Combating Instruction Conflict via Energy-Driven Latent Conflict Detection

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed with hierarchical instructions, yet they remain vulnerable to conflicts in which user directives override system-level constraints. Existing defense mechanisms predominantly focus on static input inspection and therefore fail to detect Response Drift, a phenomenon in which the model's final response violates system-level constraints despite seemingly compliant inputs. To bridge this gap, we introduce ELCD, a response-level latent conflict detector for post-generation, pre-delivery verification. Given the full generated output, ELCD constructs a composite hidden-state representation by concatenating the final-token embedding with the mean-pooled response embedding. It then optimizes a pairwise margin ranking objective to separate compliant and drifting responses in latent space. Extensive experiments across five mainstream LLMs ranging from 1.5B to 14B parameters demonstrate that ELCD significantly outperforms competitive baselines. Notably, it improves the PR-AUC on Llama-2-7B by approximately 30 percentage points and reduces the False Positive Rate at 95% TPR (FPR95) on Mistral-7B to 2.67%. These results suggest that ELCD provides a promising approach for latent instruction-conflict detection in open-weight or self-hosted LLM deployments.

VOID: Defeating Unauthorized Mimicry in Latent Diffusion Models

While Latent Diffusion Models (LDMs) have revolutionized visual synthesis, they are increasingly exploited for unauthorized mimicry of individuals. Existing defenses inject deceptive perturbations to steer the generated images toward irrelevant targets. However, this approach hinges on an ungrounded assumption: subtle perturbations can maintain their deceptive efficacy throughout an LDM's extensive generation process. In reality, the model's innate restoration mechanism will remove such perturbations and cause individual identities to re-emerge in the images generated. We propose VOID, a defense framework that overcomes this conundrum by manipulating an LDM's intrinsic stochasticity. VOID perturbs the diffusion pipeline in two novel ways: 1) amplifying the latent encoding errors to shatter an image's semantic structure, and 2) counteracting the target guidance signals to suppress the model's restoration capabilities. This results in a semantic corruption that thwarts any unauthorized mimicry. Notably, the security gain does not come at the price of visual utility, as VOID simultaneously manages to confine perturbations to human-imperceptible regions of protected images. Our comprehensive evaluation of 24 state-of-the-art defenses against 10 mimicry attacks on 5 datasets demonstrates VOID's unprecedented protection power: it increases the average Frechet Inception Distance (FID) from 113 to 365, a 223% improvement over the strongest defense to date.

An abstract uncertainty principle with applications

Under Wigdersons' framework and by sorting out the technical points in the recent works of Tang (J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 31 (2025)) and Dias-Luef-Prata (J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 198 (2025)), we prove an abstract uncertainty principle for functions in the $L^p$ setting. An immediate consequence is a new uncertainty principle for the Fourier transform, unifying and extending many existing results. More applications are shown for PDEs, including the moment growth estimates for some linear and nonlinear dispersive equations, and a type of weighted lower bound estimate for the spacetime moment of the Schr\"{o}dinger equation and heat equation inspired by the control theory.

Pointwise estimates for the fundamental solutions of higher order Schr\"{o}dinger equations in odd dimensions II: high dimensional case

In this paper, for any odd $n$ and any integer $m\geq1$ with $n>4m$, we study the fundamental solution of the higher order Schr\"{o}dinger equation \begin{equation*} \mathrm{i}\partial_tu(x,t)=((-\Delta)^m+V(x))u(x,t),\quad t\in \mathbb{R},\,\,x\in \mathbb{R}^n, \end{equation*} where $V$ is a real-valued $C^{\frac{n+1}{2}-2m}$ potential with certain decay. Let $P_{ac}(H)$ denote the projection onto the absolutely continuous spectrum space of $H=(-\Delta)^m+V$, and assume that $H$ has no positive embedded eigenvalue. Our main result says that $e^{-\mathrm{i}tH}P_{ac}(H)$ has integral kernel $K(t,x,y)$ satisfying \begin{equation*} |K(t, x,y)|\le C(1+|t|)^{-(\frac{n}{2m}-\sigma)}(1+|t|^{-\frac{n}{2 m}})\left(1+|t|^{-\frac{1}{2 m}}|x-y|\right)^{-\frac{n(m-1)}{2 m-1}},\quad t\neq0,\,x,y\in\mathbb{R}^n, \end{equation*} where $\sigma=2$ if $0$ is an eigenvalue of $H$, and $\sigma=0$ otherwise. A similar result for smoothing operators $H^\frac{\alpha}{2m}e^{-\mathrm{i}tH}P_{ac}(H)$ is also given. The regularity condition $V\in C^{\frac{n+1}{2}-2m}$ is optimal in the second order case, and it also seems optimal when $m>1$.

Pointwise estimates for the fundamental solutions of higher order Schr\"{o}dinger equations in low odd dimensions

In this paper, we study the fundamental solution of the higher order Schr\"odinger equation \begin{equation*} \mathrm{i}\partial_t u(x,t) = \big((-\Delta)^m + V(x)\big)u(x,t), \quad t \in \mathbb{R}, \ x \in \mathbb{R}^n, \end{equation*} for any odd dimension $n$ and integer $m \geq 1$ satisfying $n < 4m$, where $V$ is a real-valued bounded potential with suitable decay. Let $P_{ac}(H)$ denote the projection onto the absolutely continuous spectral subspace of $H = (-\Delta)^m + V$, and assume $H$ has no positive embedded eigenvalues. Our main result says that the evolution operator $e^{-\mathrm{i}tH}P_{ac}(H)$ has an integral kernel $K(t,x,y)$ satisfying the pointwise estimate \begin{equation*} |K(t,x,y)| \leq C (1 + |t|)^{-h} (1 + |t|^{-\frac{n}{2m}}) \left(1 + |t|^{-\frac{1}{2m}}|x - y|\right)^{-\frac{n(m-1)}{2m-1}}, \quad t \neq 0, \ x,y \in \mathbb{R}^n, \end{equation*} where the exponent $h$ depends on $m$, $n$, and the zero energy resonance structure of $H$. We also prove analogous estimates for smoothing operators of the form $H^{\frac{\alpha}{2m}}e^{-\mathrm{i}tH}P_{ac}(H)$. The key innovation of this paper is a unified approach to deriving asymptotic expansions of the perturbed resolvents around zero, which comprehensively addresses all possible resonance types.

The scattering of fractional Schr\"{o}dinger operators with short range potentials

For any positive real number $s$, we study the scattering theory in a unified way for the fractional Schr\"{o}dinger operator $H=H_0+V$, where $H_0=(-\Delta)^\frac s2$ and the real-valued potential $V$ satisfies short range condition. We prove the existence and asymptotic completeness of the wave operators $W_\pm=\mathrm{s-}\lim_{t\rightarrow\pm\infty}e^{itH}e^{-itH_0}$, the discreteness and finite multiplicity of the non-zero pure point spectrum $\sigma_\mathrm{pp}\setminus\{0\}$ of $H$, and the finite decay property of eigenfunctions. The short range condition is sharp with respect to the allowed decay rate of $V$, and the decay threshold for the existence and non-existence of the wave operators is faster than $|x|^{-1}$ at the infinity in some sense. Our approach is inspired by the theory of limiting absorption principle for simply characteristic operators established by S. Agmon and L. H\"{o}rmander in the 1970s.

Unique continuation properties for one dimensional higher order Schr\"{o}dinger equations

We study two types of unique continuation properties for the higher order Schr\"{o}dinger equation with potential $$ i\partial_tu=(-\Delta_x)^mu+V(t,x)u,\quad(t,x)\in\mathbb{R}^{1+n},\,2\leq m\in\mathbb{N}_+. $$ The first one says if $u$ has certain exponential decay at two times, then $u\equiv0$, and this result is sharp by constructing critical non-trivial solutions. The second one says if $u\equiv0$ in an arbitrary half-space of $\mathbb{R}^{1+n}$, then $u\equiv0$ identically. The uniqueness theorems are given when $n=1$, but we also prove partial results when $n\in\mathbb{N}_+$ for their own interests. Possibility or obstacles to proving these unique continuation properties in higher spatial dimensions are also discussed.

Inhomogeneous Oscillatory Integrals and Global Smoothing Effects for Dispersive Equations

We study oscillatory integrals of the type ${\mathcal F}^{-1}(e^{ita(\cdot)}\psi(\cdot))$ where $a$ is a general function satisfying some elliptic type and non-degenerate conditions at both the origin and infinity, and $\psi$ belongs to some symbol class. Point-wise estimates in space-time are gained with partial sharpness. As applications, global smoothing effects of $L^p-L^q$ as well as Strichartz type for dispersive equations are studied. An application to fractional Schr\"odinger equations is also given.
