Polynomial invariants of cyclically ordered graphs

Cyclically ordered graphs, or cogs, sit between abstract graphs and cellularly embedded graphs. They arise naturally in topological graph theory, knot theory, and mathematical biology. We develop a formal theory of cogs and establish a number of invariants of cogs. In particular we detail several ways to present cogs and detail how these descriptions can be used to construct cog invariants by adapting the matching, transition and Yamada polynomials.

Thistlethwaite Theorems for Knotoids and Linkoids

The classical Thistlethwaite theorem for links can be phrased as asserting that the Kauffman bracket of a link can be obtained from an evaluation of the Bollob\'as-Riordan polynomial of a ribbon graph associated to one of the link's Kauffman states. In this paper, we extend this result to knotoids, which are a generalization of knots that naturally arises in the study of protein topology. Specifically we extend the Thistlethwaite theorem to the twisted arrow polynomial of knotoids, which is an invariant of knotoids on compact, not necessarily orientable, surfaces. To this end, we define twisted knotoids, marked ribbon graphs, and their arrow- and Bollob\'as-Riordan polynomials. We also extend the Thistlethwaite theorem to the loop arrow polynomial of knotoids in the plane, and to spherical linkoids.

Planar Equivalence of Knotoids and Quandle Invariants

While knotoids on the sphere are well-understood by a variety of invariants, knotoids on the plane have proven more subtle to classify due to their multitude over knotoids on the sphere and a lack of invariants that detect a diagram's planar nature. In this paper, we investigate equivalence of planar knotoids using quandle colorings and cocycle invariants. These quandle invariants are able to detect planarity by considering quandle colorings that are restricted at distinguished points in the diagram, namely the endpoints and the point-at-infinity. After defining these invariants we consider their applications to symmetry properties of planar knotoids such as invertibility and chirality. Furthermore we introduce an invariant called the triangular quandle cocycle invariant and show that it is a stronger invariant than the end specified quandle colorings.

The Mock Alexander Polynomial for Knotoids and Linkoids

The mock Alexander polynomial is an extension of the classical Alexander polynomial, defined and studied for (virtual) knots and knotoids by the second and third authors. In this paper we consider the mock Alexander polynomial for generalizations of knotoids. We prove a conjecture on the mock Alexander polynomial for knotoids, which generalizes to uni-linkoids. Afterwards we give constructions for canonical invariants of linkoids derived from the mock Alexander polynomial, using the formalism of generalized knotoids due to Adams et al.

On Vassiliev Invariants of Virtual Knots

We discuss Vassiliev invariants for virtual knots, expanding upon the theory of quantum virtual knot invariants developed in arXiv:1509.00578. In particular, following the theory of quantum invariants we work with 'rotational' virtual knots. We define chord diagrams, weight systems, and give examples of Lie algebra weight systems of rotational virtual knots. We end with a discussion of extended quantum invariants, which capture information that standard quantum invariants of rotational virtuals cannot.

New Quantum Invariants of Planar Knotoids

In this paper we discuss the applications of knotoids to modelling knots in open curves and produce new knotoid invariants. We show how invariants of knotoids generally give rise to well-behaved measures of how much an open curve is knotted. We define biframed planar knotoids, and construct new invariants of these objects that can be computed in polynomial time. As an application of these invariants we improve the classification of planar knotoids with up to five crossings by distinguishing several pairs of prime knotoids that were conjectured to be distinct by Goundaroulis et al.

Framed Knotoids and Their Quantum Invariants

We modify the definition of spherical knotoids to include a framing, in analogy to framed knots, and define a further modification that includes a secondary 'coframing' to obtain 'biframed' knotoids. We exhibit topological spaces whose ambient isotopy classes are in one-to-one correspondence with framed and biframed knotoids respectively. We then show how framed and biframed knotoids allow us to generalize quantum knot invariants to a knotoid setting, leading to the construction of general Reshetikhin-Turaev type biframed knotoid invariants.
