Mass gap for a monopole interacting with a nonlinear spinor field

Within SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with a source of the non-Abelian gauge field in the form of a classical spinor field, we study the dependence of the mass gap on the coupling constant between the gauge and nonlinear spinor fields. It is shown that the total dimensionless energy of the monopole interacting with the nonlinear spinor fields depends only on the dimensionless coupling constant.

Thermodynamics and statistical physics of quasiparticles within the quark-gluon plasma model

We consider thermodynamic properties of a quark-gluon plasma related to quasiparticles having the internal structure. For this purpose, we employ a possible analogy between quantum chromodynamics and non-Abelian Proca-Dirac-Higgs theory. The influence of characteristic sizes of the quasiparticles on such thermodynamic properties of the quark-gluon plasma like the internal energy and pressure is studied. Sizes of the quasiparticles are taken into account in the spirit of the van der Waals equation but we take into consideration that the quasiparticles have different sizes, and the average value of these sizes depends on temperature. It is shown that this results in a change in the internal energy and pressure of the quark-gluon plasma. Also, we show that, when the temperature increases, the average value of characteristic sizes of the quasiparticles increases as well. This leads to the occurrence of a phase transition at the temperature at which the volume occupied by the quasiparticles is compared with the volume occupied by the plasma.

Codimension-1 thick brane solutions in higher-dimensional $R^n$ gravity

Vacuum plane symmetric solutions within $αR^n$ modified gravity are obtained. The solutions can be regarded as describing thick branes with codimension 1 in a higher-dimensional spacetime. The dependence of the solutions on the values of four free parameters of the system under consideration is studied numerically. It is shown that when the parameter $α$ increases, the solutions tend to saturation. We also show that in all cases under consideration the spacetime is asymptotically anti-de Sitter one.

The motion of color-charged particles as a means of testing the non-Abelian dark matter model

A possibility is discussed for experimental testing of the dark matter model supported by a classic non-Abelian SU(3) gauge (Yang-Mills) field. Our approach is based on the analysis of the motion of color-charged particles on the background of color electric and magnetic fields using the Wong equations. Estimating the magnitudes of the color fields near the edge of a galaxy, we employ them in obtaining the general analytic solutions to the Wong equations. Using the latter, we calculate the magnitude of the extra acceleration of color-charged particles related to the possible presence of the color fields in the neighbourhood of the Earth.

Quantum torsion with non-zero standard deviation: non-perturbative approach for cosmology

Cosmology with non-perturbative quantum corrections resulting from torsion is considered. It is shown that the evolution of closed, open and flat Universes is changed because of the presence of a non-zero dispersion of quantum torsion. The evolution of a Universe with quantum torsion and with one type of average curvature can be similar to the evolution of a Universe without quantum torsion and with another type of average curvature. For the description of the non-perturbative quantum torsion, a vector field approximation is applied.

Chameleon stars

We consider a gravitating spherically symmetric configuration consisting of a scalar field non-minimally coupled to ordinary matter in the form of a perfect fluid. For this system we find static, regular, asymptotically flat solutions for both relativistic and non-relativistic cases. It is shown that the presence of the non-minimal interaction leads to substantial changes both in the radial matter distribution of the star and in the star's total mass. A simple stability test indicates that, for the choice of parameters used in the paper, the solutions are unstable.

A Star Harbouring a Wormhole at its Core

We consider a configuration consisting of a wormhole filled by a perfect fluid. Such a model can be applied to describe stars as well as neutron stars with a nontrivial topology. The presence of a tunnel allows for motion of the fluid, including oscillations near the core of the system. Choosing the polytropic equation of state for the perfect fluid, we obtain static regular solutions. Based on these solutions, we consider small radial oscillations of the configuration and show that the solutions are stable with respect to linear perturbations in the external region.

Thick brane solutions supported by two spinor fields

Stationary thick brane solutions supported by two spinor fields are considered. Two spinor fields are used here to exclude the off-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor of the spinor fields. The trapping of a test scalar field on the brane is also considered.

Qualitative analysis of the eigenvalue problem for two coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations

Eigenvalue problem for two coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations is numerically investigated. The fixed points of corresponding equations system are found. The classification of these points is made. The phase portraits of corresponding ordinary differential equations and the dependence of some parameters of the equations system and the total energy on the initial values are given.

On the self-similar motion of a gravitating Chaplygin fluid

A self-similar motion of the generalized Chaplygin gas in its own gravitational field is considered. The problem is being studied numerically and analytically (in the limiting cases). It is shown that the model under consideration admits only expanding solutions. As the astrophysical application of the model, a description of rotating curves of spiral galaxies is suggested by using the analytical solutions obtained in the paper.

Some thick brane solutions in $f(R)$-gravity

The thick brane model is considered in $f(R)\sim R^n$ gravity. It is shown that regular asymptotically anti-de Sitter solutions exist in some range of values of the parameter $n$. A peculiar feature of this model is the existence of a fixed point in the phase plane where all solutions start, and the brane can be placed at this point. The presence of the fixed point allows to avoid fine tuning of the model parameters to obtain thick brane solutions.

Usual and phantom scalar fields in five dimensions: compactification and flat thick brane solutions

In the model of a gravitating system with two scalar fields (one of which is phantom), two new types of regular solutions are found: mechanism for compactification of an extra dimension and a flat thick brane solution. It is shown that the first model has solutions oscillating over the extra coordinate and giving a finite radius of compactification of the fifth dimension and the second model is a flat thick brane embedded in the 5D Minkowski spacetime. Geometry of both models corresponds to a five-dimensional Minkowski space-time. Consideration of linear perturbations shows stability of the obtained solutions.

Viscous dark fluid

The unified dark energy and dark matter model within the framework of a model of a continuous medium with bulk viscosity (dark fluid) is considered. It is supposed that the bulk viscosity coefficient is an arbitrary function of the Hubble parameter. The choice of this function is carried out under the requirement to satisfy the observational data from recombination ($z\approx 1000$) till present time.

Geometric Model of Quintessence

On basis of modification of Einstein's gravitational equations by adding the term $f(R)\propto βR^n$, a geometric model of quintessence is proposed. The evolution equation for the scale factor $a$ of the Universe is analyzed for the two parameters $n=2$ and $n=4/3$, which were preferred by previous studies of the early Universe. Another choice of parameters $n$ and $β$ is proposed from the following reasons: the exponent $n$ close to 1.2953 follows from the request for the evolution of the Universe after recombination to be close to the evolution of the flat FRW model with cold dark matter and reasonable age of the Universe defines the value of the coefficient $β$. Such a model corresponding to the evolution of the Universe with the dynamical $Λ$-term describes well enough the observational data.

Cosmic string with two interacting scalar fields

The model of cosmic string formed from two gravitating and interacting scalar fields is considered. It is shown that the regular solutions exist at special choice of the model's parameters only.

Geometric model of dark energy

A cosmological model with a gravitational Lagrangian $L_g(R)\propto R+A R^n$ is set up to account for the presently observed re-acceleration of the universe. The evolution equation for the scale factor $a$ of the universe is analyzed in detail for the two parameters $n=2$ and $n=4/3$, which were preferred by previous studies of the early universe. The initial conditions are specified at a red-shift parameter $z\approx 0$. The fit to the observable data fixes the free parameter $A$. The analysis shows that the model with $n=2$ agrees better with present data. Then, if we set $w(q)=-1$ at $z=0$, corresponding to the deceleration parameter $q\approx -1/2$, we find that at $z\approx 0.5$, $w(q)$ has evolved to $w\approx -0.72$, corresponding to $q\approx 0$. At $z\approx 1$ we find $w\approx 0$ corresponding to $q\approx 1/2$. These results are compared with the flat Friedmann model with cold matter and Lambda-term (LCDM model) for the same initial conditions at $z\approx 0$. The other choice of the model with $n=4/3$ allows for big crunch. However this possibility is eliminated by the fit of $A$ to the present data.

Relativistic Model of Detonation Transition from Neutron to Strange Matter

We study the conversion of neutron matter into strange matter as a detonation wave. The detonation is assumed to originate from a central region in a spherically symmetric background of neutrons with a varying radial density distribution. We present self-similar solutions for the propagation of detonation in static and collapsing backgrounds of neutron matter. The solutions are obtained in the framework of general relativistic hydrodynamics, and are relevant for the possible transition of neutron into strange stars. Conditions for the formation of either bare or crusted strange stars are discussed.

Flashing Dark Matter-- Gamma-Ray Bursts from Relativistic Detonations of Electro-Dilaton Stars

We speculate that the universe is filled with stars composed of electromagnetic and dilaton fields which are the sources of the powerful gamma-ray bursts impinging upon us from all directions of the universe. We calculate soliton-like solutions of these fields and show that their energy can be converted into a relativistic plasma in an explosive way. As in classical detonation theory the conversion proceeds by a relativistic self-similar solution for a spherical detonation wave which extracts the energy from the scalar field via a plasma in the wave front.
