On variants of P\'olya's conjecture

In this paper, we study a Riesz-type weighted sum of the Liouville function, $f(x):=-\sum_{n\le x}\frac{\lambda(n)\log n}{\sqrt n}\log\frac{x}{n}$ for sufficiently large $x$. Motivated by a recent research on the sign criteria for the Riemann Hypothesis arising from weighted prime-counting functions, we investigate the sign behavior of $f(x)$ and its relation to the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. We first prove that if $f(x)$ is non-negative for all sufficiently large $x$, then the Riemann Hypothesis holds. The proof is based on the Mellin transform of $f$ and the analytic properties of $\frac{\zeta(2s)}{\zeta(s)}$. Conversely, assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, the Simple Zero Conjecture, and an absolute convergence condition involving the nontrivial zeta zeros, we derive an explicit formula for $f(x)$ in terms of these zeros. In particular, we show that $f(x)\sim \frac{(\log x)^3}{12|\zeta(\frac{1}{2})|}$ as $x\to \infty$. Consequently, we show that under these hypotheses, $f(x)$ is eventually positive.

Positive density for Sun's $2^k+m$ conjecture

In 2013, Zhi-Wei Sun proposed a Romanov-type conjecture stating that every integer $n > 1$ can be written as $n = k + m$ with $k, m \ge 1$ such that $2^k + m$ is a prime. In this paper, we unconditionally prove that the natural numbers satisfying this property have a positive density. We compute this density to be at least $0.0734$. We also discuss the limitations of our method. Under a uniform Hardy-Littlewood prime pairs conjecture, we show that the lower bound of density obtained by this method cannot exceed $1/(\log 2 + 1) \approx 0.5906$.

Almost-primes in Sun's $x^2+ny^2$ conjecture

In 2015 Zhi-Wei Sun proposed the conjecture that any integer $n > 1$ admits a partition $n = x + y$ with integers $x, y >0$ such that $x + ny$ and $x^2 + ny^2$ are simultaneously prime. To approach this conjecture we use the method of weighted sieve as developed by Richert, Halberstam, and Diamond. In this article, we first formalize the conjecture into a sieve problem. We verify that the conditions required to use Richert's weighted sieve are satisfied and establish partial results with almost-prime solutions for sufficiently large $n$.

An evolutionary game with reputation-based imitation-mutation dynamics

Reputation plays a crucial role in social interactions by affecting the fitness of individuals during an evolutionary process. Previous works have extensively studied the result of imitation dynamics without focusing on potential irrational choices in strategy updates. We now fill this gap and explore the consequence of such kind of randomness, or one may interpret it as an autonomous thinking. In particular, we study how this extended dynamics alters the evolution of cooperation when individual reputation is directly linked to collected payoff, hence providing a general fitness function. For a broadly valid conclusion, our spatial populations cover different types of interaction topologies, including lattices, small-world and scale-free graphs. By means of intensive simulations we can detect substantial increase in cooperation level that shows a reasonable stability in the presence of a notable strategy mutation.
