Spin and momentum fraction carried by partons in the nucleon

We determine the momentum fraction and angular momentum carried by quarks and gluons in the proton in lattice QCD. We use four ensembles simulated with up, down, strange and charm quarks with their masses tuned to their physical values. These ensembles have similar physical volume and different lattice spacings allowing us to take the continuum limit directly at the physical pion mass point. We extract the quark and gluon momentum fractions and total angular momentum in the continuum limit as well as the intrinsic quark spin and orbital angular momentum contributions to the proton spin. We find the total momentum fraction $\langle x_N \rangle= 0.995(60)(29)$ and the total spin $J_N = 0.507(43)(65)$, showing that both the momentum and spin sum rules are satisfied. We compare our results to those extracted from phenomenological analyses.

Nucleon unpolarized second Mellin moments using lattice QCD ensembles with physical quark masses and in the continuum limit

We compute the matrix elements of the energy-momentum tensor of the nucleon using four ensembles of twisted mass clover-improved fermions with the up, down, strange and charm quark masses tuned to approximately their physical values. The four ensembles have similar physical volume and lattice spacings $a=0.080$~fm, $0.068$~fm, $0.057$~fm, and $0.049$ fm, allowing us to take the continuum limit directly at the physical pion mass point. We compute both connected and disconnected quark contributions as well as gluon contributions. All renormalization functions, including the mixing of the quark singlet with the gluon, are determined non-perturbatively. We extract the gravitational form factors in the continuum limit at $Q^2=0$ and evaluate the contribution of quarks and gluons to the momentum and angular momentum of the proton. Using the values of the intrinsic quark spin computed using the same gauge ensembles we also determine the orbital angular momentum for each quark flavor.

The nucleon unpolarized generalized form factors and Mellin moments up to fourth order

Nucleon Mellin moments of parton distribution are computed up to the fourth order in lattice QCD. The computation is performed using one ensemble of twisted mass fermions at the physical pion mass point. We employ boosted frames to access the higher-order Mellin moments of generalized parton distributions. We also extract the forward-limit Mellin moments $\langle x^{n-1}\rangle$ for $n=2,3,4$. These Mellin moments are used to construct unpolarized parton distribution functions and compare to phenomenological extractions.

Performance of Low Mode Averaging on Twisted-Mass Fermion Ensembles at the physical pion mass point

We study the performance of low-mode averaging (LMA) on twisted-mass fermion ensembles at near-physical quark masses, assessing both its theoretical framework and practical cost-effectiveness in modern lattice QCD. In particular, we present a numerical study of light-quark meson and baryon observables. For mesons, we analyse two-point functions, including the vector-vector correlator relevant for the hadronic vacuum polarisation contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, comparing two implementations of LMA: an exact approach based on explicit low modes and an approximate, high-statistics variant using multigrid techniques. For baryons, we restrict to the exact approach and study both two- and three-point functions, quantifying the resulting noise and cost reductions at large Euclidean times. In addition, we compute the eigenvalue density of the massless Wilson operator and determine the renormalised chiral condensate via the Banks-Casher relation, obtaining $\sqrt[3]{\Sigma_{\mathrm{R}}}=269.5(4.5)~\mathrm{MeV}$ for $N_f{=}2{+}1{+}1$ isospin-symmetric QCD at a scale $2~\mathrm{GeV}$ in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme, with an uncertainty dominated by the chiral extrapolation. Additionally, from the pion-mass dependence of $\Sigma_{\mathrm{R}}$, we extract the scale-independent low-energy constant $\bar{h}_1=5.2(1.1)$.

Higher Mellin Moments of the Unpolarized PDF of the Pion and the Kaon from Lattice QCD

We present results on the Mellin moments of the unpolarized parton distribution function (PDF) of the pion and kaon up to the fourth order. The computation is done using one $N_f=2+1+1$ gauge ensemble of twisted mass fermions with quark masses tuned to approximately their physical values. We reconstruct the valence pion and kaon PDFs using the connected contributions to the three Mellin moments. We compare our results on the Mellin moments and the reconstructed PDFs with other lattice QCD and phenomenological determinations.

Nucleon strange electromagnetic form factors using $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted-mass fermions at the physical point

We present the strange electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon using lattice QCD with $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass clover-improved fermions and quark masses tuned to their physical values. Using four ensembles with lattice spacings of $a=0.080$ fm, $0.068$ fm, $0.057$ fm and $0.049$ fm, and similar physical volume, we obtain the continuum limit directly at the physical pion mass. The disconnected strange contributions are computed using high statistics two-point functions combined with stochastic noise mitigation techniques, such as spin-color dilution and hierarchical probing in the estimation of the quark loop. From the momentum dependence of the form factors, we provide the strange electric and magnetic radii, as well as the strange magnetic moment in the continuum limit.

Scalar and Tensor Form Factors for $\Lambda \rightarrow p\ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ from Lattice QCD

We present a determination of the scalar and tensor $\Lambda\to p$ transition form factors using lattice QCD. These form factors are relevant for semileptonic hyperon decays in the presence of extensions of the Standard Model that include scalar and tensor interactions. The calculation is carried out using a gauge ensemble of twisted mass fermions at the physical pion mass, following the same strategy as our recent study on vector and axial form factors for the same transition. We provide the complete set of form factors as functions of $q^2$ employing a model-independent parametrization. We examine their impact on searches for non-standard charged-current interactions via the muon-to-electron decay-rate ratio $R^{\mu e}=\Gamma(\Lambda\to p\mu\bar\nu_\mu)/\Gamma(\Lambda\to pe\bar\nu_e)$, where scalar and tensor contributions enter linearly and are helicity-enhanced relative to the electron channel. We compare this first-principles prediction for the decay-rate ratio with recent experimental measurements, thereby enabling improved constraints on non-standard charged-current interactions.

First-principle evaluation of inclusive hadronic $\tau$ decays in QCD+QED

We present a strategy to extend lattice calculations of inclusive hadronic $\tau$ decays from isosymmetric QCD to QCD+QED. The inclusive decay rate can be related to suitable Euclidean correlation functions, allowing for a first-principles evaluation of electromagnetic and isospin-breaking effects. Within the RM123 framework, radiative corrections are decomposed into leptonic, factorizable and non-factorizable contributions. We report preliminary results for the leptonic and factorizable terms in the electro-quenched approximation and discuss the remaining steps towards a complete calculation. This programme aims at a first-principles determination of inclusive $\tau$ decay rates with direct implications for the extraction of the CKM matrix element $|V_{us}|$.

Nucleon strange electromagnetic form factors from $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD

We present the nucleon strange electromagnetic form factors using four lattice QCD ensembles with $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass clover-improved fermions and quark masses tuned to approximately their physical values. The four ensembles have similar physical volume and lattice spacings of $a=0.080$ fm, $0.068$ fm, $0.057$ fm and $0.049$ fm allowing us to take the continuum limit directly at the physical pion mass point. We compute nucleon three-point correlation functions with high statistics, where the disconnected fermion loops are evaluated stochastically with spin-color dilution and hierarchical probing. We find non-zero values for both electric and magnetic form factors. We extract the strange electric and magnetic radii, as well as the strange magnetic moment in the continuum limit by studying the momentum dependence of the form factors. We also compute the charm electromagnetic form factors within the same setup, which we find to be consistent with zero within the statistical precision of our data.

Strangeness of nucleons from $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD

We present the strange electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon using lattice QCD simulations with degenerate light, a strange, and a charm quark in the sea with masses tuned to their physical values. For the first time, the strange electromagnetic form factors are computed at the continuum limit using only ensembles simulated with physical quark masses, eliminating the need for chiral extrapolations and their associated systematic uncertainty. We obtain the momentum transfer dependence of the form factors using the $z$-expansion and provide the strange electric and magnetic radii, as well as the strange magnetic moment. When combining our statistical errors and systematic uncertainties stemming from the momentum transfer dependence fit, our errors are an order of magnitude smaller than those associated with experimental determinations of the strange electromagnetic form factor.

The smeared $R$-ratio in isoQCD from first-principles lattice simulations

The $R$-ratio is a phenomenological observable of great relevance, both in itself and in applications such as the dispersive approach to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. It can be investigated from first-principles with controlled statistical and systematic errors in lattice QCD by introducing an arbitrary smearing kernel and employing spectral reconstruction techniques, such as the well-known Hansen-Lupo-Tantalo method. Improving upon a first study published in 2023, we show preliminary results using the correlation functions produced by ETMC in $N_f = 2+1+1$ lattice simulations at four lattice spacings, different volumes and with higher statistics w.r.t. our previous study. The new correlators, thanks to the implementation of the Low Mode Average technique, allow the determination of the $R$-ratio smeared with Gaussian kernels of widths down to $\sigma \sim 200$ with phenomenologically relevant precision.

An update on the HVP contribution to $g_{\mu}{-}2$ in isoQCD from ETMC

We present an update on the determination of the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarisation contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment in isospin-symmetric QCD by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration. The calculation is based on five $N_f = 2+1+1$ gauge ensembles generated with Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks at maximal-twist and near-physical pion masses, spanning four lattice spacings and two volumes. For the dominant quark-connected contributions, we employ two distinct valence-quark regularisations and present results for both the isovector and isoscalar components.

Recent results on the $\Lambda \rightarrow p\ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ semileptonic decay

We present a lattice-QCD determination of the $\Lambda \to p$ vector and axial-vector form factors, providing theoretical input for studies of the semileptonic decay $\Lambda \to p\ell\bar{\nu}_\ell$. The calculation is carried out on a single gauge ensemble with physical light, strange, and charm quark masses and delivers a precise determination of the complete set of transition form factors, including second-class contributions. Using these form factors, we compute decay rates for both the electronic and muonic channels, as well as their ratio, which offers a sensitive test of lepton-flavor universality and possible non-standard scalar or tensor interactions. This decay mode provides a theoretically well-controlled avenue for extracting the CKM matrix element $|V_{us}|$ from the baryon sector. Our estimate of $|V_{us}|$ is obtained by combining our recent lattice-QCD results with recent measurements of the relevant branching fraction reported by BESIII and LHCb.

Collins-Soper Kernel and Reduced Soft Function in Lattice QCD

We evaluate the Collins-Soper kernel and the reduced soft function in lattice QCD, incorporating $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s)$ matching corrections. The calculation relies on the evaluation of the quasi-transverse momentum-dependent wave function with asymmetric staple-shaped quark bilinear operators and four-point meson form factors. These quantities are computed non-perturbatively using two $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted-mass fermion ensembles with the same lattice spacing of $a=0.093$ fm: the first ensemble has a lattice size of $24^3 \times 48$ and a pion mass of 346 MeV; the second one has a lattice size of $32^3 \times 64$ and a pion mass of 261 MeV. The Collins-Soper kernel and the soft function are needed for the determination of the transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions.

Proton and neutron electromagnetic form factors from lattice QCD in the continuum limit

We compute the electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron using lattice QCD. We employ $N_\mathrm{f}$=2+1+1 twisted mass clover-improved fermions with quark masses tuned to their physical values. Three ensembles with lattice spacings of $a$=0.080 fm, 0.068 fm, and 0.057 fm, and approximately the same physical volume allow us to obtain the continuum limit directly at the physical pion mass. For each ensemble, we use several values of the sink-source time separation, ranging from 0.5 fm to 1.5 fm, to allow for a thorough analysis of excited state effects via multi-state fits. The disconnected contributions are also analyzed using high statistics combined with techniques to mitigate stochastic noise in the estimation of the fermion loop. These techniques include low-mode deflation, dilution in the color and spin components, and hierarchical probing. We study the momentum transfer dependence of the form factors using the $z$-expansion and dipole Ans\"atze, thereby enabling the extraction of the electric and magnetic radii and the magnetic moments, as well as the Zemach and Friar radii in the continuum limit. Results for the proton and neutron electric and magnetic mean square radii are $\sqrt{\langle r_E^2\rangle^p} = 0.860(38)(23)$ fm, $\langle r_E^2\rangle^n = -0.147(48)$ fm$^2$, $\sqrt{\langle r_M^2\rangle^p} = 0.870(53)(15)$ fm and $\sqrt{\langle r_M^2\rangle^n} = 0.913(67)(19)$ fm, and for the proton and neutron magnetic moments $\mu^p=2.849(92)(52)$ and $\mu^n=-1.819(76)(29)$, respectively. In all cases, the first error is statistical and the second systematic, where the latter includes an estimate of the error from the fits to the momentum dependence of the form factors and from the continuum extrapolation.

Study of the $\Lambda \to p \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ semileptonic decay in lattice QCD

We present the first lattice QCD determination of the $\Lambda \to N$ vector and axial-vector form factors, which are essential inputs for studying the semileptonic decay $\Lambda \to p \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$. This channel provides a clean, theoretically controlled avenue for extracting the CKM matrix element $|V_{us}|$ from the baryon sector. Our analysis uses a gauge ensemble with physical light, strange, and charm quark masses and yields the most precise determination to date of the full set of transition form factors -- including second-class contributions -- as well as the associated couplings, radii, and the ratio of muon-to-electron decay rates, an observable sensitive to possible non-standard scalar and tensor interactions. We compare our non-perturbative results with next-to-next-to-leading order expansions in the small parameter $\delta = (m_\Lambda - m_N)/m_\Lambda \approx 0.16$. We find that the common phenomenological approximation of neglecting the $q^2$-dependence of the form factors leads to a $\sim 4\%$ deviation in the decay rate. This underscores the critical importance of precise, fully non-perturbative form factor inputs for achieving the sub-percent precision targets of upcoming experimental programs.

$\eta$, $\eta^\prime$ mesons from lattice QCD in fully physical conditions

We determine masses and mixing parameters of the $\eta$ and $M_{\eta^\prime}$ meson in lattice QCD. The calculations are carried out on a set of 13 ETMC gauge ensembles with $N_f=2+1+1$ (maximally) twisted-mass Clover-improved quarks. These ensemble cover four values of the lattice spacing $a=0.057\mathrm{fm},...,0.092\mathrm{fm}$ and pion masses from $140\mathrm{MeV}$ to $360\mathrm{MeV}$, including three ensembles at physical quark masses and six ensembles with $M_\pi<200\mathrm{MeV}$. The strange-quark contribution is treated in a mixed-action approach using Osterwalder-Seiler fermions to avoid complications due to flavor mixing in the heavy quark sector and to enable the use of the one-end trick in the computation of strange quark-disconnected diagrams. With the strange-quark mass tuned to its physical value and several ensembles having close-to-physical light-quark mass, uncertainties related to the chiral extrapolations are reduced significantly compared to earlier studies. Physical results are computed with fully controlled systematics from a combined chiral, continuum and infinite-volume extrapolation, and a full error budget is obtained from model averages over of various fit ans\"atze and data cuts. Our results for the masses are given by $M_\eta=551(16)\mathrm{MeV}$ and $M_{\eta^\prime}=972(20)\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively, where statistical and systematic errors have been added in quadrature. For the mixing angle and decay-constant parameters the Feldmann-Kroll-Stech scheme is employed to compute them from pseudoscalar matrix elements in the quark-flavor basis. For the mixing angle we obtain $\phi^\mathrm{phys}=39.3(2.0)^\circ$ and our results for the decay-constant parameters are given by $f_l^\mathrm{phys}=138.6(4.4)\mathrm{MeV}$ and $f_s^\mathrm{phys}=170.7(3.3)\mathrm{MeV}$.

Quark and gluon momentum fractions in the pion and in the kaon

We present results on the momentum fraction carried by quarks and gluons in the pion and the kaon. We employ three gauge ensembles generated with $N_f=2+1+1$ Wilson twisted-mass clover-improved fermions with physical quark masses. We perform, for the first time, a continuum extrapolation directly at the physical pion. We find that the total momentum fraction carried by quarks is $\langle x \rangle_{q, R}^{\pi}= 0.575(79)$ and $\langle x \rangle_{q,R}^{K} = 0.683(50)$ and by gluons $\langle x \rangle_{g, R}^{\pi}=0.402(53)$ and $\langle x \rangle_{g, R}^{K}=0.422(67)$ in the pion and in the kaon, respectively, in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme and at the renormalization scale of 2 GeV. Having computed both the quark and gluon contributions in the continuum limit, we verify the momentum sum, finding 0.984(89) for the pion and 1.13(11) for the kaon.
