Weak error on the densities for the Euler scheme of stable additive SDEs with H{\"o}lder drift

We are interested in the Euler-Maruyama dicretization of the SDE dXt =b(t,Xt)dt+ dZt, X0 =x$\in$Rd, where Zt is a symmetric isotropic d-dimensional $\alpha$-stable process, $\alpha$ $\in$ (1, 2] and the drift b $\in$ L$\infty$ ([0,T],C$\beta$(Rd,Rd)), $\beta$ $\in$ (0,1), is bounded and H{\"o}lder regular in space. Using an Euler scheme with a randomization of the time variable, we show that, denoting $\gamma$\,:= $\alpha$ + $\beta$ -- 1, the weak error on densities related to this discretization converges at the rate $\gamma$/$\alpha$.

Weak Well-Posedness of Multidimensional Stable Driven SDEs in the Critical Case

We establish weak well-posedness for critical symmetric stable driven SDEs in R d with additive noise Z, d $\ge$ 1. Namely, we study the case where the stable index of the driving process Z is $\alpha$ = 1 which exactly corresponds to the order of the drift term having the coefficient b which is continuous and bounded. In particular, we cover the cylindrical case when Zt = (Z 1 t ,. .. , Z d t) and Z 1 ,. .. , Z d are independent one dimensional Cauchy processes. Our approach relies on L p-estimates for stable operators and uses perturbative arguments. 1. Statement of the problem and main results We are interested in proving well-posedness for the martingale problem associated with the following SDE: (1.1) X t = x + t 0 b(X s)ds + Z t , where (Z s) s$\ge$0 stands for a symmetric d-dimensional stable process of order $\alpha$ = 1 defined on some filtered probability space ($\Omega$, F, (F t) t$\ge$0 , P) (cf. [2] and the references therein) under the sole assumptions of continuity and boundedness on the vector valued coefficient b: (C) The drift b : R d $\rightarrow$ R d is continuous and bounded. 1 Above, the generator L of Z writes: L$\Phi$(x) = p.v. R d \{0} [$\Phi$(x + z) -- $\Phi$(x)]$\nu$(dz), x $\in$ R d , $\Phi$ $\in$ C 2 b (R d), $\nu$(dz) = d$\rho$ $\rho$ 2$\mu$ (d$\theta$), z = $\rho$$\theta$, ($\rho$, $\theta$) $\in$ R * + x S d--1. (1.2) (here $\times$, $\times$ (or $\times$) and | $\times$ | denote respectively the inner product and the norm in R d). In the above equation, $\nu$ is the L{\'e}vy intensity measure of Z, S d--1 is the unit sphere of R d and$\mu$ is a spherical measure on S d--1. It is well know, see e.g. [20] that the L{\'e}vy exponent $\Phi$ of Z writes as: (1.3) $\Phi$($\lambda$) = E[exp(i $\lambda$, Z 1)] = exp -- S d--1 | $\lambda$, $\theta$ |$\mu$(d$\theta$) , $\lambda$ $\in$ R d , where $\mu$ = c 1$\mu$ , for a positive constant c 1 , is the so-called spectral measure of Z. We will assume some non-degeneracy conditions on $\mu$. Namely we introduce assumption (ND) There exists $\kappa$ $\ge$ 1 s.t. (1.4) $\forall$$\lambda$ $\in$ R d , $\kappa$ --1 |$\lambda$| $\le$ S d--1 | $\lambda$, $\theta$ |$\mu$(d$\theta$) $\le$ $\kappa$|$\lambda$|. 1 The boundedness of b is here assumed for technical simplicity. Our methodology could apply, up to suitable localization arguments, to a drift b having linear growth.

Strong regularization by Brownian noise propagating through a weak H{\"o}rmander structure

We establish strong uniqueness for a class of degenerate SDEs of weak H{\"o}rmander type under suitable H{\"o}lder regularity conditions for the associated drift term. Our approach relies on the Zvonkin transform which requires to exhibit good smoothing properties of the underlying parabolic PDE with rough, here H{\"o}lder, drift coefficients and source term. Such regularizing effects are established through a perturbation technique (forward parametrix approach) which also heavily relies on appropriate duality properties on Besov spaces. For the method employed, we exhibit some sharp thresholds on the H{\"o}lder exponents for the strong uniqueness to hold.

Regularization effects of a noise propagating through a chain of differential equations: an almost sharp result

We investigate the effects of the propagation of a non-degenerate Brownian noise through a chain of deterministic differential equations whose coefficients are rough and satisfy a weak like H{\"o}rmander structure (i.e. a non-degeneracy condition w.r.t. the components which transmit the noise). In particular we characterize, through suitable counterexamples , almost sharp regularity exponents that ensure that weak well posedness holds for the associated SDE. As a by-product of our approach, we also derive some density estimates of Krylov type for the weak solutions of the considered SDEs.

Non-Asymptotic Gaussian Estimates for the Recursive Approximation of the Invariant Measure of a Diffusion

We obtain non-asymptotic Gaussian concentration bounds for the difference between the invariant measure $\nu$ of an ergodic Brownian diffusion process and the empirical distribution of an approximating scheme with decreasing time step along a suitable class of (smooth enough) test functions f such that f -- $\nu$(f) is a coboundary of the infinitesimal generator. We show that these bounds can still be improved when the (squared) Fr{\"o}benius norm of the diffusion coefficient lies in this class. We apply these bounds to design computable non-asymptotic confidence intervals for the approximating scheme. As a theoretical application, we finally derive non-asymptotic deviation bounds for the almost sure Central Limit Theorem.

Martingale problems for some degenerate Kolmogorov equations

We obtain Calder{ó}n-Zygmund estimates for some degenerate equations of Kolmogorov type with inhomogeneous coefficients. We then derive the well-posedness of the martingale problem associated to related degenerate operators, and therefore uniqueness in law for the corresponding stochastic differential equations. Some density estimates are established as well.

A Parametrix Approach for some Degenerate Stable Driven SDEs

We consider a stable driven degenerate stochastic differential equation, whose coefficients satisfy a kind of weak H{ö}rmander condition. Under mild smoothness assumptions we prove the uniqueness of the martingale problem for the associated generator under some dimension constraints. Also, when the driving noise is scalar and tempered, we establish density bounds reflecting the multi-scale behavior of the process.

The Landau Equation for Maxwellian molecules and the Brownian Motion on SO_R(N)

In this paper we prove that the spatially homogeneous Landau equation for Maxwellian molecules can be represented through the product of two elementary processes. The first one is the Brownian motion on the group of rotations. The second one is, conditionally on the first one, a Gaussian process. Using this representation, we establish sharp multi-scale upper and lower bounds for the transition density of the Landau equation, the multi-scale structure depending on the shape of the support of the initial condition.

Two-sided bounds for degenerate processes with densities supported in subsets of R^N

We obtain two-sided bounds for the density of stochastic processes satisfying a weak Hörmander condition. In particular we consider the cases when the support of the density is not the whole space and when the density has various asymptotic regimes depending on the starting/final points considered (which are as well related to the number of brackets needed to span the space in Hörmander's theorem). The proofs of our lower bounds are based on Harnack inequalities for positive solutions of PDEs whereas the upper bounds derive from the probabilistic representation of the density given by the Malliavin calculus.

Concentration Bounds for Stochastic Approximations

We obtain non asymptotic concentration bounds for two kinds of stochastic approximations. We first consider the deviations between the expectation of a given function of the Euler scheme of some diffusion process at a fixed deterministic time and its empirical mean obtained by the Monte-Carlo procedure. We then give some estimates concerning the deviation between the value at a given time-step of a stochastic approximation algorithm and its target. Under suitable assumptions both concentration bounds turn out to be Gaussian. The key tool consists in exploiting accurately the concentration properties of the increments of the schemes. For the first case, as opposed to the previous work of Lemaire and Menozzi (EJP, 2010), we do not have any systematic bias in our estimates. Also, no specific non-degeneracy conditions are assumed.

Parametrix techniques and martingale problem for some degenerate Kolmogorov's equations

We prove the uniqueness of the martingale problem associated to some degenerate operators. The key point is to exploit the strong parallel between the new technique introduced by Bass and Perkins (From Probability to Geometry, vol. in honor of J.M Bismut (2009)) to prove uniqueness of the martingale problem in the framework of non degenerated elliptic operators and the Mc Kean and Singer (Journal of Diff. Geometry, 1967) parametrix approach to the density expansion that has previously been extended to the degenerate setting that we consider (see Delarue and Menozzi, Journal of Funct. Analysis, 2010).

Weak Error for stable driven SDEs: expansion of the densities

Consider a multidimensional SDE of the form $X_t = x+\int_{0}^{t} b(X_{s-})ds+\int{0}^{t} f(X_{s-})dZ_s$ where $(Z_s)_{s\ge 0}$ is a symmetric stable process. Under suitable assumptions on the coefficients the unique strong solution of the above equation admits a density w.r.t. the Lebesgue measure and so does its Euler scheme. Using a parametrix approach, we derive an error expansion at order 1 w.r.t. the time step for the difference of these densities.

On some Non Asymptotic Bounds for the Euler Scheme

We obtain non asymptotic bounds for the Monte Carlo algorithm associated to the Euler discretization of some diffusion processes. The key tool is the Gaussian concentration satisfied by the density of the discretization scheme. This Gaussian concentration is derived from a Gaussian upper bound of the density of the scheme and a modification of the so-called "Herbst argument" used to prove Logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We eventually establish a Gaussian lower bound for the density of the scheme that emphasizes the concentration is sharp.

Explicit parametrix and local limit theorems for some degenerate diffusion processes

For a class of degenerate diffusion processes of rank 2, i.e. when only Poisson brackets of order one are needed to span the whole space, we obtain a parametrix representation of the density from which we derive some explicit Gaussian controls that characterize the additional singularity induced by the degeneracy. We then give a local limit theorem with the usual convergence rate for an associated Markov chain approximation. The key point is that the "weak" degeneracy allows to exploit the techniques first introduced by Konakov and Molchanov and then developed by Konakov and Mammen that rely on Gaussian approximations.

Strong Approximations of BSDEs in a domain

We study the strong approximation of a Backward SDE with finite stopping time horizon, namely the first exit time of a forward SDE from a cylindrical domain. We use the Euler scheme approach of Bouchard and Touzi, Zhang 04}. When the domain is piecewise smooth and under a non-characteristic boundary condition, we show that the associated strong error is at most of order $h^{\frac14-\eps}$ where $h$ denotes the time step and $\eps$ is any positive parameter. This rate corresponds to the strong exit time approximation. It is improved to $h^{\frac12-\eps}$ when the exit time can be exactly simulated or for a weaker form of the approximation error. Importantly, these results are obtained without uniform ellipticity condition.
