ALIVE-LIO: Degeneracy-Aware Learning of Inertial Velocity for Enhancing ESKF-Based LiDAR-Inertial Odometry

Odometry estimation using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and an inertial measurement unit (IMU), known as LiDAR-inertial odometry (LIO), often suffers from performance degradation in degenerate environments, such as long corridors or single-wall scenarios with narrow field-of-view LiDAR. To address this limitation, we propose ALIVE-LIO, a degeneracy-aware LiDAR-inertial odometry framework that explicitly enhances state estimation in degenerate directions. The key contribution of ALIVE-LIO is the strategic integration of a deep neural network into a classical error-state Kalman filter (ESKF) to compensate for the loss of LiDAR observability. Specifically, ALIVE-LIO employs a neural network to predict the body-frame velocity and selectively fuses this prediction into the ESKF only when degeneracy is detected, providing effective state updates along degenerate directions. This design enables ALIVE-LIO to utilize the probabilistic structure and consistency of the ESKF while benefiting from learning-based motion estimation. The proposed method was evaluated on publicly available datasets exhibiting degeneracy, as well as on our own collected data. Experimental results demonstrate that ALIVE-LIO substantially reduces pose drift in degenerate environments, yielding the most competitive results in 22 out of 32 sequences. The implementation of ALIVE-LIO will be publicly available.

GenZ-LIO: Generalizable LiDAR-Inertial Odometry Beyond Confined--Open Boundaries

For field robotic missions such as inspection, search-and-rescue, and exploration, light detection and ranging (LiDAR)-inertial odometry (LIO) can serve as a core component of autonomy by providing localization and mapping in GNSS-denied or unstructured environments. However, transitions between confined and open spaces, which are commonly encountered in field deployments, can induce substantial changes in scan density and local geometric structure, thereby reducing the robustness and computational efficiency of LIO. To address these issues, we present GenZ-LIO, a generalizable LIO framework designed to adapt to variations in spatial scale across confined and open environments. GenZ-LIO comprises three components: (i) scale-aware adaptive voxelization for regulating scan downsampling across spatial scale changes, (ii) hybrid-metric state update for combining point-to-plane and point-to-point residuals under varying geometric structure, and (iii) voxel-pruned correspondence search for efficient point-to-point matching. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation using 42 sequences from nine public datasets and our newly collected NarrowWide dataset to analyze LIO performance under spatial scale variations across diverse field scenarios. Across the evaluated sequences, GenZ-LIO maintains stable odometry estimation without divergence, indicating practical robustness under the tested field conditions. The source code and collected dataset will be made publicly available upon publication.

Spacer: Towards Engineered Scientific Inspiration

Recent advances in LLMs have made automated scientific research the next frontline in the path to artificial superintelligence. However, these systems are bound either to tasks of narrow scope or the limited creative capabilities of LLMs. We propose Spacer, a scientific discovery system that develops creative and factually grounded concepts without external intervention. Spacer attempts to achieve this via 'deliberate decontextualization,' an approach that disassembles information into atomic units - keywords - and draws creativity from unexplored connections between them. Spacer consists of (i) Nuri, an inspiration engine that builds keyword sets, and (ii) the Manifesting Pipeline that refines these sets into elaborate scientific statements. Nuri extracts novel, high-potential keyword sets from a keyword graph built with 180,000 academic publications in biological fields. The Manifesting Pipeline finds links between keywords, analyzes their logical structure, validates their plausibility, and ultimately drafts original scientific concepts. According to our experiments, the evaluation metric of Nuri accurately classifies high-impact publications with an AUROC score of 0.737. Our Manifesting Pipeline also successfully reconstructs core concepts from the latest top-journal articles solely from their keyword sets. An LLM-based scoring system estimates that this reconstruction was sound for over 85% of the cases. Finally, our embedding space analysis shows that outputs from Spacer are significantly more similar to leading publications compared with those from SOTA LLMs.

Fronthaul Compression and Beamforming Optimization for Secure Cell-free ISAC Systems

This letter aims to provide sensing capabilities for a potential eavesdropper, while simultaneously enabling the secure communications with the legitimate users in a cell-free multipleinput multiple-output system with limited fronthaul links. In order to maximize the sensing performance, the joint design of fronthaul compression and beamforming is proposed considering the constraints on the finite fronthaul-capacity links and the maximum power along with the worst-case secrecy rate requirements. To this end, we propose an algorithmic solution based on the minorization-maximization method and semidefinite programming relaxation techniques, whose performance superiority is verified via simulations compared to the reference schemes such as distributed sensing and random beamforming.

3D Teeth Reconstruction from Panoramic Radiographs using Neural Implicit Functions

Panoramic radiography is a widely used imaging modality in dental practice and research. However, it only provides flattened 2D images, which limits the detailed assessment of dental structures. In this paper, we propose Occudent, a framework for 3D teeth reconstruction from panoramic radiographs using neural implicit functions, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the first work to do so. For a given point in 3D space, the implicit function estimates whether the point is occupied by a tooth, and thus implicitly determines the boundaries of 3D tooth shapes. Firstly, Occudent applies multi-label segmentation to the input panoramic radiograph. Next, tooth shape embeddings as well as tooth class embeddings are generated from the segmentation outputs, which are fed to the reconstruction network. A novel module called Conditional eXcitation (CX) is proposed in order to effectively incorporate the combined shape and class embeddings into the implicit function. The performance of Occudent is evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative measures. Importantly, Occudent is trained and validated with actual panoramic radiographs as input, distinct from recent works which used synthesized images. Experiments demonstrate the superiority of Occudent over state-of-the-art methods.

NeBLa: Neural Beer-Lambert for 3D Reconstruction of Oral Structures from Panoramic Radiographs

Panoramic radiography (Panoramic X-ray, PX) is a widely used imaging modality for dental examination. However, PX only provides a flattened 2D image, lacking in a 3D view of the oral structure. In this paper, we propose NeBLa (Neural Beer-Lambert) to estimate 3D oral structures from real-world PX. NeBLa tackles full 3D reconstruction for varying subjects (patients) where each reconstruction is based only on a single panoramic image. We create an intermediate representation called simulated PX (SimPX) from 3D Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data based on the Beer-Lambert law of X-ray rendering and rotational principles of PX imaging. SimPX aims at not only truthfully simulating PX, but also facilitates the reverting process back to 3D data. We propose a novel neural model based on ray tracing which exploits both global and local input features to convert SimPX to 3D output. At inference, a real PX image is translated to a SimPX-style image with semantic regularization, and the translated image is processed by generation module to produce high-quality outputs. Experiments show that NeBLa outperforms prior state-of-the-art in reconstruction tasks both quantitatively and qualitatively. Unlike prior methods, NeBLa does not require any prior information such as the shape of dental arches, nor the matched PX-CBCT dataset for training, which is difficult to obtain in clinical practice. Non-Terrestrial Networks for UAVs: Base Station Service Provisioning Schemes with Antenna Tilt

By focusing on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications in non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), this paper provides a guideline on the appropriate base station (BS) service provisioning scheme with considering the antenna tilt angle of BS. Specifically, two service provisioning schemes are considered including the inclusive-service BS (IS-BS) scheme, which makes BSs serve both ground users (GUs) and aerial users (AUs) (i.e., UAVs) simultaneously, and the exclusive-service BS (ES-BS) scheme, which has BSs for GUs and BSs for AUs. By considering the antenna tilt angle-based channel gain, we derive the network outage probability for both IS-BS and ES-BS schemes, and show the existence of the optimal tilt angle that minimizes the network outage probability after analyzing the conflict impact of the antenna tilt angle. We also analyze the impact of various network parameters, including the ratio of GUs to total users and densities of total and interfering BSs, on the network outage probability. Finally, we analytically and numerically show in which environments each service provisioning scheme can be superior to the other one.

Securing Communications with Friendly Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Jammers

In this paper, we analyze the impact of a friendly unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) jammer on UAV communications in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. We first present channel components determined by the line-of-sight (LoS) probability between the friendly UAV jammer and the ground device, and introduce different channel fadings for LoS and non-line-of-sight (NLoS) links. We then derive the secrecy transmission probability satisfying both constraints of legitimate and wiretap channels. We also analyze the secrecy transmission probability in the presence of randomly distributed multiple friendly UAV jammers. Finally, we show the existence of the optimal UAV jammer location, and the impact of the density of eavesdroppers, the transmission power of the UAV jammer, and the density of UAV jammers on the optimal location.

RouTEE: A Secure Payment Network Routing Hub using Trusted Execution Environments

Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum have made payment transactions possible without a trusted third party, but they have a scalability issue due to their consensus mechanisms. Payment networks have emerged to overcome this limitation by executing transactions outside of the blockchain, which is why these are referred to as off-chain transactions. In order to establish a payment channel between two users, the users lock their deposits in the blockchain, and then they can pay each other through the channel. Furthermore, payment networks support multi-hop payments that allow users to transfer their balances to other users who are connected to them via multiple channels. However, multi-hop payments are hard to be accomplished, as they are heavily dependent on routing users on a payment path from a sender to a receiver. Although routing hubs can make multi-hop payments more practical and efficient, they need a lot of collateral locked for a long period and have privacy issues in terms of payment history. We propose RouTEE, a secure payment routing hub that is fully feasible without the hub's deposit. Unlike existing payment networks, RouTEE provides high balance liquidity, and details about payments are concealed from hosts by leveraging trusted execution environments (TEEs). RouTEE is designed to make rational hosts behave honestly, by introducing a new routing fee scheme and a secure settlement method. Moreover, users do not need to monitor the blockchain in real-time or run full nodes. They can participate in RouTEE by simply verifying block headers through light clients; furthermore, having only one channel with RouTEE is sufficient to interact with other users. Our implementation demonstrates that RouTEE is highly efficient and outperforms Lightning Network that is the state-of-the-art payment network.
