Antiferromagnetism and Superconductivity in a Model with Extended Pairing Interactions

The competition between antiferromagnetism and the $d+id$ superconducting state is studied in a model with near and next near neighbour interactions in the absence of any on-site repulsion. A mean field study shows that it is possible to have simultaneous occurrence of an antiferromagnetic and a singlet $d+id$ superconducting state in this model. In addition, such a coexistence generates a triplet $d+id$ superconducting order parameter with centre of mass momentum $Q=(π, π)$ {\it dynamically} having the same orbital symmetry as the singlet superconductor. Inclusion of next nearest neighbour hopping in the band stabilises the $d_{xy}$ superconducting state away from half filling, the topology of the phase diagram, though, remains similar to the near neighbour model. In view of the very recent observation of a broad region of coexistence of antiferrmagnetic and unconventional superconducting states in organic superconductors, the possibility of observation of the triplet state has been outlined.

Thermodynamic Properties of d_{x^2-y^2}+id_{xy} Superconductor

In view of the current interest in d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}+id_{xy} superconductors some of their thermodynamic properties have been studied to obtain relevant information for experimental verification. The temperature dependence of the specific heat and superfluid density show marked differences in d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}+id_{xy} state compared to the pure d-wave state. A second order phase transition is observed on lowering the temperature into a d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}+id_{xy} state from the d_{x^{2}-y^{2}} state with the opening up of a gap all over the fermi surface. The thermodynamic quantities in d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}+id_{xy} state are dominated by this gap as in an s-wave superconductor as opposed to the algebraic temperature dependence in pure d-wave states coming from the low energy excitations across the node(s).

Gap anisotropy in the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ}

The gap anisotropy in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ is revisited in the framework of a d-wave scenario in view of the recent angle-resolved photoemission experiment. Based on a tight-binding fit to the normal state dispersion, a detail analysis on the effects of the inclusion of the next harmonic in the d-wave has been presented. Significant effect has been observed in the superconducting T$_c$. The density of states is linear at the nodes with enhanced weight, caused by a marked increase in the low energy excitaions which affect the thermodynamics considerably. The slope of the $ρ_s - T$ curve in the low temperature regime increases and the specific heat reflects the enhanced entropy at low temperatures. The leading edge of the ARPES energy distribution curves have been calculated and found to shift towards higher energy. The effect of scattering by non-magnetic impurities in this context is also outlined.
