Identifying strongly lensed gravitational wave signals from binary black hole mergers

Based on the rate of gravitational-wave (GW) detections by Advanced LIGO and Virgo, we expect these detectors to observe hundreds of binary black hole mergers as they achieve their design sensitivities (within a few years). A small fraction of them can undergo strong gravitational lensing by intervening galaxies, resulting in multiple images of the same signal. To a very good approximation, the lensing magnifies/de-magnifies these GW signals without affecting their frequency profiles. We develop a Bayesian inference technique to identify pairs of strongly lensed images among hundreds of binary black hole events and demonstrate its performance using simulated GW observations.

Subconvexity bound for $GL(2)$ L-functions: \lowercase{t}-aspect

Let $f $ be a holomorphic Hecke eigenform or a Hecke-Maass cusp form for the full modular group $ SL(2, \mathbb{Z})$. In this paper we shall use circle method to prove the Weyl exponent for $GL(2)$ $L$-functions. We shall prove that \[ L \left( \frac{1}{2} + it, f \right) \ll_{f, ε} \left( 2 + |t|\right)^{1/3 + ε}, \] for any $ε> 0.$

Bayesian Evidences for Dark Energy models in light of current obsevational data

We do a comprehensive study of the Bayesian evidences for a large number of dark energy models using a combination of latest cosmological data from SNIa, CMB, BAO, Strong lensing time delay, Growth measurements, measurements of Hubble parameter at different redshifts and measurements of angular diameter distance by Megamaser Cosmology Project . We consider a variety of scalar field models with different potentials as well as different parametrisations for the dark energy equation of state. Among 21 models that we consider in our study, we do not find strong evidences in favour of any evolving dark energy model compared to $Λ$CDM. For the evolving dark energy models, we show that purely non-phantom models have much better evidences compared to those models that allow both phantom and non-phantom behaviours. Canonical scalar field with exponential and tachyon field with square potential have highest evidences among all the models considered in this work. We also show that a combination of low redshift measurements decisively favours an accelerating $Λ$CDM model compared to a non-accelerating power law model.

Full-Duplex eNodeB and UE Design for 5G Networks

The recent progress in the area of self-interference cancellation (SIC) design has enabled the development of full-duplex (FD) single and multiple antenna systems. In this paper, we propose a design for FD eNodeB (eNB) and user equipment (UE) for 5G networks. The use of FD operation enables simultaneous in-band uplink and downlink operation and thereby cutting down the spectrum requirement by half. FD operation requires the same subcarrier allocation to UE in both uplink and downlink. Long Term Evolution LTE) uses orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) for downlink. To enable FD operation, we propose using single carrier frequency division multiple access SC-FDMA) for downlink along with the conventional method of using it for uplink. Taking advantage of channel reciprocity, singular value decomposition (SVD) based eamforming in the downlink allows multiple users (MU) to operate on same set of subcarriers. In uplink, frequency domain minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer along with successive interference cancellation with optimal ordering (SSIC-OO) algorithm is used to decouple signals of users operating in the same set of subcarriers. The work includes simulations showing efficient FD operation both at UE and eNB for downlink and uplink respectively.

Machine Learning Based Cooperative Relay Selection in Virtual MIMO

In cellular systems, virtual multiple-input multiple-output (V-MIMO) technology promises to achieve performance gains comparable to conventional MIMO. In this paper, we propose cooperative relay selection algorithm based on machine learning techniques. Willingness of user to cooperate in V-MIMO depends on his current battery power, time and day along with incentives offered by service provider. Every user has different criterion to participate in V-MIMO, but allows a specific behavior pattern. Therefore, it is required to predict willing users in the neighborhood of source user (SU), before selecting users as cooperative nodes. Only inactive users belonging to Virtual Antenna Array (VAA) cell of SU are assumed to cooperate. This reduces control overheads in cooperative node discovery. In this paper, we employ prediction algorithm using two machine learning techniques i.e. ANN and SVM to find out inactive willing users within VAA cell. The parameters such as MSE, accuracy, precision and recall are calculated to evaluate performance of ANN and SVM model. Prediction using ANN has MSE of 3% with average accuracy of 97% (variance 0.37), whereas SVM has MSE of 2.58% with average accuracy of 97.56% (variance 0.17). We also observe that proposed prediction method reduces the node discovery time by approximately 29%.

ScalPy: A Python Package For Late Time Scalar Field Cosmology

We present a python package "ScalPy" for studying the late time scalar field cosmology for a wide variety of scalar field models, namely the quintessence, tachyon and Galileon model. The package solves the autonomous system of equations for power law and exponential potential. But it can be easily generalized to add more complicated potential. For completeness, we also include the standard parameterization for dark energy models, e.g. the $Λ$CDM, $w$CDM, $w_{0}w_{a}$CDM as well as the GCG parameterization. The package also solves the linear growth equation for matter perturbations on sub-horizon scales. All the important observables related to background universe as well as to the perturbed universe, e.g. luminosity distance ($D_{L}(z)$), angular diameter distance ($D_{A}(z)$), normalized Hubble parameter ($h(z)$), lookback time ($t_{L}$), equation of state for the dark energy ($w(z)$), growth rate ($f=\frac{d \lnδ}{d \ln a}$), linear matter power spectra ($P(k)$), and its normalization $σ_{8}$ can be obtained from this package. The code is further integrated with the publicly available MCMC hammer "emcee" to constrain the different models using the presently available observational data. The code is available online at \url{https://github.com/sum33it/scalpy}

Clustering GCG: a viable option for unified dark matter-dark energy?

We study the clustering Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) as a possible candidate for dark matter-dark energy unification. The vanishing speed of sound ($c_{s}^2 = 0$) for the GCG fluid can be obtained by incorporating higher derivative operator in the original K-essence Lagrangian. The evolution of the density fluctuations in the GCG+Baryon fluid is studied in the linear regime. The observational constraints on the model are obtained using latest data from SNIa, $H(z)$, BAO and also for the $fσ_{8}$ measurements. The matter power spectra for the allowed parameter values are well behaved without any unphysical features.

Inflationary generalized Chaplygin gas and dark energy in the light of the Planck and BICEP2 experiments

In this work, we study an inflationary scenario in the presence of Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG). We show that in Einstein gravity, GCG is not a suitable candidate for inflation; but in a five dimensional brane world scenario, it can work as a viable inflationary model. We calculate the relevant quantities such as $n_{s}$, $r$ and $A_{s}$ related to the primordial scalar and tensor fluctuations, and using their recent bounds from Planck and BICEP2, we constrain the model parameters as well as the five-dimensional Planck mass. But as a slow-roll inflationary model with a power-law type scalar primordial power spectrum, GCG as an inflationary model can not resolve the tension between results from BICEP2 and Planck with a concordance $Λ$CDM Universe. We show that going beyond the concordance $Λ$CDM model and incorporating more general dark energy behaviour, this tension may be eased. We also obtain the constraints on the $n_{s}$ and $r$ and the GCG model parameters using Planck+WP+BICEP2 data considering the CPL dark energy behaviour.

Cosmological evolution in a two-brane warped geometry model

We study an effective 4-dimensional scalar-tensor field theory, originated from an underlying brane-bulk warped geometry, to explore the scenario of inflation. It is shown that the inflaton potential naturally emerges from the radion energy-momentum tensor which in turn results into an inflationary model of the Universe on the visible brane that is consistent with the recent results from the Planck's experiment. The dynamics of modulus stabilization from the inflaton rolling condition is demonstrated. The implications of our results in the context of recent BICEP2 results are also discussed.

Energy Aware Clustering Protocol(EACP) For Heterogeneous WSNs

Energy saving to prolong the network life is an important design issue while developing a new routing protocol for wireless sensor network. Clustering is a key technique for this and helps in maximizing the network lifetime and scalability. Most of the routing and data dissemination protocols of WSN assume a homogeneous network architecture, in which all sensors have the same capabilities in terms of battery power, communication, sensing, storage, and processing. Recently, there has been an interest in heterogeneous sensor networks, especially for real deployments. This research paper has proposed a new energy aware clustering protocol (EACP) for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. Heterogeneity is introduced in EACP by using two types of nodes: normal and advanced. In EACP cluster heads for normal nodes are elected with the help of a probability scheme based on residual and average energy of the normal nodes. This will ensure that only the high residual normal nodes can become the cluster head in a round. Advanced nodes use a separate probability based scheme for cluster head election and they will further act as a gateway for normal cluster heads and transmit their data load to base station when they are not doing the duty of a cluster head. Finally a sleep state is suggested for some sensor nodes during cluster formation phase to save network energy. The performance of EACP is compared with SEP and simulation result shows the better result for stability period, network life and energy saving than SEP.

Deviation From ΛCDM With Cosmic Strings Networks

In this work, we consider a network of cosmic strings to explain possible deviation from ΛCDM behaviour. We use different observational data to constrain the model and show that a small but non zero contribution from the string network is allowed by the observational data which can result in a reasonable departure from ΛCDM evolution. But by calculating the Bayesian Evidence, we show that the present data still strongly favour the concordance ΛCDM model irrespective of the choice of the prior.

Cosmology With Axionic-quintessence Coupled with Dark Matter

We study the possibility of explaining the late time acceleration with an axion field which is coupled with the dark matter sector of the energy budget of the Universe. The axion field arises from the Ramond-Ramond sector of the Type-IIB string theory. We study the background evolution of the Universe as well as the growth of the matter perturbation in the linear regime. We subsequently use the observational data from Sn-Ia, BAO measurements, measurements of the Hubble parameter as well as the observational data for the growth of the matter perturbation to constrain our model. Our results show that coupled axion models are allowed to have larger deviation from cosmological constant by the present observational data.

Isochronic Pendulum

The classic simple pendulum is a device which works as a simple harmonic oscillator (S.H.M.) only approximately. The time period remains fixed as long as the amplitude is kept sufficiently small. This limitation makes it unsatisfactory choice for practical time keeping purposes. The question addressed in this paper is regarding the modifications that can be made to the pendulum so that its time-period is independent of amplitude. Though the idea is not new, it is shown using rigorous mathematics that if the length of the suspension is suitably controlled so as to have a cycloidal path for the bob, this can be achieved.

Doubly Cognitive Architecture Based Cognitive Wireless Sensor Network

Nowadays scarcity of spectrum availability is increasing highly. Adding cognition to the existing Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) infrastructure will help in this situation. As sensor nodes in WSN are limited with some constrains like power, efforts are required to increase the lifetime and other performance measures of the network. In this paper we propose the idea of Doubly Cognitive WSN. The basic idea is to progressively allocate the sensing resources only to the most promising areas of the spectrum. This work is based on Artificial Neural Network as well as on Support Vector Machine (SVM) concept. As the load of sensing resource is reduced significantly, this approach will save the energy of the nodes, and also reduce the sensing time dramatically. The proposed work can be enhanced by doing the pattern analysis thing after a sufficiently long time again and again to review the strategy of sensing. Thus Doubly Cognitive WSN will enable current WSN to overcome the spectrum scarcity as well as save the energy of the sensor nodes.

Stage Staffing Scheme for Copyright Protection in Multimedia

Copyright protection has become a need in today's world. To achieve a secure copyright protection we embedded some information in images and videos and that image or video is called copyright protected. The embedded information can't be detected by human eye but some attacks and operations can tamper that information to breach protection. So in order to find a secure technique of copyright protection, we have analyzed image processing techniques i.e. Spatial Domain (Least Significant Bit (LSB)), Transform Domain (Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT)), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and there are numerous algorithm for watermarking using them. After having a good understanding of the same we have proposed a novel algorithm named as Stage Staffing Algorithm that generates results with high effectiveness, additionally we can use self extracted-watermark technique to increase the security and automate the process of watermark image. The proposed algorithm provides protection in three stages. We have implemented the algorithm and results of the simulations are shown. The various factors affecting spatial domain watermarking are also discussed.
