Conjectural Positivity for Pontryagin Product in Equivariant K-theory of Loop Groups

Let $G$ be a connected simply-connected simple algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$ and let $T$ be a maximal torus, $B\supset T$ a Borel subgroup and $K$ a maximal compact subgroup. Then, the product in the (algebraic) based loop group $\Omega(K)$ gives rise to a comultiplication in the topological $T$-equivariant $K$-ring $K_T^{top}(\Omega(K))$. Recall that $\Omega(K)$ is identified with the affine Grassmannian $\mathcal{X}$ (of $G$) and hence we get a comultiplication in $ K_T^{top}(\mathcal{X})$. Dualizing, one gets the Pontryagin product in the $T$-equivariant $K$-homology $K^T_0(\mathcal{X})$, which in-turn gets identified with the convolution product (due to S. Kato). Now, $ K_T^{top}(\mathcal{X})$ has a basis $\{\xi^w\}$ over the representation ring $R(T)$ given by the ideal sheaves corresponding to the finite codimension Schubert varieties $X^w$ in $\mathcal{X}$. We make a positivity conjecture on the comultiplication structure constants in the above basis. Using some results of Kato, this conjecture gives rise to an equivalent conjecture on the positivity of the multiplicative structure constants in $T$-equivariant quantum $K$-theory $QK_T(G/B)$ in the Schubert basis.

Counter Example to a Strong Matroid Minor Conjecture

The main result of this note asserts that a strong form of the Matroid Minor Conjecture due to J. Draisma is not true, i.e., there exist properly ascending chains of $S_\infty$-stable ideals in the affine coordinate ring of the affine infinite Grassmannian, where $S_\infty$ is the infinite symmetric group. In fact, we explicitly construct such an ascending chain. His conjectures on topological noetherian property for the affine infinite Grassmannian remain open though.

Character of Irreducible Representations Restricted to Finite Order Elements -- An Asymptotic Formula

Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over the complex numbers and let $T\subset G$ be a maximal torus. For any $t\in T$ of finite order and any irreducible representation $V(\lambda)$ of $G$ of highest weight $\lambda$, we determine the character $ch(t, V(\lambda))$ by using the Lefschetz Trace Formula due to Atiyah-Singer and explicitly determining the connected components and their normal bundles of the fixed point subvariety $(G/P)^t\subset G/P$ (for any parabolic subgroup $P$). This together with Wirtinger's theorem gives an asymptotic formula for $ch(t, V(n\lambda))$ when $n$ goes to infinity.

Nonexistence of regular maps between homogeneous projective varieties

We study non-existence of non-constant regular maps from a partial flag variety $X=G/P$ to another partial flag variety $X'=G'/P'$ and prove that there does not exist any non-constant regular map from any partial non-complete flag variety $X$ to any complete flag variety $X'=G'/B'$. We also formulate a general conjecture on the non-existence of non-constant regular maps from $X\to X'$.

Positivity in $T$-Equivariant $K$-theory of partial flag varieties associated to Kac-Moody groups

We prove sign-alternation of the product structure constants in the basis dual to the basis consisting of the structure sheaves of Schubert varieties in the torus-equivariant Grothendieck group of coherent sheaves on the partial flag varieties $G/P$ associated to an arbitrary symmetrizable Kac-Moody group $G$, where $P$ is any parabolic subgroup of finite type. This extends the previous work of Kumar from $G/B$ to $G/P$. When $G$ is of finite type, i.e., it is a semisimple group, then it was proved by Anderson-Griffeth-Miller.

Lie algebra cohomology of the positive part of twisted affine Lie algebras

The explicit Verlinde formula for the dimension of conformal blocks, attached to a marked projective curve $\Sigma$, a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ over $\mathbb{C}$ and integrable highest weight modules of a fixed central charge of the corresponding affine Lie algebra $\hat{L}(\mathfrak{g})$ attached to the marked points, requires (among several other important ingredients) a Lie algebra cohomology vanishing result due to C. Teleman for the positive part $\hat{L}^+(\mathfrak{g})$ with coefficients in the tensor product of an integrable highest weight module with copies of finite dimensional evaluation modules. The aim of this paper is to extend this result of Teleman to a twisted setting where $\mathfrak{g}$ is endowed with a special automorphism $\sigma$ and the curve $\Sigma$ is endowed with the action of $\sigma$. In this general setting, the affine Lie algebra gets replaced by twisted affine Lie algebras. The crucial ingredient (as in Teleman) is to prove a certain Nakano Identity.

Components of $V(\rho) \otimes V(\rho)$ and dominant weight polyhedra for affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras

Kostant asked the following question: Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple Lie algebra over the complex numbers. Let $\lambda$ be a dominant integral weight. Then, $V(\lambda)$ is a component of $V(\rho)\otimes V(\rho)$ if and only if $\lambda \leq 2 \rho$ under the usual Bruhat-Chevalley order on the set of weights. In an earlier work with R. Chirivi and A. Maffei the second author gave an affirmative answer to this question up to a saturation factor. The aim of the current work is to extend this result to untwisted affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ associated to any simple Lie algebra $\mathring{\mathfrak{g}}$ (up to a saturation factor). In fact, we prove the result for affine $sl_n$ without any saturation factor. Our proof requires some additional techniques including the Goddard-Kent-Olive construction and study of the characteristic cone of non-compact polyhedra.

Automated Validation of Insurance Applications against Calculation Specifications

Insurance companies rely on their Legacy Insurance System (LIS) to govern day-to-day operations. These LIS operate as per the companys business rules that are formally specified in Calculation Specification (CS) sheets. To meet ever-changing business demands, insurance companies are increasingly transforming their outdated LIS to modern Policy Administration Systems (PAS). Quality Assurance (QA) of such PAS involves manual validation of calculations implementation against the corresponding CS sheets from the LIS. This manual QA approach is effort-intensive and error-prone, which may fail to detect inconsistencies in PAS implementations and ultimately result in monetary loss. To address this challenge, we propose a novel low-code no-code technique to automatically validate PAS implementation against CS sheets. Our technique has been evaluated on a digital transformation project of a large insurance company on 12 real-world calculations through 254 policies. The evaluation resulted in effort savings of approximately 92 percent against the conventional manual validation approach.

Conjectural positivity of Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson classes for Richardson cells

Following some work of Aluffi-Mihalcea-Sch\"{u}rmann-Su for the CSM classes of Schubert cells and some elaborate computer calculations by R. Rimanyi and L. Mihalcea, I conjecture that the CSM classes of the Richardson cells expressed in the Schubert basis have nonnegative coefficients. This conjecture was principally motivated by a new product $\square$ coming from the Segre classes in the cohomology of flag varieties (such that the associated Gr of this product is the standard cup product) and the conjecture that the structure constants of this new product $\square$ in the standard Schubert basis have alternating sign behavior. I prove that this conjecture on the sign of the structure constants of $\square$ would follow from my above positivity conjecture about the CSM classes of Richardson cells.

Twisted conformal blocks and their dimension

Let $\Gamma$ be a finite group acting on a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and acting on a $s$-pointed projective curve $(\Sigma, \vec{p}=\{p_1, \dots, p_s\})$ faithfully (for $s\geq 1$). Also, let an integrable highest weight module $\mathscr{H}_c(\lambda_i)$ of an appropriate twisted affine Lie algebra determined by the ramification at $p_i$ with a fixed central charge $c$ is attached to each $p_i$. We prove that the space of twisted conformal blocks attached to this data is isomorphic to the space associated to a quotient group of $\Gamma$ acting on $\mathfrak{g}$ by diagram automorphisms and acting on a quotient of $\Sigma$. Under some mild conditions on ramification types, we prove that calculating the dimension of twisted conformal blocks can be reduced to the situation when $\Gamma$ acts on $\mathfrak{g}$ by diagram automorphisms and covers of $\mathbb{P}^1$ with 3 marked points. Assuming a twisted analogue of Teleman's vanishing theorem of Lie algebra homology, we derive an analogue of the Kac-Walton formula and the Verlinde formula for general $\Gamma$-curves (with mild restrictions on ramification types). In particular, if the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is not of type $D_4$, there are no restrictions on ramification types.

Representation ring of Levi subgroups versus cohomology ring of flag varieties III

For any reductive group $G$ and a parabolic subgroup $P$ with its Levi subgroup $L$, the first author [Ku2] introduced a ring homomorphism $ \xi^P_\lambda: Rep^\mathbb{C}_{\lambda-poly}(L) \to H^*(G/P, \mathbb{C})$, where $ Rep^\mathbb{C}_{\lambda-poly}(L)$ is a certain subring of the complexified representation ring of $L$ (depending upon the choice of an irreducible representation $V(\lambda)$ of $G$ with highest weight $\lambda$). In this paper we study this homomorphism for $G=SO(2n)$ and its maximal parabolic subgroups $P_{n-k}$ for any $2\leq k\leq n-1$ (with the choice of $V(\lambda) $ to be the defining representation $V(\omega_1) $ in $\mathbb{C}^{2n}$). Thus, we obtain a $\mathbb{C}$-algebra homomorphism $ \xi_{n,k}^D: Rep^\mathbb{C}_{\omega_1-poly}(SO(2k)) \to H^*(OG(n-k, 2n), \mathbb{C})$. We determine this homomorphism explicitly in the paper. We further analyze the behavior of $ \xi_{n,k}^D$ when $n$ tends to $\infty$ keeping $k$ fixed and show that $ \xi_{n,k}$ becomes injective in the limit. We also determine explicitly (via some computer calculation) the homomorphism $ \xi^P_\lambda$ for all the exceptional groups $G$ (with a specific `minimal' choice of $\lambda$) and all their maximal parabolic subgroups except $E_8$.

Implementing a Real-Time, YOLOv5 based Social Distancing Measuring System for Covid-19

The purpose of this work is, to provide a YOLOv5 deep learning-based social distance monitoring framework using an overhead view perspective. In addition, we have developed a custom defined model YOLOv5 modified CSP (Cross Stage Partial Network) and assessed the performance on COCO and Visdrone dataset with and without transfer learning. Our findings show that the developed model successfully identifies the individual who violates the social distances. The accuracy of 81.7% for the modified bottleneck CSP without transfer learning is observed on COCO dataset after training the model for 300 epochs whereas for the same epochs, the default YOLOv5 model is attaining 80.1% accuracy with transfer learning. This shows an improvement in accuracy by our modified bottleneck CSP model. For the Visdrone dataset, we are able to achieve an accuracy of upto 56.5% for certain classes and especially an accuracy of 40% for people and pedestrians with transfer learning using the default YOLOv5s model for 30 epochs. While the modified bottleneck CSP is able to perform slightly better than the default model with an accuracy score of upto 58.1% for certain classes and an accuracy of ~40.4% for people and pedestrians.

Root components for tensor product of affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra modules

Let g be an affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra and let $\lambda, \mu$ be two dominant integral weights for g. We prove that under some mild restriction, for any positive root $\beta$, $V(\lambda)\otimes V(\mu)$ contains $V(\lambda+\mu-\beta)$ as a component, where $V(\lambda)$ denotes the integrable highest weight (irreducible) g-module with highest weight $\lambda$. This extends the corresponding result by Kumar from the case of finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebras to the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. One crucial ingredient in the proof is the action of Virasoro algebra via the Goddard-Kent-Olive construction on the tensor product $V(\lambda)\otimes V(\mu)$. Then, we prove the corresponding geometric results including the higher cohomology vanishing on the G-Schubert varieties in the product partial flag variety G/P X G/P with coefficients in certain sheaves coming from the ideal sheaves of G-sub Schubert varieties. This allows us to prove the surjectivity of the Gaussian map.

Elliptic classes of Schubert varieties

We introduce new notions in elliptic Schubert calculus: the (twisted) Borisov-Libgober classes of Schubert varieties in general homogeneous spaces G/P. While these classes do not depend on any choice, they depend on a set of new variables. For the definition of our classes we calculate multiplicities of some divisors in Schubert varieties, which were only known for full flag varieties before. Our approach leads to a simple recursions for the elliptic classes. Comparing this recursion with R-matrix recursions of the so-called elliptic weight functions of Rimanyi-Tarasov-Varchenko we prove that weight functions represent elliptic classes of Schubert varieties.

Representation ring of Levi subgroups versus cohomology ring of flag varieties II

For any reductive group G and a parabolic subgroup P with its Levi subgroup L, the first author in [Ku2] introduced a ring homomorphism $ \xi^P_\lambda: Rep^\mathbb{C}_{\lambda-poly}(L) \to H^*(G/P, \mathbb{C})$, where $ Rep^\mathbb{C}_{\lambda-poly}(L)$ is a certain subring of the complexified representation ring of L (depending upon the choice of an irreducible representation $V(\lambda)$ of G with highest weight $\lambda$). In this paper we study this homomorphism for G=Sp(2n) and its maximal parabolic subgroups $P_{n-k}$ for any $1\leq k\leq n$ (with the choice of $V(\lambda) $ to be the defining representation $V(\omega_1) $ in $\mathbb{C}^{2n}$). Thus, we obtain a $\mathbb{C}$-algebra homomorphism $ \xi_{n,k}: Rep^\mathbb{C}_{\omega_1-poly}(Sp(2k)) \to H^*(IG(n-k, 2n), \mathbb{C})$. Our main result asserts that $ \xi_{n,k}$ is injective when n tends to $\infty$ keeping k fixed. Similar results are obtained for the odd orthogonal groups.

On the faces of the tensor cone of symmetrizable Kac-Moody lie algebras

In this paper, we are interested in the decomposition of the tensor product of two representations ofa symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebra ${\mathfrak g}$, or more precisely in the tensor cone of~${\mathfrak g}$.As usual, we parametrize the integrable, highest weight (irreducible) representations of~${\mathfrak g}$ by their highest weights. Then, the triples of such representations such that the last one is contained in the tensor product of the first two is a semigroup. This semigroup generates a rational convex cone $ \Gamma({\mathfrak g})$ called tensor cone.If ${\mathfrak g}$~is finite-dimensional, $\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$~is a polyhedral convex cone. In 2006, Belkale and the first author described this cone by an explicit finite list of inequalities. In 2010, this list of inequalities was proved to be irredundant by the second author:each such inequality corresponds to a codimension one face.In general, $\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$~is neither polyhedral, nor closed.Brown and the first author obtained a list of inequalities that describe $\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$ conjecturally. Here, we prove that each of these inequalities corresponds to a codimension one face of~$\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$.
