Direct Optimization of Stellarator Omnigenity from the Second Adiabatic Invariant

Stellarators offer a steady-state, disruption-free path to fusion energy but suffer from enhanced particle losses due to their three-dimensional geometry. Existing optimization methods rely on geometric proxies rather than the actual trapped-particle orbit condition. We present a differentiable framework that directly optimizes the fundamental orbit action governing particle confinement. The approach yields compact stellarator designs with excellent fast-ion confinement, finite-pressure stability, and coil compatibility, demonstrating that first-principles orbit optimization can be integrated with engineering constraints in a single computational workflow for fusion reactor design.

Seeing full vectorial structures of light fields with a single-shot holographic multiplexed detector

The vectorial structure of light, amplitude, phase, and polarization, encodes essential information for applications ranging from super-resolution microscopy to high-capacity communications and quantum information processing. However, existing characterization methods either rely on multiple sequential measurements or require bulky polarization splitting optics in the signal path. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate a single shot holographic multiplexed detector that retrieves the full vectorial information from a single intensity recording. Two orthogonally polarized reference beams with distinct off axis carriers interfere with the unknown vectorial light field, encoding both polarization channels into one off axis hologram. Digital holographic reconstruction combined with a self calibrated global phase retrieval recovers the complex wavefronts in the two channels without any additional measurements. We validate our approach by characterizing the polarization structures and concurrence of various vectorial structured light beams on a higher order Poincare sphere (l=2). This compact, efficient detector may open new routes for real time vectorial metrology in light matter interaction, chiral sensing, vectorial adaptive optics, and dynamic structured light applications.

BlueLM-2.5-3B Technical Report

We present BlueLM-2.5-3B, a compact and unified dense Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) designed for efficient edge-device deployment, offering strong general-purpose and reasoning capabilities. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first 3B-scale MLLM to support both thinking and non-thinking modes, while also enabling explicit control over thinking token budget. BlueLM-2.5-3B is developed through diversified data curation, key data resampling, hybrid heterogeneous reinforcement learning, and a high-performance training infrastructure. Our model achieves superior multimodal capacity while preserving competitive pure-text performance with only 2.9 billion parameters. We conduct comprehensive evaluations across a broad range of multimodal and text-only benchmarks. In thinking mode, BlueLM-2.5-3B achieves comparable performance to Qwen3-4B on text-only benchmarks, and trails the larger Kimi-VL-A3B-16B by only about 5% on average across multimodal evaluations. In non-thinking mode, it outperforms Qwen2.5-VL-3B on the majority of multimodal benchmarks. Additionally, BlueLM-2.5-3B exhibits exceptional data efficiency. All of the aforementioned performance is achieved with substantially less total training data than Qwen2.5-VL-3B and Qwen3-4B. We hope our work contributes to the advancement of high-performance, on-device MLLMs and provides meaningful insights to the research community.

Dynamical generation of dark solitons in spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates

We numerically investigate the ground state, the Raman-driving dynamics and the nonlinear excitations of a realized spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate in a one-dimensional harmonic trap. Depending on the Raman coupling and the interatomic interactions, three ground-state phases are identified: stripe, plane wave and zero-momentum phases. A narrow parameter regime with coexistence of stripe and zero-momentum or plane wave phases in real space is found. Several sweep progresses across different phases by driving the Raman coupling linearly in time is simulated and the non-equilibrium dynamics of the system in these sweeps are studied. We find kinds of nonlinear excitations, with the particular dark solitons excited in the sweep from the stripe phase to the plane wave or zero-momentum phase within the trap. Moreover, the number and the stability of the dark solitons can be controlled in the driving, which provide a direct and easy way to generate dark solitons and study their dynamics and interaction properties.
