Birational Weyl group actions and q-Painleve equations via mutation combinatorics in cluster algebras

A cluster algebra is an algebraic structure generated by operations of a quiver (a directed graph) called the mutations and their associated simple birational mappings. By using a graph-combinatorial approach, we present a systematic way to derive a tropical, i.e. subtraction-free birational, representation of Weyl groups from cluster algebras. Our results provide an extensive class of Weyl group actions, including previously known examples with algebro-geometric background, and hence are relevant to the q-Painleve equations and their higher-order extensions. Key ingredients of the argument are the combinatorial aspects of the reflection associated with a cycle subgraph in the quiver. We also study symplectic structures of the discrete dynamical systems thus obtained. The normal form of a skew-symmetric integer matrix allows us to choose Darboux coordinates while preserving the birationality.

Geometric description of discrete power function associated with the sixth Painlev\'e equation

In this paper, we consider the discrete power function associated with the sixth Painlev\'e equation. This function is a special solution of the so-called cross-ratio equation with a similarity constraint. We show in this paper that this system is embedded in a cubic lattice with $\widetilde{W}(3A_1^{(1)})$ symmetry. By constructing the action of $\widetilde{W}(3A_1^{(1)})$ as a subgroup of $\widetilde{W}(D_4^{(1)})$, i.e., the symmetry group of P$_{\rm VI}$, we show how to relate $\widetilde{W}(D_4^{(1)})$ to the symmetry group of the lattice. Moreover, by using translations in $\widetilde{W}(3A_1^{(1)})$, we explain the odd-even structure appearing in previously known explicit formulas in terms of the $\tau$ function.

An explicit formula for the discrete power function associated with circle patterns of Schramm type

We present an explicit formula for the discrete power function introduced by Bobenko, which is expressed in terms of the hypergeometric τfunctions for the sixth Painlevé equation. The original definition of the discrete power function imposes strict conditions on the domain and the value of the exponent. However, we show that one can extend the value of the exponent to arbitrary complex numbers except even integers and the domain to a discrete analogue of the Riemann surface. Moreover, we show that the discrete power function is an immersion when the real part of the exponent is equal to one.

Bilinearization and Special Solutions to the Discrete Schwarzian KdV Equation

Various solutions to the discrete Schwarzian KdV equation are discussed. We first derive the bilinear difference equations of Hirota type of the discrete Schwarzian KP equation, which is decomposed into three discrete two-dimensional Toda lattice equations. We then construct two kinds of solutions in terms of the Casorati determinant. We derive the discrete Schwarzian KdV equation on an inhomogeneous lattice and its solutions by a reduction process. We finally discuss the solutions in terms of the $\tau$ functions of some Painlev\'e systems.

Hypergeometric $τ$-Functions of the $q$-Painlevé System of Type $E_7^{(1)}$

We present the $τ$-functions for the hypergeometric solutions to the $q$-Painlevé system of type $E_7^{(1)}$ in a determinant formula whose entries are given by the basic hypergeometric function ${}_8W_7$. By using the $W(D_5)$ symmetry of the function ${}_8W_7$, we construct a set of twelve solutions and describe the action of $\widetilde{W}(D_6^{(1)})$ on the set.

Hypergeometric solutions to the q-Painlevé equations

Hypergeometric solutions to seven q-Painlevé equations in Sakai's classification are constructed. Geometry of plane curves is used to reduce the q-Painlevé equations to the three-term recurrence relations for q-hypergeometric functions.

Cubic Pencils and Painlevé Hamiltonians

We present a simple heuristic method to derive the Painlevé differential equations from the corresponding geometry of rational surafces. We also give a direct relationship between the cubic pencils and Seiberg-Witten curves.

_10E_9 solution to the elliptic Painlev'e equation

A $τ$ function formalism for Sakai's elliptic Painlev'e equation is presented. This establishes the equivalence between the two formulations by Sakai and by Ohta-Ramani-Grammaticos. We also give a simple geometric description of the elliptic Painlev'e equation as a non-autonomous deformation of the addition formula on elliptic curves. By using these formulations, we construct a particular solution of the elliptic Painlev'e equation expressed in terms of the elliptic hypergeometric function_10E_9.

On a class of algebraic solutions to Painlevé VI equation, its determinant formula and coalescence cascade

A determinant formula for a class of algebraic solutions to Painlevé VI equation (P$_{\rm VI}$) is presented. This expression is regarded as a special case of the universal characters. The entries of the determinant are given by the Jacobi polynomials. Degeneration to the rational solutions of P$_{\rm V}$ and P$_{\rm III}$ is discussed by applying the coalescence procedure. Relationship between Umemura polynomials associated with P$_{\rm VI}$ and our formula is also discussed.

On the Rational Solutions of q-Painlevé V Equation

We give an explicit determinant formula for a class of rational solutions of a q-analogue of the Painlevé V equation. The entries of the determinant are given by the continuous q-Laguerre polynomials.
