Cell modules for the Temperley-Lieb algebra in mixed characteristic

We study the representation theory of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $\mathsf{TL}_n^k(\delta)$ in mixed characteristic, i.e. over an arbitrary field $k$ of characteristic $p$ and where $\delta$ satisfies some minimal polynomial $m_\delta$. In particular, we completely describe the submodule structure of cell modules for $\mathsf{TL}_n$ and give their Alperin diagrams. The proof is entirely diagrammatic and does not appeal to the role of $\mathsf{TL}_n$ as the endomorphism algebra of tensor powers of the fundamental representation of $\textbf{U}_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. We also investigate two-dimensional Jantzen-like filtrations of the cell modules related to the mixed characteristic.

Lowering operators, orthogonal decomposition of tensor space, and quantized Schur--Weyl duality

For $q$ generic, Jimbo showed that $q$-tensor space $V_q^{\otimes r}$ (where $V_q$ is the $n$-dimensional vector representation) satisfies Schur--Weyl duality with respect to the commuting actions of the quantized enveloping algebra $\mathbf{U}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ and the Iwahori--Hecke algebra $\mathbf{H}_q(\mathfrak{S}_r)$, with the latter action derived from the $R$-matrix. In the limit as $q \to 1$, one recovers classical Schur--Weyl duality. Using a recursive construction of certain linear combinations $\Psi_j$ of Coxeter monomials in the negative part of $\mathbf{U}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$, we give a combinatorial realization of the corresponding isotypic semisimple decomposition of $V_q^{\otimes r}$, indexed by paths in the Bratteli diagram. This extends earlier work (Journal of Algebra 2024) of the first two authors for the case $n =2$. Our construction works over any field containing a non-zero element $q$ which is not a root of unity. The element $\Psi_j$ depends on a weight $\lambda$ and is the ``evaluation at $\lambda$'' of a certain $q$-lowering operator $\overline{\Psi}_j$ satisfying a similar recursion, up to renormalization. This simplifies the construction of lowering operators. Both $\Psi_j$ and $\overline{\Psi}_j$ are independent of a choice of root vectors. On the other hand, the $\Psi_j$ can be applied to construct root vectors (independent of the braid group action) as explicit linear combinations of Coxeter monomials.

Cell Modules for Type $A$ Webs

We examine the cell modules for the category of type An webs and their natural cellular forms. We modify the bases of these modules, as described by Elias, to obtain an orthogonal basis of each cell module. Hence, we calculate the determinant of the Gram matrix with respect to such bases. These Gram determinants are given in terms of intersection forms, computed from certain traces of clasps - higher order Jones-Wenzl morphisms. Additionally, the modified basis is constructed using these clasps, and each clasp is constructed using traces of smaller clasps. Elias conjectures a value for these intersection forms and verifies it in types $A_1$, $A_2$ and $A_3$. This paper concludes with a proof of the conjecture in type $A_n$.

$(\ell,p)$-Jones-Wenzl Idempotents

The Jones-Wenzl idempotents of the Temperley-Lieb algebra are celebrated elements defined over characteristic zero and for generic loop parameter. Given pointed field $(R, \delta)$, we extend the existing results of Burrull, Libedinsky and Sentinelli to determine a recursive form for the idempotents describing the projective cover of the trivial ${\rm TL}_n^R(\delta)$-module.

On the Schaper Number of Partitions

One of the most useful tools for calculating the decomposition numbers of the symmetric group is Schaper's sum formula. The utility of this formula for a given Specht module can be improved by knowing the Schaper Number of the corresponding partition. Fayers gives a characterisation of those partitions whose Schaper number is at least two. In this paper we shall demonstrate how this knowledge can be used to calculate some decomposition numbers before extending this result with the hope of allowing more decomposition numbers to be calculated in the future. For $p=2$ we shall give a complete characterisation of partitions whose Schaper number is at least three, and those whose Schaper number at least four. We also present a list of necessary conditions for a partition to have Schaper number at least three for odd primes and a conjecture on the sufficiency of these conditions.

Integral Schur-Weyl duality for partition algebras

Let $V$ be a free module of rank $n$ over a commutative unital ring $k$. We prove that tensor space $V^{\otimes r}$ satisfies Schur--Weyl duality, regarded as a bimodule for the action of the group algebra of the Weyl group of $\mathrm{GL}(V)$ and the partition algebra $P_r(n)$ over $k$. We also prove a similar result for the half partition algebra.

An integral second fundamental theorem of invariant theory for partition algebras

We prove that the kernel of the action the group algebra of the Weyl group acting on tensor space (via restriction of the action from the general linear group) is a cell ideal with respect to the alternating Murphy basis. This provides an analogue of the second fundamental theory of invariant theory for the partition algebra over an arbitrary commutative ring and proves that the centraliser algebras of the partition algebra are cellular. We also prove similar results for the half partition algebras.

On the $p'$-subgraph of the Young graph

Let $p$ be a prime number. In this article we study the restriction to $\mathfrak{S}_{n-1}$ of irreducible characters of degree coprime to $p$ of $\mathfrak{S}_n$. In particular, we study the combinatorial properties of the subgraph $\mathbb{Y}_{p'}$ of the Young graph $\mathbb{Y}$. This is an extension to odd primes of the work done by Ayyer, Prasad and Spallone for $p=2$.

Hook modules for general linear groups

For an arbitrary infinite field k of characteristic p > 0, we describe the structure of a block of the algebraic monoid M_n(k) (all n x n matrices over k), or, equivalently, a block of the Schur algebra S(n,p), whose simple modules are indexed by p-hook partitions. The result is known; we give an elementary and self-contained proof, based only on a result of Peel and Donkin's description of the blocks of Schur algebras. The result leads to a character formula for certain simple GL_n(k)-modules, valid for all n and all p. This character formula is a special case of one found by Brundan, Kleshchev, and Suprunenko and, independently, by Mathieu and Papadopoulo.
