On matter and pressure distribution in nucleons

Matter and pressure distribution in hadrons are studied in a dual analytic model of generalized parton distributions with complex Regge trajectories. An original parametrization for pressure distribution in the nucleon is proposed ensuring its stability and compatible with the experimental data from the JLab accelerator.

Exclusive Diffractive Resonance Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at the LHC

A model for exclusive diffractive resonance production in proton-proton collisions at LHC energies is presented. This model is based on the convolution of the Donnachie-Landshoff parameterisation of Pomeron flux in the proton with the Pomeron cross section for resonance production. The hadronic cross section for f$_{0}$(980) and f$_{2}$(1270) production at midrapidity is given differentially in mass and transverse momentum of the resonance. The proton fractional longitudinal momentum loss is presented.

Collective Phenomena in $pp$ and $ep$ Scattering

Bjorken scaling violation in deep inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS) is related to the rise of hadronic cross sections by using the additive quark model. Of special interest is the connection between saturation in the low-$x$ behavior of the DIS structure functions (SF) and possible slow-down of the $pp$ cross section rise due to saturation effects. We also identify saturation effects in the DIS SF with phase transition that can be described by the Van der Waals equation of state.

Vector meson production in ultra-peripheral collisions at the LHC

By using a Regge-pole model for vector meson production (VMP), successfully describing the HERA data, we analyse the correlation between VMP cross sections in photon-induced reactions at HERA and those in ultra-peripheral collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Predictions for future experiments on production of $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ are presented.

Impact factors for Reggeon-gluon transition in N = 4 SYM with large number of colours

We calculate impact factors for Reggeon-gluon transition in supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with four supercharges at large number of colours Nc. In the next-to-leading order impact factors are not uniquely defined and must accord with BFKL kernels and energy scales. We obtain the impact factor corresponding to the kernel and the energy evolution parameter, which is invariant under Moebius transformation in momentum space, and show that it is also Moebius invariant up to terms taken into account in the BDS ansatz.

Critical properties of 2D Z(N) vector models for N>4

We investigate the critical properties of two-dimensional Z(N) vector models for N larger than 4. In particular, critical points of the two phase transitions are located and some critical indices are determined. We study also the behavior of the helicity modulus and the dependence of the critical points on N.

Critical properties of the 2D Z(5) vector model

The two-dimensional Z(5) vector model is investigated through the determination of critical points and one critical index. To this purpose a new cluster algorithm has been developed valid for 2D Z(N) models with odd values of N. Results are compared with analytical predictions.

Critical behaviour of the compact 3d U(1) gauge theory at finite temperature

Critical properties of the compact three-dimensional U(1) lattice gauge theory are explored at finite temperatures. The critical point of the deconfinement phase transition, critical indices and the string tension are studied numerically on lattices with temporal extension N_t = 8 and spatial extension ranging from L = 32 to L = 256. The critical indices, which govern the behaviour across the deconfinement phase transition, are generally expected to coincide with the critical indices of the two-dimensional XY model. It is found that the determination of the infinite volume critical point differs from the pseudo-critical coupling at L = 32, found earlier in the literature and implicitly assumed as the onset value of the deconfined phase. The critical index $\nu$ computed from the scaling of the pseudocritical couplings agrees well with the value $\nu$ = 1/2 of the XY model. The computation of the index $\eta$ brings to a value larger than expected. The possible reasons for such behaviour are discussed.

Numerical study of the phase transitions in the two-dimensional Z(5) vector model

We investigate the critical properties of the two-dimensional Z(5) vector model. For this purpose, we propose a new cluster algorithm, valid for Z(N) models with odd values of N. The two-dimensional Z(5) vector model is conjectured to exhibit two phase transitions with a massless intermediate phase. We locate the position of the critical points and study the critical behavior across both phase transitions in details. In particular, we determine various critical indices and compare the results with analytical predictions.

Critical behavior of the compact 3d U(1) gauge theory on isotropic lattices

We report on the computation of the critical point of the deconfinement phase transition, critical indices and the string tension in the compact three dimensional U(1) lattice gauge theory at finite temperatures. The critical indices govern the behavior across the deconfinement phase transition in the pure gauge U(1) model and are generally expected to coincide with the critical indices of the two-dimensional XY model. We studied numerically the U(1) model for N_t=8 on lattices with spatial extension ranging from L=32 to L=256. Our determination of the infinite volume critical point on the lattice with N_t=8 differs substantially from the pseudo-critical coupling at L=32, found earlier in the literature and implicitly assumed as the onset value of the deconfined phase. The critical index $\nu$ computed from the scaling of the pseudo-critical couplings with the extension of the spatial lattice agrees well with the XY value $\nu$=1/2. On the other hand, the index $\eta$ shows large deviation from the expected universal value. The possible reasons of such behavior are discussed in details.

Non-compact QED3 at finite temperature: the confinement-deconfinement transition

The confinement-deconfinement phase transition is explored by lattice numerical simulations in non-compact (2+1)-dimensional quantum electrodynamics with massive fermions at finite temperature. The existence of two phases, one with and the other without confinement of fractional charges, is related to the realization of the Z symmetry. The order parameter of this transition can be clearly identified. We show that it is possible to detect the critical temperature for a given value of the fermion mass, by exploiting suitable lattice operators as probes of the Z symmetry. Moreover, the large-distance behavior of the correlation of these operators permits to distinguish the phase with Coulomb-confinement from the Debye-screened phase. The resulting scenario is compatible with the existence of a Berezinsky-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. Some investigations are presented on the possible relation between chiral and deconfinement transitions and on the role of ``monopoles''.

Screening masses in the SU(3) pure gauge theory and universality

We determine from Polyakov loop correlators the screening masses in the deconfined phase of the (3+1)d SU(3) pure gauge theory at finite temperature near the transition, for two different channels of angular momentum and parity. Their ratio is compared with that of the massive excitations with the same quantum numbers in the 3d 3-state Potts model in the broken phase near the transition point at zero magnetic field. Moreover we study the inverse decay length of the correlation between the real parts and between the imaginary parts of the Polyakov loop and compare the results with expectations from perturbation theory and mean-field Polyakov loop models.

On the coordinate representation of NLO BFKL

The ``non-Abelian'' part of the quark contribution to the BFKL kernel in the next-to-leading order (NLO) is found in the coordinate representation by direct transfer of the contribution from the momentum representation where it was calculated before. The results obtained are used for the examination of conformal properties of the NLO BFKL kernel and of the relation between the BFKL and color dipole approaches.

The dipole form of the quark part of the BFKL kernel

The dipole form of the ``Abelian'' part of the massless quark contribution to the BFKL kernel is found in the coordinate representation by direct transfer from the momentum representation where the contribution was calculated before. It coincides with the corresponding part of the quark contribution to the dipole kernel calculated recently by Balitsky and is conformal invariant.

The spectrum of massive excitations of 3d 3-state Potts model and universality

We consider the mass spectrum of the 3$d$ 3-state Potts model in the broken phase (a) near the second order Ising critical point in the temperature - magnetic field plane and (b) near the weakly first order transition point at zero magnetic field. In the case (a), we compare the mass spectrum with the prediction from universality of mass ratios in the 3$d$ Ising class; in the case (b), we determine a mass ratio to be compared with the corresponding one in the spectrum of screening masses of the (3+1)$d$ SU(3) pure gauge theory at finite temperature in the deconfined phase near the transition. The agreement in the comparison in the case (a) would represent a non-trivial test of validity of the conjecture of spectrum universality. A positive answer to the comparison in the case (b) would suggest the possibility to extend this conjecture to weakly first order phase transitions.

QED_3 on a space-time lattice: a comparison between compact and noncompact formulation

Quantum electrodynamics in a (2+1)-dimensional space-time has been object of studies both as effective theory for the pseudogap phase of high-T_c superconductors and for the theoretical investigation of mechanisms of confinement in presence of matter fields. We discretize the theory using both compact and noncompact formulations, analyze the behavior of the chiral condensate and of the monopole density and compare them. Finally we draw some conclusions about the possible equivalence of the two lattice formulations.
