Phase Transitions in Primary Hair Planar Black Holes and Solitons

We present a new family of Ricci-flat black hole and soliton solutions with primary scalar hair in asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) space in $D$ dimensions. By solving the coupled Einstein-scalar field equations, we obtain analytic planar hairy black hole and soliton geometries. In these solutions, the scalar field and curvature scalars remain regular everywhere. We also derive analytic expressions for the mass and free energy, which indicate that the hairy soliton represents the ground state of the system. We further analyze the phase transitions between the hairy black hole and the hairy soliton, and find that there exists a first-order phase transition between them, with the transition point controlled by the ratio of the periods of Euclidean time and compact spacelike cycle. We further analyze how the scalar hair affects the transition temperature, and find that the temperature window in which the soliton phase remains preferred expands as the hair parameter increases. The hairy soliton solution obtained here is partly motivated by holographic QCD and may provide a useful gravitational background for modeling the confined phase of QCD from a bottom-up holographic perspective.

Probing Hairy Kerr Black Holes through Quasi-Periodic Oscillations I: A study based on the kinematic models

Black holes endowed with nontrivial scalar or matter fields, known as hairy black holes, possess additional parameters beyond mass, charge, and spin, leading to richer phenomenology. Constraining their parameter space is therefore essential, particularly in view of current electromagnetic and gravitational-wave observations. In this work, we study rotating hairy black hole solutions inspired by the gravitational decoupling method, which satisfy the Einstein field equations with a conserved energy-momentum tensor obeying the strong energy conditions. We explore in detail the horizon structure of such black holes and report for the first time certain unique features not observed in Kerr black holes. We examine how the hair parameters influence the fundamental frequencies governing particle motion in the hairy Kerr spacetime and compare these effects with the Kerr case. Since theoretical models of high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (HFQPOs) are directly linked to these fundamental frequencies, this provides a powerful observational probe of hairy black holes. By confronting several kinematic HFQPO models with observations from six black hole sources, we report that for most sources, the HFQPO data at the current level of precision cannot distinguish between the Kerr and hairy Kerr scenarios. However, based on agreement with previous spin estimates, our analysis provides a systematic framework to assess the relative suitability of different HFQPO models for each source. Notably, even with current observational precision, we find that both the Relativistic Precession Model and the Tidal Disruption Model appear unsuitable for the sources GRO J1655-40 and GRS 1915+105. The broader implications of these findings are discussed.

Spacetime Curvature as a Probe of Exotic Core Phases in Neutron Stars within Modified Gravity

In this study, we investigate the effect of Energy-Momentum Squared Gravity (EMSG) on the curvature of neutron stars (NSs) by using three relativistic mean-field (RMF) equations of state (EOSs) and three hadron-quark phase transition (HQPT) EOSs. Neutron stars, with their extreme densities and strong gravitational fields, provide an ideal laboratory for testing General Relativity (GR) in the high-curvature regime and for exploring possible deviations via modified gravity. EMSG extends GR by including nonlinear terms involving the energy-momentum tensor, characterized by a coupling parameter $\alpha$. We focus on the Kretschmann, Ricci, and Weyl curvature scalars, analyzing their dependence on baryon density and radial coordinate for varying values of $\alpha$. Our results indicate that EMSG can significantly alter the curvature profiles of neutron stars. In particular, the magnitude of both Weyl and Kretschmann scalars increases (decreases) for a positive (negative) EMSG parameter, with the former exhibiting a larger dependence. Similarly, the surface curvature (SC) is notably affected by $\alpha$. Interestingly, we further observe distinct discontinuities in the curvature profiles at hadron-quark phase transitions, especially in the soft and intermediate HQPT models. These signatures may provide observable imprints of exotic core phases in neutron stars.

Probing Quarkonium Diffusion in a Magnetized Quark-Gluon Plasma

Motivated by the potential experimental relevance of magnetically affected heavy-quark diffusion, we consider here a five-dimensional nonlinear Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton model to not only holographically model the QCD thermodynamics in a magnetic background, but also to probe the charged inner structure of a heavy quarkonium. The dual model's gravitational equations of motion can be solved in analytical form via the potential reconstruction method. Using a variety of tools -- spectral functions, hydrodynamic expansions or hanging strings -- we study the anisotropic diffusion constants and heavy-quark number susceptibility, each time reporting closed form expressions.

Comparative study of the butterfly velocity in holographic QCD models at finite temperature and chemical potential

In this work, we study quantum chaos in a variety of holographic QCD models at finite temperature and chemical potentials. This includes the 1 R-Charge black hole (1RCBH) model, the 2 R-Charge black hole (2RCBH) model, a potential reconstruction-based analytic bottom-up model, and a numerical bottom-up model. All these models are different avatars of the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity action, distinguished by their specific choices of dilaton potentials and gauge-kinetic coupling functions. We focus on computing the chaos parameter, the butterfly velocity, using three distinct methods: entanglement wedge reconstruction, out-of-time-ordered correlators (OTOCs), and pole-skipping. We show that all three methods yield identical results for the butterfly velocity across all the holographic QCD models considered, further establishing the equivalence between the three approaches. Furthermore, we analyze in detail the behavior of the butterfly velocity as a function of chemical potential and temperature. Interestingly, a universal trend emerges across all models: the butterfly velocity increases/decreases with temperature/chemical potential for thermodynamically stable phases. Additionally, in the high-temperature limit, the butterfly velocity in all models approaches that of the chargeless plasma.

Holographic QCD model for heavy and exotic mesons at finite density: A self-consistent dynamical approach

We present a self-consistent dynamical holographic QCD model to investigate the mass spectra and melting behavior of heavy and exotic mesons at finite temperature and finite density. Our approach is based on the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) framework and incorporates an elsewhere already introduced, albeit by hand, phenomenological non-quadratic dilaton profile. This allows one to capture the non-linear Regge trajectories of heavy-flavor mesons and model certain exotic states. We show how to construct such models by actually solving the coupled Einstein, Maxwell, and dilaton field equations, ensuring mathematical self-consistency to replace any ad-hoc input. At finite temperature, we analyze the confinement-deconfinement transition via a Hawking-Page phase transition. We compute the spectral functions, revealing the sequential melting of quarkonia as the temperature is increased. Extending to finite density, we explore the impact of baryon chemical potential on meson stability, showing significant modifications in spectral peaks and effective potentials that indicate a more rapid melting of mesonic states as the chemical potential increases in the deconfined phase. The dual of the small/large black hole transition now indicates towards a first order phase transition line ending at a second order critical point. Interestingly, the spectral functions smoothly cross this phase transition line.

Interplay of magnetic field and chemical potential induced anisotropy and frame dependent chaos of a $Q\bar{Q}$ pair in holographic QCD

We investigate the role of both magnetic field and chemical potential on the emergence of chaotic dynamics in the QCD confining string from the holographic principle. An earlier developed bottom-up model of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity, which mimics QCD features quite well, is used. The qualitative information about the chaos is obtained using the Poincar\'{e} sections and Lyapunov exponents. We find signatures of chaos in energetically disfavored string configurations, that are closer to the horizon, whereas no chaos is observed in energetically favored string configurations that are away from the horizon. Our results depend quite strongly on the frame we consider in the analysis. In the string frame, the chemical potential and the magnetic field suppress the chaotic dynamics in both parallel and perpendicular orientations of the string with respect to the magnetic field. Meanwhile, in the Einstein frame, the magnetic field suppresses/enhances the chaotic dynamics when the string is orientated perpendicular/parallel to the magnetic field, while the chemical potential enhances the chaotic dynamics for both orientations. The reported Lyapunov exponents are consistent with a classical analogue of the MSS bound in the parameter space of the model and we find it to be always satisfied in both frames.

Classical and quantum chaos of closed strings on a charged confining holographic background

We discuss the classical and quantum chaos of closed strings on a recently constructed charged confining holographic background. The confining background corresponds to the charged soliton, which is a solution of minimal $d=5$ gauged supergravity. The solution has a compact spacelike direction with a Wilson line on a circle and asymptotes to $AdS_5$ with a planar boundary. For the classical case, we analyze the chaos using the power spectrum, Poincar\'{e} sections, and Lyapunov exponents, finding that both energy and charge play constructive effects on enhancing the chaotic nature of the system. We similarly analyze quantum chaos using the distribution of the spectrum's level-spacing and out-of-time-ordered correlators and thoroughly investigate the effects of charge and energy. A gradual transition from a chaotic to an integrable regime is obtained as the energy and charge increase from lower to higher values, with charge playing a subdominant role.

A note on the holographic time-like entanglement entropy in Lifshitz theory

We explore the holographic time-like entanglement entropy (TEE) in the boundary theory of three-dimensional Lifshitz spacetime. There have been various holographic proposals for TEE in recent years and we test those proposals in the Lifshitz background. We obtain the analytic result for TEE in each proposal, compare the results, and analyze how the anisotropic scaling affects the TEE. We find that different holographic proposals give the same result for TEE in the Lifshitz background. Our analysis further suggests that the TEE of the Lifshitz system contains real and imaginary parts, both of which depend on the anisotropic parameter.

A dynamical Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton model and holographic quarkonium melting in a magnetic field

We generalize the potential reconstruction method to set up a dynamical Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton model, which we then use to study holographic quarkonium melting in an external magnetic field. The non-linear nature of the model allows to couple the magnetic field to the quarkonium inner structure without having to introduce back-reacting charged flavour degrees of freedom. The magnetic field dependent melting temperature is computed from the spectral functions and suggests a switch from inverse magnetic to magnetic catalysis when the magnetic field increases. We also discuss the differences due to the anisotropy brought in by the external field.

Interplay between the Lyapunov exponents and phase transitions of charged AdS black holes

We study the relationship between the standard or extended thermodynamic phase structure of various AdS black holes and the Lyapunov exponents associated with the null and time-like geodesics. We consider dyonic, Bardeen, Gauss-Bonnet, and Lorentz-symmetry breaking massive gravity black holes and calculate the Lyapunov exponents of massless and massive particles in unstable circular geodesics close to the black hole. We find that the thermal profile of the Lyapunov exponents exhibits distinct behaviour in the small and large black hole phases and can encompass certain aspects of the van der Waals type small/large black hole phase transition. We further analyse the properties of Lyapunov exponents as an order parameter and find that its critical exponent is $1/2$, near the critical point for all black holes considered here.

Analytic three-dimensional primary hair charged black holes with Coulomb-like electrodynamics and their thermodynamics

We construct and discuss new solutions of primary hair charged black holes in asymptotically Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space that have well-defined Coulomb-like potential in three dimensions. The gauge field source to the Einstein equation is a power-Maxwell nonlinear electrodynamics with traceless energy-momentum tensor. The coupled Einstein-power-Maxwell-scalar gravity system, which carries the coupling $f(\phi)$ between the gauge and scalar fields, is analyzed, and hairy charged black hole solutions are found analytically. We consider three different profiles of the coupling functions: (i) $f(\phi)=1$, corresponding to no direct coupling between the gauge and scalar fields, (ii) $f(\phi)=e^{\phi}$, and (iii) $f(\phi)=e^{\phi^2/2}$, corresponding to their non-minimal coupling. For all these cases, the scalar field, gauge fields, and curvature scalars are regular and well-behaved everywhere outside the horizon. We further study the thermodynamics of the obtained hairy black hole in the canonical and grand-canonical ensembles and find significant changes in its thermodynamic structure due to the scalar field. In particular, for all considered coupling functions, the hairy parameter has a critical value above which the hairy black hole undergoes the Hawking/Page phase transition, whereas below which no such phase transition appears.

Analytic three-dimensional primary hair charged black holes and thermodynamics

We present and discuss new families of primary hair charged black hole solutions in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space in three dimensions. The coupled Einstein-Maxwell-scalar gravity system, that carries the coupling $f(\phi)$ between the scalar and Maxwell fields is solved, and exact hairy black hole solutions are obtained analytically. The hairy solutions are obtained for three different profiles of the coupling function: (i) $f(\phi)=1$, corresponding to no direct coupling between the scalar and Maxwell fields, (ii) $f(\phi)=e^{-\phi}$, and (iii) $f(\phi)=e^{-\phi^2/2}$; corresponding to non-minimal coupling between them. For all these couplings the scalar field and curvature scalars are regular everywhere outside the horizon. We analyze the thermodynamics of the hairy black hole and find drastic changes in its thermodynamic structure due to the scalar field. For $f(\phi)=1$, there exists a critical value of the hairy parameter above which the charged hairy black hole exhibits the Hawking/Page phase transition, whereas no such phase transition occurs below this critical value. Similarly, for $f(\phi)=e^{-\phi}$ and $f(\phi)=e^{-\phi^2/2}$, the hairy solution exhibits a small/large black hole phase transition for above critical values of the hairy parameter. Interestingly, for these couplings, the thermodynamic phase diagram of three-dimensional hairy charged black holes resembles that of a higher-dimensional RN-AdS black hole, albeit with two second-order critical points.

Anisotropic and frame dependent chaos of suspended strings from a dynamical holographic QCD model with magnetic field

We investigate both from a qualitative as well as quantitative perspective the emergence of chaos in the QCD confining string in a magnetic field from a holographic viewpoint. We use an earlier developed bottom-up solution of the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton action that mimics QCD and its thermodynamics quite well. Surprisingly, our predictions depend on the used frame: the magnetic field tends to suppress the chaos in both perpendicular and parallel directions relative to the magnetic field in the string frame whilst in the Einstein frame, the chaos suppression only happens in the perpendicular direction, with an enhanced chaos along the magnetic field. The amount of suppression/enhancement in both frames does depend on the relative orientation of the string and magnetic field.

Bounding entanglement wedge cross sections

The entanglement wedge cross sections (EWCSs) are postulated as dual gravity probes to certain measures for the entanglement of multiparty systems. We test various proposed inequalities for EWCSs. As it turns out, contrary to expectations, the EWCS is not clearly monogamous nor polygamous for tripartite systems but the results depend on the details and dimensionality of the geometry of the gravity solutions. We propose weaker monogamy relations for dual entanglement measures, which lead to a new lower bound on EWCS. Our work is based on a plethora of gravity backgrounds: pure anti de Sitter spaces, anti de Sitter black branes, those induced by a stack of Dp-branes, and cigar geometries in generic dimension.

Holographic confining/deconfining gauge theories and entanglement measures with a magnetic field

We study various holographic pure and mixed state entanglement measures in the confined/deconfined phases of a bottom-up AdS/QCD model in the presence of a background magnetic field. We analyse the entanglement entropy, entanglement wedge cross-section, mutual information, and entanglement negativity and investigate how a background magnetic field leaves its imprints on the entanglement structure of these measures. Due to the anisotropy introduced by the magnetic field, we find that the behaviour of these measures depends nontrivially on the relative orientation of the strip with respect to the field. In the confining phase, the entanglement entropy and negativity undergo a phase transition at the same critical strip length, the magnitude of which increases/decreases for parallel/perpendicular orientation of the magnetic field. The entanglement wedge cross-section similarly displays discontinuous behaviour each time a phase transition between different entangling surfaces occurs, while further exhibiting anisotropic features with a magnetic field. We further find that the magnetic field also introduces substantial changes in the entanglement measures of the deconfined phase, however, these changes remain qualitatively similar for all orientations of the magnetic field. We further study the inequality involving entanglement wedge and mutual information and find that the former always exceeds half of the latter everywhere in the parameter space of the confined/deconfined phases.

Rotating hairy black holes and thermodynamics from gravitational decoupling

We study the method of extended gravitational decoupling in obtaining static black hole solutions satisfying Einstein's equations with a tensor vacuum. The source has quite generic characteristics and satisfies the strong energy condition. The stationary, axisymmetric counterpart of the static metric is obtained by applying the Newman-Janis and Azreg-A\"{i}nou algorithms. The thermodynamics of the rotating solution is studied and the expressions of various thermodynamic quantities are derived. The dependence of the temperature, free energy and specific heat on the horizon radius is studied for various values of the hairy parameter and the black hole spin. Such a study reveals that small hairy black holes are thermodynamically more stable compared to large hairy black holes, and that the horizon radius and temperature range for which the rotating hairy black holes can be in thermodynamic equilibrium with the surroundings depends non-trivially on the hairy parameters. We further discuss the first law of black hole thermodynamics for the hairy case and discuss its implications.

Entropic force and real-time dynamics of holographic quarkonium in a magnetic field

We continue the study of a recently constructed holographic QCD model supplemented with magnetic field. We consider the holographic dual of a quark, anti-quark pair and investigate its entropy beyond the deconfinement phase transition in terms of interquark distance, temperature and magnetic field. We obtain a clear magnetic field dependence in the strongly decreasing entropy near deconfinement and in the entropy variation for growing interquark separation. We uncover various supporting evidences for inverse magnetic catalysis. The emergent entropic force is found to become stronger with magnetic field, promoting the quarkonium dissociation. We also probe the dynamical dissociation of the quarkonium state, finding a faster dissociation with magnetic field. At least the static predictions should become amenable to a qualitative comparison with future lattice data.
