Perfect powers in the product of denominators of elliptic curves

We use sieving arguments to estimate the frequency of $s$-tuples of rational points $$(P_1,\dots,P_s)\in E_1(\mathbb{Q})\times\cdots\times E_s(\mathbb{Q}),$$ where $E_1,\dots,E_s$ are (not necessarily distinct) elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$, for which the product of their denominators is a perfect $\ell$th power for a fixed prime $\ell$. We consider two settings: one in which the points are of the form $n_iP_i+Q_i$ with $n_i$ ranging over an interval, and another in which we take arbitrary points of bounded canonical height. In the special case where all $Q_i$ are the points at infinity, we also obtain better estimates by using a version of the elliptic sieve with elliptic divisibility sequences. Consequently, we derive analogues of these results for various rational functions, providing elliptic analogues of R. de la Bret\`eche, P. Kurlberg and I. E. Shparlinski (2021).

Multiplicative dependence in the denominators of points of elliptic curves

Let $E_1, \ldots, E_s $ be $s$, not necessary distinct, elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$. We give upper bounds on the frequency of $s$-tuples of points in $E_1(\mathbb{Q})\times \ldots \times E_s(\mathbb{Q})$ whose denominators or $x$-coordinates are multiplicatively dependent. More precisely, we give such bounds in two scenarios: one in which we fix $s$ non-torsion $\mathbb{Q}$-rational points $P_i \in E_i(\mathbb{Q})$ and arbitrary $\mathbb{Q}$-rational points $Q_i \in E_i(\mathbb{Q})$, $i =1, \ldots, s$, and we count $s$-tuples \[ (n_1P_1+Q_1,\ldots, n_sP_s+Q_s) \in E_1(\mathbb{Q}) \times \ldots \times E_s(\mathbb{Q}) \] with $n_1, \ldots, n_s$ in an arbitrary interval of length $N$, and the second in which we count points $(P_1,\ldots,P_s) \in E_1(\mathbb{Q}) \times \ldots \times E_s(\mathbb{Q})$ of bounded canonical height.

Character sums of Division polynomials twisted by multiplicative functions

Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$, and $P \in E(\mathbb{F}_p)$ be an $\mathbb{F}_p$-rational point. We obtain nontrivial estimates for multiplicative character sums associated with the division polynomials $\psi_n(P)$ twisted by several multiplicative functions, where $\psi_n(P)$ denotes the $n$-th division polynomial evaluated at $P$.

On the correlations between character sums of division polynomials under shifts

Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$, and $P \in E(\mathbb{F}_p)$ be an $\mathbb{F}_p$-rational point. We study the sums \[ S_{\chi,P}(N,h) = \sum_{n=1}^N \chi(\psi_n(P)) \chi(\psi_{n+h}(P)), \] where $\psi_n(P)$ denotes the $n$-th division polynomial evaluated at $P$, and $\chi$ is a multiplicative character of $\mathbb{F}_p^{*}$. We estimate $S_{\chi,P}(N,h)$ on average over $h$ over a rather short interval $h \in [1, H]$. We also obtain a multidimensional generalisation of this result.

On quantum ergodicity for higher dimensional cat maps modulo prime powers

A discrete model of quantum ergodicity of linear maps generated by symplectic matrices $A \in \mathrm{Sp}(2d,\mathbb{Z})$ modulo an integer $N\ge 1$, has been studied for $d=1$ and almost all $N$ by P. Kurlberg and Z. Rudnick (2001). Their result has been strengthened by J. Bourgain (2005) and subsequently by A. Ostafe, I. E. Shparlinski, and J. F. Voloch (2023). For arbitrary $d$ this has been studied by P. Kurlberg, A. Ostafe, Z. Rudnick and I. E. Shparlinski (2024). The corresponding equidistribution results, for certain eigenfunctions, share the same feature: they apply to almost all moduli $N$ and are unable to provide an explicit construction of such ``good'' values of $N$. Here, using a bound of I. E. Shparlinski (1978) on exponential sums with linear recurrence sequences modulo a power of a fixed prime, we construct such an explicit sequence of $N$, with a power saving on the discrepancy.

Exponential Sums with Sparse Polynomials and Distribution of the Power Generator

We obtain new bounds on complete rational exponential sums with sparse polynomials modulo a prime, under some mild conditions on the degrees of the monomials of such polynomials. These bounds, when they apply, give explicit versions of a result of J. Bourgain (2005). In turn, as an application, we also obtain an explicit version of a result of J. Bourgain (2010) on national exponential sums with sparse polynomials modulo an arbitrary composite number. We then use one of these bounds to study the multidimensional distribution of the classical power generator of pseudorandom numbers, which has not been possible within previously known results.

On an indivisibility version of Iizuka's conjecture

Iizuka's conjecture predicts that, given $m \in \mathbb{N}$ and a prime $p$, there exists infinitely many integers $n$ such that the class numbers of \textit{all} of the following quadratic number fields, \[ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{n}),\ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{n+1}),\ \ldots,\ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{n+m}), \] are divisible by $p$. In this article, given $k$ and $m$, we study the proportion of $n$ such that the class numbers of \textit{none} of the successive fields \[ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{n}),\ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{n+1}),\ \ldots,\ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{n+m}), \] are divisible by \( 3^k \). Moreover, we study the proportion of imaginary biquadratic fields whose class numbers are not divisible by $3$.

Watkins's conjecture for elliptic curves with a rational torsion

Watkins's conjecture suggests that for an elliptic curve $E/\mathbb{Q}$, the rank of the group $E(\mathbb{Q})$ of rational points is bounded above by $\nu_2 (m_E)$, where $m_E$ is the modular degree associated with $E$. It is known that Watkins's conjecture holds on average. This article investigates the conjecture over certain thin families of elliptic curves. For example, for prime $\ell$, we quantify the elliptic curves featuring a rational $\ell$-torsion that satisfies Watkins's conjecture. Additionally, the study extends to a broader context, investigating the inequality $\mathrm{rank}(E(\mathbb{Q}))+M\leq \nu_2(m_E)$ for any positive integer $M$.

Modular degree and a conjecture of Watkins

Given an elliptic curve $E/\mathbb{Q}$ of conductor $N$, there exists a surjective morphism $\phi_E: X_0(N) \to E$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$. In this article, we discuss the growth of $\mathrm{deg}(\phi_E)$ and shed some light on Watkins's conjecture, which predicts $2^{\mathrm{rank}(E(\mathbb{Q}))} \mid \mathrm{deg}(\phi_E)$. Moreover, for any elliptic curve over $\mathbb{F}_q(T)$, we have an analogous modular parametrization relating to the Drinfeld modular curves. In this case, we also discuss growth and the divisibility properties.

Congruence classes for modular forms over small sets

J.P. Serre showed that for any integer $m,~a(n)\equiv 0 \pmod m$ for almost all $n,$ where $a(n)$ is the $n^{\text{th}}$ Fourier coefficient of any modular form with rational coefficients. In this article, we consider a certain class of cuspforms and study $\#\{a(n) \pmod m\}_{n\leq x}$ over the set of integers with $O(1)$ many prime factors. Moreover, we show that any residue class $a\in \mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$ can be written as the sum of at most thirteen Fourier coefficients, which are polynomially bounded as a function of $m.$

Lifting of vector-valued automorphic forms

Recently, the first author [1] showed that the admissible vector-valued automorphic forms lift to the admissible ones. In this article, we study the lifts for the logarithmic vector-valued automorphic forms and explicitly compute the Fourier coefficients of the lifted vector-valued automorphic forms.

The elliptic sieve and Brauer groups

A theorem of Serre states that almost all plane conics over $\mathbb{Q}$ have no rational point. We prove an analogue of this for families of conics parametrised by elliptic curves using elliptic divisibility sequences and a version of the Selberg sieve for elliptic curves. We also give more general results for specialisations of Brauer groups, which yields applications to norm form equations.

Galois representations and composite moduli

It is known that for any elliptic curve $E/\mathbb{Q}$ and any integer $m$ co-prime to $30,$ the induced Galois representation $\rho_{E,m}: \text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q}) \longrightarrow \text{GL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z})$ is surjective if and only if $\rho_{E,\ell}$ is surjective for any prime $\ell|m.$ In this article, we shall discuss some generalizations, applications, and variants of this phenomenon.

Growth of Fourier coefficients of vector-valued automorphic forms

In this article, we establish polynomial-growth bound for the sequence of Fourier coefficients associated to even integer weight vector-valued automorphic forms of Fuchsian groups of the first kind. At the end, their $L$-functions and exponential sums have been discussed.

Exponential sums in prime fields for modular forms

The main objective of this article is to study the exponential sums associated to Fourier coefficients of modular forms supported at numbers having a fixed set of prime factors. This is achieved by establishing an improvement on Shparlinski's bound for exponential sums attached to certain recurrence sequences over finite fields.

Distribution of Non-Wieferich primes in certain algebraic groups under ABC

Under ABC, Silverman showed that there are infinitely many non-Wieferich primes with respect to any (non-trivial) base $a$. Recently Srinivas and Subramani proved an analogous result over number fields with trivial class group. In the first part of this article, we extend their result to any arbitrary number fields. Secondly, we give an asymptotic lower bound for the number of non-Wieferich prime ideals. Furthermore, we show a lower bound of same order is achievable for non-Wieferich prime ideals having norm congruent to $1 \pmod k.$ Lastly, we generalize Silverman's work for elliptic curves over arbitrary number fields following the treatment by K\"uhn and M\"uller.

Virtual characters on L-functions

In this expository note we show the inception and development of the Heilbronn characters and their application to the holomorphy of quotients of Artin L-functions. Further we use arithmetic Heilbronn characters introduced by Wong, to deal with holomorphy of quotients of certain L-functions, e.g,, L-functions associated to CM elliptic curves. Furthermore we use the supercharacter theory introduced by Diaconis and Isaacs to study Artin L-functions associated to such characters. We conclude the note surveying about various other unconditional approaches taken based on character theory of finite groups.
