural substrates without one-to-one constraints. Additionally, we propose a latent-as-query co-attention module to autonomously discover fusion patterns, circumventing modality prioritization biases while minimizing feature redundancy. We conduct extensive experiments to confirm the effectiveness of our method and highlight the correspondance between fMRI and sMRI as AD biomarkers.

Tailoring Adversarial Attacks on Deep Neural Networks for Targeted Class Manipulation Using DeepFool Algorithm

The susceptibility of deep neural networks (DNNs) to adversarial attacks undermines their reliability across numerous applications, underscoring the necessity for an in-depth exploration of these vulnerabilities and the formulation of robust defense strategies. The DeepFool algorithm by Moosavi-Dezfooli et al. (2016) represents a pivotal step in identifying minimal perturbations required to induce misclassification of input images. Nonetheless, its generic methodology falls short in scenarios necessitating targeted interventions. Additionally, previous research studies have predominantly concentrated on the success rate of attacks without adequately addressing the consequential distortion of images, the maintenance of image quality, or the confidence threshold required for misclassification. To bridge these gaps, we introduce the Enhanced Targeted DeepFool (ET DeepFool) algorithm, an evolution of DeepFool that not only facilitates the specification of desired misclassification targets but also incorporates a configurable minimum confidence score. Our empirical investigations demonstrate the superiority of this refined approach in maintaining the integrity of images and minimizing perturbations across a variety of DNN architectures. Unlike previous iterations, such as the Targeted DeepFool by Gajjar et al. (2022), our method grants unparalleled control over the perturbation process, enabling precise manipulation of model responses. Preliminary outcomes reveal that certain models, including AlexNet and the advanced Vision Transformer, display commendable robustness to such manipulations. This discovery of varying levels of model robustness, as unveiled through our confidence level adjustments, could have far-reaching implications for the field of image recognition. CIBR: Cross-modal Information Bottleneck Regularization for Robust CLIP Generalization

Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) has achieved remarkable success in cross-modal tasks such as zero-shot image classification and text-image retrieval by effectively aligning visual and textual representations. However, the theoretical foundations underlying CLIP's strong generalization remain unclear. In this work, we address this gap by proposing the Cross-modal Information Bottleneck (CIB) framework. CIB offers a principled interpretation of CLIP's contrastive learning objective as an implicit Information Bottleneck optimization. Under this view, the model maximizes shared cross-modal information while discarding modality-specific redundancies, thereby preserving essential semantic alignment across modalities. Building on this insight, we introduce a Cross-modal Information Bottleneck Regularization (CIBR) method that explicitly enforces these IB principles during training. CIBR introduces a penalty term to discourage modality-specific redundancy, thereby enhancing semantic alignment between image and text features. We validate CIBR on extensive vision-language benchmarks, including zero-shot classification across seven diverse image datasets and text-image retrieval on MSCOCO and Flickr30K. The results show consistent performance gains over standard CLIP. These findings provide the first theoretical understanding of CLIP's generalization through the IB lens. They also demonstrate practical improvements, offering guidance for future cross-modal representation learning.

Visual Variational Autoencoder Prompt Tuning

Parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) has emerged as a crucial approach for adapting large vision transformers to downstream tasks without the prohibitive computational costs of full fine-tuning. While existing visual prompt tuning (VPT) methods have made significant strides, they predominantly rely on static, domain-specific prompts that fail to capture the rich visual diversity within individual instances. This paper introduces V$^2$APT (Visual Variational Autoencoder Prompt Tuning), a novel framework that generates dynamic, input-dependent prompts using a variational autoencoder architecture. By learning a latent representation of image-specific features and decoding them into customized prompts, V$^2$APT adapts to the unique visual characteristics of each input. Extensive experiments on FGVC, HTA, and VTAB-1k benchmarks demonstrate that our approach consistently outperforms state-of-the-art PEFT methods. Notably, V$^2$APT achieves +3.2\% improvement over VPT-Deep on HTA, with an average performance gain of +2.0\% across all three datasets.

MagicID: Hybrid Preference Optimization for ID-Consistent and Dynamic-Preserved Video Customization

Video identity customization seeks to produce high-fidelity videos that maintain consistent identity and exhibit significant dynamics based on users' reference images. However, existing approaches face two key challenges: identity degradation over extended video length and reduced dynamics during training, primarily due to their reliance on traditional self-reconstruction training with static images. To address these issues, we introduce $\textbf{MagicID}$, a novel framework designed to directly promote the generation of identity-consistent and dynamically rich videos tailored to user preferences. Specifically, we propose constructing pairwise preference video data with explicit identity and dynamic rewards for preference learning, instead of sticking to the traditional self-reconstruction. To address the constraints of customized preference data, we introduce a hybrid sampling strategy. This approach first prioritizes identity preservation by leveraging static videos derived from reference images, then enhances dynamic motion quality in the generated videos using a Frontier-based sampling method. By utilizing these hybrid preference pairs, we optimize the model to align with the reward differences between pairs of customized preferences. Extensive experiments show that MagicID successfully achieves consistent identity and natural dynamics, surpassing existing methods across various metrics.

E2CB2former: Effecitve and Explainable Transformer for CB2 Receptor Ligand Activity Prediction

Accurate prediction of CB2 receptor ligand activity is pivotal for advancing drug discovery targeting this receptor, which is implicated in inflammation, pain management, and neurodegenerative conditions. Although conventional machine learning and deep learning techniques have shown promise, their limited interpretability remains a significant barrier to rational drug design. In this work, we introduce CB2former, a framework that combines a Graph Convolutional Network with a Transformer architecture to predict CB2 receptor ligand activity. By leveraging the Transformer's self attention mechanism alongside the GCN's structural learning capability, CB2former not only enhances predictive performance but also offers insights into the molecular features underlying receptor activity. We benchmark CB2former against diverse baseline models including Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, K Nearest Neighbors, Gradient Boosting, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Multilayer Perceptron, Convolutional Neural Network, and Recurrent Neural Network and demonstrate its superior performance with an R squared of 0.685, an RMSE of 0.675, and an AUC of 0.940. Moreover, attention weight analysis reveals key molecular substructures influencing CB2 receptor activity, underscoring the model's potential as an interpretable AI tool for drug discovery. This ability to pinpoint critical molecular motifs can streamline virtual screening, guide lead optimization, and expedite therapeutic development. Overall, our results showcase the transformative potential of advanced AI approaches exemplified by CB2former in delivering both accurate predictions and actionable molecular insights, thus fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in drug discovery.

Object detection has witnessed remarkable advancements over the past decade, largely driven by breakthroughs in deep learning and the proliferation of large scale datasets. However, the domain of road damage detection remains relatively under explored, despite its critical significance for applications such as infrastructure maintenance and road safety. This paper addresses this gap by introducing a novel top down benchmark that offers a complementary perspective to existing datasets, specifically tailored for road damage detection. Our proposed Top Down Road Damage Detection Dataset (TDRD) includes three primary categories of road damage cracks, potholes, and patches captured from a top down viewpoint. Additionally, we present a novel real time object detection framework, TDYOLOV10, designed to handle the unique challenges posed by the TDRD dataset. Comparative studies with state of the art models demonstrate competitive baseline results. By releasing TDRD, we aim to accelerate research in this crucial area. A sample of the dataset will be made publicly available upon the paper's acceptance.

Revolutionizing Encrypted Traffic Classification with MH-Net: A Multi-View Heterogeneous Graph Model

With the growing significance of network security, the classification of encrypted traffic has emerged as an urgent challenge. Traditional byte-based traffic analysis methods are constrained by the rigid granularity of information and fail to fully exploit the diverse correlations between bytes. To address these limitations, this paper introduces MH-Net, a novel approach for classifying network traffic that leverages multi-view heterogeneous traffic graphs to model the intricate relationships between traffic bytes. The essence of MH-Net lies in aggregating varying numbers of traffic bits into multiple types of traffic units, thereby constructing multi-view traffic graphs with diverse information granularities. By accounting for different types of byte correlations, such as header-payload relationships, MH-Net further endows the traffic graph with heterogeneity, significantly enhancing model performance. Notably, we employ contrastive learning in a multi-task manner to strengthen the robustness of the learned traffic unit representations. Experiments conducted on the ISCX and CIC-IoT datasets for both the packet-level and flow-level traffic classification tasks demonstrate that MH-Net achieves the best overall performance compared to dozens of SOTA methods.

Crocodile: Cross Experts Covariance for Disentangled Learning in Multi-Domain Recommendation

Multi-domain learning (MDL) has become a prominent topic in enhancing the quality of personalized services. It's critical to learn commonalities between domains and preserve the distinct characteristics of each domain. However, this leads to a challenging dilemma in MDL. On the one hand, a model needs to leverage domain-aware modules such as experts or embeddings to preserve each domain's distinctiveness. On the other hand, real-world datasets often exhibit long-tailed distributions across domains, where some domains may lack sufficient samples to effectively train their specific modules. Unfortunately, nearly all existing work falls short of resolving this dilemma. To this end, we propose a novel Cross-experts Covariance Loss for Disentangled Learning model (Crocodile), which employs multiple embedding tables to make the model domain-aware at the embeddings which consist most parameters in the model, and a covariance loss upon these embeddings to disentangle them, enabling the model to capture diverse user interests among domains. Empirical analysis demonstrates that our method successfully addresses both challenges and outperforms all state-of-the-art methods on public datasets. During online A/B testing in Tencent's advertising platform, Crocodile achieves 0.72% CTR lift and 0.73% GMV lift on a primary advertising scenario.

Incremental Context-free Grammar Inference in Black Box Settings

Black-box context-free grammar inference presents a significant challenge in many practical settings due to limited access to example programs. The state-of-the-art methods, Arvada and Treevada, employ heuristic approaches to generalize grammar rules, initiating from flat parse trees and exploring diverse generalization sequences. We have observed that these approaches suffer from low quality and readability, primarily because they process entire example strings, adding to the complexity and substantially slowing down computations. To overcome these limitations, we propose a novel method that segments example strings into smaller units and incrementally infers the grammar. Our approach, named Kedavra, has demonstrated superior grammar quality (enhanced precision and recall), faster runtime, and improved readability through empirical comparison.
