Fourier inequalities in variable Lebesgue spaces

We study the boundedness of the Fourier transform on variable Lebesgue spaces. We obtain necessary conditions and, independently, sufficient conditions on the exponents $p(\cdot)$ and $q(\cdot)$ under which the inequality $$\|\hat{f}\|_{q(\cdot)}\leq C\|f\|_{p(\cdot)}$$ holds for some constant $C>0$ and all $f\in L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$. As a byproduct, we improve some recent results of Saucedo and Tikhonov. Moreover, when $p(x)\to 1$ and $q(x)\to +\infty$ as $|x|\to +\infty$, we characterize the exponents for which the Fourier transform is bounded.

Frequently recurrent backward shifts

We study frequently recurrent unilateral and bilateral backward shift operators on Fr\'echet sequence spaces. We prove that if a backward shift admits a non-zero frequently recurrent vector, then it supports a dense set of such vectors, so that the operator is frequently recurrent. As a consequence, we provide two different characterizations for frequently recurrent backward shift operators and we show dense lineability of the set of the set of frequently recurrent vectors.

Frequently recurrence properties and block families

We prove that reiteratively hypercyclic operators have perfect spectrum. Consequently, it follows that there exist separable infinite dimensional Banach spaces that do not support any reiteratively hypercyclic operator. For this, we study $\mathcal F$-recurrence and almost $\mathcal {F}$-recurrence of operators for general families and in particular for a special class of families, called block families.

Disjoint hypercyclicity, Sidon sets and weakly mixing operators

We prove that a finite set of natural numbers $J$ satisfies that $J\cup\{0\}$ is not Sidon if and only if for any operator $T$, the disjoint hypercyclicity of $\{T^j:j\in J\}$ implies that $T$ is weakly mixing. As an application we show the existence of a non weakly mixing operator $T$ such that $T\oplus T^2\ldots \oplus T^n$ is hypercyclic for every $n$.

Multiple recurrence and hypercyclicity

We study multiply recurrent and hypercyclic operators as a special case of $\mathcal F$-hypercyclicity, where $\mathcal F$ is the family of subsets of the natural numbers containing arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. We prove several properties of hypercyclic multiply recurrent operators, we characterize those operators which are weakly mixing and multiply recurrent, and we show that there are operators that are multiply recurrent and hypercyclic but not weakly mixing.

Zero-one law of orbital limit points for weighted shifts

Chan and Seceleanu have shown that if a weighted shift operator on $\ell^p(\mathbb{Z})$, $1\leq p<\infty$, admits an orbit with a non-zero limit point then it is hypercyclic. We present a new proof of this result that allows to extend it to very general sequence spaces. In a similar vein we show that, in many sequence spaces, a weighted shift with a non-zero weakly sequentially recurrent vector has a dense set of such vectors; but an example on $c_0(\mathbb{Z})$ shows that such an operator is not necessarily hypercyclic. On the other hand, we obtain that weakly sequentially hypercyclic weighted shifts are hypercyclic. Chan and Seceleanu have moreover shown that if an adjoint multiplication operator on a Bergman space admits an orbit with a non-zero limit point then it is hypercyclic. We extend this result to very general spaces of analytic functions, including the Hardy spaces.

Arithmetic progressions and chaos in linear dynamics

We characterize chaotic linear operators on reflexive Banach spaces in terms of the existence of long arithmetic progressions in the sets of return times. To achieve this, we study $\mathcal F$-hypercyclicity for a family of subsets of the natural numbers associated with the existence of arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. We investigate their connection with different concepts in linear dynamics.

Hypercyclic bilinear operators on Banach spaces

We study the dynamics induced by an $m$-linear operator. We answer a question of B\`es and Conejero showing an example of an $m$-linear hypercyclic operator acting on a Banach space. Moreover we prove the existence of $m$-linear hypercyclic operators on arbitrary infinite dimensional separable Banach spaces. We also prove an existence result about symmetric bihypercyclic bilinear operators, answering a question by Grosse-Erdman and Kim.

Orbits of homogeneous polynomials on Banach spaces

We study the dynamics induced by homogeneous polynomials on Banach spaces. It is known that no homogeneous polynomial defined on a Banach space can have a dense orbit. We show, a simple and natural example of a homogeneous polynomial with an orbit that is at the same time $d$-dense (the orbit meets every ball of radius $d$), weakly dense and such that $\Gamma \cdot Orb_P(x)$ is dense for every $\Gamma\subset \mathbb C$ that is either unbounded or that has 0 as an accumulation point. Moreover we generalize the construction to arbitrary infinite dimensional separable Fr\'echet spaces. To prove this we study Julia sets of homogeneous polynomials on Banach spaces.

Hypercyclic homogeneous polynomials on $H(\mathbb C)$

It is known that homogeneous polynomials on Banach spaces cannot be hypercyclic, but there are examples of hypercyclic homogeneous polynomials on some non-normable Fr\'echet spaces. We show the existence of hypercyclic polynomials on $H(\mathbb C)$, by exhibiting a concrete polynomial which is also the first example of a frequently hypercyclic homogeneous polynomial on any $F$-space. We prove that the homogeneous polynomial on $ H(\mathbb C)$ defined as the product of a translation operator and the evaluation at 0 is mixing, frequently hypercyclic and chaotic. We prove, in contrast, that some natural related polynomials fail to be hypercyclic.
