SWE-Prot\'eg\'e: Learning to Selectively Collaborate With an Expert Unlocks Small Language Models as Software Engineering Agents

Small language models (SLMs) offer compelling advantages in cost, latency, and adaptability, but have so far lagged behind larger models on long-horizon software engineering tasks such as SWE-bench, where they suffer from pervasive action looping and low resolution rates. We introduce SWE-Prot\'eg\'e, a post-training framework that reframes software repair as an expert-prot\'eg\'e collaboration problem. In SWE-Prot\'eg\'e, an SLM remains the sole decision-maker while learning to selectively seek guidance from a strong expert model, recognize stalled states, and follow through on expert feedback. Our approach combines supervised fine-tuning on expert-augmented trajectories with agentic reinforcement learning that explicitly discourages degenerative looping and unproductive expert collaboration. We lightly post-train Qwen2.5-Coder-7B-Instruct to achieve 42.4% Pass@1 on SWE-bench Verified, a +25.4% improvement over the prior SLM state of the art, while using expert assistance sparsely (~4 calls per task and 11% of total tokens).

Agentic Operator Generation for ML ASICs

We present TritorX, an agentic AI system designed to generate functionally correct Triton PyTorch ATen kernels at scale for emerging accelerator platforms. TritorX integrates open-source large language models with a custom linter, JIT compilation, and a PyTorch OpInfo-based test harness. This pipeline is compatible with both real Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) silicon and in hardware simulation environments for next-generation devices. In contrast to previous kernel-generation approaches that prioritize performance for a limited set of high-usage kernels, TritorX prioritizes coverage. Our system emphasizes correctness and generality across the entire operator set, including diverse data types, shapes, and argument patterns. In our experiments, TritorX successfully generated kernels and wrappers for 481 unique ATen operators that pass all corresponding PyTorch OpInfo tests (over 20,000 in total). TritorX paves the way for overnight generation of complete PyTorch ATen backends for new accelerator platforms.

Real Time Cluster Path Tracing

Photorealistic rendering effects are common in films, but most real time graphics today still rely on scan-line based multi-pass rendering to deliver rich visual experiences. While there have been prior works in distributed path tracing for static scene and objects under rigid motion, real time path tracing of deforming characters has to support per-frame dynamic BVH changes. We present the architecture and implementation of the first real-time production quality cluster path tracing renderer that supports film quality animation and deformation. We build our cluster path tracing system using the open source Blender and its GPU accelerated production quality renderer Cycles. Our system's rendering performance and quality scales linearly with the number of RTX cluster nodes used. It is able to generate and deliver path traced images with global illumination effects to remote light-weight client systems at 15-30 frames per second for a variety of Blender scenes including animated digital human characters with skin deformation and virtual objects.

Efficient Certified RAT Verification

Clausal proofs have become a popular approach to validate the results of SAT solvers. However, validating clausal proofs in the most widely supported format (DRAT) is expensive even in highly optimized implementations. We present a new format, called LRAT, which extends the DRAT format with hints that facilitate a simple and fast validation algorithm. Checking validity of LRAT proofs can be implemented using trusted systems such as the languages supported by theorem provers. We demonstrate this by implementing two certified LRAT checkers, one in Coq and one in ACL2.
