Design and numerical performance analysis of efficient Ag3TaX4 (X = S, Se, Te) thin film solar cells

Silver-based ternary chalcogenides have recently emerged as promising absorber materials for thin film photovoltaics. Nevertheless, their photovoltaic performance in complete device architectures has not yet been systematically explored. In this work, three-dimensional (3D) n-CdS/p-Ag3TaX4 (X = S, Se, Te)/p+-GeS thin-film solar cells have been designed and numerically investigated using the Semiconductor Module of COMSOL Multiphysics. Herein, the various performance matrices of the proposed devices have been analysed in accordance with the changing of depth, carrier, and defect concentration in each layer of the structures. The optimized Ag3TaS4-based device delivers a power conversion efficiency, PCE of 24.66%, open circuit voltage, VOC of 1.4V, short circuit current density, JSC of 20.68 mA/cm2, and fill factor, FF of 85.16%. The Ag3TaSe4-based solar cell exhibits the PCE of 28.1% with VOC = 1.19V, JSC = 27.0 mA/cm2, and FF = 87.44%. The Ag3TaTe4 solar device shows a PCE of 27.56% with a VOC of 0.88 V, JSC of 36.14 mA/cm2, fill factor of 86.65%. These results provide a deeper insight into device operation and offer practical design guidelines for fabricating efficient Ag3TaX4 (X = S, Se, T e)-based novel next-generation solar cells.

Numerical exploration on unveiling the photovoltaic potential of MgXS3(X = Ti, Zr, Hf) chalcogenide perovskites

Lead-free chalcogenide perovskites offer a nontoxic and thermally robust path beyond Pb-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs), but their device-level behavior in realistic three-dimensional geometries remains insufficiently characterized. In this work, we investigate ZnSe/MgXS3(X = Ti, Zr, Hf)/Sb2S3 solar cell architecture where MgXS3 absorbers from the II-IV-VI chalcogenide perovskite family is employed as the absorber layer. The device is analyzed using 3D finite-element simulations in COMSOL Multiphysics that self-consistently couple optical generation, drift-diffusion carrier transport, and heat transfer under AM 1.5G 1-sun illumination, following a fully coupled opto-electro-thermal framework. For each absorber composition, the impacts of absorber thickness, doping, and defect density are systematically investigated, and the contribution of an Sb2S3 back-surface-field (BSF) layer to carrier collection and spectral response is quantified. Under optimized conditions, MgZrS3, MgTiS3, MgHfS3-based devices achieves a simulated power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 28.18%, 26.72%, and 28.16%, respectively. The corresponding open-circuit voltage (VOC) values are 0.94 V, 0.74 V, and, 1.07 V while the short-circuit current density (JSC) values are 34.46 mA/cm2, 42.69 mA/cm2, and 29.89 mA/cm2, with fill factor (FF) values of 86.99%, 84.58%, and 88.02%, respectively. Coupled electro-thermal simulations further reveal a small spatially non-uniform steady-state temperature rise across the ultrathin cell stack, mainly governed by non-radiative recombination and Joule dissipation within the active layers. Overall, these results confirm MgXS3(X = Ti, Zr, Hf) chalcogenide perovskites as promising lead-free absorber materials and offer practical design guidance for achieving high-efficiency, thermally stable three-dimensional device architectures.

mmFHE: mmWave Sensing with End-to-End Fully Homomorphic Encryption

We present mmFHE, the first system that executes the entire cloud-side mmWave sensing pipeline including the DSP and ML inference under fully homomorphic encryption (FHE). mmFHE encrypts range profiles on an edge device after lightweight plaintext preprocessing and executes the entire mmWave signal-processing and ML inference pipeline homomorphically on a semi-honest cloud that operates exclusively on ciphertexts. At the core of mmFHE is a library of seven composable, data-oblivious FHE kernels that replace standard DSP routines with fixed arithmetic circuits for different application-specific pipelines. We demonstrate this approach on two representative tasks: vital-sign monitoring and gesture recognition. We formally prove two cryptographic guarantees for any pipeline assembled from this library: input privacy and data obliviousness. These guarantees effectively neutralize various supervised and unsupervised privacy attacks on raw data, including re-identification and data-dependent privacy leakage. Evaluation on three public radar datasets shows that encryption introduces negligible error versus the plaintext pipeline, with 84.5% gesture accuracy (vs. 84.7%). End-to-end cloud GPU latency is 1.21 s per 10 s vital-sign window and 5.76 s per 3 s gesture window. These results establish the initial feasibility of end-to-end mmWave sensing under FHE on commodity hardware.

Multilingual Financial Fraud Detection Using Machine Learning and Transformer Models: A Bangla-English Study

Financial fraud detection has emerged as a critical research challenge amid the rapid expansion of digital financial platforms. Although machine learning approaches have demonstrated strong performance in identifying fraudulent activities, most existing research focuses exclusively on English-language data, limiting applicability to multilingual contexts. Bangla (Bengali), despite being spoken by over 250 million people, remains largely unexplored in this domain. In this work, we investigate financial fraud detection in a multilingual Bangla-English setting using a dataset comprising legitimate and fraudulent financial messages. We evaluate classical machine learning models (Logistic Regression, Linear SVM, and Ensemble classifiers) using TF-IDF features alongside transformer-based architectures. Experimental results using 5-fold stratified cross-validation demonstrate that Linear SVM achieves the best performance with 91.59 percent accuracy and 91.30 percent F1 score, outperforming the transformer model (89.49 percent accuracy, 88.88 percent F1) by approximately 2 percentage points. The transformer exhibits higher fraud recall (94.19 percent) but suffers from elevated false positive rates. Exploratory analysis reveals distinctive patterns: scam messages are longer, contain urgency-inducing terms, and frequently include URLs (32 percent) and phone numbers (97 percent), while legitimate messages feature transactional confirmations and specific currency references. Our findings highlight that classical machine learning with well-crafted features remains competitive for multilingual fraud detection, while also underscoring the challenges posed by linguistic diversity, code-mixing, and low-resource language constraints.

Feasibility of Radio Frequency Based Wireless Sensing of Lead Contamination in Soil

Widespread Pb (lead) contamination of urban soil significantly impacts food safety and public health and hinders city greening efforts. However, most existing technologies for measuring Pb are labor-intensive and costly. In this study, we propose SoilScanner, a radio frequency-based wireless system that can detect Pb in soils. This is based on our discovery that the propagation of different frequency band radio signals is affected differently by different salts such as NaCl and Pb(NO3)2 in the soil. In a controlled experiment, manually adding NaCl and Pb(NO3)2 in clean soil, we demonstrated that different salts reflected signals at different frequencies in distinct patterns. In addition, we confirmed the finding using uncontrolled field samples with a machine learning model. Our experiment results show that SoilScanner can classify soil samples into low-Pb and high-Pb categories (threshold at 200 ppm) with an accuracy of 72%, with no sample with > 500 ppm of Pb being misclassified. The results of this study show that it is feasible to build portable and affordable Pb detection and screening devices based on wireless technology.

PrivyWave: Privacy-Aware Wireless Sensing of Heartbeat

Wireless sensing technologies can now detect heartbeats using radio frequency and acoustic signals, raising significant privacy concerns. Existing privacy solutions either protect from all sensing systems indiscriminately preventing any utility or operate post-data collection, failing to enable selective access where authorized devices can monitor while unauthorized ones cannot. We present a key-based physical obfuscation system, PrivyWave, that addresses this challenge by generating controlled decoy heartbeat signals at cryptographically-determined frequencies. Unauthorized sensors receive a mixture of real and decoy signals that are indistinguishable without the secret key, while authorized sensors use the key to filter out decoys and recover accurate measurements. Our evaluation with 13 participants demonstrates effective protection across both sensing modalities: for mmWave radar, unauthorized sensors show 21.3 BPM mean absolute error while authorized sensors maintain a much smaller 5.8 BPM; for acoustic sensing, unauthorized error increases to 42.0 BPM while authorized sensors achieve 9.7 BPM. The system operates across multiple sensing modalities without per-modality customization and provides cryptographic obfuscation guarantees. Performance benchmarks show robust protection across different distances (30-150 cm), orientations (120{\deg} field of view), and diverse indoor environments, establishing physical-layer obfuscation as a viable approach for selective privacy in pervasive health monitoring.

SoilSound: Smartphone-based Soil Moisture Estimation

Soil moisture monitoring is essential for agriculture and environmental management, yet existing methods require either invasive probes disturbing the soil or specialized equipment, limiting access to the public. We present SoilSound, an ubiquitous accessible smartphone-based acoustic sensing system that can measure soil moisture without disturbing the soil. We leverage the built-in speaker and microphone to perform a vertical scan mechanism to accurately measure moisture without any calibration. Unlike existing work that use transmissive properties, we propose an alternate model for acoustic reflections in soil based on the surface roughness effect to enable moisture sensing without disturbing the soil. The system works by sending acoustic chirps towards the soil and recording the reflections during a vertical scan, which are then processed and fed to a convolutional neural network for on-device soil moisture estimation with negligible computational, memory, or power overhead. We evaluated the system by training with curated soils in boxes in the lab and testing in the outdoor fields and show that SoilSound achieves a mean absolute error (MAE) of 2.39% across 10 different locations. Overall, the evaluation shows that SoilSound can accurately track soil moisture levels ranging from 15.9% to 34.0% across multiple soil types, environments, and users; without requiring any calibration or disturbing the soil, enabling widespread moisture monitoring for home gardeners, urban farmers, citizen scientists, and agricultural communities in resource-limited settings.

ANUBHUTI: A Comprehensive Corpus For Sentiment Analysis In Bangla Regional Languages

Sentiment analysis for regional dialects of Bangla remains an underexplored area due to linguistic diversity and limited annotated data. This paper introduces ANUBHUTI, a comprehensive dataset consisting of 10,000 sentences manually translated from standard Bangla into four major regional dialects Mymensingh, Noakhali, Sylhet, and Chittagong. The dataset predominantly features political and religious content, reflecting the contemporary socio political landscape of Bangladesh, alongside neutral texts to maintain balance. Each sentence is annotated using a dual annotation scheme: multiclass thematic labeling categorizes sentences as Political, Religious, or Neutral, and multilabel emotion annotation assigns one or more emotions from Anger, Contempt, Disgust, Enjoyment, Fear, Sadness, and Surprise. Expert native translators conducted the translation and annotation, with quality assurance performed via Cohens Kappa inter annotator agreement, achieving strong consistency across dialects. The dataset was further refined through systematic checks for missing data, anomalies, and inconsistencies. ANUBHUTI fills a critical gap in resources for sentiment analysis in low resource Bangla dialects, enabling more accurate and context aware natural language processing.

Short-Term Electricity Demand Forecasting of Dhaka City Using CNN with Stacked BiLSTM

The precise forecasting of electricity demand also referred to as load forecasting, is essential for both planning and managing a power system. It is crucial for many tasks, including choosing which power units to commit to, making plans for future power generation capacity, enhancing the power network, and controlling electricity consumption. As Bangladesh is a developing country, the electricity infrastructure is critical for economic growth and employment in this country. Accurate forecasting of electricity demand is crucial for ensuring that this country has a reliable and sustainable electricity supply to meet the needs of its growing population and economy. The complex and nonlinear behavior of such energy systems inhibits the creation of precise algorithms. Within this context, this paper aims to propose a hybrid model of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and stacked Bidirectional Long-short Term Memory (BiLSTM) architecture to perform an accurate short-term forecast of the electricity demand of Dhaka city. Short-term forecasting is ordinarily done to anticipate load for the following few hours to a few weeks. Normalization techniques have been also investigated because of the sensitivity of these models towards the input range. The proposed approach produced the best prediction results in comparison to the other benchmark models (LSTM, CNN- BiLSTM and CNN-LSTM) used in the study, with MAPE 1.64%, MSE 0.015, RMSE 0.122 and MAE 0.092. The result of the proposed model also outperformed some of the existing works on load-forecasting.

Modification and the Performance Enhancement of Solar Biomass Dryer

Drying is an important agricultural process, particularly for crops, and shriveled products are used all over the world. The performance of drying green chili was also tested in this article, which created an alternate way of drying agricultural products. The goal of this study is to provide a solar biomass hybrid dryer with improved design, construction, and performance testing. During most hours of the trial, the temperature within the solar collector and dryer was sufficiently higher than the ambient temperature, according to the results obtained during the test period. The temperature of the ambient air at the collector intake ranged from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the air at the collector's outlet ranged from 54 to 64 degrees Celsius, while the temperature of the drying chamber ranged from 51 to 60 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for drying green chili and a variety of other agricultural products. The collector was found to be 46.54 percent efficient. The findings revealed that the alteration of the collector, which produces turbulent air flow and improves chamber wall insulation, affects drying. Based on the results of this study, the created solar biomass hybrid drier is cost-effective for small-scale crop growers in rural areas of developing countries.

Adaptive Loss Scaling for Mixed Precision Training

Mixed precision training (MPT) is becoming a practical technique to improve the speed and energy efficiency of training deep neural networks by leveraging the fast hardware support for IEEE half-precision floating point that is available in existing GPUs. MPT is typically used in combination with a technique called loss scaling, that works by scaling up the loss value up before the start of backpropagation in order to minimize the impact of numerical underflow on training. Unfortunately, existing methods make this loss scale value a hyperparameter that needs to be tuned per-model, and a single scale cannot be adapted to different layers at different training stages. We introduce a loss scaling-based training method called adaptive loss scaling that makes MPT easier and more practical to use, by removing the need to tune a model-specific loss scale hyperparameter. We achieve this by introducing layer-wise loss scale values which are automatically computed during training to deal with underflow more effectively than existing methods. We present experimental results on a variety of networks and tasks that show our approach can shorten the time to convergence and improve accuracy compared to the existing state-of-the-art MPT and single-precision floating point

Impacts of different cumulus physics over south Asia region with case study tropical cyclone Viyaru

Tropical Cyclone Viyaru, formerly known as Cyclonic Storm Mahasen was a rapidly intensifying, category 01B storm that made landfall in Chittagong, Bangladesh on the 16th of May, 2013. In this study, the sensitivity of numerical simulations of tropical cyclone to cumulus physics parametrization is carried out with a view to determine the best cumulus physics option for prediction of the cyclones track, timing, and central pressure evolution in the Bay of Bengal. For this purpose, the tropical cyclone Viyaru has been simulated by WRF ARW in a nested domain with NCEP Global Final Analysis(FNL) data as initial and boundary conditions. The model domain consists of one parent domain and one nested domain. The resolution of the parent domain is 36 km while the nested domain has a resolution of 12 km. Five numerical simulations have been done with the same micro-physics scheme (WSM3), planetary boundary layer scheme,NOAH land surface scheme but different Cumulus Parametrization scheme. Four cumulus Parametrization schemes are KF, BMJ, GF and Tiedtke and one simulation was done without any cumulus physics scheme. The results of model simulations are compared with corresponding analysis or observation data. For best result data provided by Joint Typhoon Warning Center and NASA tropical cyclone center was used as observed for comparison. After the study it was found that tracks, intensity, wind speed, precipitation, and central pressure of the cyclone have sensitive result with different cumulus physics schemes.

Movie Popularity Classification based on Inherent Movie Attributes using C4.5,PART and Correlation Coefficient

Abundance of movie data across the internet makes it an obvious candidate for machine learning and knowledge discovery. But most researches are directed towards bi-polar classification of movie or generation of a movie recommendation system based on reviews given by viewers on various internet sites. Classification of movie popularity based solely on attributes of a movie i.e. actor, actress, director rating, language, country and budget etc. has been less highlighted due to large number of attributes that are associated with each movie and their differences in dimensions. In this paper, we propose classification scheme of pre-release movie popularity based on inherent attributes using C4.5 and PART classifier algorithm and define the relation between attributes of post release movies using correlation coefficient.

A Coherent Distributed Grid Service for Assimilation and Unification of Heterogeneous Data Source

Grid services are heavily used for handling large distributed computations. They are also very useful to handle heavy data intensive applications where data are distributed in different sites. Most of the data grid services used in such situations are meant for homogeneous data source. In case of Heterogeneous data sources, most of the grid services that are available are designed such a way that they must be identical in schema definition for their smooth operation. But there can be situations where the grid site databases are heterogeneous and their schema definition is different from the central schema definition. In this paper we propose a light weight coherent grid service for heterogeneous data sources that is very easily install. It can map and convert the central SQL schema into that of the grid members and send queries to get according results from heterogeneous data sources.
