Constraints on the intrinsic charm content of the proton from recent ATLAS data

Constraints on the intrinsic charm probability $\wccm = P_{{\mathrm{c}\bar \mathrm{c}} / \mathrm{p}}$ in the proton are obtained for the first time from LHC measurements. The ATLAS Collaboration data for the production of prompt photons, accompanied by a charm-quark jet in pp collisions at $\sqrt s = 8 $ TeV, are used. The upper limit \mbox{$\wccm < 1.93$~\%} is obtained at the 68~\% confidence level. This constraint is primarily determined from the theoretical scale and systematical experimental uncertainties. Suggestions for reducing these uncertainties are discussed. The implications of intrinsic heavy quarks in the proton for future studies at the LHC are also discussed.

Parton Radiation and Fragmentation from LHC to FCC-ee

This document collects the proceedings of the "Parton Radiation and Fragmentation from LHC to FCC-ee" workshop (http://indico.cern.ch/e/ee\_jets16) held at CERN in Nov. 2016. The writeup reviews the latest theoretical and experimental developments on parton radiation and parton-hadron fragmentation studies --including analyses of LEP, B-factories, and LHC data-- with a focus on the future perspectives reacheable in $e^+e^-$ measurements at the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee), with multi-ab$^{-1}$ integrated luminosities yielding 10$^{12}$ and 10$^{8}$ jets from Z and W bosons decays as well as 10$^5$ gluon jets from Higgs boson decays. The main topics discussed are: (i) parton radiation and parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions (splitting functions at NNLO, small-$z$ NNLL resummations, global FF fits including Monte Carlo (MC) and neural-network analyses of the latest Belle/BaBar high-precision data, parton shower MC generators), (ii) jet properties (quark-gluon discrimination, $e^+e^-$ event shapes and multi-jet rates at NNLO+N$^{n}$LL, jet broadening and angularities, jet substructure at small-radius, jet charge determination, $e^+e^-$ jet reconstruction algorithms), (iii) heavy-quark jets (dead cone effect, charm-bottom separation, gluon-to-$b\bar{b}$ splitting), and (iv) non-perturbative QCD phenomena (colour reconnection, baryon and strangeness production, Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac final-state correlations, colour string dynamics: spin effects, helix hadronization).

The Physics of Heavy Quark Distributions in Hadrons: Collider Tests

We present a review of the current understanding of the heavy quark distributions in the nucleon and their impact on collider physics. The origin of strange, charm and bottom quark pairs at high light-front (LF) momentum fractions in hadron wave functions---the "intrinsic" quarks, is reviewed. The determination of heavy-quark parton distribution functions (PDFs) is particularly significant for the analysis of hard processes at LHC energies. We show that a careful study of the inclusive production of open charm and the production of $γ$/$Z$/$W$ particles, accompanied by the heavy jets at large transverse momenta can give essential information on the intrinsic heavy quark (IQ) distributions. We also focus on the theoretical predictions concerning other observables which are very sensitive to the intrinsic charm contribution to PDFs including Higgs production at high xf and novel fixed target measurements which can be tested at the LHC.

Finding the Charge of the top quark in the Dilepton Channel

There is a question about the identity of the top quark. Is it the top quark of the Standard Model (SM) with electric charge 2/3 or is it an exotic quark with charge -4/3? An exotic quark has been proposed by D. Chang et al.\cite{hep-ph/9810531, hep-ph/9805273}. This analysis will use the standard CDF run II dilepton sample. The key ingredients of this analysis are the correct pairing of the lepton and b-jet, the determination of the charge of the b-jet. The analysis proceeds by using a binomial distribution and is formulated so that rejecting one hypothesis means support for the other hypothesis.

Bose-Einstein correlations at LEP and Tevatron energies

Using the Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) implemented in PYTHIA we investigated a possibility of the CDF experiment at the Tevatron to see the two-particle correlations in the final state of interactions. The approach based on quantum field theory at finite temperature was applied to the ALEPH data at LEP, and the BEC important parameters were retrieved.
