Hierarchic Power Allocation for Spectrum Sharing in OFDM-Based Cognitive Radio Networks

In this paper, a Stackelberg game is built to model the hierarchic power allocation of primary user (PU) network and secondary user (SU) network in OFDM-based cognitive radio (CR) networks. We formulate the PU and the SUs as the leader and the followers, respectively. We consider two constraints: the total power constraint and the interference-to-signal ratio (ISR) constraint, in which the ratio between the accumulated interference and the received signal power at each PU should not exceed certain threshold. Firstly, we focus on the single-PU and multi-SU scenario. Based on the analysis of the Stackelberg Equilibrium (SE) for the proposed Stackelberg game, an analytical hierarchic power allocation method is proposed when the PU can acquire the additional information to anticipate SUs' reaction. The analytical algorithm has two steps: 1) The PU optimizes its power allocation with considering the reaction of SUs to its action. In the power optimization of the PU, there is a sub-game for power allocation of SUs given fixed transmit power of the PU. The existence and uniqueness for the Nash Equilibrium (NE) of the sub-game are investigated. We also propose an iterative algorithm to obtain the NE, and derive the closed-form solutions of NE for the perfectly symmetric channel. 2) The SUs allocate the power according to the NE of the sub-game given PU's optimal power allocation. Furthermore, we design two distributed iterative algorithms for the general channel even when private information of the SUs is unavailable at the PU. The first iterative algorithm has a guaranteed convergence performance, and the second iterative algorithm employs asynchronous power update to improve time efficiency. Finally, we extend to the multi-PU and multi-SU scenario, and a distributed iterative algorithm is presented.

A 3D Segmentation Method for Retinal Optical Coherence Tomography Volume Data

With the introduction of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT), much larger image datasets are routinely acquired compared to what was possible using the previous generation of time-domain OCT. Thus, the need for 3-D segmentation methods for processing such data is becoming increasingly important. We present a new 3D segmentation method for retinal OCT volume data, which generates an enhanced volume data by using pixel intensity, boundary position information, intensity changes on both sides of the border simultaneously, and preliminary discrete boundary points are found from all A-Scans and then the smoothed boundary surface can be obtained after removing a small quantity of error points. Our experiments show that this method is efficient, accurate and robust.

Two-color QCD via dimensional reduction

We study the thermodynamics of two-color QCD at high temperature and/or density using a dimensionally reduced superrenormalizable effective theory, formulated in terms of a coarse grained Wilson line. In the absence of quarks, the theory is required to respect the Z(2) center symmetry, while the effects of quarks of arbitrary masses and chemical potentials are introduced via soft Z(2) breaking operators. Perturbative matching of the effective theory parameters to the full theory is carried out explicitly, and it is argued how the new theory can be used to explore the phase diagram of two-color QCD.

QCD-like theories at nonzero temperature and density

We investigate the properties of hot and/or dense matter in QCD-like theories with quarks in a (pseudo)real representation of the gauge group using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The gauge dynamics is modeled using a simple lattice spin model with nearest-neighbor interactions. We first keep our discussion as general as possible, and only later focus on theories with adjoint quarks of two or three colors. Calculating the phase diagram in the plane of temperature and quark chemical potential, it is qualitatively confirmed that the critical temperature of the chiral phase transition is much higher than the deconfinement transition temperature. At a chemical potential equal to half of the diquark mass in the vacuum, a diquark Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) phase transition occurs. In the two-color case, a Ginzburg-Landau expansion is used to study the tetracritical behavior around the intersection point of the deconfinement and BEC transition lines, which are both of second order. We obtain a compact expression for the expectation value of the Polyakov loop in an arbitrary representation of the gauge group (for any number of colors), which allows us to study Casimir scaling at both nonzero temperature and chemical potential.
