Polarization fractions and helicity-dependent CP asymmetries in $B_{(s)} \to \rho\rho, \rho K^\ast$ and $K^\ast K^\ast$ decays

In this paper, we present a phenomenological analysis of $B_{(s)} \to \rho\rho, \rho K^\ast$ and $K^\ast K^\ast$ decays using state-of-the-art perturbative QCD (pQCD) calculations. Our study is primarily motivated by recent polarization measurements from the LHCb and Belle II collaborations, which have significantly improved the precision of polarization fractions and enabled the first full determination of polarization-dependent CP asymmetries. This work extends the comprehensive pQCD study of charmless two-body $B$ decays reported in our previous paper [Chin. Phys. C 46 (2022) 123103], with a particular focus on polarization observables, especially the CP asymmetries in each helicity state, which reflect distinct orbital angular momentum configurations between the two vector mesons. Our predictions for the branching ratios and longitudinal polarization fractions in the $B^0 \to K^{\ast 0} {\bar K}^{\ast 0}$ and $B^+ \to \rho^0 K^{\ast +}$ modes are in good agreement with the new experimental data. However, the calculated longitudinal polarization fraction for $B_s \to K^{\ast 0} {\bar K}^{\ast 0}$ is significantly larger than the LHCb measurement. Moreover, the predicted (helicity-dependent) CP asymmetries in $B^+ \to \rho^0 K^{\ast +}$ are about $30 \%$ smaller than the observed values. These discrepancies point to a rich interplay between different topological amplitudes, highlighting the need for further theoretical investigation to resolve the long-standing polarization puzzle in two-body $B$ decays into vector mesons.

Semileptonic decays $D_{(s)} \to \eta^{(\prime)} \ell^+ \nu_\ell$ from QCD Light-Cone Sum Rules

In light of recent precision measurements from BESIII, we reanalyze the $D, D_s \to \eta^{(\prime)}$ transition form factors using QCD light-cone sum rules, incorporating high-twist contributions and well-established next-to-leading-order QCD corrections. Our analysis confirms the chiral enhancement effect arising from twist-3 light-cone distribution amplitudes of the pseudoscalar mesons, and demonstrates a rapid convergence of the operator product expansion. The resulting high-accuracy form factors enable us to determine the optimal $\eta$-$\eta^\prime$ mixing parameters from the precise experimental data for the $D, D_s \to \eta^{(\prime)} \ell^+ \nu_\ell$ (with $\ell = e, \mu$) differential decay rates. We find that the BESIII data strongly favor a set of mixing parameters, characterized by small decay constants and a large mixing angle, in the quark flavor basis. Notably, the light-cone-sum-rule predictions for the decays $D \to \eta^{(\prime)} \ell^+ \nu_\ell$, induced by weak $c\to d$ current, reach a precision comparable to the BESIII experimental results. Nevertheless, further refined measurements and more accurate form-factor determinations will be essential to scrutinize the potential role of gluonic components in charmed meson semileptonic decays.

Non-perturbative flavor asymmetry in the nucleon and deuteron: The light-front Hamiltonian effective field theory approach

We investigate non-perturbative multi-pion contributions to nucleon flavor asymmetry within the framework of Light-Front Hamiltonian Effective Field Theory (LFHEFT). Utilizing a Fock sector expansion, we systematically incorporate pionic degrees of freedom, with the nucleon-pion interactions governed by a scalar variant of chiral effective field theory. Our results demonstrate that the non-perturbatively calculated longitudinal momentum distributions exhibit significant deviations from leading-order perturbative predictions, emphasizing the importance of higher-order Fock components in describing the proton's sea quark structure. Furthermore, we demonstrate the feasibility of extending this framework to investigate nuclear effects in light nuclei, such as the deuteron. This unified approach provides a consistent basis for analyzing the interplay between intrinsic nucleon structure and nuclear modifications, potentially offering new insights into the flavor asymmetry observed in fixed-target and collider experiments.

Tomography of high-twist proton structure through $ep$ elastic scattering

We present the first high-twist study of the proton form factors $F_{1,2}(Q^2)$ in $ep$ elastic scattering based on the perturbative QCD $k_T$ factorization, $Q^2$ being momentum transfer squared. It is motivated by unexpectedly large higher-power contributions from subleading-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs), which are attributed to the enhancement in endpoint regions of parton momentum fractions. We highlight that the endpoint enhancement, tamed by the $k_T$ resummation effect, is crucial for accommodating the approximate scaling behavior of the $Q^4F_1(Q^2)$ data at intermediate $Q^2\sim {\cal O}(10)$ GeV$^2$. The proton LCDAs up to twist 6 are then extracted, and verified by the charge-parity asymmetries observed in hadronic heavy baryon decays. Our work provides new insights into the proton three-dimensional structure and manifests the precision requirement for reliable perturbative analyses of baryonic exclusive processes.

Reviving the energy-dependent partonic structure of $f_0(980)$ via two-pion distribution amplitudes

We present a novel framework for analyzing four-body semileptonic weak decays, performing the first high-twist analysis of the $D_s \to \left[ \pi\pi \right]_{\rm S}$ form factors using light-cone distribution amplitudes for the isoscalar two-pion state ($2\pi$DAs). It is motivated by persistent tensions between phenomenological cascade analyses and QCD-based interpretations of the partonic structure of $f_0$ meson. Our study reveals that the twist-3 $2\pi$DAs incorporate an asymmetry in the partial-wave expansion, a feature absent in single $f_0$ distribution amplitudes, that drives a substantial cancellation between twist-2 and twist-3 contributions to the form factors. As a result, the predicted decay rate falls significantly below the experimental value. These findings indicate that the isoscalar two-pion system near the charm scale is not primarily a $q{\bar q}$ state, reviving the energy-dependent partonic structures of light scalar mesons by highlighting a fundamental limitation of the single-meson LCDA approach in describing such complex systems.

Semileptonic Decays of $D \to \rho l^+ \nu$ and $D_{(s)} \to K^\ast l^+ \nu$ from Light-Cone Sum Rules

We investigate the semileptonic decays of charmed mesons to light vector mesons within the framework of light-cone sum rules. Our calculation is performed at leading order in QCD coupling, incorporating contributions up to twist-five accuracy from both two-particle and three-particle light-cone distribution amplitudes. Transition form factors are predicted twist by twist to assess the convergence property of the operator product expansion. It is verified that the twist-four and twist-five contributions are indeed negligible for all the decays under consideration. Twist-three dominance is observed for some of the form factors, subject to heavy quark effective field theory interpretation. Branching ratios for the decays $D^+ \to \rho^0 \ell^+\nu_\ell$ , $D_s^+ \to K^{\ast0} \ell^+\nu_\ell$, $D^0 \to K^{\ast-} \ell^+\nu_\ell$ and $D^+ \to \bar{K}^{\ast0} \ell^+\nu_\ell$ are obtained, and a $10\%$--$20\%$ discrepancy from experimental measurements is found. Our finding indicates that the resonant-width and non-resonant QCD backgrounds effects should be potentially significant, implying the necessity to further implement their contributions in future precision studies of the semileptonic charm decays.

QCD analysis of $B \to \pi\pi$ form factors and the $\vert V_{ub} \vert$ extraction from $B_{l4}$ decays

The $B_{l4}$ decays offer an independent method for determining the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $\vert V_{ub} \vert$, with a QCD analysis of the underlying $B \to \pi\pi$ form factors serving as a crucial component. We present a comprehensive QCD analysis of the $B \to \pi\pi$ form factors within the framework of light-cone sum rules, employing two-pion light-cone distribution amplitudes. For the first time, we derive the twist-three $2\pi$DAs explicitly by exploiting the conformal symmetry of massless QCD. This breakthrough enables the first systematic calculation of higher-power corrections to the $B \to \pi\pi$-type transitions. Leveraging the recently measured partial decay fractions of $B^+ \to \pi^+\pi^- l^+ \nu_l$ by the Belle detector, we obtain $\vert V_{ub} \vert = \left( 4.27 \pm 0.49\vert_{\rm data} \pm 0.55\vert_{\rm LCSRs} \right) \times 10^{-3}$ within the dominant region of the $\rho$ resonance. We clarify that the relatively small value of $\vert V_{ub} \vert$ extracted from $B \to \rho l \nu$, when compared to the golden channel $B \to \pi l\nu$, arises due to the finite width and nonresonant effects. We anticipate future measurements of purely isovector and isoscalar $B_{l4}$ decays, which will aid in reducing uncertainties by enhancing our understanding of the $\pi\pi$ phase shifts in the two-pion distribution amplitudes through heavy flavor decays.

Form factors of light pseudoscalar mesons from the perturbative QCD approach

We study the electromagnetic and meson-photon transition form factors (TFF) of light pseudoscalar mesons from the perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach. To comprehensively account for both the longitudinal and transverse nonperturbative dynamics of hadronic constituents, we incorpoarate intrinsic transverse momentum distributions (iTMDs) alongside the conventional light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs). The main motivations of this work are the disjointedness of electromagnetic form factors between the theoretical predictions and the experimental measurements, and the BaBar-Belle tension of pion-photon transition form factor in the large momentum transfers. Our calculation is carried out at the next-to-leading-order for the contributions from leading and subleading twist LCDAs, and leading order for the twist four contributions. Notably, this work presents the first systematic evaluation of higher-twist contributions to meson-photon TFFs. The key findings are: (a) iTMDs play a crucial role in describing form factor data, particularly in the small-to-intermediate momentum transfer region where they induce significant modifications to pQCD predictions. (b) The extracted transverse size parameters for valence quark states are found to be $\beta_\pi^2 = 0.51 \pm 0.04$ GeV$^{-2}$ and $\beta_K^2 = 0.30 \pm 0.05$ GeV$^{-2}$, the chiral mass of pion meson $m_0^\pi$ at $1$ GeV is determined to be $1.84 \pm 0.07$ GeV. (c) The meson-photon TFFs are predominantly governed by leading-twist LCDAs. The iTMDs-enhanced pQCD results show better agreement with Belle's pion TFF data across intermediate and large momentum transfers and favor a small $\eta-\eta^\prime$ mixing angle. (d) Remarkably, the inclusion of iTMDs extends the applicability of pQCD calculations down to a few GeV$^2$ for all considered form factors, significantly improving the theory-data consistency.

Flavor Physics at the CEPC: a General Perspective

We discuss the landscape of flavor physics at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the nominal luminosity outlined in its Technical Design Report. The CEPC is designed to operate in multiple modes to address a variety of tasks. At the $Z$ pole, the expected production of 4 Tera $Z$ bosons will provide unique and highly precise measurements of $Z$ boson couplings, while the substantial number of boosted heavy-flavored quarks and leptons produced in clean $Z$ decays will facilitate investigations into their flavor physics with unprecedented precision. We investigate the prospects of measuring various physics benchmarks and discuss their implications for particle theories and phenomenological models. Our studies indicate that, with its highlighted advantages and anticipated excellent detector performance, the CEPC can explore beauty and $\tau$ physics in ways that are superior to or complementary with the Belle II and Large-Hadron-Collider-beauty experiments, potentially enabling the detection of new physics at energy scales of 10 TeV and above. This potential also extends to the observation of yet-to-be-discovered rare and exotic processes, as well as testing fundamental principles such as lepton flavor universality, lepton and baryon number conservation, etc., making the CEPC a vibrant platform for flavor physics research. The $WW$ threshold scan, Higgs-factory operation and top-pair productions of the CEPC further enhance its merits in this regard, especially for measuring the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, and Flavor-Changing-Neutral-Current physics of Higgs boson and top quarks. We outline the requirements for detector performance and considerations for future development to achieve the anticipated scientific goals.

Shedding light on the intrinsic transversal momentum distributions of pion and kaon

We propose to introduce the intrinsic transversal momentum distribution functions (iTMDs), in conjunction with the light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs), to elucidate the probability amplitude of encountering a meson state wherein the partons swiftly traverse along the longitudinal axis while gently oscillating in the transversal plane. The primary motivation stems from the oversight of soft transverse dynamics within the $k_T$ factorization formalism of an exclusive QCD process, which confines perturbative QCD (pQCD) predictions to scenarios involving large momentum transfers. We meticulously investigate the $\pi$ and $K$ electromagnetic form factors using the iTMDs-improved pQCD calculation at next-to-leading order. By analyzing data in the timelike physical regions, we obtain the transversal-size parameters $\beta_\pi^2 = 0.51 \pm 0.04$ GeV$^{-2}$ and $\beta_K^2 = 0.30 \pm 0.05$ GeV$^2$. We then extract the chiral mass of pion to be $m_0^\pi(1 \, {\rm GeV}) = 1.84 \pm 0.07$ GeV and explain the precise measurements of kaon form factor in the perturbative timelike region. As a remarkable byproduct, we found that the incorporation of iTMDs improves the pQCD predictions for electromagnetic form factors, extending the applicable range to a few GeV$^2$. This improvement allows for direct comparison with existing measurements and lattice QCD evaluations.

Flavor asymmetry from the non-perturbative nucleon sea

We demonstrate, in the context of a scalar version of the chiral effective field theory, that the multi-sea quark contribution to the nucleon is significant and highly non-trivial in sharp contrast to the prediction of perturbation theory. The non-perturbative calculation is performed in the Fock sector dependent renormalization scheme on the light front, in which the non-perturbative renormalization is incorporated. The calculation suggests that a fully non-perturbative calculation of the chiral EFT is needed to obtain a robust result to be compared with the recent experimental measurement of flavor asymmetry in the proton.

$D_s \to f_0$ form factors and the $D_s^+ \to \left[ \pi\pi \right]_{\rm S} e^+ \nu_e$ decay from light-cone sum rules

In this paper we revisit $D_s \to f_0$ form factors from the light-cone sum rules with the light meson light-cone distribution amplitudes. The main motivation of this study is the differential decay width of $D_s \to \left[\pi\pi \right]_{\rm S} e \nu_e$ measured recently by BESIII collaboration and the $D_s \to f_0$ form factor extracted under the intermediate resonant model. Our result of the differential width of $D_s^+ \to f_0 (\to \left[ \pi\pi \right]_{\rm S}) e^+ \nu_e$ decay obtained under the narrow width approximation is a litter bit lower than the data, the result obtained under the resonant Flatt\'e model is in consistent with the data while shows a litter bit larger, indicating a sizable mixing $\sim 20\degree$ between ${\bar s}s$ and ${\bar u}u+{\bar d}d$ of $f_0$. In order to obtain a model independent prediction, we suggest to calculate $D_s \to \left[ \pi\pi \right]_{\rm S}$ form factors with the isoscalar scalar dipion light-cone distribution amplitudes. Our calculation of $D_s \to \left[ \pi\pi \right]_{\rm S}$ form factors is carried out at the leading twist level due to the finite knowledge of dipion system, the result of differential width shows a moderate evolution in contrast to that obtained from the narrow width approximation and the Flatt\'e model, revealing a bright prospect to study the four-body leptonic decays of heavy mesons with the dimeson light-cone distribution amplitudes.

Determination of pion distribution amplitudes from the electromagnetic form factor with the data-driven dispersion relation

We study the pion electromagnetic form factor in the modulus squared dispersion relation, and do the model independent extraction of the most important nonperturbative parameters in pion light-cone distribution amplitude. The motivation of this work is the recent measurement of timelike form factor in the resonant regions, which makes up the piece lacking solid QCD-based calculation. With the perturbative QCD calculation up to next-to-leading-order QCD corrections and twist four level of meson distribution amplitudes, we obtain the chiral mass of pion meson as $m_0^\pi(1 \, {\rm GeV}) = 1.31^{+0.27}_{-0.30} \, {\rm GeV}$. More accuracy measurement of the timelike form factor are desirable to help us to determine the lowest gegenbauer moments in pion distribution amplitudes with the data-driven dispersion relation method developed in this work.

Charmless two-body $B$ meson decays in perturbative QCD factorization approach

The perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach based on $k_T$ factorization has made a great achievement for the QCD calculation of the hadronic B decays. Regulating the endpoint divergence by the transverse momentum of quarks in the propagators, one can do the perturbation calculation for kinds of diagrams including the annihilation type diagrams. In this paper, we review the current status of PQCD factorization calculation of two-body charmless $B\to PP, PV, VV$ decays up to the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections. two new power suppressed terms in decaying amplitudes are also taken into account. By using the universal input (non-perturbative) parameters, we collected the branching ratios and ${\bf CP}$ asymmetry parameters for all the charmless two body $B$ decays, calculated in the PQCD approach up to the NLO, including some power suppressed terms in decaying amplitudes. The results are compared with the ones from QCD factorization approach, soft-collinear effective theory approach and the current experimental measurements. For most considered B meson decays, the PQCD results for branching ratios agree well with other approaches and the experimental data. The PQCD predictions for the ${\bf CP}$ asymmetry parameters for many of the decay channels do not agree with other approaches, but have a better agreement with the experimental data. The longstanding $K \pi $ puzzle about the pattern of the direct CP asymmetries of the penguin-dominated $B \to K \pi $ decays can be understood after the inclusion of the NLO contributions in PQCD. The NLO corrections and power suppressed terms play an important role in the color suppressed and pure annihilation type $B$ decay modes. These rare decays are more sensitive to different types of corrections, providing opportunity to examine the factorization approach with the more precise experimental measurements.

$D_s^{\ast} \to \phi$ helicity form factors and the exclusive weak decays

The decay width of the $D_s^{\ast}$ meson is dominated by the electromagnetic mode $D_s^\ast \to D_s \gamma$, and it is thus the longest-lived charged vector meson. In light of this point, we perform the first QCD LCSRs calculation of $D_s^{\ast}\to \phi$ helicity form factors and discuss the experiment potential of discovering exclusive $D_s^{\ast}$ weak decays. The main result is the partial decay widths, which read as $\Gamma_{D_s^\ast \to l \nu} = 2.44 \times 10^{-12} \, {\rm GeV}$, $\Gamma_{D_s^\ast \to \phi l \nu} = (3.28^{+0.82}_{-0.71}) \times 10^{-14} \, {\rm GeV}$, $\Gamma_{D_s^{\ast} \to \phi \pi} = ( 3.81^{+1.52}_{-1.33} ) \times 10^{-14} \, {\rm GeV}$ and $\Gamma_{D_s^{\ast}\to \phi \rho} = ( 1.16^{+0.42}_{-0.39} ) \times 10^{-13} \, {\rm GeV}$. We show that these channels are promising in the near future, serving as the first experimental observation of weak decays of a vector meson, and would open up a new playground for precision test of the standard model.

Probing isovector scalar mesons in the charmless three-body $B$ decays

We propose to study the multiparticle configurations of isovector scalar mesons, saying $a_0(980)$ and $a_0(1450)$, in the charmless three-body $B$ decays by considering the width effects. Two scenarios of $a_0$ configurations are assumed, in which the first one take $a_0(980)$ as the lowest-lying $q{\bar q}$ state and $a_0(1450)$ as the first radial excited state, the second one take $a_0(1450)$ as the lowest-lying $q{\bar q}$ state and $a_0(1950)$ as the first radial excited state while $a_0(980)$ is not a $q{\bar q}$ state. Within these two scenarios, we do the PQCD calculation for the quasi-two-body $B \to a_0 \left[\to K{\bar K}/\pi\eta \right] h$ decays and extract the corresponding branching fractions of two-body $B \to a_0 h$ decays under the narrow width approximation. Our predictions show that the first scenario of $a_0(980)$ configuration can not be excluded by the available measurements in $B$ decays, the contributions from $a_0(1450)$ to the branching fractions in most channels are comparable in the first and second scenarios. Several channels are suggested for the forthcoming experimental measurements to reveal the multiparticle configurations of $a_0$, such as the channel $B^0 \to a_0^-(980) \left[\to \pi^-\eta \right] \pi^+$ with the largest predicted branching fraction, the channels $B^0 \to a_0^{\pm}(1450) \left[\to K^\pm{\bar K}^0, \pi^\pm\eta \right] \pi^\mp$ whose branching fractions obtained in the second scenario is about three times larger in magnitude than that obtained in the first scenario, and also the channels $B^+ \to a_0^+(1950) \left[ K^+{\bar K}^0/\pi^+\eta \right] K^0$ whose branching fractions are linear dependent on the partial width $\Gamma_{a_0(1950) \to KK/\pi\eta}$.

The role of $D_{(s)}^\ast$ and their contributions in $B_{(s)}\to D_{(s)} h h^\prime$ decays

We demonstrate the roles of $D_{(s)}^\ast$ and their contributions in the quasi-two-body decays $B_{(s)} \to D_{(s)} h h^\prime$ ($h, h^\prime = \{\pi, K\}$) in the perturbative QCD approach, stemming from the quark flavour changing $\bar{b} \to \bar{c} \, q_2 \, \bar{q}_1$ and $\bar{b} \to c \, \bar{q_1} \, \bar{q_2}$ with $q_1, q_2 = \{s/d, u\}$. The main motivation of this study is the measurements of significant derivations from the simple phase-space model in the channels $B_{(s)} \to D_{(s)} h h^\prime$ at $B$ factories and LHC, which is now clarified as the Breit-Wigner-tail effects from the corresponding intermediate resonant states $D_{(s)}^\ast$. We confirm that these effect from $D^\ast$ is small ($\sim 5\%$) in the quasi-two-body $B_{(s)} \to D \pi \pi (K)$ decaying channels, and predict the tiny ($< 1 \%$) contributions from $D^\ast$ in the $B_{(s)} \to D_s K \pi (K)$ decaying channels, our result for the $B_s \to D K \pi (K)$ decaying channels contributed only from the Breit-Wigner-tail effect of $D_s^\ast$ is in agreement with the current LHCb measurement. We recommend the Belle-II and the LHCb collaborations to restudy the processes $B^+\to \bar D^{\ast 0}\pi^+(K^+) \to D^-\pi^+\pi^+(K^+)$ to reveal the structure of $D^{\ast 0}$ and the strong decay $D^{\ast 0} \to D^+ \pi^-$.

We also comment on the current status of the PQCD approach and highlight some key issues to develop it in the near future for more phenomenological applications.
