Universal relations for two- and three-point functions of the CFT energy-momentum tensor and the Weyl anomaly

We establish universal relations, valid for a generic conformal field theory in even dimension $d\geqslant6$, between the coefficients $\mathcal{A}$, $\mathcal{B}$, $\mathcal{C}$ of the energy-momentum tensor three-point function and the coefficients of the quadratic and cubic terms in the Weyl tensor in the Weyl anomaly. Alternatively, we can replace the three-point function coefficients with the two-point function coefficient $C_T$ and the two energy flux parameters $t_2$ and $t_4$. Our derivation combines well-known holographic results for $C_T$ with more recent holographic results for $t_2$ and $t_4$, along with a newly obtained Chern--Gauss--Bonnet formula for compact Einstein manifolds. This theorem isolates the Weyl-squared and Weyl-cubed contributions in the relation between the Euler density and the $Q$-curvature, allowing us to identify the relevant quadratic and cubic terms unambiguously. We also provide two genuine CFT derivations for $C_T$ based on the renormalization-group running of the $TT$-correlator with respect to the arbitrary but necessary mass scale $\mu$. We revisit several examples to illustrate and validate the general result. These include free scalars, GJMS operators, and holographic duals of higher-derivative gravities.

Constructing Regular Lovelock Black Holes with degenerate vacuum and $\Lambda < 0$, using the gravitational tension. Shadow analysis

In \cite{Estrada:2024uuu}, a link between gravitational tension (GT) and energy density via the Kretschmann scalar (KS) was proposed to construct regular black holes (RBHs) in Pure Lovelock (PL) gravity. However, including a negative cosmological constant in PL gravity leads to a curvature singularity \cite{Cai:2006pq}. Here, we choose the coupling constants such that the Lovelock equations admit an $n$-fold degenerate AdS vacuum (LnFDGS), allowing us to construct an RBH with $\Lambda < 0$, where the energy density is analogous to the previously mentioned model. To achieve this, we propose alternative definitions for both the KS and GT. We find that, for mass parameter values greater than the extremal value $M_{\text{min}}$, our RBH solution becomes indistinguishable from the AdS vacuum black hole from inside the event horizon out to infinity. At small scales, quantum effects modify the geometry and thermodynamics, removing the singularity. Furthermore, due to the lack of analytical relationships between the event horizon, photon sphere, and shadow in LnFDGS, we propose a numerical method to represent these quantities.

On heat coefficients, multiplicative anomaly and 4D Casimir energy for GJMS operators

This note aims to verify a prediction on the total derivative term of the 4D trace anomaly, and the corresponding heat coefficient, for GJMS operators. It stems from the explicit computation of an {\it improved} Casimir (or vacuum) energy on the sphere that takes into account the multiplicative anomaly among the (shifted) Laplacian factors and connects, via the Cappelli-Coste relation, with both the type A central charge and the total derivative term of the 4D trace anomaly. The present heat coefficient computation is based on Juhl's explicit formula for GJMS operators, Gilkey's formula for the integrated heat coefficient of higher-order Laplacians, and the \textit{conformal principle} by Branson and {\O}rsted.

Pure Lovelock Gravity regular black holes

We present a new family of regular black holes (RBH) in Pure Lovelock gravity, where the energy density is determined by the gravitational vacuum tension, which varies for each value of $n$ in each Lovelock case. Speculatively, our model may capture quantum effects through gravitational tension. In this way, a hypothetical analogy is drawn between the pair production ratio in the Schwinger effect and our energy density. A notable feature of our model is that the regular solution closely resembles the vacuum solution before reaching the event horizon. For odd $n$, the transverse geometry is spherical, with phase transitions occurring during evaporation, and the final state of this process is a remnant. For even $n$, the transverse geometry is non trivial and corresponds to a hyperboloid. In the case of $d=2n+1$ with even $n$, we find an RBH without a dS core and no inner horizon (whose presence has been recently debated in the literature due to the question of whether its presence is unstable or not), and no phase transitions. For $d > 2n + 1$ with even $n$, the RBH possesses both an event horizon and a cosmological horizon, also with no inner horizon present. The existence of the cosmological horizon arises without the usual requirement of a positive cosmological constant. From both numerical and analytical analysis, we deduce that as the event horizon expands and the cosmological horizon contracts, thermodynamic equilibrium is achieved in a remnant when the two horizons coincide.

A new class of regular Black Holes in Einstein Gauss Bonnet gravity with localized sources of matter

We provide a new regular black hole solution (RBH) in Einstein Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity with localized sources of matter in the energy--momentum tensor. We determine the necessary constraints in order for the solution to be regular. Although we use a specific form for the energy density as a test of proof, these constraints could serve as a recipe for constructing several new RBH solutions in EGB gravity with localized sources. Due to that the usual first law of thermodynamics is not valid for RBH, so we rewrite the first law for EGB, which leads to correct values of entropy and volume. The size of the extremal black hole, whose temperature vanishes, becomes smaller for larger dimensions, whose radius could be of the order of the Planck units, thus the evaporation would stop once the horizon radius contracts up to a value close to the Planck length, which could be related with the apparition of quantum effects. Furthermore, the presence of matter fields in the energy--momentum tensor induces two phase transitions, where there are two regions of stability. This differs from the vacuum EGB solution, where the specific heat is always negative without phase transition as occurs in Schwarzschild black hole.

GJMS-like operators on symmetric 2-tensors and their gravitational duals

We study a family of higher-derivative conformal operators $P_{2k}^{(2)}$ acting on transverse-traceless symmetric 2-tensors on generic Einstein spaces. They are a natural generalization of the well-known construction for scalars. We first provide the alternative description in terms of a bulk Poincar\'e-Einstein metric by making use of the AdS/CFT dictionary and argue that their holographic dual generically consists of bulk massive gravitons. At one-loop quantum level, we put forward a holographic formula for the functional determinant of the higher-derivative conformal operators $P_{2k}^{(2)}$ in terms of the functional determinant for massive gravitons with standard and alternate boundary conditions. The analogous construction for vectors $P_{2k}^{(1)}$ is worked out as well and we also rewrite the holographic formula for unconstrained vector and traceless symmetric 2-tensor by decoupling the longitudinal part. Finally, we show that the holographic formula provides the necessary building blocks to address the massless and partially massless bulk gravitons. This is confirmed in four and six dimensions, verifying full agreement with results available in the literature.

An alternative study about the geometry and the first law of thermodynamics for AdS Lovelock gravity, using the definition of conserved charges

In this work it is introduced an extension of the study of the first law of thermodynamics of black holes based on the geometry of the extended phase space for AdS Lovelock gravities which includes changes of scales. As expected, the result obtained coincides with the previously known four dimensional case. For higher dimensions, the result is the arise of two new contributions to the first law of thermodynamics. The first term corresponds to corrections of the usual definition of thermodynamics volume at the horizon, due to the presence of the higher curvature terms. The second term arises in odd dimensions, comes from the asymptotic region, and corresponds to a scale transformation of the form $\propto \hat{\delta} \ln (l/\ell)$, with $l$ the AdS radius and $\ell$ a parameter. A particularly interesting case corresponds to the Chern Simons gravity where the change scale does not generate a contribution at the asymptotic region, likely due to the Chern Simons AdS local symmetry.

Thermodynamic extended phase space and $P-V$ criticality of black holes at Pure Lovelock gravity

In this work the \textit{chemistry} of asymptotically AdS black hole, charged and uncharged, solutions of Pure Lovelock gravity is discussed. For this the mass parameter of black holes is identified with the enthalpy of the system together with the promotion of the cosmological constant to a thermodynamics variable proportional to the \textit{pressure} of the system. The equations of state for both, charged and uncharged, are obtained. It is shown that the charged case behaves as a Van der Waals fluid. The existence of a first order phase transition between small stable/large stable black hole, which is a reminiscent of the liquid/gas transition, is found. The critical exponents of the thermal evolution, for different cases of interest, are similar to those of the Van der Waals fluid.

Regular black holes with $\Lambda>0$ and its evolution in Lovelock gravity

In this work it is shown that the thermodynamics of regular black holes with a cosmological horizon, which are solutions of Lovelock gravity, determines that they must evolve either into a state where the black hole and cosmological horizons have reached thermal equilibrium or into an extreme black hole geometry where the black hole and cosmological horizons have merged. This differs from the behavior of Schwarzschild de Sitter geometry which evolves into a de Sitter space, the ground state of the space of solutions. This occurs due to a phase transition of the heat capacity of the black hole horizon. To perform that analysis it is shown that at each horizon a local first law of thermodynamics can be obtained from the gravitational equations.

Higher spin fluctuations on spinless 4D BTZ black hole

We construct linearized solutions to Vasiliev's four-dimensional higher spin gravity on warped $AdS_3 \times_\xi S^1$ which is an $Sp(2)\times U(1)$ invariant non-rotating BTZ-like black hole with $\mathbb{R}^2\times T^2$ topology. The background can be obtained from $AdS_4$ by means of identifications along a Killing boost $K$ in the region where $\xi^2\equiv K^2\geqslant 0$, or, equivalently, by gluing together two Ba\~nados--Gomberoff--Martinez eternal black holes along their past and future space-like singularities (where $\xi$ vanishes) as to create a periodic (non-Killing) time. The fluctuations are constructed from gauge functions and initial data obtained by quantizing inverted harmonic oscillators providing an oscillator realization of $K$ and of a commuting Killing boost $\widetilde K$. The resulting solution space has two main branches in which $K$ star commutes and anti-commutes, respectively, to Vasiliev's twisted-central closed two-form $J$. Each branch decomposes further into two subsectors generated from ground states with zero momentum on $S^1$. We examine the subsector in which $K$ anti-commutes to $J$ and the ground state is $U(1)_K\times U(1)_{\widetilde K}$-invariant of which $U(1)_K$ is broken by momenta on $S^1$ and $U(1)_{\widetilde K}$ by quasi-normal modes. We show that a set of $U(1)_{\widetilde K}$-invariant modes (with $n$ units of $S^1$ momenta) are singularity-free as master fields living on a total bundle space, although the individual Fronsdal fields have membrane-like singularities at $\widetilde K^2=1$. We interpret our findings as an example where Vasiliev's theory completes singular classical Lorentzian geometries into smooth higher spin geometries.

Regular black holes and its thermodynamics in Lovelock gravity

In this work two new families of non-singular or regular black hole solutions are displayed. These black holes behave as de Sitter space near its center and have a well defined AdS asymptotic region for negative cosmological constant. These solutions are constructed on a general ground through the introduction of a finite density of mass/energy. This removes the usual singularity of a black hole and also introduces a new internal geometry. The thermodynamic properties of these solutions are discussed as well.

The entropy of Taub-Bolt-AdS from an improved action principle

In this article the study of four dimensional spaces with NUT charges and their ground states is continued. In particular, through the introduction of an improved action principle containing topological densities, it is shown that these spaces have simple and sound thermodynamic relations. As an example the entropy of Taub-Bolt-AdS solution is computed in terms of a Noether charge.

Black hole at Lovelock gravity with anisotropic fluid

In this work a new family of black hole solutions in Lovelock gravity is discussed. These solutions describe anisotropic fluids which extend to the spatial infinity. Though far from the horizon their geometries approach some previously known black holes solutions the location of the horizons differ. Furthemore, although the masses of these solutions match the masses of those previously known black holes, their temperatures and entropies differ.

Study of branes with variable tension

In this work we study a brane world model with variable tension which gives rise to four dimensional cosmologies. The brane worlds obtained correspond to E\"{o}tv\"{o}s branes whose (internal) geometry can be casted as either a four dimensional (A)dS$_{4}$ or a standard radiation period cosmology. The matter dominated period is discussed as well.

Magnetic Mass in 4D AdS Gravity

We provide a fully-covariant expression for the diffeomorphic charge in 4D anti-de Sitter gravity, when the Gauss-Bonnet and Pontryagin terms are added to the action. The couplings of these topological invariants are such that the Weyl tensor and its dual appear in the on-shell variation of the action, and such that the action is stationary for asymptotic (anti) self-dual solutions in the Weyl tensor. In analogy with Euclidean electromagnetism, whenever the self-duality condition is global, both the action and the total charge are identically vanishing. Therefore, for such configurations the magnetic mass equals the Ashtekhar-Magnon-Das definition.

AdS Chern-Simons Gravity induces Conformal Gravity

The leitmotif of this paper is the question of whether four- and higher even-dimensional Conformal Gravities do have a Chern-Simons pedigree. We show that Weyl gravity can be obtained as dimensional reduction of a five-dimensional Chern-Simons action for a suitable (gauged-fixed, tractor-like) five-dimensional AdS connection. The gauge-fixing and dimensional reduction program admits a readily generalization to higher dimensions for the case of certain conformal gravities obtained by contractions of the Weyl tensor.

de Sitter Entropy from a lower dimensional black hole

An alternative method to compute the entropy of de Sitter spacetime for dimensions higher than or equal to five is presented. It is shown that de Sitter entropy may be obtained from the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a lower-dimensional black hole. This result follows from the existence of a one-to-one correspondence between de Sitter and a spacetime containing a black hole localized on a p-brane. Under this correspondence and due to the holographic principle, the entropy of a five-dimensional de Sitter space may be obtained from that of a BTZ black hole localized on a 2-brane. For dimensions higher than five, de Sitter entropy is identified with the entropy of a Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole localized on a (d-3)-brane.

In this work it is studied a generalization of Randall Sundrum model. It is obtained new behaviors of {\it warp factor}, constraints in that the strong brane has tension of positive sign and, new relations between the coupling constants $\kappa_4$, $\kappa_5$ and between the Higgs and Planck masses.
