Suppression of Edge Localized Modes in ITER Baseline Scenario in EAST using Edge Localized Magnetic Perturbations

We report the suppression of Type-I Edge Localized Modes (ELMs) in the EAST tokamak under ITER baseline conditions using $n = 4$ Resonant Magnetic Perturbations (RMPs), while maintaining energy confinement. Achieving RMP-ELM suppression requires a normalized plasma beta ($\beta_N$) exceeding 1.8 in a target plasma with $q_{95}\approx 3.1$ and tungsten divertors. Quasi-linear modeling shows high plasma beta enhances RMP-driven neoclassical toroidal viscosity torque, reducing field penetration thresholds. These findings demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of high $n$ RMPs for ELM suppression in ITER.

Observation of the Electromagnetic Dalitz Transition $h_c \rightarrow e^+e^-\eta_c$

Using $(27.12\pm 0.14)\times10^8$ $\psi(3686)$ decays and data samples of $e^+e^-$ collisions with $\sqrt{s}$ from 4.130 to 4.780~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the electromagnetic Dalitz transition $h_c\to e^+e^-\eta_c$ with a statistical significance of $5.4\sigma$. We measure the ratio of the branching fractions $\frac{\mathcal{B}(h_c\rightarrow e^+e^-\eta_c)}{\mathcal{B}(h_c\rightarrow \gamma \eta_c)}$ separately for the $h_c$ samples produced via $\psi(3686)\to\pi^0h_c$ and $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-h_c$. The average ratio is determined to be $(0.59\pm0.10(\text{stat.})\pm0.04(\text{syst.}))\%$, where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic components.

Operational Space and Plasma Performance with an RMP-ELM Suppressed Edge

The operational space and global performance of plasmas with edge-localized modes (ELMs) suppressed by resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) are surveyed by comparing AUG, DIII-D, EAST, and KSTAR stationary operating points. RMP-ELM suppression is achieved over a range of plasma currents, toroidal fields, and RMP toroidal mode numbers. Consistent operational windows in edge safety factor are found across devices, while windows in plasma shaping parameters are distinct. Accessed pedestal parameters reveal a quantitatively similar pedestal-top density limit for RMP-ELM suppression in all devices of just over 3x1019 m-3. This is surprising given the wide variance of many engineering parameters and edge collisionalities, and poses a challenge to extrapolation of the regime. Wide ranges in input power, confinement time, and stored energy are observed, with the achieved triple product found to scale like the product of current, field, and radius. Observed energy confinement scaling with engineering parameters for RMP-ELM suppressed plasmas are presented and compared with expectations from established H and L-mode scalings, including treatment of uncertainty analysis. Different scaling exponents for individual engineering parameters are found as compared to the established scalings. However, extrapolation to next-step tokamaks ITER and SPARC find overall consistency within uncertainties with the established scalings, finding no obvious performance penalty when extrapolating from the assembled multi-device RMP-ELM suppressed database. Overall this work identifies common physics for RMP-ELM suppression and highlights the need to pursue this no-ELM regime at higher magnetic field and different plasma physical size.

Search for $\bar{\Lambda}$-$\Lambda$ oscillations in the decay $J/\psi \to p K^- \bar{\Lambda}+c.c.$

We report the first search for $\bar\Lambda$--$\Lambda$ oscillations in the decay $J/\psi \to p K^- \bar{\Lambda} + c.c.$ by analyzing $1.31\times10^9$ $J/\psi$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The $J/\psi$ events are produced using $e^+e^-$ collisions at a center of mass energy $\sqrt{s}= 3.097$~GeV. No evidence for hyperon oscillations is observed. The upper limit for the oscillation rate of $\bar\Lambda$ to $\Lambda$ hyperons is determined to be $\mathcal{P}(\Lambda)=\frac{\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to pK^-\Lambda+c.c.)}{\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to pK^-\bar\Lambda+c.c.)}<4.4\times10^{-6}$ corresponding to an oscillation parameter $\delta m_{\Lambda\bar\Lambda}$ of less than $3.8\times10^{-18}$~GeV at the 90\% confidence level.

Extension of ELM suppression window using n=4 RMPs in EAST

The q95 window for Type-I Edge Localized Modes (ELMs) suppression using n=4 even parity Resonant Magnetic Perturbations (RMPs) has been significantly expanded to a range from 3.9 to 4.8, which is demonstrated to be reliable and repeatable in EAST over the last two years. This window is significantly wider than the previous one, which is around q95=3.7pm0.1, and is achieved using n=4 odd parity RMPs. Here, n represents the toroidal mode number of the applied RMPs and q95 is the safety factor at the 95% normalized poloidal magnetic flux. During ELM suppression, there is only a slight drop in the stored energy (<=10%). The comparison of pedestal density profiles suggests that ELM suppression is achieved when the pedestal gradient is kept lower than a threshold. This wide q95 window for ELM suppression is consistent with the prediction made by MARS-F modeling prior to the experiment, in which it is located at one of the resonant q95 windows for plasma response. The Chirikov parameter taking into account plasma response near the pedestal top, which measures the plasma edge stochasticity, significantly increases when q95 exceeds 4, mainly due to denser neighboring rational surfaces. Modeling of plasma response by the MARS-F code shows a strong coupling between resonant and non-resonant components across the pedestal region, which is characteristic of the kink-peeling like response observed during RMP-ELM suppression in previous studies on EAST. These promising results show the reliability of ELM suppression using the n=4 RMPs and expand the physical understanding on ELM suppression mechanism.

The study on transiting systems HAT-P-13, HAT-P-16 and WASP-32 through combining ground-based and TESS photometry

High-precision transit photometry supplies ideal opportunities for detecting new exoplanets and characterizing their physical properties, which usually encode valuable information for unveiling the planetary structure, atmosphere and dynamical history. We present revised properties of three transiting systems (i.e., HAT-P-13, HAT-P-16 and WASP-32) through analyzing TESS photometry and ground-based transit observations, which were obtained at the 1m and 2.4m telescopes of Yunnan Observatories, China, and the 1.2m telescope of Hamburg Observatory, Germany, as well as the data in the literature. During modelling the transit light curves, Gaussian process is employed to account for the potential systematic errors. Through comprehensive timing analysis, we find that both HAT-P-13b and HAT-P-16b show significant timing variations (TTVs) that can be explained by apsidal precession. TTVs of WASP-32b may be led by a decaying orbit due to tidal dissipation or apsidal precession. However, the current observations can not rule out the origins of three systems' TTVs from gravitational perturbations of close planetary companions conclusively.

Search for new hadronic decays of $h_{c}$ and observation of $h_{c}\to p\bar{p}\eta$

A search for the hadronic decays of the $h_{c}$ meson to the final states $p\bar{p}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$, $p\bar{p}\eta$, and $p\bar{p}\pi^0$ via the process $\psi(3686) \to \pi^{0}{h_c}$ is performed using $(4.48\pm0.03)\times10^{8}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The decay channel $h_{c}\to p\bar{p}\eta$ is observed for the first time with a significance greater than $5\sigma$ and a branching fraction of $\left( {6.41 \pm 1.74 \pm 0.53 \pm 1.00} \right) \times {10^{ -4}}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and that from the branching fraction of $\psi(3686)\to\pi^{0}h_{c}$. Strong evidence for the decay ${h_c} \to p\bar{p}{\pi^+}{\pi^-}{\pi^0}$ is found with a significance of $4.9\sigma$ and a branching fraction of $\left( {3.84 \pm 0.83 \pm0.69} \pm 0.58 \right) \times {10^{ - 3}}$. The significances include systematic uncertainties. No clear signal of the decay $h_c\to p\bar{p}\pi^{0}$ is found, and an upper limit of $6.59\times 10^{-4}$ on its branching fraction is set at the 90% confidence level.

Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of $D_{s}^{+} \to K^-K^+\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$

Using $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $6.32$ fb$^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we perform an amplitude analysis of the decay $D^+_s \to K^-K^+\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$ and determine the relative fractions and phases of different intermediate processes. Absolute branching fraction of $D^+_s\to K^-K^+\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$ decay is measured to be ($6.60\pm0.47_{\rm stat.}\pm0.35_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}$. The dominant intermediate process is $D_{s}^{+} \to a_1(1260)^+\phi, \phi\to K^-K^+, a_1(1260)^+\to \rho\pi^+, \rho\to\pi^+\pi^-$, with a branching fraction of $(5.16\pm0.41_{\rm stat.}\pm0.27_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}$.

Measurement of the $e^{+}e^{-}\to\Sigma^{0}\bar{\Sigma}^{0}$ cross sections at center-of-mass energies from $2.3864$ to $3.0200$ GeV

The Born cross sections of $e^{+}e^{-}\to \Sigma^{0}\bar{\Sigma}^{0}$ are measured at center-of-mass energies from $2.3864$ to $3.0200$ GeV using data samples with an integrated luminosity of $328.5$ pb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The analysis makes use of a novel reconstruction method for energies near production threshold, while a single-tag method is employed at other center-of-mass energies. The measured cross sections are consistent with earlier results from BaBar, with a substantially improved precision. The cross-section lineshape can be well described by a perturbative QCD-driven energy function. In addition, the effective form factors of the $\Sigma^{0}$ baryon are determined. The results provide precise experimental input for testing various theoretical predictions.

Observation of $D^{0(+)}\to K^0_S\pi^{0(+)}\omega $ and improved measurement of $D^0\to K^-\pi^+\omega$

By analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample with an integrated luminosity of $2.93\ \rm fb^{-1}$ taken at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we determine the absolute branching fractions of the hadronic decays $D^0\to K^-\pi^+\omega$, $D^0\to K^0_S\pi^0\omega$, and $D^+\to K^0_S\pi^+\omega$ to be $(3.392 \pm 0.044_{\rm stat} \pm 0.085_{\rm syst})\%$, $(0.848 \pm 0.046_{\rm stat} \pm 0.031_{\rm syst})\%$, and $(0.707 \pm 0.041_{\rm stat} \pm 0.029_{\rm syst})\%$, respectively. The accuracy of the branching fraction measurement of the decay $D^0\to K^-\pi^+\omega$ is improved by a factor of seven compared to the world average value. The $D^{0}\to K^0_S\pi^{0}\omega$ and $D^{+}\to K^0_S\pi^{+}\omega$ decays are observed for the first time.

Cross sections for the reactions $e^+e^-\rightarrow K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$, $K^+K^-K^+K^-(\pi^0)$, $\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$, $p\bar{p}\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$ in the energy region between 3.773 and 4.600 GeV

Using the data samples collected in the energy range from 3.773 to 4.600 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the dressed cross sections as a function of center-of-mass energy for $e^+e^-\rightarrow K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$, $K^+K^-K^+K^-(\pi^0)$, $\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$, and $p\bar{p}\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$. The cross sections for $e^+e^-\rightarrow K^+K^-K^+K^-\pi^0$, $p\bar{p}\pi^+\pi^-(\pi^0)$ are the first measurements. Cross sections for the other five channels are much more precise than previous results in this energy region. We also search for charmonium and charmonium-like resonances, such as the $Y(4230)$, decaying into the same final states. We find evidence of the $\psi(4040)$ decaying to $\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ with a statistical significance of $3.6\sigma$. Upper limits are provided for other decays since no clear signals are observed.

Measurement of the inclusive branching fraction for $\psi(3686)\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} + \text{anything}$

Using 5.9~pb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies from 3.640 to 3.701 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII Collider, we measure the observed cross sections of $e^+e^-\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} X$ (where $X= \text{anything}$). From a fit to these observed cross sections with the sum of continuum and $\psi(3686)$ and $J/\psi$ Breit-Wigner functions and considering initial state radiation and the BEPCII beam energy spread, we obtain for the first time the product of $\psi(3686)$ leptonic width and inclusive decay branching fraction $\Gamma^{ee}_{\psi(3686)}\mathcal B(\psi(3686)\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} X) = (373.8 \pm 6.7 \pm 20.0)$ eV, and assuming $\Gamma^{ee}_{\psi(3686)}$ is $(2.33 \pm 0.04)$ keV from PDG value, we measure $\mathcal B(\psi(3686)\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} X) = (16.04 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.90)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of $D_s^+ \to \tau^+ \nu_{\tau}$ via $\tau^+ \to e^+ \nu_e \bar{\nu}_{\tau}$

Using a dataset of 6.32 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4178 and 4226 MeV, we have measured the absolute branching fraction of the leptonic decay $D_s^+ \to \tau^+ \nu_{\tau}$ via $\tau^+ \to e^+ \nu_e \bar{\nu}_{\tau}$, and find $\mathcal{B}_{D_s^+ \to \tau^+ \nu_{\tau}}=(5.27\pm0.10\pm0.12)\times10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of 2 compared to the previous best measurement. Combining with $f_{D_s^+}$ from Lattice quantum chromodynamics calculations or the $|V_{cs}|$ from the CKMfitter group, we extract $|V_{cs}|=0.978\pm0.009\pm0.012$ and $f_{D_s^+}= (251.1\pm2.4\pm3.0)$ MeV, respectively. Combining our result with the world averages of $\mathcal{B}_{D_s^+ \to \tau^+ \nu_{\tau}}$ and $\mathcal{B}_{D_s^+ \to \mu^+ \nu_{\mu}}$, we obtain the ratio of the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}_{D_s^+ \to \tau^+ \nu_{\tau}} / \mathcal{B}_{D_s^+ \to \mu^+ \nu_{\mu}} = 9.72\pm0.37$, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of lepton flavor universality.

Measurement of cross section for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ near threshold

Using $e^+e^-$ collision data at ten center-of-mass energies between 2.644 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 500 pb$^{-1}$, we measure the cross sections and effective form factors for the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ utilizing a single-tag method. A fit to the cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ with a pQCD-driven power function is performed, from which no significant resonance or threshold enhancement is observed. In addition, the ratio of cross sections for the processes $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\Xi^{-}\bar{\Xi}^{+}$ and $\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ is calculated using recent BESIII measurement and is found to be compatible with expectation from isospin symmetry.

Cross section measurement of $e^{+}e^{-} \to K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}$ at $\sqrt{s}=2.00-3.08~{\rm GeV}$

The cross sections of the process $e^{+}e^{-} \to K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}$ are measured at fifteen center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ from $2.00$ to $3.08~{\rm GeV}$ with the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII). The results are found to be consistent with those obtained by BaBar. The product of its radiative width ($\Gamma_{e^+e^-}$) with its branching fraction to $K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}$ ($Br_{K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}}$) is $0.9 \pm 0.6 \pm 0.7~{\rm eV}$.

Weak phases and CP-symmetry tests in sequential decays of entangled double-strange baryons

Using a sample of $1.31\times10^9$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the electron-positron collider BEPCII, we analyse the full $J/\psi \to$ $\Xi^-\overline{\Xi}^+$, $\Xi^-\to \Lambda \pi^-$, $\Lambda\to p\pi^-$, $\overline{\Xi}^+\to\overline{\Lambda}\pi^+$, $\overline{\Lambda}\to\overline{p}\pi^+$ decay chain. A new method, exploiting the fact that the $\Xi^-\overline{\Xi}^+$ pair is entangled and sequentially decaying, and where the complete decay chains are reconstructed, is applied for the first time. This enables precision measurements of the decay parameters for the $\Xi^-\to\Lambda\pi^-$ decay ($\alpha_{\Xi}$, $\phi_{\Xi}$) as well as the $\overline{\Xi}^+\to\overline{\Lambda}\pi^+$ decay ($\overline{\alpha}_{\Xi}$, $\overline{\phi}_{\Xi}$). From the decay parameters, two independent CP tests were performed, quantified by the observables $A_{\rm CP}^{\Xi}$ and $\Delta \phi_\Xi$. Our results, $A_{\rm CP}^{\Xi}$ = $(6.0\pm13.4\pm5.6)\times10^{-3}$ and $\Delta \phi_\Xi= (-4.8\pm13.7\pm2.9)\times10^{-3}~{\rm rad}$, are consistent with CP symmetry. Furthermore, our method enables a separation of strong and weak $\Xi\to\Lambda\pi$ decay amplitudes. This results in the first direct measurement of the weak phase difference for any baryon decay. The result is found to be $(\xi_{P} - \xi_{S}) = (1.2\pm3.4\pm0.8)\times10^{-2}$ rad and is one of the most precise tests of CP symmetry for strange baryons. The strong phase difference is measured to be $(\delta_P - \delta_S) = (-4.0\pm3.3\pm1.7)\times10^{-2}$ rad. In addition, we provide an independent measurement of the recently debated $\Lambda$ decay parameter, $\alpha_{\Lambda} = 0.757 \pm 0.011 \pm 0.008 $. The $\Lambda\overline{\Lambda}$ asymmetry is measured to be $A_{\rm CP}^{\Lambda} = (-3.7\pm11.7\pm9.0)\times10^{-3}$.

Measurement of the branching fraction of leptonic decay $D_s^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau$ via $\tau^+\to\pi^+\pi^0\bar \nu_\tau$

By analyzing $6.32~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226\,GeV with the BESIII detector, we determine the branching fraction of the leptonic decay $D_s^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau$ with $\tau^+\to\pi^+\pi^0\bar \nu_\tau$, to be $\mathcal{B}_{D_s^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau}=(5.29\pm0.25_{\rm stat}\pm0.20_{\rm syst})\%$. We estimate the product of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ and the $D_s^+$ decay constant $f_{D^+_s}$ to be $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}|=(244.8\pm5.8_{\rm stat}\pm4.8_{\rm syst})~\mathrm{MeV}$ using the known values of the $\tau^+$ and $D_s^+$ masses as well as the $D_s^+$ lifetime, together with our branching fraction measurement. Combining with the value of $|V_{cs}|$ obtained from a global fit in the standard model and $f_{D_s^+}$ from lattice quantum chromodynamics, we obtain $f_{D_s^+}=(251.6\pm5.9_{\rm stat}\pm4.9_{\rm syst})$\,MeV and $|V_{cs}| = 0.980\pm0.023_{\rm stat}\pm0.019_{\rm syst}$.

Determination of the absolute branching fractions of $D^0\to K^-e^+\nu_e$ and $D^+\to \bar K^0 e^+\nu_e$

Using 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, we measure the absolute branching fractions of the decays $D^0\to K^-e^+\nu_e$ and $D^+\to \bar K^0 e^+\nu_e$ to be $(3.567\pm0.031_{\rm stat}\pm 0.025_{\rm syst})\%$ and $(8.68\pm0.14_{\rm stat}\pm 0.16_{\rm syst})\%$, respectively. Starting with the process $e^+e^-\to D\bar{D}$, a new reconstruction method is employed to select events that contain candidates for both $D\to \bar Ke^+\nu_e$ and $\bar D\to Ke^-\bar \nu_e$ decays. The branching fractions reported in this work are consistent within uncertainties with previous BESIII measurements that selected events containing $D\to \bar Ke^+\nu_e$ and hadronic $\bar D$ decays. Combining our results with the lifetimes of the $D^0$ and $D^+$ mesons and the previous BESIII measurements leads to a ratio of the two decay partial widths of $\frac{\bar \Gamma_{D^0\to K^{-}e^+\nu_{e}}}{\bar \Gamma_{D^{+}\to \bar K^{0}e^+\nu_{e}}}=1.039\pm0.021$. This ratio supports isospin symmetry in the $D^0\to K^-e^+\nu_e$ and $D^+\to \bar K^0 e^+\nu_e$ decays within $1.9\sigma$.
