In situ performance of the Vertex Silicon Plane in the BM@N experiment during Run 9

The Vertex Silicon Plane (VSP) was commissioned and operated for the first time as the most upstream tracking station of the Baryonic Matter at Nuclotron (BM@N) experiment at the NICA accelerator complex during Run 9. The station consisting of six double-sided silicon microstrip modules based on the CBM-BM@N detector technology was installed about 8 cm downstream from the target inside the SP-41 analyzing magnet. The in situ module performance was characterized in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio, time resolution, and Lorentz drift in the magnetic field. The most probable cluster signal-to-noise ratio ranges from 15.5 to 33.2, while the time resolution relative to the trigger pulse is about 12 ns. The tracking performance was evaluated using track-hit residuals and hit-matching efficiency; two independent reference configurations based on the Forward Silicon Detector (FSD) and Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) tracking systems give consistent efficiencies of about 95%. The contribution of the VSP to the BM@N tracking performance was further studied through the transverse track impact parameter and the reconstruction of short VSP-GEM tracklets. Owing to its position close to the target and its coverage at large polar angles, the VSP provides an additional near-target tracking point and makes it possible to extend the geometrical acceptance beyond that of the FSD- and GEM-based central tracking system.

Monte Carlo study of extending the BM@N tracking acceptance toward midrapidity with the Vertex Silicon Plane

The Vertex Silicon Plane (VSP), installed close to the target in BM@N Run 9, can extend the tracking acceptance of the central tracking system toward larger polar angles. Using Monte Carlo simulations of Xe+Sn collisions at 3 AGeV, we reconstruct short tracklets from the primary vertex, one VSP hit, and hits in the first two Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) stations. These tracklets extend the reconstructed primary-proton coverage toward midrapidity and higher transverse momenta. For the 10-30% centrality interval of the independent validation dataset, the conditional reconstruction efficiency for reconstructible high-$p_T$ primary protons after BDT selection is 67.0%, while the tracklet purity reaches 86.5%. For $p_T>1.2$ GeV/c, the VSP-assisted tracklets increase the number of reconstructed primary protons by 17.5% relative to standard BM@N tracking. Of these additional protons, 84.6% lie within $|y|<0.3$, where the relative reconstruction gain reaches 45.5%. The added acceptance is concentrated in the high-$p_T$, near-midrapidity region relevant for identified-proton observables. Its use in data requires particle identification in the same region.

Study of omega-meson production in pp collisions at ANKE

The production of omega-mesons in the pp->pp omega reaction has been investigated with the COSY-ANKE spectrometer for excess energies of 60 and 92MeV by detecting the two final protons and reconstructing their missing mass. The large multipion background was subtracted using an event-by-event transformation of the proton momenta between the two energies. Differential distributions and total cross sections were obtained after careful studies of possible systematic uncertainties in the overall ANKE acceptance. The results are compared with the predictions of theoretical models. Combined with data on the phi-meson, a more refined estimate is made of the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule violation in the phi/omega production ratio.
