Cahn-Hilliard equation associated with hypergraph

A hypergraph Laplacian was introduced to investigate the structure of networks written as hypergraphs. It was shown that the behavior of solutions to an evolution equation associated with the hypergraph Laplacian quite resembles that of solutions to the classical heat equation. Hence by replacing the Laplacian in PDEs with the hypergraph Laplacian, we might be able to introduce various diffusion models on hypergraphs (discrete domains), whose behavior of solution is similar to PDEs. In this paper, we consider a system of equations obtained by replacing the Laplacian in the original Cahn--Hilliard equation with the hypergraph Laplacian. Due to the nonlinearity and multivaluedness of the hypergraph Laplacian, it is difficult to apply methods for the original Cahn--Hilliard equation to our problem. To cope with these difficulty, we shall introduce a new proof by using properties of the hypergraph Laplacian in this paper.

Doubly nonlinear parabolic equation with perturbation

In this paper, we consider the initial boundary value problem of a doubly nonlinear parabolic equation with nonlinear perturbation. We impose the homogeneous Dirichlet condition on this problem. We aim to reduce the growth condition of the nonlinear term and the largeness of exponent as possible so that we can apply our result to both singular and degenerate type parabolic equations. We use in our proof the $L ^{\infty }$-estimate of the time-discrete equation derived in the previous work and apply the so-called $L ^{\infty }$-energy method to the time-discrete problem. We also discuss the uniqueness of solution by using the previous result.

Optimal control problem of evolution equation governed by hypergraph Laplacian

In this paper, we consider an optimal control problem of an ordinary differential inclusion governed by the hypergraph Laplacian, which is defined as a subdifferential of a convex function and then is a set-valued operator. We can assure the existence of optimal control for a suitable cost function by using methods of a priori estimates established in the previous studies. However, due to the multivaluedness of the hypergraph Laplacian, it seems to be difficult to derive the necessary optimality condition for this problem. To cope with this difficulty, we introduce an approximation operator based on the approximation method of the hypergraph, so-called ``clique expansion.'' We first consider the optimality condition of the approximation problem with the clique expansion of the hypergraph Laplacian and next discuss the convergence to the original problem. In appendix, we state some basic properties of the clique expansion of the hypergraph Laplacian for future works.

Heat equation on the hypergraph containing vertices with given data

This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem of a multivalued ordinary differential equation governed by the hypergraph Laplacian, which describes the diffusion of ``heat'' or ``particles'' on the vertices of hypergraph. We consider the case where the heat on several vertices are manipulated internally by the observer, namely, are fixed by some given functions. This situation can be reduced to a nonlinear evolution equation associated with a time-dependent subdifferential operator, whose solvability has been investigated in numerous previous researches. In this paper, however, we give an alternative proof of the solvability in order to avoid some complicated calculations arising from the chain rule for the time-dependent subdifferential. As for results which cannot be assured by the known abstract theory, we also discuss the continuous dependence of solution on the given data and the time-global behavior of solution.

Nonlinear Evolution Equation Associated with Hypergraph Laplacian

Let $V$ be a finite set, $E \subset 2^{V} $ be a set of hyperedges, and $w : E \to (0, \infty)$ be an edge weight. On the (wighted) hypergraph $G = (V ,E ,w )$, we can define a multivalued nonlinear operator $L_{G,p}$ ($p \in [1 ,\infty )$) as the subdifferential of a convex function on $\mathbb{R} ^V $, which is called "hypergraph $p$-Laplacian." In this article, we first introduce an inequality for this operator $L_{G,p}$ which resembles the Poincaré-Wirtinger inequality in PDEs. Next we consider an ordinary differential equation on $\mathbb{R} ^V $ governed by $L_{G,p}$, which is referred as "heat" equation on the hypergraph and used to study the geometric structure of graph in recent researches. With the aid of the Poincaré-Wirtinger type inequality, we can discuss the existence and the large time behavior of solutions to the ODE by procedures similar to those for the standard heat equation in PDEs with the zero Neumann boundary condition.

Periodic Problem for Doubly Nonlinear Evolution Equation

We are concerned with the time-periodic problem of some doubly nonlinear equations governed by differentials of two convex functionals over uniformly convex Banach spaces. Akagi--Stefanelli (2011) considered Cauchy problem of the same equation via the so-called WED functional approach. Main purpose of this paper is to show the existence of the time-periodic solution under the same growth conditions on functionals and differentials as those imposed in Akagi--Stefanelli (2011). Because of the difference of nature between Cauchy problem and the periodic problem, we can not apply the WED functional approach directly, so we here adopt standard compactness methods with suitable approximation procedures.

Solvability of Doubly Nonlinear Parabolic Equation with $p$-Laplacian

In this paper, we consider a doubly nonlinear parabolic equation $ \partial _t β(u) - \nabla \cdot α(x , \nabla u) \ni f$ with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition in a bounded domain, where $β: \mathbb{R} \to 2 ^{ \mathbb{R} }$ is a maximal monotone graph satisfying $0 \in β(0)$ and $ \nabla \cdot α(x , \nabla u )$ stands for a generalized $p$-Laplacian. Existence of solution to the initial boundary value problem of this equation has been investigated in an enormous number of papers for the case where single-valuedness, coerciveness, or some growth condition is imposed on $β$. However, there are a few results for the case where such assumptions are removed and it is difficult to construct an abstract theory which covers the case for $1 < p < 2$. Main purpose of this paper is to show the solvability of the initial boundary value problem for any $ p \in (1, \infty ) $ without any conditions for $β$ except $0 \in β(0)$. We also discuss the uniqueness of solution by using properties of entropy solution.
