Groups of Prime Units

We study groups of units modulo $n$ whose nonidentity elements are all primes in $\{1,\ldots,n-1\}$. We prove that there are only nine groups of prime units which are the full group of units modulo $n$, and there are fewer than $10^{22}$ groups of prime units containing all prime units in the possible range $(\sqrt n,n-\sqrt n)\cup\{n-1\}$. We prove under Dickson's conjecture that there are infinitely many groups of prime units of arbitrary order $d \ge 2$ modulo composite integers. We prove under Schinzel's Hypothesis H that there are infinitely many groups of prime units of order 3 modulo a prime $r$. We prove that the number of such prime moduli $r$ smaller than $X$ is $\ll X/(\log X)^3$.

Continuum Free-Energy Computing

Building on nonintrinsic Landau theory, we introduce continuum free-energy computing as a new computing paradigm in which problem instances are encoded in programmable free-energy functionals and solved by intrinsic relaxational dynamics. We identify ion-patterned FeRh as a plausible physical realization through spatial control of the local phase bias, with antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic interface motion providing the relaxational mechanism. We further identify two representative task classes, a minimal operating protocol, and the main physical constraints.

The Nonintrinsic Sector of Landau Theory

Landau theory usually treats free-energy coefficients as intrinsic parameters fixed by thermodynamic variables. We show that externally written microscale fields can survive coarse graining and enter the free-energy functional as spatially prescribed coefficient fields. This defines a nonintrinsic sector of Landau theory. The key condition is a hierarchy of correlation, writing, and frustration lengths. We identify ion-patterned FeRh as a plausible realization.

Quantum Covert Communication under Extreme Adversarial Control

Secure quantum communication traditionally assumes that the adversary controls only the public channel. We consider a more powerful adversary who can demand private information of users. This type of adversary has been studied in public key cryptography in recent years, initiated by Persiano, Phan, and Yung at Eurocrypt 2022. We introduce a similar attacker to quantum communication, referring to it as the controller. The controller is a quantum computer that controls the entire communication infrastructure, including both classical and quantum channels. It can even ban classical public key cryptography and post-quantum public key cryptography, leaving only quantum cryptography and post-quantum symmetric key cryptography as the remaining options. We demonstrate how such a controller can control quantum communication and how users can achieve covert communication under its control.
