Superconductivity in doped spin multimer systems

Binding energy, which quantifies pair formation, is a key factor in the emergence of superconductivity. Here, we show that even when multiple spins are complexly coupled, hole-doped systems, which can be mapped onto the universal hardcore boson model in the strong-binding-energy limit, exhibit promising signatures of superconductivity. We demonstrate this theory analytically and numerically in the double Kondo lattice model. Using the density-matrix renormalization group method, we show that a pairing state is maintained via a crossover even for parameters away from the strong-coupling regime. Additionally, we find that once binding energies are sufficiently generated, pair correlations develop similarly regardless of the details of local spin correlations. Our findings provide useful guidelines for research on superconductivity.

Pairing properties of correlated three-leg ladders with strong interchain couplings near 1/3 filling

We investigate the ground-state properties of correlated three-leg ladders near 1/3 filling. We apply the density-matrix renormalization group method to the three-leg t-J ladder with strong interchain couplings and evaluate its pairing nature. When holes are doped into the spin-gapped state at 1/3 filling, we find that pair correlations develop with power-law decays while spin correlations decay exponentially. On the other hand, doping of electrons into the 1/3-filled state does not give rise to substantial pair correlations. We also discuss the hole-doped state in the three-leg Hubbard model to compare it with the pairing state in the t-J model. Our numerical demonstrations provide insights into the electronic properties of trilayer nickelate superconductors.

Correlation-driven branch in doped excitonic insulators

We investigate the spectral properties of doped one-dimensional excitonic insulators. Employing matrix-product-state-based methods, we compute the single-particle spectrum and optical conductivity in a correlated two-band model. Our numerical calculation reveals the emergence of a correlation-driven in-gap branch in the doped state. The origin of the in-gap branch is examined by decomposing the propagation dynamics of a single particle, elucidating that the doping-induced branch is associated with excitonic correlations. Our demonstrations suggest that the doping-induced branch can serve as an indicator of electron-hole correlations.

Interior-Point Vanishing Problem in Semidefinite Relaxations for Neural Network Verification

Semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxation has emerged as a promising approach for neural network verification, offering tighter bounds than other convex relaxation methods for deep neural networks (DNNs) with ReLU activations. However, we identify a critical limitation in the SDP relaxation when applied to deep networks: interior-point vanishing, which leads to the loss of strict feasibility -- a crucial condition for the numerical stability and optimality of SDP. Through rigorous theoretical and empirical analysis, we demonstrate that as the depth of DNNs increases, the strict feasibility is likely to be lost, creating a fundamental barrier to scaling SDP-based verification. To address the interior-point vanishing, we design and investigate five solutions to enhance the feasibility conditions of the verification problem. Our methods can successfully solve 88% of the problems that could not be solved by existing methods, accounting for 41% of the total. Our analysis also reveals that the valid constraints for the lower and upper bounds for each ReLU unit are traditionally inherited from prior work without solid reasons, but are actually not only unbeneficial but also even harmful to the problem's feasibility. This work provides valuable insights into the fundamental challenges of SDP-based DNN verification and offers practical solutions to improve its applicability to deeper neural networks, contributing to the development of more reliable and secure systems with DNNs.

Doublon-Holon Pairing State in Photodoped Mott Insulators

We demonstrate the existence of an unconventional pairing state in photodoped Mott insulators on ladder and quasi-two-dimensional geometries, characterized by quasi-long-range doublon-holon correlations that signal Mott exciton condensation. The doublon-holon pairing exhibits correlations of $d$-wave-like symmetry, reminiscent of superconducting pairing in chemically doped Mott insulators. By constructing the phase diagram, using density matrix renormalization group, we reveal that the doublon-holon pairing state in the photodoped ladder emerges between the spin-singlet, charge-density-wave, and $\eta$-pairing phases. Our study suggests that the interplay of charge, spin, and $\eta$-spin degrees of freedom can give rise to exotic quantum many-body states in photodoped Mott insulators.

Photoinduced $\eta$-pairing correlation in the Hubbard ladder

We investigate the staggered correlation of the on-site pairs, the so-called $\eta$-pairing correlation, induced by pump electric fields in the Hubbard model on the ladder lattice. Employing the time-evolution method based on exact diagonalization, we compute the photoinduced $\eta$-pairing correlation with different strengths of the interchain hopping. When the pump field is polarized along the chain direction, the $\eta$-pairing correlation is noticeably induced in the weakly coupled double-chain region, where the pairing property is similar to the $\eta$ pairing in the single-chain Hubbard model. On the other hand, the pump field polarized along the rung direction prominently induces the $\eta$-pairing correlation in the strong interchain coupling regime, where the pair correlations developing across rungs strongly contribute to the $\eta$ pairing. Based on the local rung approximation, which is valid in the strong interchain coupling regime, we discuss the origin of the photoinduced pair.
